JPOV
"Alright, alright show me again, show me again" Jon muttered, staggering to stand upright. "Fine you have to look this time I am definitely not doing it again" I pointed out as I got in position. "So crouch low, feet apart put your bum out and shake it" I said doing exactly what I was saying. "Then you shake, hands out in front of you by the way" I said pausing to burp.
"Hands out – what, why" Jon asked looking at me. "Helps you isolate your bum more and be stable while you dance" he looked at me strangely. "This better work Herondale" he crouched trying to crump – twerk as Isabelle would suggest. "How is this going to get me Seelie back" Jon asked looking at me. "You're going to dance at the party, where she will be at and she will get your attention, so maybe she may talk to you" I said feeling proud of myself.
"So we are only dealing with a possible maybe here … have you actually done this before" he asked sitting down and grabbing his phone and a bottle of Heineken off the table. "Isabelle has from what I heard" I said sitting down too and turning my attention back to the television. "Right Isabelle" Jon muttered his eye brows going up sarcastically. "Yeah one of your many – girlfriends" I whispered thinking back to their attempted relationship.
Which has left Jon and Alec enemy's. "What did you say" he asked looking up. "Nothing, nothing at all" I said shaking my head and hands. "Don't overstay your welcome and she wasn't my girlfriend" he muffled taking a drink. "If that's what you want to call what you had" I joked throwing a cushion at him, Jon rolled his eyes easily dodging the cushion.
"Damn" he muttered a moment later, "I am done hey, she is wearing my patience thin" he muttered angrily typing on his phone. "Whoa slow down, what did she say now" I slurred avoiding to look at my own phone knowing everyone will be looking for me.
"We shouldn't be discussing this on the phone. If you want to be with me you should prove it, she wants to see me in person" he mimicked a girly voice.
"Fair enough that's why you're going to dance at the part—" I mumbled earning a glare from him.
"You haven't exactly told me what you did wrong" I mentioned too. "Well," Jon said, "you haven't told me why you are here" he retorted back looking at me. "Isn't it obvious I came for my son and I found you" I rolled my eyes. "Mmhm" Jon hummed, "You could just come back another day," he said sarcastically.
"Got a plane to catch in the next 24 hours" I mumbled checking my watch, the numbers threw me off slightly but I knew my plane ride was still a while away. "Do you know when they will be back for real, Clary hasn't replied to mymessages" I told him, looking up the stairs.
"Have you considered that she doesn't want to see you" he said looking up a wicked grin plastered on his face. I gave him a stoned look like I could care less I just needed to see her and him their faces. "Soon man stop being a Grinch" Jon prattled on. "It's not like I am not a great entertainer" Jon kept talking… then he paused. "I am sure Clary is done having you around anyways" he said looking up at me.
"What's that supposed to mean," I asked seeing the turn in his tone. "Yeah, what I said is what it means" Jon mumbled then typed for a bit before looking up at me again. "Is she seeing someone" I slurred feeling confused.
"I never said such a thing Herondale" Jon replied calmly. "It's just –" Jon took a deep breath "I don't know Herondale every time you leave here there's always tears and a grumpy Clary … actually mostly a grumpy Clary" he muttered.
I make her cry I thought but why. "That doesn't make sense, how do I make her cry," I said.
"You don't make sense" Jon snickered. "You walk around, both of you walk around acting like nobody notices that your both troubled by each other," he said. "Especially since your last little stint … did you really think I wouldn't find out" he frowned?
"That's none of your business" I sat up on this new information, "You don't know about my troubles, you don't know what I sacrifice for – myse" I say trying to control my voice. "Don't tell me what sacrifices you have made" Jon scorned looking straight at me. Silence. "See nothing" Jon said settling back into his chair.
"You always have nothing to defend yourself when it comes to sacrifices or doing good for others" he continued. "what you need to realise is …" he took a deep breath again looking around. "What involves Clary and you is my business" he said calmly.
