Chapter 27: An Eventful Night
In the middle of the night, above the woods near the Western part of Hyrule, an owl was flying towards a specific destination.
It was none other than Keapora Geabora who was on his way to Romani Ranch nearby. The Minish wizard Ezlo was hanging onto his back.
The two of them had spent the last week contacting various people all over Hyrule in the hope of gathering more allies for the resistance. But now the resistance was going to have a meeting in Romani Ranch of all places, and Ezlo and Keapora Geabora were not intending to miss it.
"Hey Keapora, do you have any idea what this meeting is all about?" the Minish asked.
The owl answered "No, I can't say I do. But I doubt it will be much different than the last one."
"Well I wasn't there at the last meeting, and Festari didn't tell me all the details."
"The last time, Zelda and Impa decided to go out to search for the Master Sword, and we decided to go look for allies. That's about it, unless you want me to say that again."
"No need for that, I got the gist of it."
Keapora then spotted the ranch they were heading to and started his descent.
With Groose's help, Romani Ranch had been mostly repaired from Dark Zelda's and the great Helmacucco's attack. The former bully himself was waiting next to the door to the main house. His Minish fanboy was sitting on his shoulder.
When the owl landed on a wooden box next to him, Groose greeted "We meet again, bird-face." slightly sarcastically.
"That we do, boy." Keapora answered amusingly.
Ezlo glanced at Groosari and asked "How you been keeping, Trevari?"
The other Minish answered "Rico ripo picori Groosari pico pico."
"You can't just change names like that, my boy!"
"Ripi-ripi pico-picori corii-pico."
"If you say so…" he then turned to Groose and asked "What is it that boy sees in you anyways?"
The human ran his hand through his pompadour and answered "I'm Groose, I mean…just look at me, what is it about me that isn't to be admired?"
"You do know that Trevari is a little insane, right?"
The Minish in question opened his mouth to protest, but was cut off when Ezlo said "Don't deny it." then he shifted his attention to Groose and finished "He spent his entire childhood reading about ancient heroes, guess who was his favourite?"
Groose couldn't come up with anything and Ezlo took his silence as enough of an answer.
"He wasn't interested in the hero in green, no. Nor was it the Goddess Hylia. His idol was some weird man that helped the hero in the Sky Era somehow. And interestingly enough, you look just like him."
"Really?"
Before the Minish wizard could answer, the sound of hooves could be heard. And in their wake, five riders came through the ranch's entrance.
All of the new arrivals were wearing long cloaks to conceal their appearances from any of Vaati's servants on their way. But when they reached the ranch, they all removed their disguises and revealed who they were.
Ashei, the raven-haired woman in a knight's uniform was the first to reveal herself. Then it was the young scholar Shad who still wore his trademark glasses. The last member of the trio, the old former royal guard Auru, was also present.
There was also a new face among them, a man who was quite well-trained despite his slightly older age. His clothing consisted of a black outfit with the symbol of the Sheikah on his chest, as well as a symbol of the sun on his right arm and the symbol of the moon on his left. He also had shoulder-length silver hair with a long braid hanging from the side. However, his most obvious feature was the bandage over his eyes, thus revealing that he was blind.
The last person to reveal herself was Ilia of all people, though her clothes were a lot different and actually had shoes on her feet.
Upon noticing her, Groose spat out "Ilia, what are you doing here?"
She jumped off her horse and answered "The same reason you're here, to do my part against the bastard who took our home away from us."
"But you really shouldn't…"
"Shouldn't do what? I can't just sit and wait while Zelda is risking her life to save us all, I simply can not. And while I may not be as strong as she is, I still feel like there is something I can do."
"Do you have to worry about her every single minute? Ever since she left you haven't stopped obsessing over how much you're worried she won't make it back."
"It hasn't been that bad!"
"Yeah right, when was the last time you slept?"
Before Ilia could answer, the blindfolded man put his hand to her shoulder and said "He's right, an unfocused mind is not good for you or anyone else."
Ilia answered "I know, but it's hard to relax when she is still out there...on her own."
"If someone has proven herself to wield two pieces of the Triforce itself, then she is not one to fail easily. Also, your worry is unprofessional, it will do nothing but hurt you."
Groose asked confusingly "Uhm…who are you exactly?"
"I am Ozshen of the Sheikah, the shadowy protectors of the royal family. I once protected Zelda's father, the King. At least I did until Vaati killed him when I was on a mission. And if I had to guess, you would be…Groose, am I correct?"
