A.N.: Here's another update of Book 3 of my Different Upbringing Series.
No reviews = No updates.
Another long chapter, yay!
Something that you all will find interesting, I was at this oriental store the other day because my mom loves the vegetable selection there. Anyway, we were in this isle looking at sauces and such and I saw a sauce called "Katsu Sauce". The irony right? Hehe. When I first chose Katsu's name, it was from a list of Japanese Names. Now what do you know, it is related to food! Lol. Thought you all would enjoy that.
Hero ben: Trunks and Vitani can't disappear the way Goku did. Goku uses a technique called Instant transmission. Trunks and Vitani don't know how to do that. Only Goku knows how to do that. But, those parts with Trunks and Vitani as well as Mrs. Briefs are funny, aren't they? Thanks for the review! :D
Heseltine: Yeah, I kind of figured that Gohan and Arata's scene would be the highlight of the chapter and I really wanted to continue to show just how insecure she is about the bond. Didn't notice that mistake I made in the spelling, thanks for pointing it out. I tend to type so fast that I don't notice it and when I finish, I'm too tired to do any editing. Thanks for you review! :D
James1996: Glad you liked the twins' moment. Yeah, Vitani and Natsuki's fused form will be interesting, won't it. Hehe, still coming to a permeant decision on that one. Anyway, thanks for the review! :D
kitsunelover300: Their fused form will probably be very much like you said with a few tweaks here and there. You're theory on the mind meld with fusion is very viable and I very well may use that. It would definitely make them stronger as friends as well as fighters. Arata doesn't doubt that Gohan had a rough time, she's still a bit stuck on her own past. The bond will definitely show both sides. And I agree, Mirai Gohan had more of a horrible time compared to his alternate timeline counterpart. Thanks for the review and sorry about the slightly later then meant to be update! :D
Snow: I agree with you, the whole thing of only guys being permeant fighters in DBZ is the whole reason I decided to write this story. The whole moment with Katsu cutting Natsuki off from what Arata called Katsu is the type of scenes I like to write: the ones where the kids says something/or starts to say something, when they really shouldn't. Hehe, I know I did that to my mom plenty of times when I was a little girl. The ending bit…heheh…poor Gohan. Thanks for the review! :D
Anony: Arata is always going to be nervous about that until it actually happens. The girls are young, I address that a bit again with Natsuki in this chapter. Thanks for the review! :D
Enjoy the Chapter.

Chapter Twenty Eight
-Time Is Running Out-
-Natsuki's POV-
"What's the matter? What's wrong Dad?" Goten asked from where he was sitting when Goku's attention shifted to something else.
Goten's question, as well as the look in Goku's eyes, caused others to look at Goku in confusion. Piccolo walked forward, coming up behind Goku. "Goku, what is it you're sensing?" he questioned.
Natsuki tilted her head a bit. "Grandpa?" she asked from her spot standing next to Katsu.
"It's…Majin Buu. He's-He's killed Babidi." Goku informed.
"He killed him!" Krillin exclaimed.
"Well, this is quite a surprising turn of events." Piccolo commented.
Goku kept his concentration on Majin Buu while he talked. "I had a feeling that he might. They didn't really seem to get along." He stated.
"What does that mean?" Natsuki asked Katsu in a low voice while looking up at him.
Katsu shrugged. "Don't know what to tell you, kid." He said.
"So, what happens now?" Piccolo spoke. "There isn't anyone telling Majin Buu what to do anymore. There's no denying that Babidi was the brains in that operation."
"So, maybe things will turn out happy after all, guys." Bulma said happily.
"Yeah." Krillin agreed.
Katsu crossed his arms. "I highly doubt that." He disagreed. "Babidi may be gone, but with the way Majin Buu acts, he'll do anything he wants to."
Goku nodded, agreeing with Katsu. "I agree. All we can do it hope." He said.
Those that could sense power levels immediately felt Majin Buu's power spike. Helplessly watching from the Lookout, they felt as Majin Buu destroyed the city he came across next. Natsuki gripped Katsu's leg for what felt like the hundredth time that day. Katsu's muscles tensed. "And it looks as if I'm right." He muttered regrettably.
Krillin was at the edge of the Lookout with the others. "That whole city. This is bad." Krillin said.
Piccolo growled. "He's even worse without Babidi." He said.
"Hmm. I guess it's just in his nature to cause destruction. Probably the only thing he knows how to do." Goku said.
"No, don't go making excuses for him. There's no reason to go around demolishing planets regardless of personality defects." Piccolo argued against Goku's comment.
Goku furrowed his eyebrows. "Don't worry. I'm fairly certain we can keep him from wiping out the entire planet." He said in a tensed tone, before calming a bit. "Buu seemed very eager when I told him stronger fighters than me would be facing off against him in two days. So, that buys us some time. But, I can't help but feel bad for all the innocent people down there who stand in his way."
Krillin looked up from looking over the edge of the Lookout. "But we can bring everything back to normal with the dragon balls, right?" he said hopefully, trying to lighten the mood.
"Perhaps, Krillin. But, that do us any good if the kids aren't prepared to fuse and defeat Majin Buu in these next two days. That's should be our priority." Piccolo said, getting Goten's and Natsuki's attention.
"You and the kids are going to have to learn fast, Piccolo. My time here on Earth is running out. I have less than an hour." Goku informed.
"Less than an hour?" Krillin panicked.
Piccolo turned away from the edge of the Lookout as Krillin had done in shock. "No, you must have more time than that! It hasn't been a full day yet" Piccolo disagreed.
"Why do you have to leave so soon, Dad? Please don't. I like you." Goten spoke up.
Goku smiled at Goten. "I like you too, Goten, but it seems Super Saiyan 3 is a level that can only be handled in otherworld. The living world has more rules than otherworld and transforming takes too much energy." Goten seemed to not completely understand what Goku was explaining. "So, I got very, very tired."
"Oh no, that's why you seem so exhausted, huh?" Krillin questioned.
"A little fatigue and energy loss is nothing Dende can't take care of." Piccolo said tensely.
"No, I-uh-can't. For this I have to return to otherworld." Goku elaborated.
Suddenly a new voice appeared canting "tick tock" a couple times. A old witch with pink hair and floating on top of a crystal ball came to float in front of Goku. "Greetings Goku. At the tone, your time remaining on this Earth will be 30 minutes." She said.
