Chapter Twenty-Eight

June 19th, Year XXX9

Location: United States

Place: Pomona, Texas

Heero held Relena close as they slept on their bed when suddenly, the bedroom door burst open with a pair of excited scream. "Mom! Dad! Wake up!"

Trained and always ready for combat, Heero sat up awake with a slight frown on his face. He gave his daughters a stern look which didn't affect them at all. "Girls, its 3:58AM…"

Gwen smiled, "Two minutes before 4AM which your alarm will go off. What's the difference?"

"Your Father loves to be punctual, darlings, even his sleep is timed accordingly." Relena said, her eyes are still close but there is a smile on her face. "That's just how he is and always will be."

Heero leaned back against the headboard, he ran his fingers through Relena's blonde locks. "You sound a bit disappointed, dear."

Giggling, Relena opened her eyes to look up to him. "No. You're exactly the same man I fell in love, the man I married and the man who is the Father of my beautiful girls."

Rhea rolled her eyes. "Ok. Ok. Children in the vicinity. Gwen and I are ready to go! Come on! Before the highway gets too busy!"

"Dad, you told us that we're leaving by 5AM! Come on!" Gwen sat on the bed on her Father's side. "We will go wake up the boys, ok?"

"Go. We'll be right down." Relena sat up then, brushing her hair with her fingers before throwing the covers off of her. "Take your bags down stairs."

"Already did!" The girls replied as they ran out of the room toward the stairs. They went to the back door of the house which would take them to the back yard and the back door of the garage. Rhea unlocked the door and walked up the stairs. Gwen knocked on the first door and Owen opened the door with a yawn. Rhea peaked behind her sister with a smile. "Hey Owen, we're getting ready to go."

"Oh *yawn* ok, no problem." Owen rubbed his eyes. "We're already pack to go. We'll be down in a minute."

"Ok, cool!" Gwen smiled as she turned to Rhea, slightly motioned with her head at the door behind her sister. "Go knock on his door."

Rhea felt her hands clammed up a bit before turning around and knocked twice before the door opened, revealing a shirtless Donovan but pretty much awake. Her heart skipped a beat and clearly lost her voice. Realizing who's at the door, Donovan quickly found a shirt and put it on. "Sorry, I didn't know who it was."

Gwen chuckled and pulled her sister by the hand. "Dad said we will be heading out soon. Meet us in the kitchen in twenty minutes."

"Alright. We will see you there." Donovan smiled at the girls before looking over their heads to Owen. "Message from Hayden, check it before you head out."

"Cool!" Owen winked at the girls. "We will see you in twenty minutes, princesses!"

"Ok!" Gwen answered as she pulled Rhea away toward the stairs. Once they reached the first floor, she turned around and smiled at her twin. "IF you act like that. He WILL know that you like him."

Rhea let out a desperate whine, frowned and pouted. "Oh my God! I froze like an idiot! AUGH!"

Gwen couldn't laugh so she but her lower lip. She squeezed her twin's hand and led her out of the garage to the backyard toward the house. "You need to calm down."

"Easy said than done..." Rhea mumbled, sighing as she followed her sister inside the house. "What if he got a girlfriend back in London? Who is waiting for him to return? He is a soldier after all, I've watch enough movies. They always have a girl waiting for them."

"I would say that you watch too much movies..." Gwen smirked, though she also took her sister's fear into a consideration. "Maybe you should ask him. That way, you can decide what to do afterwards."

"I don't know. Wouldn't that be too forward of me? I am six years younger than him." Rhea whined again. "This whole thing is doomed!"

Gwen stopped at the middle of the kitchen, she turned around and pinched her sister's cheeks. "No! None of that! Don't give up. It's not in our vocabulary."

"On everything else that doesn't involve boys!" Rhea frowned, she stepped back which cause Gwen to let go. The younger twin sighed, "I need to slow down."

"Yes, you do and calm down." Gwen smiled, patting her sisters' head. "Take a deep breath. Let go and just be your brilliant self. If it's meant to be, it is meant to be but if not. Then, it's a lesson learned since I won't allow you to be depress."

Rhea smiled. "Allow me to cry a little."

