Chapter 29: Sukyandaru to seigi

(Scandals and Justice)

I groaned a bit as the sound of singing birds woke me up. I turned a bit and looked at my clock, blinking owlishly before the object came into complete focus. Then, my eyes widened and I jumped out of bed.

"Oh my Jesus fuck, it's 2 in the afternoon!" I cried, rushing around for clothes.

Takashi woke with a start and flew out of bed as well, looking at my clock. "Oh my god, you're right."

We both rushed around for clothes, settling on more comfortable and loose outfits. After all, our flight to LA was in two hours.

"I can't believe we slept in so late!" I cried, hurriedly brushing my hair. I put it in pigtail braids and began throwing all of my stuff into my three giant-ass suitcases.

"Yeah," he said. "I'm going to pack; I'll see you downstairs."

"Kaykay, love," I said, rushing to pack my new wardrobe.

As I bustled about my room, I heard some of the others rushing to pack as well; it seemed that Takashi and I weren't only ones who overslept.

Cecilia came in and looked at my suitcases and her ears drooped. "Arf . . . *whimper*"

"Aw, I'm sorry, baby girl," I said, pausing for a moment to kneel down and kiss her head. "I wish I could take you with me, but you wouldn't really be able to handle the flights, sweetie. Unless you were sedated, but I don't want to do that to you."

She whimpered some more and I hugged her. "I'll miss you so much, Cecilia . . . My bed feels empty without you or Takashi in it with me . . ."

"We could take her, you know."

I looked up to see mum standing in my doorway. I blinked in confusion. "But I thought you said she wouldn't be able to fly over?"

She shook her head. "At that time, that was true, because we already had enough baggage with us. This time, however, if you want to take her ba-"

"OH MY FUCKING GOD, PLEASE?! CAN SHE COME?!" I asked, getting all excited.

She smiled and nodded, and I squealed. "Ermahgerd, this is so AWESOME!"

After we all got packed (and after I'd gotten most of Cecilia's doggie stuff all put together) we piled into grammie's bus and went off to the airport. Some of us were still a bit frazzled from sleeping in late (*cough*Kyoya*cough*) but we got through the lines at the airport with no problems.

Jaycee was still so excited that she was coming with us. When we all sat on the plane, finally, she was nothing but a ball of energy at Mitsukuni's side.

The flight to LA was peaceful, and Takashi and I listened to music once more. When we landed, we had a couple of hours before our flight to Japan, so we went off to go find something to eat for lunch. We all decided to head to the Farm Stand, which served Mediterranean dishes. Once we were done eating, we headed back to the airport to get ready for our next flight.

This part of the journey was, yet again, the longest, but the most fun. I could hear Jaycee and Mitsukuni behind us talking and giggling as I sketched a random drawing.

Takashi moved a bit closer to me and looked down at what I had going so far. "What are you drawing now?"

I smiled up at him. "Oh, just a Halloween costume idea for school. I think it would be cool if the lot of us were to do fun costumes that day at club."

He raised a brow at me slightly. "Planning early?"

I laughed and gave him a grin. "Dear, I really get into Halloween. For me, it's possibly my most favorite holiday. I love the scaring, the candy, and most of all, the costumes~! It's so much fun to dress up and get to act like another creature or person."

"Mhm! You said it, Mommy!" said Jaycee, popping up behind me. She grinned evilly. "Remember when we made Matt Streeter wet himself last year~?"

I mirrored her grin and chuckled darkly. "Indeed~ . . . Whoever thought that my demon Lilith costume paired with your hellcat costume would make him ruin his religious drawers~ . . . . He was convinced for weeks that we were demon spawn!"

I laughed and then looked to see Takashi giving me this look like 'dear god what have I gotten myself into?'

I giggled and kissed his cheek. "Hey, we honestly didn't mean to scare him that badly. It just ended up that way, thanks to my makeup skills and my access to good costume designers. Along with Isolde and I being so good at making realistic costume wings."

He shook his head with a light sigh. "Don't scare anyone that badly this year . . . ."

I shook my head. "Of course not, mein liebe. Wouldn't dream of it."

Jaycee had settled in nicely at Ouran. She had decided to wear the dress, but she had . . . perfected it a little. Or should I say, had me perfect it.