Goku began scratching the back of his neck with a look of slight panic on his face. "Baba, what are you-30 minutes?" Goku screamed. "Is that all the time I've got left?"
Baba began floating away as fast as she had come. "At the tone, Goku." She repeated sternly. "Beep."
Goku clenched his teeth. "Trunks and Vitani had better hurry up!" he said. "There's no time."
With nothing else really causing attention, many of the others went their separate ways. Goten and Krillin began sparing while the others went closer to the entrance of the building on the Lookout. Katsu, not too interested to be interrogated about his and Arata's relationship by her mother or Bulma, stayed closer to the edge of the Lookout with Goku and Piccolo in case of any other issue that may come up with Majin Buu having free reign on his actions.
Natsuki was still standing, more like clinging, onto Katsu's pant leg. The whole conversation that had transpired since Goku reappeared on the Lookout wasn't ignored by her ears. And to say the least, the conversation didn't exactly improve her confidence.
It didn't take long for Katsu to take note of Natsuki's unusual attitude. He looked down towards her. Natsuki's grip on him was tight with the look in her eyes that she was afraid to let go. Katsu's eyebrows furrowed at Natsuki. There was only one time he had seen her the way she was acting and that was when Daisuke had been killed.
Katsu gently laid a hand on her head. "You alright there, kiddo?" he questioned.
Upon hearing Katsu's question, Goku looked over at his granddaughter. As he did so, he could see the look of fear that was sitting her Natsuki's eyes. Goku walked over and knelt to her level with a small smile on his face. "Hey." He said softly.
"Hi." Natsuki murmured.
"What's going on?" Goku moved to make conversation.
Natsuki looked down at herself and didn't answer right away. "I don't think I can do this." She murmured.
"Do what?" Goku questioned.
"I think she's talking about the fusion." Katsu elaborated for her, concerned for the young girl.
Goku smiled brightly. "Of course you can. Once you get the steps through with Vitani, it'll be easy." He encouraged.
Natsuki shook her head quickly. "Not against that Buu monster." She disagreed. Realization dawned on Goku's face.
"It's alright to be scared." Goku tried to sooth. "I have faith in you kids. You just need to believe in yourself."
Again, Natsuki disagreed with her grandfather. She looked at Goku with wide, serious eyes. "You said you couldn't have defeated that Buu monster even at the power you faced him with. If you can't defeat him, how can a couple of kids that haven't reached that level manage to defeat him?" Natsuki questioned, tears forming in her eyes. "Much less me."
"You have the power. I know you do. Just as Vitani has it somewhere inside her. The power just hasn't come out yet, but it will." Goku tired again.
Natsuki glared at Goku with tears still in her eyes. "And how do you know that when you won't even be here?" she demanded, her voice raising a bit. The others around the Lookout heard the commotion and looked over in curiosity. Krillin and Goten, who had been sparing, stopped as well, wanting to know what was going on. "You're leaving me just like everyone else has!"
"It's not forever. Once Majin Buu is defeated, you all can use the dragon balls to bring back your mother and uncle. You have to be strong right now." Goku said.
Katsu growled a bit. "Goku, she's 4." He spoke up, causing the older Saiyan to look at Katsu. Katsu leaned down and picked up Natsuki, trying his best to calm her down. "Just telling her that she has to be strong isn't going to do anything. She's a scared little girl who just lost her mother. How do you think she's going to react when she was faced with the reality of the situation?"
Piccolo had turned his attention away from Majin Buu as well. "You are comparing Natsuki with the future version of her that had helped during the androids and Cell, Goku." He spoke.
"He has a point, Goku." Krillin said softly. "I mean, if I remember correctly, even Mirai Natsuki had a hard time adjusting when she first arrived on Earth herself. It was no easy feat for her and it took that version of Gohan a while to make her comfortable. Mirai Natsuki had even stopped fighting for a while there."
Goku sighed as he stood up to his full height and looked at his upset granddaughter. Natsuki wasn't crying, but she wasn't exactly in the best emotional state. As he looked at Natsuki, Katsu remembered what Arata would normally do. He unwrapped his tail from around his waist, with was a rare thing for him to do, and wrapped it around Natsuki's.
"Think of it this way, Goku." Katsu said evenly. "This is Natsuki's first real battle. More importantly. This is the first time that she's in danger and there's no promise of her mother being able to save her."
"What about with Frig? Didn't she help in that?" Bulma questioned.
Katsu shook her head. "No. Not unless you count her leading Vegeta and Gohan to the battle sight, which they could and would have found on their own." He said. "When Arata and I were in the first stages of planning the rebellion, Frig's right hand man that had replaced Serape overheard us. Apparently, he had been dragged into this just like Arata and I had been, so he was willing to help us. We had it planned that Yankule, Frig's right hand man, would stay and watch after Natsuki until it was time. Whether it be for her to flee or until we had managed to defeat Frig. However, before the actual rebellion had begun, one of Frig's minions had dragged out Yankule's dead body." Katsu briefly looked at Natsuki. "Basically, Natsuki just watched the fight. Arata and I not only had the fight to deal with, but we had to watch out for her at the same time."
"Natsuki, in any other situation, I'd give you the option of sitting out. But, Vitani needs a partner for the fusion and we need all you kids. It's out last hope." Goku tried to reason with her.
Natsuki, who had calmed a bit from Katsu's tail wrapping around hers, kept her gaze away from Goku, feeling ashamed. "I-I'm just scared." She murmured.
Goku smiled a bit. "I know that and it's okay to be scared. But, isn't it better to do this and at least say you tried instead of standing back knowing you could have possibly done something?" he questioned. "When I first went up against Frieza, I had no idea if I was going to win that battle or not.
Natsuki looked up at her grandfather in shock. "Really?" she question.
Goku laughed a bit. "Really." He said. "All truth. Even the strong guys like me and Vegeta, even if he doesn't want to admit it, get scared. It's natural."
A thoughtful look came across Natsuki's face. "But, I don't understand. If you didn't know if you could defeat Frieza, why'd you fight him?"