"For a good five minutes. I refuse to allow you to cry a river." Gwen smirked, she took her twins hand once more before pulling her toward the living area. "At this Rodeo. Will they allow children to ride the horses?"

"They're rodeo horses. Those types try to throw off their riders, so I don't think so." Rhea replied. She sat down on the sofa and leaned back. "I can't wait for the rodeo parade. They're always nice to watch."

Gwen's eyes lit up. "Will there be games? I like those a lot!"

"Yeah, they also have a carnival with rides and stuff." Rhea got tuned with her sisters' excitement and matches her smile. "I can't wait to spend it with you and our parents."

Gwen allowed herself to daydream for a good minute before letting out a satisfying sigh. "Like a real family."

Just then, Heero appeared around the corner of the hall. He smiled at the sight of his daughters sitting close together. "Hey."

Gwen and Rhea looked up, matching his smile. "Hi, daddy."

"Mom's ready and will be down soon. Why don't you grab your stuff and head to the truck?" Heero said, he turned to the kitchen when the back door opened. "Secure the doors."

"Aye' sir!" The boys replied.

Gwen and Rhea grabbed their bag packs when the dogs came running around Heero toward them. The girls dropped their bags and giggled. "Hi girl!"

Heero leaned against the frame with his cross and a smile on his face. "I picked out the hotel we're staying in that allows dogs. I expect the both of you to care for them and allow them out whenever they needed to go. Alright?"

"Yes!" The girls answered with full of enthusiasm.

Relena came down the stairs. She wore a plan blue shirt under a jean jacket, gray jeans and white tennis shoes. Comfortable with her choice, she smiled at her family. "Ready to go?"

"Ready!" The girls cheered followed by excited barks from the two pups.

The long drive to Dallas was amusingly fun. Not only for Relena but for all of them. Somehow, Rhea found herself sitting between Donovan and Owen in the backseat of her Father's truck while Gwen sat in triumph at the front seat between their parents. They played cards which pretty much kept Rhea occupied since she found out that Owen enjoys looking over her cards. In the end, Relena won the game with Heero's help. The young ones complained but Heero only stated. "She's my wife and we're a team."

No one argued with that statement. They moved on with a guessing game, started with Heero which Rhea answered and so it was her turn. To her surprise, Donovan answered to her riddle and it went down from there for the next forty-five minutes. Ending with Gwen excitedly answered to her Mother's riddle and basically almost bounced on her seat when she saw the 'Welcome To Dallas' billboard.

"Oh! Oh! We're almost there!" Gwen pointed out, a smile beaming off her face. She turned to Heero. "Daddy, how long?"

"About another twenty minutes." Heero replied with a grin, he couldn't help it. He is sure that no matter how much time passes, he will always have that same smile whenever his girls calls him 'Daddy' and from the looks of it, neither would deny that they'll continued to call him that. "Remember, we're here tonight and tomorrow night. We leave early on Sunday to beat the city traffic."

"Daddy, can we go line-dancing tonight?" Rhea asked, excitement matches her sister. "I promised Gwen that I'll teach her."

"Oh! Can we? Can we? I watched it in YouTube last night. It looks fun!" Gwen said, she turned to her Mother, "What about it Mother?"

Relena was intrigue, she smiled at her daughter. "Sounds lovely, I never line-danced before."

"Us neither." Donovan put in, he turned to Rhea and flashes her one of his charming smile. "Mind if you teach us too Princess?"

Owen grinned beside her and winked. "Don't worry about me little Fairy, I'll charm my way around the dance floor. You can teach Don here how to dance."

Blushing, Rhea found her voice. "I-I don't mind."

Gwen and Relena both gave each other a knowing stare, they smiled while Heero rolled his eyes. His wife have explained to him about his baby girls fascination for his protégé a few days ago and he wasn't sure that he likes it but he made a promise to both Relena and Gwen that he wasn't going to be overly-protective and he should trust Rhea. Of course, Donovan, Heero had to admit – a good boy for his age. He sighed. "Let's check in first. Settled and go on about the fair. I want to watch the bull riders."

With that, they excitedly chatted about what to do once they arrived. The dogs in the flatbed of the truck watched and barked excitedly as they drove toward the city.