I would still catch Mitsukuni staring at her legs during club, due to me having shortened the skirt by at least ten inches. It was a good thing that the customers didn't notice.

And in case you didn't already guess, Jaycee became a part of the club as well. Well . . . sort of, I should say. She mainly just hung around me most of the time, and she would sometimes hang around Mitsukuni to double the cute factor.

Today, however, we were all outside in one of the gardens, dressed in Heien Era clothing. Mine, Jaycee's, and Alaina's kimonos were absolutely stunning. Mine was varying tones of coral pink, Jaycee's had varying tones of green, and Alaina's had varying tones of blue. Alaina and I had styled our hair (me more than her), but Jaycee had just let her hair hang down straight, the only decoration being a soft green flower behind her right ear.

Alaina was in the center, playing a lovely melody on a koto. Jaycee and I were sitting near our boys, and I caught a glimpse of them trying to 'work together to eat soba'. The sight made me snort a laugh, and Jaycee and my boys followed my gaze, also laughing a little.

"They can be so silly at times," I said, looking back at my boys. I absentmindedly stroked Jaycee's head, as if she were a cat.

"You said it, Mommy," she said, sipping some of her tea.

The boys nodded, and then finished their tea off. I slipped Jaycee off my lap and smiled at them. "Would you like some more, my beloved princes? There is more tea to go around, after all," I said, my hand drifting over the teapot.

They nodded, and Jaycee finished her tea as well. "I want some too, Mommy!" she said, holding her cup up.

I chuckled and poked her nose. "Now now, dear, the princes first, and then you," I chided playfully. Besides, the flavor is more strong at the bottom, no?"

She nodded, then looked up at me with a well-executed face of apology. "Okay . . . Sorry, Mommy . . ."

"Oh, now, don't be upset," I said in a motherly tone, patting her cheek. "It's alright . . ."

She smiled up at me cutely and threw her arms around me in an exuberant hug. "Mommy!"

The boys all gushed over us with blushing faces of adoration, and we shared a discreet, devious smile.

My ladies were next, so Jaycee decided to go and play with Mitsukuni and help him rack up cuteness points with the ladies. When my five regulars came over, I'd gotten out my katana that Takashi had gifted me and had laid it across my lap, a fresh pot of tea steeping.

"Hello, my dears," I said with a smooth smile. "Come, join me beneath the peach tree . . ."

They smiled at me and sat, and I noticed something was different. "Sarako . . . you've cut your hair."

She flushed a bit and fingered some of her now shorter locks. "D-does it look okay . . . ?"

I chuckled and took the strand from her hand, bringing it to my lips. "It looks lovely, Sarako. It frames your beautiful face perfectly, and that is the honest to Goddess truth."

She turned beet red and practically swooned. However, I heard a bit of a commotion and stood up to almost have the Twins' ball hit me in the face. I pulled a matrix move and avoided being hit, but it then went through a window.

I followed the trail of where the ball came form, and saw Tamaki standing there with an 'oh shit' look on his face.

I raised a brow at him. "Tamaki-senpai . . . you are an idiot."

~le time skip~

We stood in the Newspaper Club's room, still in our cosplays. Alaina, Jaycee, and I shared a glance and sighed, shaking our heads at Tamaki's idiocy. Only he would find a way to kick a ball through a window and hit someone right on the head.

"We're, uh, terribly sorry about that," he apologized, bowing a bit to the Newspaper Club's president.

"Don't worry, it's fine," he said, waving his apology away as one of the other two members help a bag of ice on his head by a stick. Haruhi and Mitsukuni were cleaning up the broken glass, Takashi keeping an eye on them so they wouldn't cut themselves.

The twins were looking at a couple of copies of the newspaper, and I looked over Hikaru's shoulder to peek at it. Some of the headlines were absolutely ridiculous. I looked around the room and let out a short laugh.

So, that explains why they have so many extra copies, I thought to myself. All they can seem to be able to write about his pretentious swill.

"I didn't even know we had a newspaper club," said Haruhi, bringing me out of my thoughts.

"It's more of a gossip rag than a newspaper, really," said Hikaru.

"Yeah; they write about scandalous affairs, family struggles, and junk like that," added Kaoru.

I snorted. "Heh. Seems like it's more like some teen girl's trash magazine than a newspaper," i said.I looked at the three members. "No offense, you three, but y'all kinda suck at this newspaper business."

