He was smiling, but that wasn't really all too special. Odds were most times Zoe looked into Wash's eyes they were sparkling with some sort of joy or amusement. It had been a quiet day, countless hours of Serenity just floating through the black. Autopilot because there was no destination, no planet within a ten hour radius. And the ship was calm. So duties were put on hold, responsibility thrown to the wind, and for the past five hours or so it had just been the two of them.
Zoe couldn't remember the last time it had felt so damn good to just be. Surely not since the war. Maybe not even before. Maybe she was living for the first time. Now there was a thought. Zoe closed her eyes, feeling herself sink into the bed as tired took over. As much as she didn't want to waste the day, a little cat nap wouldn't change a thing. She'd wake up to more Wash. Only Wash.
It was special. This moment. And Zoe's emotional inhibitions were feeling especially wobbly. The words formed of their own accord in her throat, almost like a yawn. "Wash," She didn't open her eyes, just curled in closer to him, the rising and falling of his chest lulling her further and further towards sleep. Boy, could she get used to always falling asleep like this, next to him. "Love you."