As promised, Gwen and Rhea have the room all to themselves with their little pups running excitedly around them. They managed to get a room between their parents and the boys. They're on the twelfth-floor of one of the most lovely hotels in the city which Relena had to somewhat glare at Heero but the man just shrugged his shoulders without a word before checking them in. The girls looked out the wall window of their room, below and only a block away, was the faire and it wasn't even open yet. Vendors and such are still doing their prep and they saw horses and bulls being guided toward the stadium.

"Oh so excited, you have to idea how thrilled I am…" Gwen said, she pulled Bluebell into a hug which gave the young pup the chance to adoringly lick her chin and earned her a kiss on the nose. "We're going to have so much fun. Here, with you and out parents. I can't contain myself!"

Rhea had to laugh at how happy her sister is reacting. "I'm glad that we get to spend it together. The four of us." She sighed as she look back outside the window. "I'm sure this will be our second family outing since London, which was only a few days ago."

"I know and many more to come." Gwen smiled that grin that is obviously Heero. Rhea matched it with her own and both girls went to a frenzy giggles with their dogs happily barked beside them.

Relena sat at the edge of the King size bed as she listened to Donovan and Owen's report to Heero. The three of them look serious but it was Donovan who spoke. "Their activities are random but they haven't left London and they're circling Sanq as we speak. Our spies are monitoring their coordinates and reporting them to Mr. Chang and Mr. PeaceCraft. Mr. Barton and Mr. Maxwell have joined Mr. Winner, they're on their way to the colonies with their families. A few of them have followed as well…" Donovan took a breath before continuing. "Lux and Hayden joined them while Greg and Jeri immediately traveled to Sanq. Mr. Barton and Mr. Maxwell confirmed that they'll be coming to join us once they settled in the colonies until further notice."

Heero leaned against the vanity, eyes on Relena and hers to his. "Alright, you two know your orders and keep your eyes open. I'll send word to Duo and Wufei, I take it from there. Make sure you're the girls don't get into trouble while we're out there and keep a piece with you in case of trouble. The law here is different than back home, so stay low as much as possible."

"Yes sir." The two teens replied before leaving the room. Closing the door behind them.

Relena gave Heero a few minutes to think. She knew the signs when he wants to be spoken to or when he needs a minute for himself. Looking outside the wall window, she smiled at the sight of the Ferris wheel. Five minutes pass. "I would love to ride the Ferris with you. It's been so long."

"We will." Heero replied, he joined her and sat next to her on the bed. "Just you and me. We can take turns with the girls afterwards, I doubt they'll allow four people on it. Unless it's one of those tea-cup shape ones that allows more than two."

"I believe it is one of those tea-cups ones. Look." Relena pointed out, she smiled. "We can all take it together."

"The first one will just you and me." Heero repeated. "Then one with the girls. I'm sure they'll understand that their parents needs some alone time together. They're old enough. Christ, one of them already develop a crush with a boy."

Relena had to laugh. "At least you know the boy and trained him yourself. I'm sure, Donovan will carefully chose his words if it comes down to let her off easily. He strikes me a very responsible young man."

"And he should be…" Heero murmured more to himself. "Or I'll skin him…"

"I doubt he is aware of our darling Princess's affection towards him." Relena chuckled. "I'm not about to interfere with her first puppy love. A girl needs to spread her wings and learn from her choices, she'll make the right ones if not with the help of our little Queen."

"Though I did notice how Gwen was eyeing Eugene the whole time they were in the backyard yesterday." Heero grunted a little, frowned at the memory. "Am I to expect that both my girls will be turning into young women soon? Can't a Father have his little girls be little for, I don't know…? Until they're thirty?"

Relena kissed his cheek. "Now, dear, don't be that way. They're testing the waters and it's the innocent stage of things. Don't think too much of it, just keep an eye out and alert like you always do."

For a good three minutes, Heero didn't say anything and just watched the clouds gently move, took shape and spread out again. "Thinking back, years ago. During the war. I never imagine how my life would be today if I've never met you that day on the beach. How I changed from being the Perfect Soldier to being a married man to the most beautiful woman in both Earth and Space and Fathered two perfect little girls. Faith have a cruel way of starting me off but I would never change it for I've gain my humanity the minute I laid my eyes on you…"

She would have wept at his confession but she knew exactly what he was saying and glad that he said them. Resting her head on his shoulder, he kissed the top of her head. Smiling, she closed her eyes. "Oh, Heero. Life will be much easier if we have no obstacle in our way…"

"Morge needs to be dealt with and they will. After that, we will talk about what to do next –…" Heero didn't get to finish when he saw the look on Relena's face. Her smile was bright, eyes sparkling and sure. So very sure. "Relena?"