They all winced and then the president spoke. "I guess we have lost sight of the truth. We just wanted to try and make it less boring and draw in more readers," he confessed, leaning his elbows on his desk. "It's just now that we are realizing our error, now that the newspaper is at risk."

Tamaki gasped quietly, and the president went on. "We now realize what we should have been reporting to the students of Ouran," he said, rising from his chair. The three members bowed to us, and we gathered in front of the desk. "Help us, please. For the last paper of the semester, we'd like to do a closed, special edition talking about Ouran's Host Club members. I'm begging you, without your help, our club will close," concluded the desperate president.

I had to admit to feeling slightly bad for them, but something about this didn't seem to sit right with me. I shared a look with Jaycee and Alaina, and I could see my own doubt reflected on their faces.

Tamaki smiled. "Heh. You can count on us. On behalf of the Host Club, I- dsafjadfs!"

Tamaki was cut off as Kyoya pushed him aside with a smile. "We'll have to decline."

"But Kyoya, he got hurt because of me!" protested Tamaki. "What's the big deal!"

He went on as Kyoya politely told the newspaper club, "I'm sorry, but we have a policy preventing us from sharing any personal information with anyone aside from our guests. We'd be more than happy, tough, to pay any medical expenses related to your injury."

"I say you take it out of Tamaki-senpai's profits," I suggested. "His fault, so he should pay for it."

"Wonderful idea, Gwen," said Kyoya.

"And on the other hand," started Kaoru, "what makes you think we want to help you spread more rumors and gossip? We have a reputation to uphold, and you guys would just ruin it."

"Besides, you guys cause a lot of trouble for other people," added Hikaru. "And who'd want to get mixed up in that?"

Hmmm, seems me and the girls aren't alone in our assumption that something isn't right, I thought to myself.

"I understand," said the president, slumping down in his chair. "I guess you really can't erase the sins of the past, now can you? People won't even give you the opportunity to try and redeem yourself . . ."

He then went all dramatic about his head injury and the other two members fussed over him. I rolled my eyes and stood next to Takashi, muttering, "Damn punk's tryin' ta pull a fast one on us . . ."

"Mmm," said Takashi softly, nodding a little. His eyes were narrowed slightly at the president, as were Mitsukuni's.

"I guess all we can do at this point is disband with grace . . ."

"No, you don't have to!" said Tamaki. The Newspaper Club looked up at him with hope as he went on. "You can always make a fresh start. We'll help. We'll rally the Host Club and help re-establish the Newspaper Club together!"

"Well, count us out," said the Twins, Jaycee, Alaina, and I.

"Seriously, Tamaki-senpai, I get where you're coming from," I said as I went towards the door, "but you are too damn influenced by your emotions. They wouldn't need our help if they had been honest in their work in the first place; you reap what you sow, in my opinion."

I looked over my shoulder to see the newspaper club president look at me with both annoyance and slight arousal. Ugh . . . gross.

But the expression was gone in a heartbeat and the others joined us as we went towards the doors.

"We're leaving, too, Tamaki," said Kyoya. "We're having an evaluation meeting . . . mostly about you."

"Hold it," said Tamaki. His voice kinda scared me a bit; he almost sounded as fierce as I could at times, but much more understated.

We all stopped, not turning around to look at him as he went on. "How can you all be so heartless? These men are about to lose their club!" Then, his voice became tearful. "Can't you see their family's breaking up?"

The three members started sobbing and I rolled my eyes. pinching the bridge of my nose to stave off the migraine I knew was coming.

"As your president, I order you all to help these gentlemen out! and that is a direct order!" said Tamaki in an authoritative voice.

Jaycee and I twitched, then turned around slowly in unison. "Did you just 'order' us~?" we asked in deadly voices.

He flinched and paled at our expressions, and I narrowed my eyes. "Tamaki-senpai, the answer is NO. Nein. Nyet. Nu. Aon. Need I say it in any other languages?"

Tamaki gave me that dramatic sad face and then I just turned around and went out the door.

Once everyone (minus Tamaki) was done with the large changing room, Alaina, Jaycee, and I went in to get out of our kimonos and get out uniforms back on.

"Tamaki is such an idiot," I sighed. "I know that newspaper club is up to something. I can feel it in my bones."

