Epilogue
It took months in the planning. Fourteen, to be precise. But it was finally time. All was arranged. Guests were gathered, from both Earth and the PLANTS. It was a big day in the PLANTS calender of Celebrity events.
The Wedding of Lacus Clyne to Kira Yamato.
It seemed almost a mirror of what had happened for the Athha-Ottada wedding. Though, minus the hysterics and nervous pacing. Kira wasn't the pacing type. Lacus wasn't the hysterical type. Things were running like clock work. All the guests were on time and seated in the venue chosen for the ceremony. It wasn't as big or grand as Cagalli's wedding. But it had a very Lacus Clyne feel to it. Beautiful, simple and joyous. As with the previous wedding event, the men were all gathered together in the drawing room of the large house Kira and Lacus lived in. The girls, were all upstairs in the room designated as the bridal suite. Each man had a snifter of brandy, to celebrate. Their suits were ivory in color, with crisp white shirts and flower buttons on their lapels of the palest of blue hued Orchids. Kira wore a deep blue bow tie, while the other men, wore lilac colored bow ties.
Up in the bridal suite, the ladies were all cheerful, laughing and cooing over the La Flaga twins. At five months old, the fraternal twins were adorable. Finn La Flaga was sat on Cagalli's lap, dressed cutely in a miniature version of the suits the men wore, his crop of brunette hair having the natural tussled effect like his father and big blue eyes that made every woman coo. Lara La Flaga on the other hand, was blond like her father with hair down to her waist and saucer like chocolate eyes. She was currently sat on her mothers lap, happily toying with a strand of ribbon. Her dress, being another miniature, this time of the bridesmaids dresses. All the ladies who would stand by Lacus were dressed in simple and slightly flared out dresses of satin in a deep aubergine color. The bride, was dressed in a pale mauve with lilac orchids in her bouquet.
As with the previous wedding, back on Earth, there were two limousines to ferry the groom and the bride separately. The group of men were the first to arrive, taking their positions to await the women. As each one came down the isle before the bride, their respective dates would smile and notice...once again...how beautiful they were. The ceremony itself was sweetly romantic, with the bride and groom standing below a rose covered arbour. As with the Athha-Ottada wedding, the Yamato-Clyne wedding was also televised. As the bride and groom set off back down the isle as husband and wife, their friends followed them. Everyone gathered for a group photo outside, Mina and Cagalli sitting on the warm grass with Finn and Lara, Kazuhiko and Athrun knelt beside them, Murrue and Mu to the left of Kira with Lacus to his right and to her right Dearka, Yzak, Shiho and Kayla.
It would be a picture to be treasured.
The reception went off as well as the one for Cagalli and Kazuhiko's had done. There was dancing, a buffet of delicious food, even a chocolate fountain. Murrue chose to stay seated for a while, watching over her son and daughter. Mu wasn't far away either. Myrna offered to watch the twins, as their mother had just put them down in their buggy for a nap. That gave Mu the opportunity to get his lovely wife onto the dance floor. Joining the newly-weds, along with their other friends. It was again another scene of couples dancing. Athrun hadn't been sure if Mina could dance, as it had not been more than a couple months since her brace was taken off. But she got up and grabbed his hand, tugging him up onto the dance floor. Surprising him, by managing quite well. Slowly, carefully, but well. All the couples swayed to romantic music. All was right. As it should be. No wars. Just happiness.
"Ivory suits you Athrun." Mina commented, as she swayed with him, her arms around his neck.
"Thank you." He replied, then nuzzled her hair that had grown long again "And may I say that shade of purple looks lovely on you."
"You may and thank you." She smiled, sighing contently in his arms "You know, when I get married, I don't want a big fancy wedding like this."
"When you get married?" Athrun blinked, it shocked him what she had said "Are you planning to do that soon?"
"Well, I have to figure out the best way to get my boyfriend to ask me." She giggled softly, shifting to look up in his eyes "What? You thought I meant someone else?"
"No I, well that is, it didn't..." He stumbled over his own words, frowning when Mina laughed "What?"
"You thought I meant someone else and you got jealous." She chuckled "Admit it, you were worried I had my eye on some other guy."
"No, I would never think that...but..." He looked at her carefully now "Oh I see, you were just messing with me, huh?"
She couldn't stop laughing now. He was so easy to torment. Her laughter stopped the second his arms dragged her tight against him. She gasped softly, looked into his smouldering Viridian eyes and instantly felt hot all over.
"Well, I'm going to make sure, you never mess with me again Mina." Athrun said, sounding dead serious.
"A-Athrun?" She gulped, wondering what he was planning.
Pressing his mouth to her ear, he uttered in soft words only she would hear, his hands pressed against the small of her back to keep so very close.
"Marry me Mina." He said simply.
"Uh! Athrun!" She gasped, surprised at his words.
"Say yes Mina." He told her, reaching into his pocket and tugging out a small box "Say you'll marry me Mina. Please?"
He opened the box, to show her the simple ring, a yellow gold band with two stones crowning the top of it. An Emerald and a Ruby. It was so beautifully understated. Perfectly lovely. As she lifted her gaze from the ring to his eyes, hers filled with tears and he suddenly looked panicked. But she smiled at him. That smile was all it took to tell him, she was happy not sad. Before he could speak again, Mina crushed her lips to his, for an extremely heated kiss. He was left flush cheeked when she pulled back enough to put her lips to his ear, copying his own move.
"Athrun..." She whispered, sliding her right hand into his hair "Yes."
Stunned to silence a moment, Athrun was sure he was dreaming.
"Mina, did you just say..." He began, but she cut in.
"I said yes Athrun." She leaned back to look in those eyes again "I said yes I'll marry you."
It was Athrun's turn to blush now. Mina giggled at that. Shaking his head to clear it, he took the ring from the box and slipped it slowly onto her finger. As their eyes met again, she smiled and he returned it.
"I love you Mina. I swear I will protect you, till the day death parts us." He told her, holding her against him.
"And I love you, Athrun and I also swear to protect you, till death do we part." She replied, angling her head knowing he was about to kiss her again.
And he did. Gently, a long drawn out kiss. He pulled back just a little, their lips barely touching still.
"I think we should wait, till after Lacus and Kira get back from their honeymoon, before we share the news." He said, not wanting to take any of the spotlight from his friends.
"I agree, I want to enjoy this moment as long as I can." She replied, pressing a light kiss to his lips, before moving her head to nuzzle under his chin.
"So do I, Mina. So do I." Athrun rested his chin on her hair, and just swayed with her.
Lost in the moment. Deaf to all around him. His only thoughts, were of Mina. His only wishes, that he could make her happy.
For the rest of their days together.