"That's me! Was it the hair or what?"
"No, do I look like I can see your hair? It was the obnoxious voice and the Minish on your shoulder that made you fit with the description I got."
Groosari gave of a surprised sound at the mention of him.
Ozshen then revealed "Perhaps you met Impa, Zelda's protector?"
"I might have…"
"Hmm...she was my apprentice. The news of her death was not something I took lightly."
Ashei got to the door to the house and shouted to the others "Can we stop waiting around and get on with meeting, yeah!?"
Shad ran up to her and answered "No need to be so rude, Ashei, it's not like we are in a hurry."
"I'm just a bit restless after riding for four hours straight."
"I'm far more tired than restless, couldn't we wait a little before we get started?"
Auru walked up to them and said "I agree on Shad's proposal, I say we take a few minutes to relax, then we go over the meeting."
The raven-haired woman finally relented "Ah fine, but don't take too long, yeah."
As they were preparing for their meeting, they didn't notice the mysterious glowing sphere dancing in the night sky above them. It was staring at the barn with malicious intent.
The S.S. Linebeck was passing through the Lanayru Sea in the hope of reaching the Isle of Secrets.
Zelda was sitting on a wooden box while leaning on a larger box. The map that lead to their destination was laid out on the box's surface and a lantern was placed next to it so Zelda could see what was depicted on it in the dark of night.
There were many locations marked on the map, and a lot of information to go along with it. The area they were heading to was marked with the words: To reach the forbidden island, only the one guided by a resident of the sea will find their way.
'A resident of the sea…who or what could that be? I guess we will have to find out.'
The other locations were even more interesting, the next location was marked with the words: Two dragons, a brother and a sister will hold their stone only for one that impress them.
'I think I remember something about two dragons living in Death Mountain, but I have no idea how I'm suppose to impress them.'
The third one was marked by the text: a lost child that will forever stay young is the only one that knows the way through the Lost Woods and to the treasure you seek.
'The description of that child sounded somehow…familiar, could it be…him?'
The final point of interest was the Master Sword itself, which was in the middle of Hyrule Castle Town. The text read: The blade of Evil's bane rest in the Temple of Time behind a door that will only open to the one with the three sacred stones. The blade can only be pulled from its pedestal by the one the spirit of the sword accepts as her master.
The last location would probably be the most difficult to reach as Vaati's Palace was right next to Hyrule Castle Town and the majority of his minions were dwelling nearby. Going there would present the greatest risk of getting caught by them than just about anywhere else. However she knew she had no choice, there was no turning back.
Zelda nearly got a heart attack when a golden scimitar was slammed into the box she was leaning just a few decimetres from her head.
She could then hear Aveil say "I am warning you one last time, we simply cannot go to the Isle of Secrets. We must turn back!"
Zelda leaned back and eyed the Gerudo for a few seconds before answering "I am not forcing you to come with me, but I have no choice but to go."
Aveil groaned "Urghh!" and asked furiously "Do you have a death wish, girl?"
"No…"
"Then why are you insisting on committing suicide by Phantom?!"
"This map I'm reading states that someone from the sea will know a way for me to get there safely. This means that there is a way for me to get there in one piece."
"What are you even looking for there? Because when I was there last time, I found nothing but those metal monsters and a lot of human skeletons."
"I am after the Zora Sapphire, one of the three sacred treasures needed to gain access to the Master Sword."
"The Master Sword, isn't that the weapon that slew Ganondorf all those years ago?"
"Well yes. Is that a problem?"
"A few thousand years ago I would have not taken that news so lightly, but things have changed."
"What do you mean?"
Aveil grabbed another box, placed it in front of Zelda and sat down on it.
"I suppose I owe you a little story. There are a lot of rumours surrounding my people, most of which…aren't true."
"Like…?"
"As you know are we all female, there is no such thing as a male Gerudo. But the Hylians, as stuck up as they are, believe that we are like you in that we need men to give birth. So some Hylians believe that we leave our homes to seek out Hylian men, or even that we abduct them. Well that's a laugh, like we would need your kind to give birth to our own people."
"Then how do you give birth without any men around?"
"Those details are for Gerudo ears only, stick around with me long enough and you might find out though." She winked just after finishing her sentence.
Zelda analysed that last remark in her head before saying anything else 'Wait, was she…flirting with me? I must be reading too much into this, let's not make any hasty judgements.'
