A couple of days had passed since Regina's date with Robin and from the last time she had seen her mother. There had been no sign of her mother or her sister since then and Regina couldn't help but feel uneasy about that, although mainly because of her mother and not really her sister.
However she was tired of being cooped up in Mary-Margaret and David's apartment all day so she decided to go out for a walk and she found herself in the forest. It was a lovely day by all accounts. It was cloudy but it didn't look like it would rain and the sun was trying hard to fight its way through the clouds. It wasn't very cold and there was a slight breeze which was nice.
Regina wandered through the forest her mind buzzing with Robin, her mother and trying to figure what was going on in her life. It was then that she stopped for a moment as she saw her sister, Zelena, sat on a big long log staring out into the forest. Regina bit her lip for a moment trying to decided what to do. Her head was telling her to just turn around and walk away quickly bit quietly but her heart was telling her to go over to Zelena and try to talk to her, after all she did look quite upset.
So Regina sighed and decided to go with her heart and she made her way over to Zelena, a stick snapping underneath her heeled boot making Zelena jump and twist round. As soon as she saw Regina she rolled her eyes and turned back round. "Should you not be running away from me? Aren't you afraid I will call mother?" Zelena asked in a bored tone.
"I probably should be running away from you yes." Regina said as she got to the log and sat down beside Zelena with her hands in her coat pockets. "But for some reason and I don't know why but I don't think you will call on mother."
Zelena looked over at Regina with a raised eyebrow. "Well maybe you're a bit smarter than I thought little sis." Zelena sighed. "You're lucky I can't be bothered with a fight today."
"My lucky day." Regina retorted back making Zelena roll her eyes.
"What do you want?" Zelena asked. She couldn't be bothered with company, especially her little sisters company.
Regina shrugged her shoulders a little. "I don't want anything. I saw you…you looked sad so…I thought I'd come over. Is something wrong?"
Zelena frowned slightly at the question. "And what would make you think I would tell you? We have never exactly been close and shared all our secrets have we."
"Nope we haven't." Regina said shaking her head. "But that doesn't mean that we can't ever talk." Regina said. She sighed slightly as Zelena just stared out into the forest. She then shifted herself slightly so she was facing towards Zelena a bit more. "Listen I don't know about you but I am sick of fighting with you…and with mother but she's…"
"Mother…" Zelena finished with a slight raised eyebrow and the hint of a smile on her face.
Regina smiled and nodded her head. "Exactly. I know we have never been close…in fact I think we have both hated one another but…well I'm tired of hating you Zelena." Regina sighed.
Zelena bit her lip as she thought about what Regina had just said. If she was really honest she was tired of all the fighting too and she really was tired of hating her little sister. Everything she had been jealous of with her little sister seemed to have disappeared over time in Storybrooke and Zelena was beginning to see perhaps her little sister could actually be someone she could talk to because her mother certainly wasn't. She turned slightly to look at Regina who seemed to be studying her waiting for an answer. "And you think we can be…like…friends?" Zelena asked.
Regina shrugged slightly. "Sure why not. Sisters can be the best kind of friends." Regina said chirpily which made Zelena frown.
"How can you be so happy when mother and I continue to do things to ruin your happily ever after?" Zelena asked confused.
"I don't know. I guess I just try to not let it bring me down. Anyway I can't really remember what you and mother have done to me so…"
"So what is the last thing you remember?" Zelena asked.
"Being in the castle in the Enchanted Forest. We were to have dinner with King Leopold, mother and his daughter Snow White. You were to be married to the king." Regina explained.
"That was so long ago." Zelena sighed.
"And to me it was just like yesterday…literally." Regina replied and Zelena laughed a little at this causing Regina to smile. "See we can get along…"
Zelena looked over to Regina and gave her a smile. "I guess we have just never really tried to get along before."
"No we haven't" Regina said. She looked at Zelena and could tell there was still something else that was bothering her. Something she wished t talk about but didn't feel she could talk to anyone about. "So what is bothering you?"
"What?" Zelena asked frowning.
"Something's bothering you. What is it?" Regina asked.
"It's nothing." Zelena shrugged off.
"You know if you told me I might be able to help you." Regina said leaning forward a little and placing her hand on Zelena's which was resting on the log.