"All I knew, was that I couldn't stand by and let Frieza do what he was going to do. Everything that he had done was wrong and evil in every sense, including his participation in what happened with your mother. In some ways, I guess that contributed to my anger, which fueled my transformation into a Super Saiyan that first time." Goku explained thoughtfully. "Not to mention, I had Gohan to protect. Couldn't let anything happen to him when I had already let something happen to Arata." Goku let out a full-hearted laugh. "ChiChi wouldn't have liked that one."
"Don't you dare joke about that one, Mister!" ChiChi yelled while she threatened to come over there and smack him silly.
Goku laughed nervously as he put his hands outstretched towards ChiChi. "Sorry, sorry!" he chanted, earning a light laugh from Natsuki. Goku stopped laughing and turned back towards Natsuki with a soft gaze. "Every fighter has experienced a battle, or more, where they didn't believe they'd win. Where they weren't sure what the outcome would be. Gohan was very much like you before he battled Cell. He didn't believe he'd have a chance again him. But look how that turned out. And even your mother and Katsu. They entered that rebellion with Frig, not knowing the outcome, but they did anyway. If I've learned anything, it's that you don't give up. Even in the darkest of situations."
Natsuki's words had lifted up her confidence a bit. It had reminded her when her mother said that she wouldn't always be able to rely on someone else to save her. However, one thing still laid in her mind. "That Buu monster is different though. Not like Cell or Frieza or Frig. Each of them had a weakness and they could be killed." Natsuki wasn't emotional as she spoke, she was thoughtful and analytical like her future counterpart. "I watched your fight with that Buu monster through and through. He-He can't be killed. It's impossible."
"Nothing's impossible. You just have to figure out a way. Majin Buu, much like any enemy, is different from one another. With Frieza, Cell, and Frig, their weaknesses were obvious. This one takes just a bit more effort to figure out." Goku said and then smiled at her. "That's why I want you and Vitani fighting alongside the boys. Sure, you may not have their level of power yet, but you girls have something the boys don't. The both of you look at situations differently than the rest of us do. Granted, you and Vitani have different views. But, put the two of you together with the boys, and you may just win this thing."
Katsu scoffed at Goku when he mentioned Vitani. "Vitani is as much of a pain as her father is. Has the same pride too." He slightly disagreed. "You better hope the right traits of the two of them come through."
Goku laughed a bit. "Well, we'll see, won't we?" he chuckled. Goku looked at Natsuki again, amusement being replaced with a welcoming smile. "Just keep in mind what you're fighting for. That's what I do."
Goten came closer and gave a bright smile towards Natsuki. "Nat, you want to spar?" he offered.
"Sure." Natsuki agreed. As she moved to join Goten in sparing, Natsuki wasn't sure if she should have hugged or thanked Katsu for comforting her or both. It had been a while since she had been held that way by someone other than her mother.
Katsu quickly wrapped his tail back around his tail, mainly out of habit, while Natsuki and Goten engaged in their own spar. Goku smiled as he watched Katsu look after Natsuki. "You're good with her." He complimented.
"I'm only doing what Arata would." Katsu replied, feeling a bit awkward about the subject after the embarrassing situation that Bulma and ChiChi brought out a while ago.
Despite Katsu's attempt, Goku saw through his words. "You obviously care deeply for her." He stated as more of a statement than a question.
Katsu shrugged and crossed his arms as Goten and Natsuki really got into their sparing session. "The kid hasn't had the easiest of beginnings. I just don't want her to suffer any more than she has already." He stated.
"That's understandable." Goku said with a slight smile. "She's lucky to have you. Arata as well. I'm sure when Majin Buu is over and done with, they'll both be thankful."
Piccolo stepped forward before addressing Goku. "Goku, I've been meaning to ask you a question." He said.
"Go ahead." Goku looked at Piccolo, a serious tone coming to his voice.
"When you went Super Saiyan 3, would it have been possible, could you have actually defeated Majin Buu once and for all if you really tried?" Piccolo asked, facing Goku a bit.
Goku faced away from Piccolo as he thought about his question. "Well, I don't know. I mean, you have to agree that Majin Buu is no ordinary opponent." He answered with a light laugh before continuing. "It might have been impossible for me to win."
Piccolo looked at Goku with confusion in his eyes. "Might? Why didn't you at least, try to give him everything that you had? Were you afraid of what would happen if your body was destroyed here on Earth?" he questioned between pauses in his speech due to the confusion of Goku's words.
"No." Goku paused for a second. "By all accounts, I shouldn't even be here in this world. It's not my place to do that. This is their world, Piccolo. Even if I did somehow defeat Majin Buu, he wouldn't be the last villain to terrorize the Earth. And then who would be prepared to save them? Call me crazy, but after watching those kids fight each other at the junior division, I decided to take a chance." Goku finished by looking back at Piccolo.
"So, you're going to wager the world's future on the shoulders of little children?" Piccolo asked incredibly.
"I think it's a pretty safe bet. Don't you?" Goku asked simply.
Piccolo's eyes widened briefly before he gave a smile. "You've always been a hopeless dreamer, Goku."
Katsu looked at Goku thoughtfully. "You're preparing the kids to take over as the Earth's protectors." He said as more of a statement than a question as he returned his attention to the spar.
Goku nodded. "It's the best way. I mean, once Majin Buu is taken care of, Arata, Gohan, and Vegeta can be wished back. With the kids trained the way I'm planning, any future threat should have quite the trouble." He said confidently.
Katsu's eyes, which had been trained on the sparing session between the two kids, shifted to Goku in a serious manner. "That may be true. But, looking ahead while we still have Majin Buu to deal with in the first place isn't exactly a perfect ideology. We don't even know for sure if the fusion will work." Katsu stated. "I'm not against it per say. I do agree they need to know how to defend the planet, and hands on experience is usually the best way to snap their minds into that idea frame. But, I'm warning you if anything bad happens to that kid, you're dead meat. And not just my hand."
It took a minute for Goku to think about who Katsu was talking about. "You mean Arata." He stated as a statement.
"I may not be able to feel her in any sense, but I trust my instincts. There is no possible proof on my end that Arata is dead. Watching my father go completely insane after my mother died is enough for me to know what truly happens when you lose a mate." Katsu informed. "We may not be able to rely on my bond with Arata, but there could still be a slim possibility. The same with Gohan. And if Arata finds out anything happened to her, any inhibition she has, bond with Gohan and I or not, will be gone."