"I am sure you have everything, money, cars, girls yet you can't seem to leave my sister alone, she's moving on and I suggest you do the same" he said standing up. "I have failed to protect her a lot of times and show her enough how much she means to me … but I sure as hell will not let her down this time around".
"What makes you think this time around will be the same" I mumbled looking up at him. He gave a short laugh. "Look at you desperate, always confused and not sure what you want. That already shows me that you have a weakness" he took a drink quickly.
"So if you think this was some bonding time between us your wrong; here is some brotherly advice" he said slowly. "You're a waste of time and space in her life" he prattled on struggling to walk. "Your too comfortable Herondale and she doesn't have time for a boy who is too comfortable; you have wasted her time from the very first time she met you" Jon prattled on as he looked for something.
Jon turned off the television and headed towards the door. "Now you have officially overstayed your welcome, turn the lights off as you leave" he said. Moments later I heard the start of a car and he was gone.
I sat pondering how it had ended up where it was now. How had I just been schooled by Jonathan of all people who had no moral sense or knew of others feelings. How of all people had I wasted her time, she said she wanted to play games but so did I it was the only way to be with her.
….
2hrs before
Jonathan had scolded me from the moment I opened the door, a drink in his hand.
"Such poor timing you have deciding to descend upon thy" Jon muttered blocking the doorway. "Are you going to let me in?" I asked my head lifting to see if she was inside and just hiding.
Jon had looked behind and smiled wickedly, "Oh did you think I was hiding her she's not home, now leave you have overstayed your welcome," he said about to shut the door in my face.
My foot being quick, jammed into the door. "I think I will wait actually" I said confidently. "You're not welcome" Jon insinuated each word slowly. "Well I am going to wait" I said pushing the door to open further. I could sense Clary had not been home for a few hours, beer and pizza cartons lay strewn on the floor. On the television a basketball match was on she would never have allowed that to happen.
The presence of the television had become a mere distraction for Malachi nothing else I had noted.
"Ooh damn don't let him take the shot" I mumbled when I had settled in, but he took the shot and missed "What" I muttered looking at my side at Jonathan who suddenly took an interest in me since I arrived.
"You watch basketball" he asked looking up at me. "Occasionally when I have time" I said looking at the screen. "Ooh, that's gotta hurt" I muttered when one of the players got a painful blow on one of their knees. "Inviting you inside the house didn't mean I needed a third commentator" Jon glanced in my direction again rolling his eyes.
"You didn't exactly invite me –" I began to say when he looked sternly at me.
The first half of the basketball game ended when Jon finally stood up. He disappeared for a while and I was sure he was planning on killing me. When I was about to get up and leave after a while of contemplating he came back with an unexpected offer. "Drink" he offered, handing me a beer. I looked at him then the bottle. "I am not going to poison you buffoon" Jonathan muttered sounding irritated.
And that's how we had chilled out.
….
Next day
I heard voices trailing about. Definitely, a male and … Clary no … another girl that's when my eyes opened. Hoping my ears had been deceiving me that it wasn't another girl, and Clary might finally be home.
"You're still here" Jon's voice boomed when he saw me get off the couch, my hands in my hair. My eyes rammed around the room until they focused on the standing figure behind the kitchen counters and a girl propped on top of the bench facing him, who was definitely not Clary. "I can say the same for you" I winced walking to the fridge. "Is your sister home?apologize" I asked looking around.
"I thought you left" Jon retorted rolling his eyes. I eyed him, he was wearing a very tight and small pink morning gown over his body. "If she was here you and I both won't be here" Jon laughed. Jon rolled his head to the side and returned his attention to the girl who had her hands on the small morning gown over his body.
"I'll catch you later" I heard her whisper before pecking him on the lips. Once she had left and closed the door. I finally looked up. "Who's that?" I questioned drinking more water. "Camille" he muttered taking a drink.
"Right" I murmured. "What, you have opinions now" Jon asked placing his dishes in the sink. "You have the nerve to school me about my relationships yet look at you, you can't apologise to a girl who is waiting there for you and wants you for god reasons" I muttered.
