Spider-Man and Silk In Threads of Destiny Season Two – Episode One Evils Dark As Night Part I

By

Above NYC mid-November, morning

"Think you can stop me? Bah, you two are nothing but pests!" The green armored cyborg called Vulture said. His integrated bird shaped helmet with ruby red eyes opened its mouth emitting a terrible sonic shriek.

Spider-Man and Silk withered on the rooftop in pain holding their heads. They were totally unprepared for this unexpected form of assault. Before they could recover Vulture peppered their location with exploding, feather-shaped mini bombs from his wings. When the dust thrown up by the explosion cleared, however, he beheld three spiders rather than two.

"I hope you kids are okay with a little help." Scarlet Spider in his gravelly voice.

"Are we ever," Spider-Man said.

"Thanks, Scarlet Spider." Silk brushing dust from her new short neck length hair. A week ago she ditched her mid-back length hairstyle for a much shorter and more functional style after the latter nearly got tangled around a building air conditioner unit.

"No problem," Scarlet Spider said. He pointed up at the Vulture. "What's the deal with angry bird man?"

"No idea, he just attacked us out of the blue," Spider-Man said.

"Yeah, it was weird." Silk said.

"I won't fail again." Vulture threatened.

Vulture swooped down low and made ready to use his sonic scream again when at close range of only a few feet above his targets. When, however, he opened his mouth again Scarlet Spider sprang into action. He shot a pellet from a wristwatch type device on his right arm down the Vulture's gullet.

"Something new I cooked up with all Kingpin's expropriated funds. I call it Impact Webbing." Scarlet Spider explained.

"What does it do?" Spider-Man asked curiously.

"Watch," Scarlet Spider said pointing at Vulture. The pellet exploded filling Vulture's mouth with a ball of rapidly expanding webbing.

"Sweet," Silk said.

"Let's take this turkey down," Spider-Man said. Silk and Scarlet Spider both looked at him. "Hey, it was the best I could do on such short notice. Hey, constantly creating new puns isn't easy ya know."

Scarlet Spider and Silk each snared a taloned foot of the Vulture with a web line. They then pulled hard bringing him down. Spider-Man then webbed up the formerly airborne villain who was stunned by the impact up securely in a tight cocoon. Spider-Man then used his SHIELD issued ID/communication card to contact Director Nick Fury on the Helicarrier. Vulture was soon taken into custody by a group of heavily armored SHIELD agents.

"So, where have you been the past few months?" Spider-Man asked Scarlet Spider.

"Working with a new partner. He's called Daredevil. Maybe you've heard of him?" Scarlet Spider said.

"Can't say we have." Silk said exchanging glances with Spider-Man who shook his head.

"He has a strong desire to take down the Rose along with Mr. Negative and Green Goblibn. A desire I share." Scarlet Spider said. "Either of you interested in joining our cause?"

"Nah, our plate is pretty full as is, What with being SHIELD field agents in training and all that comes with the positions." Spider-Man said. "But, maybe there is something you can do for us, if you are willing?"

"And what would that be?" Scarlet Spider asked.

"Norman Osborn has learned our civilian identities and is blackmailing us," Spider-Man said. "He somehow obtained a video of us unmasking after a mission."

"He wants us to work for him doing semi-legal to straight up criminal stuff or he'll make the video public." Silk said.

"We were on our way to confront him when that Thanksgiving reject attacked," Spider-Man said.

"Say no more kids, I'll take care of everything." Scarlet Spider said.

"Maybe we should tell Director Fury. Have him talk to Norman instead." Silk said unsure if the bombastic Scarlet Spider was right for the job.

"I think we should give Scarlet a try. He can be rather persuasive when need be." Spider-Man said thinking of how Scarlet Spider's rough and ready actions towards criminals down right frightened him at times.

"Okay," Silk said although she feared she would soon come to regret this.

"Don't sweat this. I'm on the case." Scarlet Spider assured. "Norman Osborn's threat is as good as neutralized."

Laboratory of Dr. Miles Warren in Oscorp Headquarters

"They defeated Vulture with relative ease," Morlun said grimly. He and Dr. Warren were watching a live video feed from a camera installed in Vulture's cybernetic body.