The other two nodded in agreement. "I mean, really, even I'm not so stupid as to trust them," said Jaycee as she readjusted her bra. "Somethin' smells fishy."

Once we got our uniforms back on, we stepped out in time to hear Kyoya say, "There will be some conditions . . ."

Tamaki looked up at him with a joyful smile as he went on. "The outline for their article will be submitted by us, interviews are strictly prohibited, and it is VITAL that our clients identities be kept confidential."

Tamaki hopped up and down like an excited puppy and I gaped at Kyoya. "We're doing the thing?!"

He sighed. "Yes, we are. Is everyone in agreement with the terms?" he asked.

The twins, Mitsukuni, Takashi, and Haruhi all gave their affirmatives, and he then turned to Jaycee, Alaina, and I. "And you three?" he asked, a brow raised.

We all exchanged a glance, then Jaycee got this glint in her eyes that I knew far too well. I winked at her, then gave Kyoya a falsely sweet smile.

"Of course we do~," I said. "But . . . my little 'daughter' and I have a proposition to make to you, Senpai."

He looked between us, and then sighed. "Of course you do . . ."

With that, I grabbed one hand while Jaycee grabbed another and we dragged him to the side music room. We locked the door, then turned to face him.

"Was dragging me really necessary?" he asked, irritated.

"Senpai, those guys are up to no good," said Jaycee.

"And we both have that feeling. We know you and the others do as well. Aside from Haruhi and the Idiot, of course," I said. "They're far too oblivious."

"So, you girls picked up on it as well?" he asked, straightening his glasses.

We nodded in unison, then smiled deviously. "Which is why we have an idea . . ." said Jaycee.

"We need to be able to spy on them in a way that they won't suspect," I said. "Here's our idea . . ."

~ le time skip ~

The next day, the newspaper club met with us outside as we played 'Red Light, Green Light'. It was Tamaki's turn to call out, and I could see that the newspaper club members were pokerfacing at the scene before them.

I let out a short, quiet laugh. They won't know what's coming to them . . . Interesting what one can hear given the right circumstances . . .

I slinked up behind Tamaki and leaned in. "Boo."

He jumped three feet in the air before turning to face me as I smirked. "Gwen, don't DO that!"

I winked and stuck my tongue out at him. "Suck it up, Frenchie."

He then heard something the pres of the newspaper club said, and went over to him. I could hear him explaining the game to them, and going on about how 'playing commoner games was fun' yada yada.

He then went off and mentioned me, Jaycee, Alaina, and Haruhi, saying that we played these kinds of games all the time as kids and such. That being said, I wasn't surprised when the pres came over to us as Tamaki called the others over to decide a new game.

"So, Haruhi, Alaina, Jaycee . . . and Gwen," he said, giving me a barely concealed once-over, "you four wouldn't mind if I asked you some questions, do you?"

Me and the two more aware females exchanged a glance as Haruhi said it was okay. He then got closer to us with a notepad and pencil, the other two members taking pictures of us.

"So, why did you four join the Host Club?" he asked.

Jaycee plastered on a fake smile. "I joined because Mommy was in it, of course!" she said, clinging to me.

I smiled down at her, then gave him a fake grin. "And I joined because I thought the customers would like having a girl to talk to for once; aside from the fact that I really wanted to decorate the club room."

"I joined because Kyoya-senpai asked me to," said Alaina, her expression slightly bored. "He wanted some music to enlighten the room's atmosphere even more, and I took him up on his offer."

He wrote all of this down, then turned to Haruhi. "And you, Fujioka?"

"Honestly, I joined because I was forced to," she said bluntly. I mentally facepalmed at her honesty. Did she have NO SENSE of preservation?!

"You're an honor student on a scholarship, correct?" he asked her. He then looked at the three of us. "And you three are transfers from America, is that right?"

We three nodded as Haruhi answered for herself. "Uhm, yeah, I am."

"So, in other words, your membership in the Host Club is another way that the Suoh family likes to flaunt its power?" he asked her.

I twitched, then seemed to remember something. "Oh my, I completely forgot," I said innocently. "Kyoya said that interviews weren't allowed, right? Sorry, dear pres, but we'll have to cut this short. Come along, guys," I said, grabbing Haruhi and leading her to the other Host Club members. Alaina and Jaycee followed behind us.