"Haven't you realised Herondale, we are exactly the same you and I. Damaged goods, we go hurting everyone we love. Don't act like you're the best of us here now" he pointed his finger between the two of us, with a glass in his hand. "Stk" I murmured looking out the small window in the kitchen.
"Did Clary even come home, is she even here?" I asked looking back at him, I felt hemmed I hadn't drunk like this in a very long time since Clary actually.
"Nah" Jon muttered walking away. "Has she actually been home lately" I yelled standing up and only received another "Nah and you better be gone when I come back downstairs" he yelled. I rolled my head and tried her mobile as I left the house but there was no dial tone, just straight to message.
"Hey it's Clary leave a message, shh Malachi, yea leave a message" she yelled on the phone. I smiled a little knowing how long that would have taken for to make.
The manor was empty as usual when I got home, I had sent my assistant to retrieve the things from my other place the night Clary and I broke off what we had. I know Will wasn't happy to see me back. The exact words he had called me when he saw me back "An Intrusive bastard".
Glad they went home, I quickly washed and grabbed myself some real food and finally checking the 20 messages and none were from Clary. Then a non-caller ID appeared
"Clary" I asked answering my phone on the first ring.
Then I heard the girl's voice catching. "Hey Harriet" I murmured lamely. Considering how long she worked for me I could still mentally hear her thoughts about me. "Has Miss Fairchild come in or called the office? " I asked instead. "Um, Clary" she said. I realised I had used her maiden name.
"No Sir, but you have plenty of other appointments scheduled today and you're not here yet" she firmly said. "how important" I asked lifting my eyebrows. "No, just the general … yes, Sir all important including your flight tonight" she reminded me raising her voice. "I know to cancel the appointments and if Miss Fairchil—Clarissa calls make sure to contact me"
"And your family lunch today … Sir um someone wants—" she tries to say.
"Where are you" I heard Wills muffled nice man office voice on the other end. "Family lunch have you forgotten, hopefully, that's not part of your cancelled plans Jonathan, you know Imogen has something important to tell us" he muttered irritated. Right, that's where they were all at Imogen's ranch another family meeting I supposed. "I will be there" I said hanging up.
Ignoring my plans for the day I reached the Lightwoods house and felt enlightened to see their cars in the driveway. Maryse opened the door giving me a tight hug, then Max was yelling for me to come see his new game collection and Robert was nowhere to be found.
"I wouldn't go in there" Max had yelled when he saw me try getting into Alec's room. "Magnus is visiting" was all he said walked away.
I had thought it was kind for me to say hie to my best friend before I interrogated the living lights out of his sister. Then softly I knocked on Isabelle's door I could hear some light music behind. "Jace" she smiled opening the door. "I thought you were here" I said as she let me in. "How are we" I asked her.
"Good and you" she mumbled moving around. "Where are you off too" I asked realising she was packing. "New York City baby, town square" she beamed her lashes. "Simon" I guessed. "No – remember fashion awards I am presenting and you said you would be there" she looked at me cynically.
"Of course, ofcourse I will bethere" I said waving the subject. "Have you seen Clary lately?" I asked her. "Yeah we played tennis like the other day and she actually beat the shit out of me youknow" she said pausing. "Nice" I muttered. "Have you seen her since or talked to her since?your" I asked. "No" she mumbled.
"Did she seem happy when you saw her?" I asked again. "Clary's always happy but –" she hesitated. "What, what is it … is she seeing someone" I asked quickly. "Really Jace" Isabelle scolded. "I don't know girls talk to each other about these things right and I would like to know the kind of guys around my son" I said acting unbothered.
"Really, I am sure she would like to know the girls around you with her son" she narrowed hey eyes. "Yes … wait did she say that" I exasperated rolling my eyes.
"There's a reason it's called girl talk and no" she rolled her eyes back. "Besides you're desperate to know about her wellbeing and who she is dating go to her house" she said. "Jonathan is there" I said that as a matter of fact. "Ew" she retorted. "Is either of you ever going to tell me what went down between you two" she looked at me.
