Papa Jones blues
Chapter 29
Spending the following days dividing their time between recording their album and preparing for Davy and Stephanie's impending wedding, the four monkees learned that they would be meeting with their new record producer within the next day or so.
With so much going on at once, everybody was becoming stressed over making sure that everything is perfect and that nothing or no one could sabotage things.
Although everything with the wedding and baby shower was set and ready to go, the other three monkees were still interested in which one Davy would be choosing as his best man. Since he didn't want to hurt any of their feelings, Davy decided to just choose all three of them for the sake of avoiding any arguments.
It was a Wednesday morning, two days now before the wedding/baby shower when the guys were waiting in the recording studio for Mr. Johnson and the new producer to arrive. As they were warming up their instruments, Davy cleared his throat and told his three friends that he had made a decision about who should be his best man.
"Okay, I made my decision."Davy sighed
"Decision for what Davy?"asked peter
"For will should be the best man at mine and Stephanie's wedding."said Davy
"It's me right?"Micky asked with a grin
"No. "said Davy "It's not you Micky."
"You ain't gotta pick me tiny, since im probably gonna be too busy with giving my sister away."said Mike
"Davy, whoever you pick is your decision to make, so dont let any of us try to make the decision for you."said Peter
"Actually Peter, I think that the three of you will be glad to know that I've decided to make all three of you best man."said Davy
"Taking the easy way out?"asked Micky
"Easy Way Out?"said Mike as he slapped Micky on the arm "Look Davy, are you sure about what you're saying?"
"I'm sure."said Davy "I think of the three of you not as roommates or band mates, but as brothers."
Before either monkee had a chance to say anything, there was a knock on the recording booth door, and then Mr. Johnson entered the both with another gentleman whom Mr. Johnson introduced as the new record producer.
"Boys, id like you to meet John Henderson."said Mr .Johnson
"Hi. "All for monkees said in unison
"So Mr. Johnson says you boys are some of the best musicians in town, and I just had to hear for myself. "said john
"We aim to please."said Micky as he twirled his drum sticks between his fingers
"Don't mind Micky, he's just trying to show off."said Peter
"That's alright, I think that having a sense of humor during recording sessions is what keeps everyone sane."said john with a smile
"I really like him."said Davy As he pointed toward John
"What do you think Nesmith?"asked Mr .Johnson
"Since these three don't have a problem with the new producer, I guess I don't either."Mike said with a shrug
"Good, now whenever you guys feel ready to start recording, we'll start making some music."said john add he and Mr. Johnson left the recording booth
Taking a few more minutes to warm up, Mike knocked on the glass pane to let both John and Mr. Johnson know that they were ready to start recording. Having a pretty easy going recording session, the guys left the recording studio that after noon in good moods, and headed home to the pad.
Once they arrived home, the four monkees heard the sounds of two familiar voices on the opposite side of the door, along with two other voices that Mike couldnt quite put his finger on.
Entering the house at the same time, they were met by Stephanie and Aunt Kate along with Mike's two cousins from Texas Lucy and Clara. Closing the door, Mike stayed in the middle of the room starting at his two cousins, who soon had grins upon both of their faces.
"Whatever the two of you are planning on those little heads of yours, put them in the back of your minds right now."said Mike
"Really cousin, why would you think such a thing about kin folk?"asked Clara with a sigh
"Oh don't pay any attention to Mike, he just doesn't know how to treat such lovely ladies."Micky said as he kissed both Lucy and Clara's hands
"Why Micky dolenz, I see you ain't changed a bit since the last time we've met."Clara said blushing
Rolling their eyes at the same time, Stephanie noticed the way Peter and Lucy were looking at one another from across the room. Whispering to Lucy to go over there and talk to him, Stephanie knew that if she was going to get the two of them to talk, she would have to help the two of them in someway.
"Pete, you remember my cousin Lucy right?"asked Stephanie
"How could I forget?"Peter said with a smile
"Hello again. "Lucy said shyly
"Maybe y'all should go some place, and do some catching up."said Stephanie
"Lucy, would you like to go for a walk in the beach with me?"asked Peter
"I'd love to."Lucy said as she took Peter's arm
Watching as the two of them left the house, Stephanie soon became red in the face as Mike and Davy both looked at her and shook their heads at the same time. Since he still didn't have anyone to bring to the wedding, Mike left the pad,got into the monkee mobile and headed to the laundromat to go and talk to April.
Heading into the building the second he parked the car, Mike walked through the door and saw April busy sweeping up the laundromat floor.
"I'm sorry, but we're closed."April said without looking up
"I ain't here to do any laundry, I'm here to see you."said Mike as he leaned against the change machine
"Oh, it's you."April said with a sigh
"Now what kind of greeting is that?"asked Mike
"I'm sorry, it's just been a busy day down here."said April
"Oh."said Mike "I was just wondering if maybe you'd want to go grab a bite to eat."
"There's not going to be anyone fighting over me again is there?"asked April
"No, its only me. "said Mike "the others are home getting ready for the wedding in a couple days."
"Wedding?"April asked raising an eyebrow "Whose getting married?"
"Davy is marrying my kid sister, so how'd you like to be my date for the little event?"said Mike
"Wow, you really know how to change the subject of a conversation fast don't you."said April
"So what do ya say?"asked Mike
"I suppose I can."April sighed
Smiling after April agreed to go with him to the wedding in a couple of days, Mike opened the laundromat door as he and April left to go grab something to eat. Now that he had asked April to be his date, the only real problem he had to deal with was, having to give his little sister away at her wedding.