"I've already decided, long ago. I want you to hear me out and keep an open mind before you start yelling at me…" Relena took both his hand into hers and kissed his knuckles. "Dear, I have a plan and I want you to consider it…"

Heero wasn't sure if he was going to like the look she was giving him but he was no fool to stop her from speaking, she was after all, the Earths Sphere vice Foreign Minister. He nodded his head once and Relena beamed him a smile, she opened her mouth to speak…

Two hours later, Gwen and Rhea each held on to their pups' leashes as they walked down the middle of the street vendors. Behind them Donovan and Owen followed, eyes peeled and made it look that they're also enjoying themselves which they actually are. Further back, Relena have dragged Heero to almost every vendor that took her fancy and that's almost every single one of them. The twins took note that their Father had a sour look when they meet up at the elevator just half an hour ago but their Mother seem to be in a jolly mood so they didn't think of it much but the frown was there and it didn't go unnoticed.

Gwen look behind her, pass the boys to her parents talking at the vendor with a very colorful and tasteful blown vase. "I wonder what made Father frown like that…"

"Maybe Mom said something he didn't like?" Rhea guessed, she also look back. The frown was gone, Heero seem more relax and so she smiled. "Let it go. It seem he calmed down now."

"I guess but it was kind of strange of how he looked very troubled." Gwen sighed as she turned her head and saw a vendor that sales colorful Texan western clothes. She excitedly pulled Rhea towards the large stall and examined all the pretty products from the outside. "How lovely…"

"Hello, little ladies! Can I interest you to some of our pretty western style? From shoes to tops and our western hats, we have it all! Just for you pretty twins, I'll give you both 30% discount at anything you buy!" The manager winked at the girls, round and plump with white bearded mustache to his tidy combed hair. "Would you like to try out some of our items?"

Very tempted, the girls look at each other with wide grins before looking to the side to find their parents walking towards them. Relena was first to standing behind her daughters and also got interested. She smiled, "Why don't you hand your Father the pups' leashes while the three of us shop? Go on."

No hesitation at all, the twins handed Heero the leashes before entering the shop with their Mother. Heero smiled at them and waited outside the shop with the boys. "They'll be awhile and there's no stopping the Dove once she starts, so keep a look out."

Neither boys answered, they followed directions silently but Donovan have reached out and took hold of Primrose's leash. "I'll take her sir, Owen and I will give them something to drink. Why don't you go join them inside?"

On cue, Owen took Bluebell's leash and Heero didn't even think twice but handed it to them before heading inside the shop. They watched as the family of four wonder about the store inside and neither boys could help but be happy for them to finally be together. Owen grinned at how the youngest twin would sneak glances at them, more pacifically at his partner. "The little Fairy got a crush on you, Don."

Donovan's didn't reply at first but he sighed. "I noticed her little glances at me and I have to admit that they're flattering…"

"But?" Owen smirked and turned his head at him.

"First of all, she's 10." Donovan pointed out. "She's a child and second, she's our boss's child. Do the math."

"One foot on the grave?" Owen snickered at his friend's discomfort.

"More like to my neck if I don't let her off easy." Donovan rolled his eyes but he took a peak at Rhea who is currently checking out shoes with her Mother. "Though I don't seem to have the urgency of confronting her with it…"

"Dude, despite her age which is only by six. She is pretty bright but shy and sweet." Owen had to whistle. "She'll be a pretty little thing once she grown, I can't imagine Mystic won't be either. They're identical after all."