"What makes you think anything went down" she asked. "Well when I mentioned your name he said the same thing Ew, in a sort of politer way than you" I smiled as I saw a cushion come in my direction.
"Shut up and get out" she yelled. "I am serious Izzy" I said standing in her doorway with her pushing me out. "Wait, wait Izzy" I yelled as she banged the door in my face. I resigned by going and joining Max in the living room.
"You see how I feel" he muttered, I smiled rubbing his hair.
The upstairs door opened up again a while later and Isabelle emerged changed from drags to I don't know what you would call it "sparkling" that's the word Magnus would have used. I was getting used to him now. "Mum" she yelled, "Let's go" she continued yelling. Maryse appeared looking very tired.
"I'll drive her" I said quickly grabbing her bags. "No" she yelled. "Good idea Jace" Maryse muttered going to give Isabelle a hug. "You'll do great" she told her daughter. I took her bags and lead her to the car. Her face very grumpy. "Why Jace, what do you want" she asked while we drove away. "To know where Clary is" I looked sides ways at her. "I was telling you the truth I haven't seen her in weeks and she left abruptly when I last saw her" she admitted.
"And if you ask me she didn't seem happy not really, Clary doesn't beat me in tennis that's taboo, but I find she is always like that when your involved very aggressive" she went on. "Very aggressive … well did she say anything then – about me" I asked her. "More like she didn't want to say or talk about any Herondale's" she said living the car.
I rushed out after her. "What does that mean was she angry or seemed angry" I asked grabbing her hand. "first of all let go of my hand people are going to think we are dating" Isabelle said snatching her hand back. "Secondly, I think she is done and if she isn't in Idris right now I will finally give her an applause. Thirdly, what even is your agenda your looking for her. What for Jace" she asked.
I stood stunned, recoiling from Izzy Why was everyone assuming I was ruining her life.
"See there's your problem your too weak and vulnerable to admit how you feel I can see it, stop wasting her time and mine" Izzy snapped ignoring me as she turned to the flashing camera a man taking pictures of her. I wasn't sure to grab her or what but I felt like a brick wall and someone pissed off had punched a whole within my walls. Checking my clock, I realised I was late "Damn" I muttered rushing to the driver's seat.
…
"Finally decided to show your presence" Imogen muttered as I entered her dining hall. Will pulled the chair next to him. "Really" he muttered under his breath. Tessa smiled across the table trying to feed her own toddler. "Can someone tell me what is wrong with this picture" Imogen murmured sarcastically. Will was about to speak when Tessa eyed him and he remained quiet.
"My other grandchild ismissing" she said looking to the side and taking a sip of her wine. "Could someone enlighten me why?" she asked calmly. "Perhaps you Jonathan" "Where is Clarissa with my grandson". "She is not well" I replied getting myself a plate. "That is absurd" Imogen acted shocked placing her hand on top of her heart.
"That does not stop Malachi from joining his family" she mumbled shaking her head. Well you are excused from this table until she joins us" Imogen said. "What I just got here" I scowled, placing some meat on my plate. "You will not join this family until all members are present" she said. "Grandma" Will murmured. "Clary really is sick she is getting treatment out of town" he quickly added, looking at Tessa and I.
"Just spoke with her" Tessa joined in. "Why doesn't he seem to know that" she said pointing her knife at me. "You know Jace is always being silly" he smiled playing coy. "I do I just didn't think it was relevant to mention" I quickly added. "Where is she getting treatment then" Imogen narrowed her eyes at me. "Some saint's hospital" I waved my hand.
"She could have used one of our doctors, who helped Tessa" she muttered. "Well not everyone can afford our doctors" I rolled my eyes. "That's ridiculous she's family" Imogen hoaxed. "Is she" I turned my head to face her. "You have never treated her like she was".
