Chapter 29
"I think you are good to go back to work."
Anne beamed at T'Alera's words and could barely contain her excitement.
It had been two weeks since Pallin's stabbing at the Academy and the following confrontation with Craxius.
Since then, there had been no word from the other turian except a small message to say he had yet to receive a response from Ortho himself.
The man himself had gone silent with no messages to Anne.
Happily, the small blonde had gotten a lot better in the meantime.
Pallin himself had healed almost completely and had returned to work only the day before - a remarkable feat considering how deep the wounds had actually been.
He sat on the couch watching Anne bounce up and down on her many toed feet while T'Alera went over the ground rules for her return to work.
"... if you start feeling sick or weak then you need to stop and come home. Contact me immediately. We cannot afford a relapse."
Anne nodded gleefully.
Pallin smiled as he watched her almost boundless joy at the news before letting his gaze skim appreciatively over her form.
There was definitely more flesh on her, confirmed by the steady weight increase on the scales over the past couple of weeks. Her curves had become more pronounced and Pallin found it hard not to touch them constantly.
She had also lost that vaguely unhealthy pallor that had coloured her skin and her hair that once had been limp was now almost as full of life as she was.
It had grown down to nearly touch the top of her shoulders, still wild and jagged at the ends but she intended on having it trimmed to Pallin's displeasure.
"Don't worry. I'll make sure to follow your instructions," Anne chuckled. She grinned at Pallin. "I'm gonna call Marcus and arrange for when I start back!"
The barefooted human skipped back to the spare room that they had marked out as hers.
Pallin got back on to his feet slowly.
"Thank you, T'Alera. You have been instrumental in her recovery."
The asari smiled warmly at him. "Just doing my job. Have you talked to her about her scarring?"
"We have talked in-depth over the situation. It is all in hand."
"But... what did she say?"
Pallin stopped the line questioning almost immediately. "I cannot speak to you of an ongoing investigation. When I am able to give you details then I shall. For now, there is nothing I can say to you on the matter."
T'Alera huffed in disappointment before she changed the subject. "Ahem... so the Councillor's dinner is this week... have you thought over what I asked? I have gotten the impression that you are avoiding the topic."
The turian shook his head. "Forgive me. I have been so busy with other things that it has slipped my mind but I do feel that we would be better suited as friends."
"But we don't have to be-"
"I am with someone else."
The doctor froze. "Oh... forgive me. I never would have pushed the subject if I had known. How long have you been... is it someone I know?"
"We have been together for several weeks now and no... you don't know her."
T'Alera nodded. "Will you be bringing her to the dinner?"
"I am afraid not. She lives on Palaven full-time."
"Oh. Long distance then."
"Indeed."
They stood awkwardly together in the living room. Pallin watched the asari shuffle awkwardly and look around at random areas in the living room before finally speaking up.
"I, ah, I better go. Things to do."
"Thank you, T'Alera, for all of your help. I do not forgot those who aid me when I have needed it. If ever there is something I can do for you – within legal lines – then do let me know."
The asari gave him a faint smile. "Thank you."
She headed swiftly for the door.
"Do you not want to say goodbye to Anne?" Pallin asked.
"I don't have time. I'll see her during the week," she shouted back.
With that, T'Alera left.
Pallin closed the door behind her.
A stray thought entered his head. He grinned before reaching over to activate the lock.
Just in case he mused to himself.
The turian strolled contentedly to the spare bedroom.
As he approached the door, he noticed there was no noise from within. Pallin had long ago assured Anne that he would respect her privacy and he intended on keeping that promise even in the relationship they found themselves in.
He knocked.
"Anne?"
"You can come in."
The human stood in her underwear staring at the reflection of herself within the full length mirror on the wall.
Pallin's eyes roamed over her bared flesh. "What are you doing?"
Anne was pinching at her body, staring at the muscle and fat that covered over the bones that once protruded from her skin. "I'm not used to this."
"Do you not like it?"
"Oh I do! It's just... " Anne whimpered a little. "I am used to a skeleton staring back at me. When I first came to the station and I saw all the other humans like me that didn't look like me... what was me anyway..." Anne spun around to face him. "I never thought I would ever get to be like them!"
"And here you are."
He stepped forward and gently ran his hands down her arms, watching her skin prick up in goosebumps under his touch.
"How did the call with Craxius go?" he hummed.
"Good. He has arranged for me to start work tomorrow."
Pallin stopped his caresses. "Tomorrow!?"
Anne shrugged. "He is short-staffed. Oh! He wanted me to tell you to call in to see him in the afternoon. He said that he has someone who wants to meet you."
"He could have told me that himself. A time?"
"Marcus said he would contact you with that. He just wanted me to give you some advance notice."
The turian sighed before he turned his attention back to Anne's soft skin.
He started nuzzling her neck, making his way up to her face before kissing her. Pallin moaned slightly as he felt her arms wrap themselves around his neck.
He suddenly grabbed a firm hold of her hips and hoisted her up. The slight human yelped in surprise as Pallin laid her across the bed before he yanked off his own top and loosened his pants.
Anne dragged him down on top of her.
Over the intervening weeks, they had progressed slowly in their sexual relationship.
Pallin had relentlessly researched human sexuality and had aided Anne in finding information about his own species. They had moved from kissing and touching to slightly more advanced aspects - the pace almost entirely driven by Anne.
The previous night was the first time they had delved into more human acts. She had swallowed him into her warm soft mouth while he had used his own to bring her to completion. The orgasm he had pretty much destroyed both his brain and any lingering doubts of whether they were compatible or not.
For Anne, her first real orgasm had awoken a side of herself that had never really been allowed to flourish and she demanded more which Pallin was eager to provide. By the time morning arrived, neither of them had had any sleep.
"We should really... wait..." Pallin gasped as Anne yanked off her underwear after she had made her demands known to him. She was anxious to take that last step and dug her nails into his neck as she bucked her hips up to his inquisitive fingers. The turian groaned as he found her soft folds soaking wet already.
"I can't wait any longer. If you want to stop-" she hissed out.
To her surprise, Pallin kissed her forcefully before his hips ground off her own.
He was just reaching for the drawer of the side-table where he had the clarity of mind during the week to place condoms when there was a noise outside.
It sounded as if someone was trying to enter the apartment.
Both froze.
Pallin quickly got off Anne and grabbed his top.
"Don't move," he whispered before heading outside while adjusting his pants. Nothing like an unannounced visitor to kill the mood Pallin thought as his more vulnerable parts retreated back into their protective cavity. He grimaced at the dull pain of the still swollen organs being crushed into the compact space.
As he stepped into the livingroom, the main door shook again. The person outside was hammering on it.
"VENARI! Open this damn door!"
Pallin's eyes rolled in his head as soon as he heard the voice. "Spirits damn it."
He padded over, shook his head at the person revealed on the surveillance footage before finally opening the door.
"Hello Laelia."
"Brother!"