Goku nodded slowly. "I, don't doubt that." He said slowly. "And as you said, we can only focus on the reliable. Maybe losing a mate, as you said, is different for each Saiyan. I'm not saying that I want Arata to be dead, it's just very unlikely for her to be alive. Especially after I fought Majin Buu."
Katsu grimaced at Goku's statement. "I get it, I do." He said. "But those who don't know the bond, just don't understand it. Arata isn't dead as you all like to think. And I know it." With that, Katsu walked away from Goku and Piccolo, not exactly happy with the elder Saiyan. He stopped when he was right in front of the spar. "Pull your arms in, Goten. You have an opening for her to hit you down." Goten nodded at the help, flashing a very brief smile at Katsu. "Use your height to your advantage, Natsuki. It's one of your best assets right now."
"Hey! Heads up, guys! Trunks and Vitani just flew in!" Krillin announced, stopping any and all activities that were going on while they quickly made their way over to Trunks and Vitani.
Bulma was the first to get towards her children with a wide and relieved smile on her face. "It's good to see my little Trunks and my little warrior. You two must be tired." She said.
"Mom, I'm fine!" Trunks said, trying to sooth any of this mother's worries. Vitani grumbled and glared at the back of her brother's head. When they had landed, she hadn't made the most graceful of ones, no thanks to her brother practically dragging her here the whole way.
"Of course you are, dear. You're so grown up!" Bulma said.
Once Goku was close enough, Trunks put the dragon radar forward. "Here it is, sir. Confirm, is this your dragon radar." Trunks said in a monotone like voice.
"Confirmed." Goku said, smiling widely. "Good job, soldier. Mission accomplished."
"Thank-you, sir!" Trunks said, proudly. Vitani looked at her brother dryly as she came up beside him and slapped the back of his head. "What was that for?"
Vitani glared as she held up a single finger. "One, for dragging me the way back." She informed as she added another finger to the first. "And two, for being an idiot."
"Oh, stop it you two." Bulma instructed as she took the dragon radar from Goku and held it up to eye level. "Great. Now thanks to Trunks and Vitani we can gather the dragon balls and wish everything back to normal." Bulma ended with hugging the dragon radar to her chest.
Trunks looked up with excited eyes. "When do we get to train for the fusion? You guys didn't start without us, did you?" he questioned.
Goku smiled. "Of course we didn't. It takes two to fuse." He said.
Goten got excited as well, this time with an idea. "Oh, oh. Wouldn't it be cool if I could fusion with myself and then become two of me? Huh, dad?" he proposed.
Natsuki blinked a bit. "I don't think it works that way." She murmured, slightly confused on how that would even be possible in the first place based off of what Goku had told them already about the fusion.
Goku simply laughed a bit with Trunks and Goten at Goten's proposal. Natsuki blinked, still confused about Goten's proposal as well as the laughter in response. She looked up at Katsu, who merely shrugged in response. Vitani raised an eyebrow at them. "What in the world is just so damn funny about this?" she yelled. "Those two idiots, I get, but not you, Kakarot. You said we need to train. Then why are we doing that? All you seem to be doing is standing around and laughing."
"Alright, alright." Goku said before they moved upstairs. Everyone except for the chibis, Goku, and Piccolo moved to the side. Katsu stayed close, mainly in case any help or assistance was needed. "Okay kids, we need to start our training right away."
"Yes sir!" Goten and Trunks said together.
"Now, I don't have much time left, so we're going to have to work hard and fast. The fate of the world depends on your cooperation." Everyone knew Goku was directing that last comment more towards Vitani and Natsuki then the boys, but stressed it to them all the same. Goku looked at Vitani and Natsuki respectively. "You girls stand back and watch while I work with the boys. Got it?"
"Sir, yes, sir!" Goten and Trunks repeated together while Natsuki nodded, standing beside Katsu as she had been doing lately. Vitani huffed and crossed her arms as Bulma gently pulled her daughter backwards.
Goku looked at the boys with shock. "Wow! What got into them?" he exclaimed in a lower tone than he used before in reference to the boys.
"Well, maybe you can teach these kids some new tricks after all, Goku." Piccolo answered with a smile on his face as Goten and Trunks stood to attention.
Goku turned back to the boys with a confident smirk on his face. "First, you have to realign your energies with one another." He instructed.
"Yes sir!" Goten and Trunks repeated in sync.
While both boys prepared and began to power up as they had done before, Vitani grew more annoyed as time passed where she wasn't training. "At this rate, we aren't going to get anything done." She huffed.
Bulma rolled her eyes at her daughter, Vegeta's attitude coming into mind, as she placed a hand on Vitani's shoulder. "Be patient and let your brother concentrate." She said soothingly. "You're time will come and then it will be Trunks and Goten standing in your position." Vitani huffed again. "Besides, you don't see Natsuki complaining."
Goten and Trunks turned Super Saiyan with a yell and continued yelling as they powered up to match each other's levels like they had before. And because the boys had done this before, it didn't take as long for Goten and Trunks to match their levels with one another. It also meant less instruction from Goku as well.
Electricity was forming here and there as they powered up, leaving onlookers to be amazed at the power the boys were displaying. "It's amazing how great their powers are, especially at such a young age. Wow!" Roshi voiced his thoughts.
"Trunks, Mommy's proud of you!" Bulma yelled out encouragement. Upon her mother's words, Vitani simply rolled her eyes and crossed her arms over her chest.
When Goten and Trunks had matched each other's' levels, both boys returned to their base state. "Great." Goku approved, a smile on his face and hands in fists resting on his hips. "Your energies are perfectly matched. Just keep practicing or you'll slip out of sync with each other."
Piccolo's face suddenly showed that of concern. "Hey, you don't look so good, Goku. Even for you." He voiced his worries.
Goku smiled reassuringly at Piccolo. "Thanks, but I'll be alright. Just a little tired. Yeah, it's nothing really." He said, but you could hear the affect the Super Saiyan 3 transformation had on him from the slow talking and breaths in the middle of a sentence. Goku returned his attention to the boys, who were back to standing at attention. "Now, are you ready to attempt the most difficult part of fusion? It'll require a lot of patience and real disapline."
"Well, yeah." Trunks said.
"Yeah." Goten agreed.