"With your history and females, I had to be sceptical," he said calmly. "I am done" I stood up throwing a napkin on my food. "Sit down Jonathan" Imogen muttered as I was about to turn away. "I have news I would like to share with you all – so sit" she sternly said.
I sighed heavily as I returned to my seat. "Well" I asked. "Eat first" she pointed to the food. I looked across at Tessa and Will but they shook their heads agreeing. All you could hear was clanks of cutlery hitting the plates. "I have decided to get married again" Imogen said casually. I thought I hadn't heard her right when Will start coughing hysterically.
"Are you in trouble, to who, when why?" Will asked when he regained control of his fits. "Scarsbury, we are both the same age, have had mutual feelings for a while and we dated before your grandfather" she said. "Is he not married? And you dated before Opa" I asked. "Is he going to sign a pre-nup too?" Will asked a smile playing on his lips. He earned a very ugly look from Imogen and a slap from Tessa.
Imogen rolled her eyes. "It was tough when your grandfather left us, then my darling Stephen and Celine I could use some happiness in my life right now" she whispered so softly and so unlike her "And this Scarsbury will give it to you then" I asked cringing a bit thinking of nana with someone other than our grandfather. "He brings joy to my heart, something I wish for you Jonathan" she said giving me a hard look. "How is this about me now" I asked lifting my eyebrows.
"It's always about you dear" she smiled going back to eat. "So the next time we will be having this discussion he will join us and I expect all family members to be there" she narrowed her wiry eyes at me. "I would like him to meet, my grandchildren and their children so he knows what he is getting himself into" she finished.
When she finally dismissed us like school kids. I smiled standing outside and as the small showers hit my face. "Jace" Tessa called following me, it felt like years I hadn't talked to her or seen her properly. Her face had become chubbier, infact she looked fuller and bigger, happier, and even glowing. "I wanted to check on you" she said rubbing her hand on my shoulder as she reached me.
"What" she said stepping back. "I don't know you look different that's all" I said not wanting to make her feel uncomfortable. "Okay anyways" she said looking around.
"Is Clary okay, she's not really at some Saint's hospital is she?" she asked softly. "I don't know" I said looking past her. "I don't know where she is or would have gone, I don't know how to find her, be with her, be what she needs" I finished surprised at how calm my voice was.
"Well what have you done now" Tessa asked a small smile on her face indicating I didn't have to say anything I didn't want too. "I have been me, just same old plain me" I told her looking up. "I don't think you're the same old you" she told me. "You're different now, a good different" she smiled. "What I think is It's time she knows the truth Jace, see the real you what you have been hiding in here" Tessa faced me now poking me in my chest where my heart was.
I thought back to when she had found out why I had come home to live with her and Will again, she had kept the secret from her husband, and sat with me for hours while I poured my heart out. "If not for the truth her heart will only grow to hate what is bad about you and distant itself from the real you if she doesn't know Jace" she said.
"I know". "Are you like everyone, do you think I have wasted her time, I am not worthy of her" I asked my voice soft. "Who said such a thing" she gasped. "Everyone – including your husband" I said looking back and spotting Will, who stood by the porch with their son. She looked back too, "Will has not said such a thing" she smiled at me. "I can read and feel his judgement" I laughed nervously.
"I think you two have been silly really" Tessa shrugged. "How you just said you were on my side" I said. "I am always Switzerland remember, I take no sides but do find the faults and rights in each side" she said.
"But yes you have been silly, you have been confused and quietly frankly that is what everyone means when they say you have wasted her time. Jonathan females are different from man they may show toughness and resistance but deep down she probably hurts" she said. "But she wanted games, not me" I prattled on. "but did she know you didn't, you let her have her way because you were afraid and that was the only way you could truly be with her" she finished.
"You were supposed to fight Jonathan from the moment your heart knew what it wanted, you were supposed to fight. Fight the odds, those against, the arguments you were supposed to fight but you didn't" she continued on. "She didn't insinuate anything or show emotion, she just wanted to be with me in some part that I wanted to be with her, how could I fight with that" I asked.