Zelena looked at Regina and then down at their hands. She bit her lip trying to decided what to do. Should she tell her sister? Should she let her know what is going on in her life? Would she understand more than her mother? She sighed and closed her eyes for a moment and decided to just take the plunge and talk to her sister. It was Regina, what was the worst that could happen right? She opened her eyes and pulled her hand away. Shuffling round slightly she sat like Regina so that she could face her more. "If I tell you please promise me that you won't tell anyone."
"I promise I won't." Regina said holding her hand up.
"Okay…" Zelena said nodding her head. "You see there's this…guy…" Zelena started and Regina gasped.
"You like someone?" She asked happily giving Zelena a big smile. "Who?"
"The doctor at the hospital…You know…Victor Whale…" Zelena said.
"Really? Well he's kinda cute." Regina replied.
Zelena nodded her head. "We have always gotten on. Even after everything I have done with mother and how I have treated people he is always just so nice to me and…"
"Do you think you love him?" Regina asked.
"I don't know." Zelena said shrugging her shoulders. "I mean We haven't even gone out on a date or anything. It's like every time he is going to ask me or I decide to finally ask him something stops us. Usually mother. I don't think anything is ever going to happen between us. I may as well just give up." Zelena sighed.
"Oh Zelena you can't do that." Regina said reaching for Zelena's hand again. "You can never give up on love. I mean…I don't know if this is a good example since I can't actually remember anything about Robin and I but he has not given up on love because mother has taken my memories. He took me out on a date to try and help me gain some of my memories. It might not have worked and mother may have crashed the date but he still tried and he is continuing to try..." Regina said. "My point is you should never give up on love when you think you may have it. Victor could possibly be your true love Zelena and that is too good to just give up on."
"You really think Victor could be my true love? I could have a true love?" Zelena asked.
"Of course you could have a true love Zelena and you will never know if it is Victor unless you give him the chance. Don't give up before you have had a chance."
"But how do I do it?" Zelena asked.
"Do what?" Regina frowned.
"Ask him? Should I ask him? Or should I just wait and see if he asks me? I have no idea what to do in this kind of situation." Zelena sighed.
"Believe it or not neither do I." Regina laughed a little. "Even if I had my memories back I don't think I would really know. From what everyone has told me Robin and I have been true loves from the moment we met one another. We have only been with one another. But I think maybe you should ask him. Be proactive about it."
"And you don't think that would make me look desperate?" Zelena asked.
Regina shook her head. "No I don't. At least if you asked him you would know if he felt the same about you and if he is worth taking a chance for."
Zelena nodded her head and bit her lip slightly. Maybe her little sister was right. maybe she should take the chance and ask Victor out. What harm could it really cause? If he said no then at least she would know the truth instead of wondering about it. She turned a little and looked at Regina. "Thanks. I…well I kind of liked talking to you." Zelena said with a smile.
"I liked talking to you too." Regina said leaning over and nudging Zelena with her shoulder a little.
"I'm sorry…" Zelena said quietly biting her bottom lip a little.
"You're sorry?"
"For what's happened and…well for everything else that has happened. I know you probably don't remember what we have done to you and to Robin but I am sorry about it. Mother…she just…well I don't really know what she wants. She doesn't think you and Robin should be together…she feels he's not good enough for you. She doesn't see that you truly love each other." Zelena said.
"Well at the minute I can't even see that…" Regina sighed as she swung her legs slightly and looked down.
"I really am sorry about that." Zelena said looking over at her little sister.
Regina merely shrugged her shoulders and looked over at her sister giving her a smile. "I'm sure I will figure out a way to remember. I have friends helping me. I'm sure everything will work out in time."
"I really cannot understand how you stay so positive." Zelena laughed a little shaking her head.
"Yea I don't know how either." Regina responded making Zelena laugh a little more.
They spent a little longer in the forest talking and laughing and actually beginning to bond with one another. For the first time in their lives they were actually enjoying each other's company and what they didn't know is that as they grew closer it would start the beginning of their mothers undoing.
I actually never had it planned that Zelena and Regina would end up bonding but an idea formed and it has helped me figure out how things with Zelena and Cora are going to pan out. So I hope you enjoyed the sisterly bonding between Zelena and Regina. There will be lots more :-)