Zelda then came up with a contradiction "Hang on a minute, you said there was no such thing as a male Gerudo, but I always heard that one was born every hundred years, and that that one was destined to become king."
Aveil sighed before answering "That was a long time ago, we have long since abandoned that stupid tradition."
"Huh?"
"When my people began in our sacred desert, we all tried to please our guardian deity, the Goddess of the Sands, in different ways. When our people noticed that once every thousand years a man would be born in our midst, the two sorceress sisters Kotake and Koume, came to the conclusion that the boy was meant to be our ruler. Soon enough, people started to agree with them, and before we knew it, their suggestion was written in stone."
"Kotake…Koume, it feels like I have heard those names before…"
"They are still alive, and were the ones that exiled me from my people."
"Why would they do that?"
"Because my family was the one who decided against the rule that they have guarded for thousands of years."
"No offence, but what was so wrong about that tradition?"
"Everything…everything about it was wrong. My grandmother was the one who found out the truth. The Twinrova sisters, as they are called, had apparently abandoned their faith in the Goddess of the Sands and now worshipped the mysterious Goddess of Darkness instead. In exchange for their magic powers and eternal life, the sisters were to shelter the reincarnation of Demise, the Demon King among my people."
"Ganondorf!"
"Indeed, the lone Gerudo man born every hundred years was not just a man, it was the very same man being reincarnated. The malevolent monster Demise in the form of a Gerudo, reborn again and again due to the actions of Twinrova and their master, this is what that tradition really was."
"When your family found out the truth, what happened to Twinrova?"
"My grandmother banished them from our people for good, or so we thought. The damage they caused was not forgotten by the Hylians, and they invaded our desert in retaliation for our greedy king's actions. We were eventually forced to flee from our home, and found a new home in these waters. I spent my entire life growing up to walk in my grandmother's footsteps and become the queen of the Gerudos. But then, they returned."
"I see…"
"Those stupid witches brainwashed my own people and turned them against me, I ended up floating on a piece of wreckage for days on end. Alone in both the freezing water and the scorching sun with no water to drink and no food to eat, I started to dream about every mistake I made, every breath of hatred I could feel and…everything I feared. It was…Dehtl, she visited me. When I broke away from the nightmare's hold, I had only one desire left: revenge. I wanted to make those old hags feel my blades separate their heads from their bodies. I wanted them to die so they may never ever use my people as their toys anymore!"
"Now that's a very interesting development." A very faint voice said from somewhere nearby.
Zelda heard it and asked "Did you hear something?"
Aveil turned to her side and saw that another box was slightly moving, someone or something must have been hiding in it.
The Gerudo picked it up, opened it and flipped it upside down. The most bizarre creature imaginable fell out of it. He looked like a cucco, but had a bald humanoid head and was wearing a pair of spectacles.
"Auch! That hurts!" He gasped out as he hit the deck.
Both Zelda and Aveil stared in bewilderment at the strange creature before them.
The mysterious creature got on his feet and said in a very posh (and British) voice "Now that is a very crude way of opening a crate, young lady!"
Zelda could only gasp out "Who are you?"
"I am…ehmm….you know what? it would be preferable if I just leave you in peace for now, and I promise I won't overhear you from that position…so…"
Zelda got on her knee so she could get to his level and prompted "Humour me."
"Well…it's complicated…"
"Really?"
"I…d-d-don't actually have a name like the denizens of humanity has, but you may name me…the Historian. Are you satisfied now?"
"Somewhat."
He started to walk away towards the stairs while saying "I will interpret that as a yes, then I'll be…" he stopped when Aveil placed herself between him and the door.
"…Answering our questions…" Aveil finished for him.
The Historian babbled "But…I can't, this isn't right, humans."
Zelda asked diplomatically "Can't you at least tell us what you are doing on this boat?"
"I was currently…uhm…listening…"
"Are you going to tell us why?"
"NO, I will not, and I repeat, I will NOT interfere, under any circumstances!"
"It's just a question."
"Knowledge equals power, and I am not permitted to give you anything that can affect the flow of history. Since the very creation of Hyrule I have observed history unfold itself, and as the appointed messenger of the sky beings, the Oocca, I have witnessed just what kind of impact interfering with history could inflict. And I will not…" he stopped himself as he realised that he had accidentally given out way too much information than he intended and finished with "…Bollocks."
"See, that was not so hard."