"But then you didn't try, infact things ended badly and what did you do, you started hanging with Emma, have play dates with your son and Emma" – I cut her off. "She's a family friend who you recommended" I said defensively. "Does Clary know that". Tessa asked quietly as Will was coming towards us now.
"Oh I get it; how could I have not known but surely she could not have thought I had affiliations with Emma" Tessa nodded her head. "What about Emma" Will asked.
"Do you think she's gone then, like not in the same vicinity" I asked ignoring him. "I could not be certain, but if what you say is true, she probably is done with you for sure, which makes your job much more difficult" she muttered her son coming into her hands.
"How so" I asked. "For a scheming type of person Jace your very slow with this sort of thing" she rolled her eyes. "Where would a girl go though, if not Idris this place is glorious magnify –" I stopped talking when she gave me the look. "Where would you go Tessa" I asked turning my attention back to her. "Home, where I grew up with familiar smells, sounds and people" she spoke as though she was lost, her and Will were giving each other those gooey couplie looks "Home is here though," I said feeling confused.
"Where she belongs de,ar" Tessa said turning back to me. "Oh right yes" I muttered.
"You're a genius Tessa" I said pulling her into me and letting her go quickly. "Do you think he understood" Will muttered behind. "No, I don't think you did either" Tessa laughed. "Please tell me his getting on a plane for our business meeting". "Um," Tessa hummed. "Damn Jace, get back here" he yelled and chased my car as I sped off. I smiled in my rear view mirror and opened my window. "Sorry," I yelled.

CPOV
"Baba …baba" Malachi yapped about running around in his rob that Tessa had given him on his birthday a while ago. MH was printed on the front with some family emblem something I was sure to remind me that he was, always and will be a Herondale. I lifted him up and gave him a sloppy kiss on the cheek.
He squealed in my hands squirming about. "mmh … mmh" he yelled dribbling. I let him down and looked at him internally. A little smirk was on his face. "Mama" I murmured, "m..a..ma" I said slowly. He looked at me "Dada" he said and ran off. I shook my head stubborn I thought.
The last few weeks had been the most wonderful weeks of my life I thought as I picked up my camera. I had finally used that trust fund from my father. Travelling and drawing I decided to do on my plan ride to New York. No one knew where I was or had bothered which was great.
Initially I was going to call Simon at the airport but I was drawn to do more than just rely on other people. I decided to do what I wanted.
It was a little difficult with a toddler who had so much more energy than I.
"Brrr ... rr" Malachi crooned forcing himself in my lap. His eyes looked between me and the camera. No I shook my head back and forth "No" I mouthed. But his fingers grabbed at the camera trying to go next. I tried to pull it further away and the more he fought with me. His little finger managed to jam to press next.
It landed on one of the very first photos that had been taken when I bought the camera. It was an image of Jace and I at our son's birthday party. I remembered the moment precisely Isabelle had been making a fuss that we needed a family photo together, but we both had not been keen. I knew she took one of us three but I had never seen the image in front of me now.
Jace was poised very awkwardly beside me his tall frame towering over me. The picture was obviously taken without us paying any attention and in that moment I looked happy. My eyes looked pure green and luminous under the bright sun of Idris and a smile stretched on my lips. But what caught me the most was the way Jace looked. He wasn't facing the camera but he looked, just looked at me like he was lost and confused.
I picked up my phone on instinct, but still examined the image. "Hello" I whispered. "This I did not expect, I thought my Facebook was lying to me that you're in New York" Damn I thought closing my eyes half way. I had replied a message hours before to Maia. "How long are you here for" Maia yelled.
"A few days" I lied. "Fray you should have told me we have to meet up come out tonight" she said ecstatically. I shook my head. "I have a toddler to look after remember" I said. "He can come along" she muttered. "No Maia, definitely not" my voice became alert. "There's Jordan he can babysit his good with children, babe tell her your good with children" she yelled, oh no I thought.