Haruhi looked at me and started to ask a question, but then Tamaki took her from my grasp. "Alright, now it's time to play Kick the Can! And you're it, Kyoya!"

"If I must," drawled said boy.

"Starliiiiight KICK!" cried Tamaki, giving the can a powerful kick. My eyebrows rose, and then Mitsukuni had grabbed my hand and Jaycee's.

"Come on Jay-chan, Gwen-chan! Let's go hide!" he giggled.

Takashi followed behind us, and once we were out of the sight of the newspaper club, he took my free hand and I let Mitsukuni's go. I looked up at my man with a sly, slightly evil smile. "So, I'm guessing the lot of us are now going to proceed to scare the living shit out of that sorry excuse for a newspaper club~?"

His lips turned into a slight smirk and he nodded, making me giggle. "Hehehe! Yay!"

~ le time skip ~

We met everyone (minus Haruhi and Tamaki) in the newspaper club's room. I sat perched in the center of the desk, my katana on one side and Jaycee on the other. She held one of her throwing knives idly in her hand, twirling it absentmindedly. Mitsukuni watched her with a veiled look of wonder and desire. He leaned in to whisper something to her in Italian, and she fumbled with her knife, growing pink in the face.

"Hush, you," she said, grinning at him.

I chuckled, then heard the newspaper club coming closer. The guys all hid, leaving us three girls sitting upon the desk. A feral grin formed on my face in anticipation. Alaina also fidgeted at my side, pounding her fists together. They were wrapped in medical tape like how our Uncle Nate taught us.

"-I'm gonna expose Tamaki for the TWIT he is!" said the pres, slamming the double doors of the room open. He let out a startled gasp at the sight of us waiting there for him. "You three . . ."

"hmm, seems we were right, daughter dear," I said to Jaycee.

Jaycee's voice reverted to its 'grown up' tone. "What did you expect, Mommy?"

"Yeah, sis," added Alaina. "After all, did you even see their bloody gossip rag of a newspaper?"

The twins came out of the woodworking and stood on either side of our small group. "It was painfully obvious," said Hikaru, his narrowed eyes trained on the accused club. "The only ones who didn't notice were the Boss and Haruhi."

"They can both be pretty dense," added Kaoru, smirking just like his brother was. "Especially the Boss when it comes to anything pertaining to himself."

"We should warn you," I said in a deadly whisper, "if you go after Tamaki-senpai in any way . . . there will be consequences, my dears . . ."

Jaycee let out a dark chuckle. "Are you guys sure you're ready to have every single club member's family as your enemy? And keep in mind, boys . . . My family is Italian~ . . . Use your imagination and think of what we Italians are known for . . ."

They all flinched and the pres glared at the five of us. "I knew it! You guys are nothing but Tamaki's lackeys! He's holding his family's power over all of you!"

I raised a brow and Alaina scoffed. "What kind of weed are you smoking?" she asked.

"Yeah; because that's not true," said Mitsukuni, appearing behind them with Takashi. The pres and his two lackeys turned around in surprise. "We don't hang out with Tama-chan because of his parents. We love him. We all like being around him, and that's why we choose to be here."

Takashi let out a sound of agreement, and then Kyoya spoke up from his perch on one of the newspaper stacks. "He may be a hopeless idiot, but . . . even so," he said, smiling a bit and trailing off.

I smiled and was brought back to when I first started the club, remembering Tamaki's acceptance of my sexuality and my manners. I grinned as I recalled the first time the idiot tried to hug me and I grated at him . . . even though the hug was very sweet.

I mentally shook myself out of my reverie as the twins asked, "So, what will you do?"

"Please leave Tama-chan alone, okay?" said Mitsukuni, frowning slightly.

The pres grit his teeth. "I'll get you all," he seethed. "It's not just about him anymore. I'll write an article that will ruin ALL of you!"

I smirked, picking up the first aid kit Kyoya had brought over to them, as per my suggestion. "Go ahead, dummkopf."

Kyoya came over to me and took the kit from my hand, opening the secret compartment at the bottom. "Be our guest. But . . . what should we do about this little disc?" he asked, holding said object up. "You see, it's been here since yesterday . . . and it recorded everything." He looked over at Jaycee and I with a sly smile. "Simply a little idea suggested by our two resident incognito masterminds."