"Well yes, that will be enough information so I will be disembarking…"
When he tried to walk towards the other end of the boat, Aveil blocked his path by moving one of her golden blades in his path and added "I still want to know how long you have been following us."
He looked at her quizzically and finally answered "Fine! To satisfy your misguided curiosity, I can inform you that I was not pursuing you at all. It was in fact Princess Zelda I was observing."
Aveil then looked Zelda in the eyes with a chocked expression "You're a princess?"
Before Zelda could answer, the Historian muttered "Far too much information…again."
Zelda finally answered "Yes, I'm the crown princess of Hyrule, but I was usurped the day I was born by Vaati and I wasn't even aware of my royal heritage until very recently."
"My, my, my, out of all the people that just happen to cross paths with me, it is a monarch of the Hylians. I should consider you an enemy, as I have little respect for Hylians, and even less for monarchs. But…you helped me get off that ship, and for some reason…I like you, girl. So I will rest my blade for someone else."
"What's so wrong about Hylians and Monarchs?"
"It was your people that drove the Gerudo into the desert, and later from the desert into the ocean. And to be perfectly honest is the entire half of your people, the men, a bunch of self-centred pigs. As for monarchs…you can't just gain the right to rule an entire society by just being born, you have to earn that right." She then grabbed Zelda by her shirt and pulled her face right in front of a large scar on her neck while declaring "Do you see these scars? These are proof that I have fought, bled, sacrificed and killed to get to where I was. If you want your people to respect you, then you must be prepared to do the same."
She let go of Zelda, who had a chocked expression on her face, and returned to the inside of the boat. When Zelda snapped out of her surprise at Aveil's slightly vicious declaration, she noticed something. The odd Historian had disappeared. Zelda figured that he sneaked away when they trailed off with their conversation.
Zelda returned to her makeshift box-chair and continued to study the map. Linebeck came out of the door with his telescope in his hand about the same time.
He took a good look at the night sky with his telescope and seemed to be deeply puzzled by something.
Zelda decided to ask "What are you up to now, Linebeck?"
It took him a while to answer "Trying to use the starts to navigate…but that moon over there is…confusing me."
Zelda got to her feet and asked "Can I take a look?" and grabbed his viewing tool before he could answer her.
But what she saw deeply troubled her. Not only was the moon far bigger than it was suppose to be, but it also looked like it had…a face, it was still not close enough to see properly, but the moon was definitively not like it used to be.
Zelda muttered the words "This is not good…at all."
Linebeck simply asked "Can I have my telescope back?"
At the table in Cremia's and Romani's house, the resistance members had all taken a seat at the table.
Shad, Ashei, Auru, Ozshen and Ilia were sitting at the table while Groose leaned on a wall next to it and Ezlo was standing on the table itself. Keapora Geabora was standing on a ledge next to the others and Cremia was preparing drinks for the guests while her younger sister was keeping watch outside, mostly because she was rather paranoid about 'them' appearing at any second.
Auru started "Let's begin, shall we?"
"Yes, we definitively should." Ashei answered annoyed.
Keapora informed "Zelda is still in pursuit of the Master Sword and is currently headed to the Isle of Secrets to gain one of the three sacred stones necessary to enter the resting place of the blade."
Ozshen asked "Isle of Secrets?"
"Indeed."
"That is a very dangerous destination, is that really a good place for our so-called 'one and only hope' to be going?"
"It is her destiny, and she wouldn't be our 'one and only hope' if she isn't strong, wise and brave enough to succeed."
Ilia asked "How can you be so sure of that? If she is on her own and going to a place like that, shouldn't we help her out?"
Ashei answered "And where should we go? We don't even know where she is right now, yeah. And even if we did, she would have already left the island with the stone before we got there."
"But there were three stones, weren't there? Maybe we should help her get the other two at least."
Ezlo pointed out "I do remember where they were located. One was said to be in the Lost Woods, while the others were said to be in possession of the dragon siblings who rule Death Mountain. She would most likely visit Death Mountain before heading off to the woods."
Auru noted "My intuition is telling me those dragons will not part with their sacred treasure easily."
"Especially not with everything that's going on there right now." Shad added.
Ezlo asked "What do you mean?"
"You haven't heard? King Dodongo has started a campaign to take the mountain from them, and the Gorons have put up a big fight to keep their mountain for themselves."
Ozshen then suggested "Perhaps the dragons would be grateful if we help them defeat this…King Dodongo."
"I doubt they would be grateful enough, yeah." Ashei pointed out.
