Chapter 29

SPOV

The past couple months have flown by. When we weren't working, we were overseeing the construction on the house or preparing for the babies. It seemed as if time was running out.

My poor body had taking a beating. I waddled everywhere and not at a fast pace either. I felt as big as a double wide trailer, and it didn't help that people would make sure that I had plenty of room to get through. I know they were just being nice and helpful, but I hated it. Aside from the fact I had no energy and it seemed as if I could never get comfortable, if I stayed on my feet for too long, they swelled up like a balloon. Dr. Kaz said I could go into labor at any time but he was hoping I was able to make it through at least one more month to get me closer to my due date. Hearing that, Carlos was never far away from me unless one of the other core team members could be with me. None of this was helping my moodiness.

I am currently getting ready for my baby shower. I was trying to get excited for it, but I really didn't want to go. The girls worked so hard on it, though, I was determined to go and have a good time. It was being held in the same room where Carlos and I were married so at least I didn't have far to go.

"Babe, are you ready?" My ever loving and patient husband asked.

"Yes." I said waddling my way over to him.

He gave me a hug and a soft kiss as he rubbed my belly.

"Let's get down to the party." He said as he placed his hand on the small of my back, leading me to the door.

When we walked in, I was completely shocked. It was beautifully decorated in soft pink, blues, greens, and yellows. When I'd first gotten pregnant, I'd asked them not to do Batman or Wonder Woman, but later had changed that and let them know they could do what they wanted. Looking around, I saw that they'd found baby Batman and baby Wonder Woman items to use as a theme, yet it wasn't overdone. I had a suspicion that Ella was responsible for the cakes. Each had three tiers and here too there was a baby Batman and a baby Wonder Woman. I couldn't imagine where they'd found all this, but I loved it.

Everyone that was at our wedding came to the baby shower. I didn't want to exclude Carlos from this, because he liked to stay close to me, so all were invited. I was overwhelmed by the amount of gifts.

I was overwhelmed by the amount of gifts that we received. I doubted we would be able to use them all if we were to have four babies instead of the two we were expecting. There were diapers in every size as well as baby wipes, blankets, bottles, various sized diaper bags, toys, stuffed animals, bedding for the cribs, onesies in several sizes, sleepers, outfits, pacifiers, baby monitors, matching cribs, a twin stroller, car seats, bassinets, playpens, bouncy seats, baby swings, dressers, high chairs, and every imaginable baby item ever conceived. I doubted we would need to buy anything for the babies until it was time for them to start kindergarten.

I started to cry.

"What's wrong, Babe?" Carlos asked with concern in his eyes.

"This is all too much, I can't believe what everyone got. Some of this is so expensive, they shouldn't have." I said through tears.

"Steph, they all love us and the babies. The big stuff came from the guys because they wanted to buy it for us." He said giving me a hug and kiss.

I turned to all of our family and friends. "I want to thank all of you for coming today and for everything you've gotten for us and the babies. I also want to thank my wonderful family and friends; Lula, Mary Lou, Val, Connie, Ella, (if Grandma Mazur helped, add Grandma, here) both of our moms, and Carlos's sisters for putting this together. You all did an amazing job." I said as I continued to cry.

"Stephanie, you guys deserve only the best. We had a lot of help but everyone wanted a hand in making this the best day." Lula said giving me a hug.

After all the games were played, we ate amazing food, and we thanked everyone for their kindness, everyone started to leave. Carlos helped me up stairs to seven for a nap.

Later that night after dinner we were cuddled up on the couch just relaxing watching some T.V.

"Babe, I have a couple more surprises for you." He said smiling.

"What?" I asked in disbelief, what more could I need?

"Well, tomorrow it will be a day for just you. I and everyone else will leave you alone to do what you want. I know that we've been hovering over you and you that you feel smothered. Soon, alone time won't be easy to come by. So take this time to do what you want. Ella will make sure you have whatever you need and if you need anyone all you have to do is call."

I thought of what I wanted to do.

He broke through my thoughts when he started talking again. "Also, today Julie was to be here to surprise you, but a storm delayed her flight. So she will be coming tomorrow to stay for a while. It will be at least till after the babies are born."

That did it, the tears started again. I was so excited to see Julie.

"Wait, my day alone can't be the same day Julie gets here!" I shouted.

"Babe, it was Julie's idea. She will be with the guys on five or she can help Ella. She will be fine. We will be back here for dinner tomorrow night." He said trying to calm my worries Julie would feel in the way or unwanted.

After that we went to bed.

Julie had told me that I needed to give Stephanie some alone time. She was right, I knew we were driving her crazy staying close in case she went into labor.

I couldn't help but worry, I couldn't let anything happen to any of them.

Although I had to pick Julie up at the airport, I was on edge being so far away from Steph. Jimmy had told me that he knew she wouldn't make it to her due date-which was July third, a little over a month away-and she could have the babies at any time. I'd made plans so that I'd be ready to get her to the hospital as fast as possible.

Now to pick up Julie and get back to Rangeman.

JULIE'S POV

I couldn't get off the plane fast enough. I missed the baby shower because of the stupid storm, I was getting to stay until the beginning of July. Mom wanted to try for me to be home by July 4th weekend. I hope the babies arrived before I had to go home. Mom did tell me that maybe I could come back for a couple of weeks before school started back up.

I spotted dad and we all but ran to get my bags and we were off for Rangeman.

Carlos was right, Ella had everything I could want. She had set up a baked potato bar as well as everything I might need for hot chocolate as well as an array of other foods that I'd frequently had cravings for. There were several movies I could watch and there was even stuff for a relaxing bath.

So far I had watched a few movies, taken a nap, and I felt as if I'd done nothing but snack all day. Meals were hard for me to eat because the babies were taking up so much stomach room. Jimmy had said for me to try snacking instead of eating full meals, so that's what I'd been doing.

I decided to take a soothing bath as my back had been really hurting me today. After getting it all ready, I put the phone on the counter by the sink just in case I needed it.

I slowly lowered myself in the tub, enjoying the warm water.

Once the water started to cool, I decided it was time I get out and get ready for dinner. Carlos and Julie should be up soon.

I braced myself in order to pull myself up out of the tub, using the handles that Carlos had had Louis install so I could get into and out of the tub easier. I had just gotten to my feet when I felt a pain in my stomach unlike anything I had ever felt before. After a bit it stopped and I managed to get out of the tub. Soon another pain hit.

Shit! I'm in labor. I better get dressed to go to the hospital.

I called Carlos.

Julie and I had been back to Rangeman for about two hours. She was talking with the guys while I made an attempt to get some work done. I wasn't having too much success when my phone rang. From the ringtone, I knew it was Stephanie. "Babe?"

"I'm in labor," was her only reply.

"On my way," I said as I stood and was out of my office and at Tank's door before I'd disconnected the call. Not bothering to knock I opened the door and said, "Steph's having the babies."