"Once you've matched your energies precisely, you must strike a series of delicate poses together. If either one of you is just the slightest bit off, the fusion will fail. Now, I'm about to teach you the exact moves. So pay close attention. Okay?" Goku informed with a serious look on his face.
"Yes!" Trunks said immediately.
"Yes!" Goten repeated with equal seriousness and excitement as Trunks.
"To get it started, the two of you will stand right next to each other." Goku started. He outstretched his right arm away from his body and his left arm crossed over his chest. "Then go like this and make sure your arms are straight. Then you say 'Fu'. "You'll approach each other with outstretched arms, moving exactly three steps over." Goku had moved three paces over with his legs bent and his arms making a half circle over his head to where the right and left arms switched roles. "And once you got that, you'll say '-sion'." Goku's arms were back in original position with right arm outstretched and left arm over the chest. His left leg was straight again while his right leg was crossed over his left leg and bent while in the air. "Quarter turn and watch the angle of your knee." Goku's left leg then bent to a 90 degree angle while the right leg outstretched, staying straight. His arms, one over his head and the other below, both had one finger pointing away from Goku while the other fingers curled into his palms. "'Ha!' Now watch. Point your fingers parallel and don't forget the angle of your leg. It's very important."
While Goku stayed in the final position, everyone was watching Goku with wide and shocked looks where they couldn't believe what they just say. "This is might be a bit tough." Trunks said in a strained tone while also trying to look polite.
Goten, who had a blank look on his face at the moves his father demonstrated, nodded. "Uh-huh." He agreed.
Vitani suddenly burst into laughter. Trunks looked pointedly at his sister. "I don't know what you're laughing about, Vitani. You'll be doing this too!" Trunks addressed his hysterical sister.
The siblings connected eyes, annoyed met amused. Vitani smirked. "Dancing is a girly thing, right?" she questioned. "Even if it is degrading, it'll be worth it to watch the two of you dance like a little toddler."
Trunks glared at his sister, who kept the wide smirk on her face. "Why I ought a." He growled at her.
While Vitani was laughing, Natsuki had tilted her head at the moves her grandfather displayed. "I have to do that?" she questioned as she looked up to Katsu. "I don't ever remember a technique like that." Katsu had his eyes closed with his pointer finger and his thumb holding the bridge of his nose. "Have you, Katsu?"
"No." Katsu answered, finally opening his eyes. "But I've come to learnt to just let things happen on this world. Your mother's family and their friends have techniques that I've never heard of in my life. This is another one of them." He sighed. "Let's just hope this is as powerful as he claims it is."
"Okay guys. I hope you were paying close attention. You're going to have to do the same exact moves in complete symmetry. Okay? Let's give it a try." Goku said. He was standing upright again with his hands in fists on his hips again. Both boys looked at Goku with wide eyes. "What's wrong?"
"I-uh-don't think Goten knows what symmetry means. Sir." Trunks stated.
Vitani huffed. "Surprise, surprise." She muttered to herself.
"Huh? Oh right." Goku gasped for a second before smiling. "Well, it's…how should I put it? Hmm." Goku raised his hand and put it on his chin as he began thinking. "It's like-well, no. Mirrors and-hmm." Goku raised his head and put his hand back on his hip as an idea suddenly came to mind. "Oh, I've got it. Piccolo and I can show you how its done."
While Goku was smiling at the idea he came up with, Piccolo looked at Goku with wide eyes. "Are you sure?" he questioned, inwardly hoping that this was just another one of Goku's jokes. Goku smiled at Piccolo encouragingly, turning Piccolo's hopes into mere dreams.
"Now watch us very carefully. We only have time to demonstrate this once." Goku instructed as Piccolo came up beside him. Goku was in the beginning stance of the fusion technique and Piccolo reluctantly joined him.
Natsuki's eyes widened. "He's really doing it." She murmured.
"Good thing he didn't ask me to join him." Katsu stated, thanking his lucky stars.
Vitani smirked. "This ought to be good." She said.
"Just follow me Piccolo and do what I do. But in reverse, like a mirror opposite." Goku stressed before they began. "Fu-sion-Ha!" Goku chanted the words he had said earlier while both Goku and Piccolo demonstrated the moves again. By the end, Piccolo was embarrassed by the moves of the fusion technique while Goku remained oblivious to the embarrassing factor of the fusion technique.
Vitani couldn't help the laughter that came from her. "Just wait until father hears about this. He'll get a kick out of it." She said, mentioning when they'd wish him and the others back with the dragon balls.
"That, is symmetry." Goku said while him and Piccolo held their positions.
The others watching, now having the full picture of what the fusion technique looked like with two people, were looking on with confusion. Wondering just how good this technique was supposed to be, if it was meant to be in the first place. "What the heck was that?" Krillin exclaimed. "Is this fusion or a junior high prom?"
"I don't know how I feel about that being our last hope to save the world." Bulma stated with wide, shocked eyes and her arms crossed over her chest.
Goku and Piccolo stood up straight once again. Piccolo wiped his forehead as he did so, while Goku faced the boys. "Now, are you two ready to give it a try?" Goku asked.
"Yeah!" Goten and Trunks said immediately as they ran forward to get into position.
"Hey Dad, look at this!" Goten called Goku's attention back to the boys, interrupting Piccolo talking to Goku.
"Right?" Trunks asked. Both boys were standing in the original position of the fusion, ready to start as soon as Goku stated they were good to go.
"That's it." Goku said before he noticed Goten's arm. "But Goten, your left arm is a little bit low. It should be even with Trunks'." Goten looked over at Trunks to see what his father was talking about as he adjusted his own arms. Goku clapped his hands once. "Good. Now take three steps." The boys took the three steps as Goku chanted the words for them, so they could practice the footing only. Just as Goku said the '-sion' part of the chant, Goten stole a glance at Trunks and noticed his leg position was off and fixed it quickly. Goten and Trunks did the last part of the fusion, saying 'ha' on their own before they tried to touch fingers, however ran into problems in doing so. Goku raised a hand and placed it on his forehead as he looked at the boys. "Oh brother."
Goku clapped his hands together a couple times to grab the boys' attention. Goten and Trunks stopped what they were doing and looked at Goku. "Alright. Let's take it from the top. Remember, symmetry." Goku instructed.
"They're off to a wonderful start." Vitani stated sarcastically as she sat on the ground, resting her head in her hand as he elbow rested on her knee.