"No way" I said thinking how Jace would react to another man looking after his child while I partied. "My aunt is here she will babysit, please come out" she begged. "I don't get to see you often and now that you're not knocked up anymore". "Fine" I exasperated into the phone rolling my eyes knowing she will not get the hint.
It had taken me well under an hour to finally get up and get dressed. In my simple black ripped jeans and a white tight crop top with a leather jacket on top. I specifically put on something that should not bring any attention towards me.
"Fray" Maia yelled when she saw me, quickly she took Malachi into her hands but he was being a sook crying to come back to me. "Aww such a mommy's boy" she commented giving him back. "His grown so much" she smiled, "I can't help to notice … nah don't worry" she said laughing. "You have to say it now" I told her smiling. "He looks a lot like his father" she smiled, I rolled my eyes giving her a slap.
I had managed to put Malachi to sleep that's how we had managed to leave. He ended up staying with Maia's aunt after all. "You definitely are looking good" she smiled as we sat at a bar at a very fancy place. "I have definitely missed you Fray, maybe I should have moved with you to Idris seems to have done a whole lot of good for you".
I looked to the side trying to hide any emotion on my face. "Yeah" I said my tone not matching what I was saying. "And that handsome boy of yours" she commented. "We are not together or where ever" I said. "Ohh … that sucks" she said. I scrunched my face "Not really my focus is on son but how are you" I asked her. She really looked at me and I could see how tired she looked.
Maia took a long gulp of her drink before she looked back at me. "I want to break it off with Jordan" she said quickly. "I am not happy Clary, he is too good for me, I am finding myself more and more drawn to Bat again and things that is not Jordan and I" she said seeming ashamed. "The grizzly security guy" I asked grimacing. "Yes the grizzly security guy" she laughed "But hey his good at his Job and other things" she smiled.
I looked at her. "I know I am trying to love him but it's becoming exhausting" she said brushing her hair back. I touched her arm to comfort her. "Please tell me your love life is interesting". "My one and only true love is my son … so yes it is" I said patting my hands on my thighs. "Is that so" she laughed. "That is so" I smiled. She looked when a song came on "How about we go dancing and forget our problems" she shouted.
"Your problems" I retorted smiling at her.
That's how we had ended up at Pandemonium later at midnight. I clearly was taking away all the attention with my constant yawns. My hips swayed slowly to the beat but I wasn't engrossed I just wanted to be home in bed. Some grizzly guy came and grabbed my waist and pulled me tight against him. "No" I yelled. "Come on" he said.
"She said no" Maia came back dragging me to dance with her. We pushed our way into the centre. Each time I noticed we were inching closer to the sound desk, where I saw Bat behind the instruments. I looked at Maia as she freely danced and shook my head. "Fray" I heard a disoriented call of my name.
I turned around in the crowd to where I heard being called. I saw Simon bobbing his head trying to look for me. Damn I thought lowering myself. Beside him he held a girl's hand, her hair dark against her skin. When she turned to face him I crouched right down to the ground. I managed to find Maia's hand and drag her of the floor then made a run for it outside.
"What's wrong" she yelled. "Nothing, nothing at all" I said my voice wavering. "I need to go Malachi that's all… he will be waking up soon" I said and she willing obliged getting into a taxi with me. I turned my head around and I saw Simon's figure come outside, I lowered myself in the taxi until we started to move.

He stood behind me, so close that I could feel every plane and angle of him. His breathe ruffled the baby hairs near my ear. He seemed to be whispering something, but I couldn't catch it. I was all wrapped up in his presence, his smell and his warmth.
I missed him. I wanted him. I wished I could see him. I was sad. He hurt me. But I lov – . No. I was dreaming. I knew that. I needed to stop. That I knew.
I knew it was morning, the light was streaming in, the birds were chirping about and Malachi was dribbling on my face but opening my eyes meant the dream would end, meant I had to let go again. I scrunched my eyes to hold onto the blimps of my dream. When my phone went off.