The owl noted "Perhaps what we should do, is to find even more allies. Even if Zelda obtains the Master Sword, there is still an entire army between her and Vaati."
Auru continued "Ever since the Palace of Winds was destroyed has Vaati grown more and more paranoid, I even heard that he has now cursed the entire Hyrulean court."
"And by 'cursed', you mean 'turned to stone'?" Ezlo questioned.
"Yes."
"Typical of him…" the Minish sighed before saying "I wish it never came to this."
Interested, Shad asked "What did?"
"Vaati…he wasn't always the power-mad sorcerer he is now. Once, he was just a boy, a Minish boy…my apprentice. If I had just known what my consequences would have caused…then things would have been different."
Ilia told him reassuringly "Don't blame yourself, what's happened has happened, beating yourself up over the past will not get us anywhere."
"Wise words for someone so young, you remind me of…never mind."
While the resistance members were discussing these important topics, Cremia was casually serving milk to her guests. And when she had given all the humans their mugs, she looked at Ezlo and asked "Uhm…can I get you anything, sir?"
"Actually, could I have one of those the others are having?"
"Do you want me to find you something in your…size to have it in?"
"That won't be necessary, remember, you are talking to a wizard."
She gave him a mug as well, and he promptly used his bird-shaped staff to magically shrink it to his size. Then he took a sip and said "Thanks."
Cremia looked at Keapora and asked "How about you?"
The owl answered "I'm fine, thanks for the offer."
Groose prompted "Okay, so how do we give this Vaati guy what he deserves?"
Auru answered "We need an army, one that can at least match Vaati's."
"That's a lot to ask for, man. Where are we supposed to find an entire army?"
"What about the royal legion, yeah?" Ashei suggested.
Auru thought about her suggestion before answering "They were all disbanded when Vaati came to power as he thought that the demon armies were more useful to him. Some argued about the decision, and were punished for it. But…if we convince the ones that remain that the Royal Family needs them, then they would not hesitate to take arms and fight by our side."
Groose suggested "Well why don't we just send them all a few letters and have the problem solved?"
Shad questioned "And I suppose you know how to find them, hmm?"
"Uh, what?"
"We don't exactly know where they are at the time, so our fist priority should be to find them, then convince them to gather at…anyone know where they should be gathered?"
Ozshen suggested "The mountains near the border to Holodrum are far beyond Vaati's reach, but are still big enough to house a big army."
"Maybe we should tell Zelda to meet us there when she is finished with her mission." Ilia suggested.
"If we could reach her. However, there is something else that we should discu-" he was cut off when he heard Romani shout "They're here!"
The sudden outburst made Groose turn around quickly to look at the window behind him, but it caused Groosari, who was standing on his shoulder, to stumble and fall into the human's mug of milk.
Auru said "We should continue this later…" and almost everyone inside left the building.
Cremia was the first to ask "What is going on?" when she saw her sister aim her bow at something.
The little girl demanded "Aren't you grownups going to do something? It's them!"
It was in that moment that the ghostly presences of several bizarre beings with huge glowing yellow eyes appeared all over the ranch. They were all heading straight for the barn with the obvious intention of taking the sisters' cows away.
Ashei took out her sword and said "This might take a while, yeah. If anyone want to help they are happy to do so, but otherwise this meeting is finished."
Ozshen, Ezlo, Keapora and eventually Groose joined in on defending the ranch from these mysterious invaders. While the others just sat back and watched.
This was going to be a long night.
In Vaati's palace, Duelia was once again trying to sleep.
For the last few weeks her dreams have been haunted by the same shadowy figure. Every single night had she visit her and whispered into her soul. And this night was no different.
She was now staring at a desolate wasteland with a blackened sky above her. The trees have all died, there were no sounds of birds, and there was no actual light. Yet at the same time she could feel a serene feeling in the silence and the darkness didn't harm her eyes. It was almost as if she enjoyed it.
A figure consisting of black smoke materialised in front of her, and a menacing voice said "This is the nightmare that spawned us, and it is one that will become reality when the time is upon us."
Duelia had gone through these nightmares for too long without a straight answer and lost her temper.
"I can't stand this anymore! Who are you and why are you tormenting my dreams like this?!"
"Harsh words…that's good, asking innocently will never give you what you desire. You have finally passed the first test, and accordingly, we shall answer your question as you desire."
Duelia then saw how that black smoke in front of her dispersed itself and revealed the figure concealed in it.