"Not to worry my friend." Dr. Miles Warren said. "Vulture was but a prototype. Adrian Toomes was an unfit host for bio-technological augmentation, due to his advanced age and unstable state of mind. But he was the best volunteer from the Oscorp employee pool we could procure on such short notice. My next creation will be far superior to Vulture. Let's see how about a cyborg based on a scorpion?" He mused.

Osborn Mansion, an hour later

Scarlet Spider crashed through the window of Norman Osborn's home office with great fanfare. If he was bothered by the unannounced arrival Norman gave no outward indication. Seated behind his large desk he took a sip of brandy then smiled at his odd guest.

"Why hello there," Norman Osborn said. "To what do I owe the pleasure of your company, Scarlet Spider is it?"

"Cut the crap, Osborn. You know exactly why I'm here." Scarlet Spider said.

"I do," Norman Osborn said feigning innocence.

"Leave Spider-Man and Silk alone or there will be trouble." Scarlet Spider threatened.

"From you I assume?" Norman Osborn said smiling.

"No shirt Sherlock." Scarlet Spider said. "I can get pretty cranky when I'm upset."

"Obviously," Norman Osborn said indicating the scattered fragments of wood and glass that littered his floor with his free hand.

"Destroy all copies of the video you have of Silk and Spider-Man unmasking, got that?" Scarlet Spider said his voice dangerously low.

"Or," Norman Osborn said still smiling.

"You won't like what happens, is all I'll say." Scarlet Spider said. He punched the top of Norman's desk breaking the it in half. "If those kids get outed I'll be back for you Osborn." Without another word, he swung away.

Norman Osborn scowled at the pile of wood that once was his desk. "No one threatens me and lives to brag." He said softly. "I'll come for you soon enough Scarlet Spider. But first the Parker boy and Moon girl will pay for defying me." He tossed aside his brandy sniffer which shattered upon impact. He removed one of his many smartphones from the breast pocket of his suit coat and dialed a well memorized number. "Menken send an edited version of the Spider-Man and Silk unmasking video that does not include their actual identity reveal to the Daily Bugle. Make sure the Bugle staff is made aware what they have is only a preview and that the full version shows the faces of the young vigilantes. Call me back when it is done." Norman ended his call. A smirk on his face. "The ball is once again in your court Cindy and Peter, or should I say Silk and Spider-Man."

Uptown later that day, night

An elderly minister fumbled with the keys to his parsonage when he felt a tap on his shoulder. He turned around. What he saw was a something straight out of a nightmare. A fanged figure covered in withering red and black tendrils.

"Golly good evening for a stroll reverend." Carnage said decapitating the man with his left arm that morphed into an axe shape. "Number seventeen," He laughed. "Maybe a rabbi next, or a nun, or a clown, or a construction worker, hell, maybe a crossing guard." He walked away into the gloom visions of continued mayhem dancing in his head.

Parker Residence in Queens, the wee hours

While Cindy and Peter had a well-deserved sleep they had no idea of the danger that lurked nearby. On the rooftop, next door crunched a large shadow darker than the rest. Venom observed his sworn enemies as he had the night before and the night before that. In fact he had stealthily followed the pair everywhere for over a week now. Carefully he learned their routine. When the time was right he would strike. But he would not slay either of them, at least not right away. No, that would be too easy. He would not grant them the release of death until they suffered mightily. They would pay dearly for every indignity they had inflicted upon both Eddie Brock the man and the his loyal Symbiote.

"Our plan is perfect." Venom said within his shared mind. "We will abduct one of them then force that one to kill the other by brainwashing he or she. It will only take a small portion of ourself placed within his or her brain to achieve total control. Once the deed is done and one of the spiders lay dead at the feet of the other we shall release that one from our control. Have he or she live with the guilt of their action forever, unless, of course, he or she decides to die as penance. Either way, we win. The only question, is who should we choose?" Venom considered who would be best while he sat there the rest of that night.

To Be Continued

Author's Note One -

I've decided to roll my sequel story "Tangled Web" into this story as the former is simply a straight continuation of the latter with only a short time interval between events. Besides I have too my separate stories already on this site lol.

Author's Note Two -

While this is a tad shorter than I would like, I felt it was important to update the story after such a long hiatus. Look for a longer second part of this episode soon.
