Just so you all know, my actual name is Elena and I'm Mexican and my brother's name really is Alejandro. I did not take it from Zorro. That never even crossed my mind.

Chapter 29

Stay Safe

Elena's POV

When I woke up the next morning, Thorin was already getting dressed. I sat up with a sheet around me.

"I was going to wake you up before I left. So you could say goodbye." he said.

He turned and I crawled to the edge of the bed. He moved my hair behind my ear and smiled sadly.

"Will you not come with me?"

I closed my eyes.

"I cannot. Should Smaug come here, I may be the only hope they have. And I will not let these people die. Not after what they have done for us." I said.

He pulled me into his arms and his breath warmed my cold skin.

"You are brave. So brave Elena. That is one of the many things I love about you. Even if something scares you, you do not show it. Never lose who you are Elena. No matter what happens, you stay the strong and loving woman that you are."

I held onto him and fought back my tears.

"I love you Thorin. A'melamin." I whispered.

He pulled back and kissed my lips. When we separated I got dressed and I followed him to the docks. I looked at my little brother.

"You stay with Thorin and you listen to what he tells you. Am I understood?"

"Yeah I know. He'll probably tie me up and leave me at the door anyway. That way I won't get into trouble."

"I see no problem with that." I looked towards Thorin. "Thorin! You have my permission to tie him up and leave him at the door!"

He nodded and I looked back at my brother. I hugged him tightly.

"Please stay safe. Stay alive."

"I always do. And I'll keep Thorin safe too."

I kissed his cheek and then pat his shoulder.

"Be strong."

He nodded and then got on the boat.

"Te amo." I said.

"Love you too."

Thorin now came to me. I was smiling but there were tears in my eyes.

"No tears Elena. You must be strong. Soon you will be queen, and you shall rule by my side as a great queen. I promised you I would survive, I intend to keep that promise."

I nodded and then I noticed Kili.

"What is wrong with Kili?"

Thorin sighed.

"He is ill and I cannot risk this quest for that. I am having him join us when he is healed. Take care of him."

I nodded and he kissed me passionately, in full view of everyone. When we separated I smiled.

"Be careful."

"I always am."

He gave me one last kiss and then got onto the boat. I let a few tears fall but then I turned and walked back to Kili. He was deathly pale and I saw his leg. I knelt down and then remembered the arrow. We went looking for help but no one would help us. We had no choice but to go back to Bard. He opened the door and scowled at us.

"No. I am done with dwarves, go away."

"No wait please!" I said.

Bofur stopped him from closing the door.

"Please no one will help us. Kili is sick."

We all looked back at Kili. He could barely stand and he was paler than before if possible.

"He is very sick."

Bard looked at him and I could see the kindness in his eyes.

"Very well. Bring him inside."

We brought him in and laid him down. He was growing worse.

Thorin's POV

We made it to the mountain and we found the hidden door, but we did not know if Smaug was alive or not. I heard Bilbo ask what the Arkenstone was and I slowly turned.

"That, Master burglar, is why you are here."

We all looked at him and he seemed a bit concerned.

"I'll go with him." Alejandro said.

"No!"

"I'm a grown man I can go if I want."

I challenged him with a stare and shook my head.

"Until we know that the dragon is dead I will not let you go in there." I said.

"You suck man."

I sighed and shook my head.

Elena's POV

We had nowhere else to go, but to Bard. He opened the door and scowled at us.

"No! I am done with dwarves! Go away!"

"No wait! No one will help us. Kili is sick! He is very sick!"

I looked at him.

"Please…..I cannot lose him. He is my nephew. He is family."

He looked at me and then at Kili. He let us in and we laid Kili down. I stood beside him and wiped the sweat from his forehead. He looked at me.

"Did you mean what you said? About me?"

I smiled and nodded.

"Yes Kili I did. I love you, your brother and your uncle. You are my family. Which means I will never let you get hurt. And I will not let you die like this." I said.

He just nodded and I did everything I could to make him comfortable. As the day went on he only got worse. By nightfall all he did was writhe and scream in pain.

"Oin!"

He came over and tried to find something to help.