"That may be but they're not completely. Rhea got a distinguish habit of that innocent smile first and it sparkle up her eyes which is contagious while Gwen got a very lady-like demeanor and her eye color would change shade for just an instant of that deep blue almost when she's happy. They may be identical but I can tell the difference between them by just looking into their eyes. When Rhea blushes, her shade lightens and when she was sad, the color would be darker blue. They both very intelligent but Rhea grew up more freely than Gwen and it shows how carefree she is. Their personality is also different from each other, Gwen's more royal while Rhea is of full of sunshine." Donovan realize at that moment that he was listing the things that he notices about the young Rhiannon and before he could stop himself, he wiped his free hand over his face. "Bloody hell…"

Owen couldn't help but feel sorry for him. "Bloody hell indeed. Careful not to trip of you'll fall head first into your grave."

"I keep forgetting that she's 10 years old. Half the time, I don't see that in her eyes or the way she talks." Donovan admit, he never really judge the person by their number but to their intelligence. "I admire her that is all."

"Sure, pal." Owen nodded his head as he rolled his eyes at his friend. "Just remember, she's 10 and that she's out boss's kid."

Donovan sighed as he look back to stare at Rhea for a just a minute. "Trust me, I don't want to hurt her nor do I want her to continue to have crushes on me which would lead her into expecting more. The only problem I have is, how?"

"Pretend you have a girlfriend waiting for you back home?" Owen offered, serious. "A lot of girls take that seriously and I'm sure that would put a stop to her admiration of you. Though if she cries, then…"

"I'm dead." Donovan sighed, defeated. "I'll be damn if I don't say anything and I'll be damn if I do."

"Tough for you, friend. Glad I'm not on your shoes right now." Owen pity him for a slight second before grinning. "Look at the brighter side of things, at least it wasn't Mr. Chang!"

That made Donovan smile but shook his head. "True, I have to admit I'm more afraid of our boss than Mr. Chang…"

"That's the spirit!" Owen smack Donovan's back. "Just let her off as easy as you can, ok, pal? She's only 10 after all. The beginning of adolescence."

Donovan didn't reply, to distract himself, he kneeled down to Primrose and took out a water bottle from his backpack with a tiny bowl he acquired back from the hotel. "Hey, girl, I'm sure am in trouble aren't I?" Primrose leap up, licked his face before busying herself with the water offered to her.

Thirty minutes later, Gwen and Rhea existed the shop with a brand new outfit. Identical from shoes to their hats. While Gwen have chosen a baby blue color with white. Rhea decided on black with white. Relena also have changed, she matches Heero so well that it made her brighten the whole fair. No one took notice of her, a few but they double guessed themselves and moved on.

The boys waited while the family enjoyed themselves riding the Ferris wheel. The girls didn't argue when Heero told them that he and Relena will ride alone. The open compartment lifted off, Rhea and Gwen squealed excitedly and they stopped almost at the top. Looking down, Rhea could significantly see Donovan and Owen with the dogs down below. "Hey Gwen…"

"Yeah?" Gwen was busy taking pictures when her sister spoke.

"I believe, I'm going to give up on the idea of me crushing on him." Rhea decided. Still continue to look down at the ground. "I've been thinking that it might be better for me because I don't want to trouble him and since I know he sees me like a kid sister, I rather not continue."

Gwen lowered her camera and stare at her sister. "You're alright with that?"

"Yes, I'm thinking logically." Rhea sighed as she moved away from railing and sat straight, tears in her eyes as she sniffled. "I believe is for the best…"

Slowly, Gwen moved closer to her sister and wrap an arm around her shoulder. "It's ok, I understand but don't you want to confirm it first? I think it would be better for you to confront him and get it out of the way. If you just start acting different, he will notice."

"I already feel rejected… His six years older and he doesn't see me anything but a kid sister, I can see it in his eyes." Tears were now flowing down her cheek. "My h-heart hurts…"

Gwen didn't speak, she held her close and allowed her to cry. When they got closer to the ground, they have another round before they could get out but it did stop which surprises both girls. Donovan was there, he didn't bother opening the door but jumped over it instead. He kneeled before Rhea, a hand on her shoulder and eyes leveled with hers. Gwen suddenly got up and got off the ride, she told the ride operator to continue which he oblige. Rhea was completely shock at Donovan sudden appearance and at her sisters actions but the teen before her didn't pay no mind to anything else. The ride began again, his voice full of concern. "What happened?"

Rhea found it hard to speak, she burst out into a silent sob.

End of Chapter Twenty-Six…