I flushed a bit and waved his complement away. "Now, Kyoya, you know I'm taken! Don't throw compliments around like that!" I said, chuckling.

Jaycee giggled. "Thank you, senpai!"

The newspaper club lackeys had grown as pale as ghosts. "President . . . let's just give up already," they pleaded.

The boy slumped to his knees on the floor, and i took the disc from Kyoya, walking towards them. "I'll say this in a way that you'll understand with little problem: you fuck with us, we'll bite back harder. From what I gather, the Ohtori Group and the Hitachiin family have enough money to remove your beloved daddy from his position at his publishing firm."

"But, we're not gonna be as crass as you guys, because we have far more class than that," I said, sniffing disdainfully. I looked down at the pres coldly. "What we strive for in our club . . . is fundamentally different from what you lot want."

The others nodded, and then made to leave. Jaycee, Alaina, and I strayed behind, and the club looked at us suspiciously.

"What do you three want . . . ?" asked the pres, eyeing us warily.

Alaina slammed her fist on the desk, making him jump. "We're here to add on to what was said," she informed him.

Jaycee spun her knife a little faster. "What we are about to tell you is only of our own convictions, and had nothing to do with the boys," she said, her voice firm.

I fiddled with my katana. "You write one gossip column or scandal story about ANY of them," I said, my voice deadly in it's quietness, "you will find yourselves in worse shape than what a simple buy out of your publishing companies would accomplish."

"Again, my family is Italian," said Jaycee. "I'm skilled in poisons . . . Gwen and Alaina have been trained to fight from kendo masters and their uncle."

"Who was a cage fighter in the famous Mixed Martial Arts arena, by the way," said Alaina.

"Add to that the fact that I can pick locks and disable alarm systems . . ." I said, trailing off. I gave them a chilling smile. "Well, I'm sure you get the picture. We wouldn't kill you, no, far from that . . . But you may awaken one morning to find yourselves sick with fevers, bruised and battered . . . . and in the cargo hold of a ship bound for Haiti."

"Do we make ourselves clear~?" we asked in unison, smiling brightly.

They whimpered, paler than freshly washed white sheets. "P-p-perfectly," said the pres.

We dropped our fake smiles and went back to our normal selves. "Alrighty, then!" said Jaycee, smiling cutely. She looked up at me and put away her knife. "Come on, we better catch up to the guys! They still had to find Haruhi and Tamaki-senpai!"

~ le time skip ~

We caught up to the boys and Haruhi when they were almost to the club room. Haruhi looked a little dazed, and I frowned.

"What's wrong, Haru?" I asked, linking arms with her.

"Gwen . . . did you know Tamaki-senpai's family owns the school?" she asked, her voice seeming a bit broken and robotic.

"Well, yeah, of course," I said. "Wait, yoou JUST found that out? . . . . Man, you're almost as bad as Frenchie."

She groaned and slumped against me as we walked, making it back to the club room. "Why didn't anyone tell me . . . ?"

"Uh, prolly cuz we figured you knew already," said Alaina.

"Yeah, I even knew that, silly," said Jaycee, skipping next to me. "I got to meet Tamaki-senpai's dad when I transferred; he's really funny!"

We were inside by now, and Haruhi slumped face-down onto one of the couches as we passed it, and I looked at her for a moment before bursting into quiet giggles. I sat at mine and Takashi's usual table, and he went to put the water on for our customary Earl Grey.

He sat beside me as he waited for the water to be done, and I leaned against him. "It's been a long day, mein liebe."

He chuckled and lightly kissed my temple. "I don't even want to know what you three said to them," he murmured.

I gave him a devious grin before it morphed into a smile. "Oh, nothing you need to worry about~! I think they might be scared of the three of us now, though," I added thoughtfully, putting a finger to my chin.

I heard him sigh as he shook his head. "You're far to dangerous for your own good . . ."

I looked up at him with mischevious eyes. "Mmm, yes, but you happen to like my danger sometimes, mein liebe~ . . ."

He flushed for a secondd, then looked down t me with darker eyes than usual. "Gwenivere . . ."

The teakettle began whistling, so I stood. "I'll get the water, darlin'~!"

I heard him sigh once more, then heard him mutter something along the lines of 'she's far too dangerous for MY own good'.

At that, I had to smile.