"Can you not do something?" Fili asked.

"I need herbs, something to bring down his fever." Oin said.

Bard brought several herbs to his table.

"Nightshade, fever fuel….."

"They are of no use to me, do you have any kingsfoil?" Oin asked.

"No, it is a weed. We feed it to the pigs."

"Weed?"

I looked at Bofur.

"Right." He looked at Kili. "Do not move."

I shook my head as he ran off. Kili grabbed my hand and I looked at him.

"It hurts!" he hissed.

"I know, I know. I wish I could take it on myself. Bofur will be back soon and you will be right as rain. I promise. Just hold on and be strong." I said.

He nodded and squeezed my hand tightly. The ground began to shake and the youngest girl, Tilda, looked frightened.

"Da?" Sigrid asked.

"It is coming from the mountain." Bain said.

I closed my eyes.

"You should leave us. Take your children and get out of here." Fili said.

Bard turned to him.

"And go where? There is nowhere to go." he whispered.

"Are we going to die Da?" Tilda asked.

"No darling."

"The dragon, it is going to kill us?"

A look of resiliance came to his face. He reached up and yanked on the bar holding the herbs and pots. It was not a bar, but a black arrow!

"Not if I kill it first." he said.

I stepped forward.

"What are you planning to do?" I asked.

"Whatever I can do to protect my children."

He and his son left and the little one looked at me.

"Are we going to die miss?"

I shook my head and knelt down in front of her.

"Not as long as I live."

She nodded and I sighed. I had a strange feeling of danger and I looked around. I saw nothing and Fili looked at me.

"What is it?"

I did not even have to answer. Sigrid's scream answered for me. The orcs had found us. She tried to close the door but the orc got in. I pushed her behind me and the orc tried to stab me. My skin bent his sword and he looked at me. I grabbed his throat and lifted him in the air. I snapped his neck and then tossed him aside. More were coming and then Tauriel appeared. I smiled at her and I saw Legolas drop down from a hole in the ceiling. He smiled at me and then started to help kill the orcs. I heard Kili shout and stab an orc about to kill Tauriel. He fell to the ground in pain and I flew to his side.

"You killed them all." Bain said.

"There are others. Tauriel…"

He walked to the door but Tauriel could not seem to move. Oin looked at me.

"We are losing him."

Tear sprang to my eyes and I looked at Kili, whose eyes were beginning to close.

"Tauriel."

I heard Legolas leave and Tauriel started to. Kili cried out in pain and she stopped. I heard someone running up the stairs and she reached for her knives. I was too busy trying to find a way to help Kili I almost did not hear her say,

"I am going to save him."

I looked at her and she ran inside, Bofur was right behind her. She had what I knew to be Kingsfoil in her hands. She started to telling us what we needed to do and I helped get Kili on the table.

"Hold him down." Tauriel said.

I had to be gentle because I knew I could easily hurt him. He was struggling and shouting in pain.

"Menno nin na hon i eliad annen annin, hon leitho o ngurth." Tauriel chanted.

She continued to chant and Kili slowly began to relax. He stared at Tauriel and started to breathe normally again. I smiled and looked at Tauriel.

"Its working!" I said.

She stopped chanting and Kili fell asleep. She felt his forehead and then smiled a bit.

"He will be alright."

I smiled and took her hand.

"Hannon le Tauriel."

She smiled and nodded. She bound Kili's leg and I heard him wake up.

"Tauriel?"

She looked at him with a small smile.

"Lie still."

"You cannot be her. She is far, far away from me. She walks in starlight in another world."

The look on Tauriel's face made me smile. I saw Kili reaching for her hand.

"Do you think she could have loved me?"

I smiled and thought of Thorin. I guess before Thorin and myself there was never such a thing as elf and dwarf together. Fili was also smiling a bit and stroking his moustache.

"My brother the lucky one." he muttered.

I smirked.

"You will find someone someday Fili. And she will also be beautiful." I said.

"And here my uncle always thought I would be the first."

He chuckled and shook his head. I walked to the window and looked out towards the mountain.

Please Thorin be safe. You too Alejandro.