Goku had the boys try again and again. After a couple tries, Goku nodded, pleased. "Now that was much better than before." He praised. "Just keep doing it like that."
Bulma was watching the boys practice while biting her nail. "I wish they'd hurry. If Goten weren't holding my Trunks back, they'd be ready to fight Majin Buu right now and keep all those people from getting killed." She stated.
Katsu grimaced with a mixture of anger and annoyance. "Coming from the lady that sits in a lab all day." He stated.
Bulma looked over at Katsu. "Excuse me?" she demanded.
Katsu faced Bulma. "You heard me." He stated. The others around them were watching Katsu with wide eyes at him standing up to Bulma. Anyone the critiqued her, usually got yelled at in return. "I'd like you to try and do those moves with someone else and see how good you are in less than 5 minutes. There's no way you can perfect those moves in a short amount of time and be ready to fight." Katsu gave a humorless chuckle. "Besides, even if they managed to perfect it in a short amount of time, what are they going to do? Dance Majin Buu to death?"
Bulma walked over to Katsu. "Don't mock me, mister." She demanded.
Katsu smirked at her. "Your mate doesn't scare me and neither do you. Once those moves are perfected by the boys, they have to perform the actual fusion and then perfect that until they don't have troubles. And then, if that even works, they have to know how to use the fusion. Then finally after that, it would be the girls turn. Your dragon balls can fix what Majin Buu destroys. We need that time to get the kids ready." He explained in a sarcastic like tone. "Just because your son is out there doesn't give any right for you to tell any of us what to do. What are you going to do when it's Vitani's and Natsuki's turn? Going to yell at Natsuki if she's holding Vitani back? Or vice versa?" Bulma sighed, knowing Katsu had a bit of a point, even if she was annoyed a bit irritated at how Katsu worded it.
Once the boys had gotten the moves down to some level, Goku then focused on getting Goten and Trunks used to following the rhythm that they should be following while doing the moves. The spent the next small slot of time working on that factor. Goku clapped out the rhythm while saying "1,2" as he did so, repeatedly as the boys did the moves to Goku's clapping. As the time had passed, most of the onlookers had left the room, going back downstairs to leave the kids to their training, including Katsu, who was getting a bit bored with hearing the changing og "1,2" over and over again.
"Start over again from the top guys, and remember this time to stay in rhythm." Goku instructed. The boys resumed the original stance before Goku began clapping again. When they were halfway through the fusion, Trunks stopped, looking distracted. "Huh? What's the matter, Trunks?"
"I'm sorry. But, this fusion technique is lame." Trunks voiced his thoughts with a dry look directed at Goku.
Goku dropped his hands. "What? You think its lame?" he asked rhetorically. Goku placed his hand on his forehead again, briefly this time. "Kids today." He dropped his hand from his forehead, smiling at Trunks reassuringly. "Ah, fusion is anything but lame. The Metamoran people that taught this to me are some of the strongest warriors in the universe." Goten dropped his arms as he listened to his father. "Thanks to fusion." Goku finished looking confident.
Trunks gave a bit of a nod. "Okay." He said, somewhat reluctantly before suddenly turning excited about a sudden thought. "But first, can you show me how you change into Super Saiyan 3? Those people may be powerful, but they're no Super Saiyan 3!"
Goten smiled at the thought as well and turned to Goku expectantly. "Hey, can you show my how to do it too, Dad?" he asked.
Vitani, who had been sitting on the floor, bored out her mind, looked mildly interested as well. "I'd like to see it for myself." She stated. "So I know it wasn't just a trick."
Natsuki looked at Vitani. "It isn't. I saw it." She informed.
"When?" Vitani questioned, not believing her.
"When he was fighting Majin Buu and I closed my eyes. I watched the whole thing." Natsuki said, unknowingly gloating to Vitani.
Vitani was silent for a moment and then scoffed at the youngest Saiyan. "As if I'd believe you." She said annoyed.
Natsuki shrugged. "Suit yourself." She murmured.
Goku looked at the boys with wide eyes and a bit speechless. "Instead of wasting our time with this boring old fusion thing, wouldn't Goten and I be a lot better off if we became Super Saiyan 3?" Trunks continued.
"Yeah! I'm sure we could beat Majin Buu then." Goten agreed.
"That couldn't be possible." Natsuki stated in a small voice, causing the boys to look over at her. "I mean, remember when you powered to your maximums? It wasn't nearly enough to reach that level. And Super Saiyan 3 is a lot of power. More than you two have."
Trunks rolled his eyes. "What do you know?" he stated. "You're just a little girl. Like my sister."
Natsuki and Vitani both weren't happy with Trunks comment, but Goku spoke up before either of the girls could yell at Trunks. He turned before saying anything. "You can't." Goku spoke up, stopping the idea from blooming any further in Goten and Trunks' minds. "The only way you boys could beat Majin Buu is by fusing together! Just trust me on this one."
Goten and Trunks exchanged glances. "Maybe your dad is right." Trunks muttered.
Goku clapped his hands together once again. "Great. Let's take it from the top." He said before noticing the sad looks on their faces. "They look so sad. Fine, I'll show you the Super Saiyan 3 just one time."
"Wow!" Trunks exclaimed as their faces lit up with excitement once again.
"Go Dad!" Goten encouraged.
"Now so fast. You have to promise me that you'll really learn to fuse afterwards." Goku said.
Both boys nodded. "Promise." Goten agreed from the both of them.
Piccolo, however, wasn't as excited about this as Goten and Trunks were. "Be smart, Goku. You'll lose what little time you have left on Earth." He warned.
"I'm already out of time, Piccolo." Goku stated, not worried at all. He returned to the matter at hand that he had promised. "Trunks, Goten; watch closely." Goten and Trunks nodded before Goku got into a stance and powered up. "First, turn Super Saiyan." Trunks and Goten were watching with intense gazes. Vitani stood from her sitting position in apprehension of what was promised to come. Natsuki, meanwhile, had already seen it thanks to Babidi, so she simply backed up a bit like Piccolo had done. Goku raised his power level higher, creating electricity around his body. "Then you go one step beyond that to a Super Saiyan 2, an ascended Saiyan. Then," The wind was blowing a bit before picking up intensely as Goku raised his power level to increase it to Super Saiyan 3, blowing the kids away. "This next energy has to come from deep inside. Push hard to find it." Their eyes ended up closed as Goku finished powering up. When the light cleared, their eyes were able to open, resulting in shocked gazes from everyone except Natsuki, who marveled in what it looked like up close. "Tap into that and you become a Super Saiyan 3."