I ignored it. Then it went off again. I pulled it away then a second later I answered. "Hello to you too" I muttered my voice sounding groggy. "Tell me you were not in Pandemonium last night, no that's wrong why are you answering on a New York mobile line in the first place" Simon yelled on the other side.
"Ugh, who is it" I sighed sleeply. "Simon, Clary" he kept going on. I lifted my head wondering where Malachi had gone too. Then I checked beside me, he was spread out like an octopus taking 2/3 of the bed for himself. I closed my eyes until I heard the yelling again.
"Hello" I muttered. There was a pause. "Clary did you even think –" I hanged up on Simon as he was about to yell again. It wasn't long when Malachi lifted his head and began dribbling on me, and banging everything he possibly could find. My eyes remained closed, I was not ready to face the world yet.
Then a knock eventually followed after Malachi's banging. I lifted my head, my hair tangling and sticking to my body. The person didn't get the message as they kept banging. I opened the door.
Simon stood behind the door, a frown on his face. "Who ever knew, I would need a tracking device on you" he said. I rolled my eyes moving from the door. "Well you found me" I said. "I have been worried sick, since last night" he went on. "Why didn't you tell me you were coming, you could be saving your money" he said moving around.
"Why are you here alone then" he asked, "New York hasn't been safe lately Clary like think of the possibilities" he said. "I know, I have been here a while". At that moment Malachi came into the hallway crawling. "Aww look at him" Simon squealed. "I feel like I have missed out on him growing, his only a year" I nodded smiling.
"Coffee and music" I said shaking my body as I headed into the kitchen. "Um yes, I have been worried sick all night wondering if that was you last night in pandemonium, so a coffe is needed" he said following with Malachi in his arms. I felt surprised he let him carry him at all. His face was stock still, analysing Simon from every angle. "It's uncle bubba" I muttered smiling. Malachi starred at me strangely.
"Uncle Simon" I whispered. "dada" Malachi crocked unsure. "Did he just call me dad" Simon asked smiling at that. "No Uncle – Si, bubba is calling everyone dada now" I looked up at him. "Aw shoot, that must not be fun" he laughed. "You don't say, we spend all the time in the world together and he decides to say dada first" I frowned. "Ye" Simon smiled shaking his head.
"Anyways coffee" I said and kept walking. "How are you affording this pad, it's nice" he asked looking around. I smiled looking up at him "That trust fund, that I never wanted to spend from a man I didn't know". "Oh" he murmured his attention focused on Malachi. "Ya".
I put the music on full blast and started dancing around. "Your very cheery Clarissa" Simon noted. "Am I never not" I smiled. "Not this morning on the phone" he smiled his attention going back to Malachi. A knock came through the door. Simon was now busy explaining some project that went wrong and how he was nervous to go with Isabelle to the awards, because then they were officially coming out as a couple.
"Are we expecting more guest" I looked at Simon. "Oh yes Isabelle I told her to come here" he said. "Righteo, I will definitely be getting a lecture from her" I said rolling my eyes. Sorry he mouthed "I will be back" I said Malachi looking up. "Mummy loves you" I said giving him a slobbery kiss on the cheek before I left.
"He will be safe, you are safe with me, we will defend the fort together" Simon said pulling him and hiding. I smiled at both. I danced away into the hall way, thinking why couldn't she just let herself in. I opened the door and froze. No one was there. I pepped in the hallway I shared with other apartments but no one.
I walked back into the apartment bluntly not noticing my surroundings. When a full blast knock got me in the head making me fall on my knees. My eyes dropped and I heard myself say "I didn't order any room services sir". I felt my body savagely dragged then a hand slammed around my mouth with a cloth.
And …. And finally, I lolled into my head … an unfamiliar smell here and there… black shiny hair …"Simon" I tried to call but I couldn't hear my own voice. My struggling became limp. "Simon help" I tried again. My head felt woozy and behind my eyelids only darkness … it was only darkness. Malach— I tried to think … and darkness.
