I would make this chapter longer, but I really wanted to update and stop keeping you people in suspense. So I apologise for the shortness. The rest shall be here soon!
The Five Marauders, Year Five
Chapter 29
Sirius POV
She told us everything, starting from where she went after our fight, all the way up to when she woke up in this bed. She was talking for almost an hour, only inturrupted by the arrival of the headmaster and some guy called David. She was talking in this quiet, raspy and weak voice, but though there was a big group of us, no one other than her made a noise. We devoured each and every single word, listening intently to Jamie's awfully brutal and upsetting story, stroking her hand and hair all the time trying to give her all the support I could as she recalled the awful memories.
I clenched my free hand when Jamie told us about all the torture she went through and actually made some kind of noise that was between a shocked scream and an angry yell when I found out what Blyth, that filthy dog did to her. And then, with pure fear in her eyes, Jamie confessed of the torture my own cousin put her through.
Jamie's escape story was what fascinated me the most. She told us about how after delivering her one of the meals, someone left her door open and how she managed to slip out of the castle undetected, unlike in her first attempt, and then how she ran as far as she could though she had no strength. Then collapsing it the woods, and waking up in a small cottage with a smiling man there to help her. I felt that there was more to the story, but she just didn't tell us because the adults were there.
It all made sense however when, after McGonagall asked her how she managed to run all this way after being so abused, Jamie simply replied, "I guess I was just being Feirce."
Jamie fell asleep shortly after she finished speaking, which was, in reality, the early hours of the day. Madam Pomfrey tried to send us away to bed, but all four of us refused to leave, so instead she had to settle for lying us down in some of her beds and telling us to sleep. I didn't shift though. I stayed put right by Jamie's side, her hand in mine, watching her sleep.
I couldn't stop thinking about what she's been through. She's only sixteen and already she'd been through so much. Personally, I don't think I'd be able to take it.
"Do you think she'll ever be the same?" James asked.
He was lying on the bed beside Jamies with his hands behind his head and eyes closed, so I assumed he was asleep. He obviously want though.
"She's always been so strong," I replied, "Maybe she can stay strong and get through this."
"She's so young," James was, as always, speaking what I was thinking, "and she's already suffered so much. What if she goes mad?"
"I'll go mad with her."
James opened his eyes and finally looked at me.
"So you love her again?" he asked.
"Stupid question," I replied, looking down at the sleeping girl, "I never really stopped."
Madam Pomfrey woke us up the following morning, asking whether we'd prefer to eat breakfast in the hospital wing or with the rest of the school. Naturally, none of us wanted to leave Jamie's side, however Remus (always the voice of reason) decided that he and Peter should go and inform all of our other friends of the good news.
Turns out there was no point, however. Shortly after leaving, Peter returned, red in the face and gasping for breath. He told us that he ran as fast as he could to let us know that Dumbledore announced to the whole school that Jay in very much alive and now the whole school wanted to get to the hospital wing to see for themselves. Of course, Madam Pomfrey kept the hospital wing closed and got some ghosts to guard the enterance.
That didn't stop people coming in though. All of a sudden students with various different broken bones, hexed skin and unexisting illnesses flooded the hospital wing, finally forcing the nurse to pull a white curtain around Jay.
Although the hospital wing was alive with people trying to sneak a peak at her, Jamie was oblivious to all the attention. I've never seen anyone in such a deep sleep, and I share a dorm with some of the heaviest sleepers I have ever hear of. No loud noise, change in light or burst of air brought every time the doors were pushed open would even distrupt her sleep. She didn't even react when Madam Pomfrey started fussing around her, muttering spells and waving a wand over her whole body. She just slept.
We were quite worried when even after 15 hours of sleep, Jay still hasn't woken up, but madam pomfrey assured us that after all the potions she was given, not to mention the stress and abuse her body and mind went through, it was to be expected.
Remus returned at some point, bearing the news of the outside.
"You three better not get out of here any time soon," was the first thing he said, "Otherwise trust me, Evans and Charm will have your heads."
"And why is that?" James asked, immediately interested after hearing the names.
"Neither of them are allowed to come in here, and they think that is incredibly unfair that we get to sit with Jay when we haven't actually been acting like friends for quite a long time," Remus replied with a gloomier tone, then softly asked, "How is she?"
"Asleep," Peter replied.
"She'll sleep through the rest of the day and the night, according to Poppy," I informed.
"Good. She needs to rest," Remus said, looking at Jamie.
It was only then that I noticed just how worn out and weak Remus really looked and even more guilt flooded me. I was so depressed over Jamie, that I completely forgot that Remus needs us too!
"When's the next full moon, Remus?" I asked seriously.
"Tonight," Came the reply.
All of our heads snapped to look at Remus, completely shocked.
"Why didn't you remind us?!" all three of us exclaimed, then immediately looked at Jamie to see if we didn't accidentally wake her up. She didn't even stir.
"You guys were so upset about Jamie. And so was I. I thought it'd be better if I went on my own."
"No way!" James exclaimed, "Remus, we are not letting you go alone."
"Someone needs to stay with Jamie," He tried to reason.
"I can stay," I offered, "James and Peter can go with you. If you can manage without me, that is."
"We'll be fine," James assured.
"Really guys, you don't have to. Jamie's more important," Remus tried to argue, but the case was already closed.
"You're both equally important, so shut up. We're coming whether you like it or not," James snapped, "Isn't that right, Peter?"
Peter only nodded.