The kids came forward, the boys with wide and amazed gazes. "That's awesome." Trunks stated.
"Cool Dad!" Goten stated happily.
Vitani stared at Goku in Super Saiyan 3 form with wide eyes. "I-I never even knew that was possible." She murmured. Vitani, although annoyed at the level of power like Vegeta would be, grew angry at her father's rival. "With that kind of power, if used correctly, would be able to wipe Majin Buu off the face of the Earth."
Natsuki heard Vitani's angered statement that was supposed to be said under Vitani's breath, but didn't reply to it. Needless to say, Natsuki wasn't exactly ecstatic about being the only hope to save the Earth against Majin Buu. That was a lot of pressure for a girl her age, wasn't it?
Suddenly, Goku went from standing tall to nearly collapsing to the ground. "What's wrong?" Trunks questioned in worry.
"Daddy?" Goten called worried as well.
Vitani narrowed her eyes as she assessed the situation while Natsuki looked as worried as the others. He wasn't able to die, at least, not like this…right? Piccolo was just as worried, walking up closer to the scene to get a better perspective.
"Goku." Piccolo started, only to be interrupted by Goku holding hand out to stop him from coming any further.
Goku breathed deeply a few times as he returned to his base state. "Don't worry about me, I'm alright." He said. Goku stood up straight once again and smiled at the boys. "Let's get back to work. You two promised me. Remember?"
Goten and Trunks nodded. Before they could resume their practicing once again, they were interrupted by Baba. "Goku." She said, causing Goku to turn his head to face her. "Your times up, Goku."
"Now?" Goku asked. It was obvious that he didn't quite want to leave just yet.
Baba sat on top of her crystal ball with her fingers interlocked with one another and resting on her crossed legs. "That little stunt you just pulled drained the last grains of sand through your hourglass." She explained.
Goku looked at the ground briefly before looking back up. "Alright." He said regretfully and smiled towards Piccolo. "Piccolo, just pick up where I left off, okay? I know these two boys aren't too graceful, but they learn fast and I believe in them."
"But, Goku-" Piccolo looked at Goku with wide eyes.
"I'm putting all my trust in you for this one, Piccolo. You've earned it." Goku said in a serious tone with a facial expression to match.
Piccolo nodded. "Thank-you." He said.
"What about us?" Vitani yelled, causing Goku's attention to shift from Piccolo to a very angry child of Vegeta.
Natsuki looked at her grandfather with slightly upset eyes. "You said you'd work with us, grandpa. Does that mean we won't be fighting like you said?" she questioned.
Goku's eyes flashed with realization. "Don't worry, you two will still be fighting. Once Piccolo is done with the boys, he'll work with you two." He said with a smile as he faced all of the kids in general.
Vitani looked about ready to argue, but Natsuki quickly grabbed Vitani arm. "There's no use arguing." She said before smiling. "I got an idea."
"I know you kids will show Piccolo the same respect and dedication you've shown me. He's the one in charge now." Goku informed.
"Yes." Goten and Trunks said, once again standing at attention.
They all followed Goku and Baba back to where the others had gathered. Everyone there had gathered around Goku in a circle. All except ChiChi, who had gone inside for something earlier. While the kids and Piccolo followed Goku and Baba, Vitani pulled Natsuki away roughly.
"What's this idea you got?" Vitani demanded, looking at the younger girl with a harsh glare. "At the rate my idiot brother and his friend are going, all the time is going to be spent on them."
Natsuki, despite the harsh glare being given to her, smiled warmly at her. "It's simple. We will do our own thing." She said.
Vitani narrowed her eyes at Natsuki. "What the heck is that supposed to mean?" she questioned, getting more annoyed by the second.
"I mean, why should we have to wait while they get all the attention for the fusion technique and we have to stand by and watch? Why should we sit around in the first place?" Natsuki asked rhetorically.
"I'm following you." Vitani said slowly.
Natsuki raised two fingers with a serious look on her face. "We two day for the four of us to learn this fusion technique and only Piccolo teaching. And Piccolo is teaching one group at a time just because Goten and Trunks are Super Saiyans. It's completely unfair and unrealistic. As you said, at the rate this is going, Piccolo won't have time to help us." She said, putting her fingers down and a smile coming onto her face. "So, we do our own thing. While Trunks and Goten are having trouble figuring out the moves and the rhythm, we can train on our own."
"Without someone to watch us?" Vitani questioned. She didn't really like being told what to do, but even she was smart enough that they needed someone there to at least watch their movements at they practice. "And what makes you think that we're better than my idiot brother and his friend?"
Natsuki smirked. "Because, just as grandpa said, we have one thing that the boys don't and that is that we look at situations differently. We've been sitting and watching Goten and Trunks practice over and over again, performing the moves in front of our very eyes. We already know the moves, we just have to get the rhythm down. That's easy enough." She explained, getting a nod out of Vitani. Goten and Trunks have a tendency to play a lot from what I gathered before the tournament while you and I have been in situations, intentional or not, where we've been focused on training. It's second nature to us. Meaning-"
"Meaning we're more dedicated then they are." Vitani finished.
Natsuki nodded. "Exactly. And besides, we don't have to worry about the moves being embarrassing. Dancing is considered girly here on Earth, meaning we won't have that inhibiting us. Remember, that's what Trunks said to Goku-that it was lame." She said.
"Well, what do you know? You're idea just may work." Vitani said, obviously impressed. She then looked at the younger Saiyan with a thoughtful expression. "Why this sudden change in perspective? You were looking pretty content at watching the two idiots practicing."
"I was getting bored. They kept messing up in the same places right after they had done the technique correctly." Natsuki stated before shrugging. "Besides, I had that technique memorized a while ago. I tend to pick up techniques quickly. I mean, it didn't take Katsu long at all to teach me how to work my father's technique before tournament. Not long at all and I started out learning it just like this." A scowl slowly formed on Natsuki's lips. "Besides, I think it's about time to prove to everyone that we're not just little girls. We're just as good as the boys, maybe even better. Super Saiyan aside. I'm tired of hearing that. All that seems to be important is Super Saiyan. It's as if we're not good enough because we aren't Super Saiyan."
"Like you're thinking, pipsqueak." Vitani said smiling. "Now, who do we have to watch us while we practice?"
Natsuki's scowl dropped. "Katsu." She said. Natsuki caught the unpleasant look on Vitani's face but spoke before she could argue. "I know you don't exactly like him, but Katsu's actually a really good teacher. He's fast and efficient with his time. Between our dedication, my good memory, and his fast pace like mentality, we'll be able to perform the fusion technique way before the boys."
Vitani grumbled a bit. "Fine." She said finally. "Not like we have much choice anyway." Vitani nodded to herself. "Alright. Once Kakarot is gone, we'll get to work."
Vitani and Natsuki caught up to where the others were gathered just as Roshi was speaking. "Things are the same around here without you, Goku. These guys won't let me have any fun." He said.
Katsu looked down at Natsuki as she just arrived at his side. "Where have you been?" he questioned in a low tone. "I thought you'd be with him."
Natsuki smiled at Katsu. "I was just talking to Vitani." She said.
"Willingly? About what?" Katsu questioned.
"I'll explain after grandpa is gone." Natsuki said, leaving Katsu curious and mildly annoyed.
"We'll miss you." Bulma said.
"Goku, you still think about us when you're in otherworld…don't you buddy?" Krillin asked while he held Marron in his arms.
Goku smiled at his best friend. "Yeah." He said, nodding.
"Goku! No!" ChiChi yelled as she ran into Goku's arms crying.
Katsu held his hand over his ear a bit while he grumbled. "It wouldn't surprise me if I went deaf." He muttered, causing Natsuki to laugh at him.
"But, Goku, Goku. How can you say goodbye? Now that Gohan and Arata have left me too?" ChiChi asked upset.
Goku smiled softly at ChiChi. "ChiChi, you'll be alright. You still have Goten to look after you. And don't forget Natsuki. She needs you now more than ever." He tried to sooth.
ChiChi looked at her feet. "And what if Majin Buu takes them away from me like Gohan and Arata?" she asked.
Goku looked at her with a confident look on his face. "That won't happen. Once they master the fusion, Goten and Natsuki can't possibly lose the fight." He told her.
"What am I, chopped liver?" Vitani grumbled, earning a hit over the head by her mother.
"I'll tell Gohan and Arata just how much you miss them when I see them there." Goku said.
"You won't." Videl informed, believing strongly that she was right. "I know. Gohan is still alive. I'm sure of it."
Goku looked at Videl with slightly shocked eyes. "But how?" he asked.
"I don't know. I just feel him beating in my heart." Videl said, clutching her hands to her chest.
"To be young and in love. To be completely irrational. Boy, I miss those days. Lots." Krillin sighed.
Katsu grimaced. "Got to say, I agree with her. Something about that them being dead doesn't sound right to me. If they were dead, there would have been bodies." He stated. "Besides, I know for a fact Arata isn't dead. I would have gone crazy by now thanks to the bond."
"Your devotion to him is really great." Goku told Videl.
"Thank-you, sir.." Videl said, a light blush tinging her cheeks.
Goku nodded towards Katsu. "The same with you, Katsu. Arata is very lucky to have someone like you on her side. Without you, who knows where she'd be." He said.
"Hey, no more goodbyes. Your times up." Baba said, interrupting anything else that might have been said.
"But-" Goten said, stopping short.
Goku, who had turned to follow Baba, faced Goten. "What is it?" he asked.
Goten twiddled his thumbs as he looked down. ChiChi smiled a bit. "Oh, I know. You want one last hug from your father, don't you Goten?" When ChiChi said that, a light blush came across Goten's cheeks.
"Aw, of course." Goku said with a smile at he took a couple steps towards Goten and picked him up. "Hey, there's nothing to be ashamed of, son. It's okay." Goku held Goten against his chest. Goten curled into his father's chest, hiding the tears in his eyes. "Take care of Mom for me?" Goten, still curled into Goku's chest, nodded his head. Goku placed Goten back on the ground and patted his head. "I'm proud of you son."
Natsuki had looked away from the touching moment. It reminded her too much of her father before he had died. Goku knew he had to go, Baba wasn't quiet on that factor at all. But, he pushed her patience a little further as he knelt in front of Natsuki, placing a hand on her head.
"Did you want a hug, too?" Goku asked gently when Natsuki looked up.
Natsuki wasn't as embarrassed about it as Goten had been and hugged him immediately instead of nodding. Goku smiled at her. "Everything will turn out just fine, I promise. Just keep your eyes fixed on the light coming from the end of the tunnel. Okay?" he said.
"Okay." Natsuki murmured. "Before you go,"
Goku, who had made a move to stand up, stopped from doing so. "Yeah?" he asked.
Natsuki tugged and pulled at the collar of her clothing as she revealed a small necklace that hug around her neck. Goku narrowed his eyebrows a bit, trying to figure out what it was. Natsuki took off the necklace from around her neck by pulling it over her head and she then placed it in Goku's open palm.
"Daddy made it." Natsuki murmured as she clasped her hands together nervously. "He never told her about it and it never came up, so I never told Mamma." She swallowed before continuing. "I believe Mamma is alive too. When you find her, can you give it to her?" Natsuki slowly lifted her head back up to look at Goku. "I-It always gave me good luck. Mamma needs it more than I do."
Goku looked at the small necklace in his hand and looked back up. "Natsuki-"
"I know she's alive! Until I'm proven wrong." Natsuki said determined.
Goku smiled and closed his hand. "Alright." He said.
"Goku, you can't put it off any longer." Baba said, coming up behind Goku.
"Gotcha." Goku nodded at Baba before looking once more at Natsuki. "I'll keep this safe." He told his granddaughter the same promise he had told Mirai Natsuki when she handed him the drawing all those years ago.
Before Goku flew into the air beside Baba, Goku placed one last pat on the head on Goten's head. "So long everybody" he yelled, earning yells of goodbye from everyone. "Good luck fighting Majin Buu! I'll see you all sooner or later!"
"Where you're going, I hope it's a bit later than sooner." Krillin said as everyone continued to yell goodbyes.