It was a woman, but she had purple skin with blue markings on it. She had eyes without pupils that glowed crimson and dark red hair that flowed down her back. She also had a black crown that curved up to slightly resemble two sets of horns with a red diamond in her forehead.
Duelia could still not see her entire body, but she could make out that her hands had four disproportionate claws rather than the five fingers humans have. And she could also see that the figure had some kind of cape that moved in the wind. But other than that was the figure still covered by the black smoke.
"The figure you see before you is the magnificent and glorious Goddess of Darkness herself, and she demands that you be in awe of her radiating majesty."
"So you are an actual goddess?"
"Indeed, we are a being that is far superior to those pointless mortals that defile your world. When the gods left it, you mortals spread across your new world and covered our divine relics in your own filth. But we, the great Mother Night, saw a solution. If all the life that bask in the sun where to be purified into her own image a true utopia would be created for all that desires it."
"And that is what I'm seeing here?"
"Yes, but this is not all you can see…"
The surroundings around Duelia changed as the black smoke altered her surroundings. She was now in a palace of some sort, it was not like inside Vaati's palace, but more like something she would have built herself. There were curtains of silk hanging all over the place and carpets that where dark red.
Duelia's eyes then locked on a throne in the end of the room that seemed to have been built specifically for her, but it was Mother Night who was sitting in it.
"This is the future for you if you accept our offer: eternal life, power beyond your filthy mortal flesh and most important of all…peace."
"Peace?"
The dark deity rose from the throne and floated towards and around Duelia while explaining her view of the world.
"Night and day, forever they are at war. When one side appears to win, the other casts it down only for it to have its revenge later. A never-ending cycle of births and deaths has been created in the twilight, the area between the worlds. However, twilight is beneficial to neither those that live in the light, nor those that dwell in the darkness. The only way for peace and satisfaction to ever bless this world is if one side permanently conquests the other, and that is why…we need you."
Duelia then felt the goddess' hand on her shoulder, but it felt very strange to her. It was much bigger than a normal hand, had only four fingers on it and was hard as metal. But what she felt the most was that it was so cold, it was almost like it was made of ice and the feeling of the touch made her entire body feel frozen.
The human could feel the goddess' cold breath as she whispered into her ear.
"Accept her majesty's offer or live the rest of your life as Vaati's pet or in his absence nothing until the judgment day arrives and you get swallowed by the void along with the rest of your pointless people. The choice…is yours."
It was in that moment that Duelia woke up, and she could still feel the cold hand on her shoulder as well as the chill in her ear.
She was now even more terrified of her nightmares, and the revelation that an actual god had an interest in her specifically was…a little too much for her to take. She had always heard stories about the deities that once dominated the world, but none of them ever mentioned anything like the being she just witnessed. It felt like the very air this 'Goddess of Darkness' breathed out was toxic, like everything she touched died, the very presence of her felt wrong, felt evil.
'But what if she is telling the truth? What if this goddess really is my ticket to a better life? You're smarter than that Duelia, how can anyone in this world give me a better life? But I know now that there is no reason to tell Vaati any of this, yes, it will be my little secret, yes that sounds alright.'
She put her hand on the ominous black marks on her neck and felt the same chill as the goddess' hand made earlier.
"Perhaps the cold isn't so bad after all…"
Back at the ranch, the sun finally rose and all of the invaders vanished along with the glowing sphere they came from.
All of those who chose to defend the cows from 'them' were now completely exhausted. Ashei grabbed Ozshen's shoulder and said "I think I will take a nap now, yeah."
The Sheikah answered "We can have another meeting another time."
"Yeah, whatever."
Author Notes
'Chapter 4 the Oncoming Storm' has been completely revised and changed its name to 'Chapter 4 The First Wave'. Also, I included my list of my top 10 most hated Zelda characters in the author notes of that chapter, be sure to check that out if you're interested.
At last, the Goddess of Darkness finally reveals herself. One thing I can say about her is that she is without a doubt the most evil and narcissistic character I have ever written. She will play a sort of 'puppet master' role in this story, but won't really step into the plot until the planned sequel, as this fanfic is more focused on Zelda taking her role as a hero and defeat Vaati. However, establishing a villain before throwing him or her into the spotlight can make the villain in question more interesting.
Also, two more OCs were revealed in this chapter: Ozshen and the Historian.
I don't really have much to say about Ozshen as he is rather self-explanatory thus far. However if you are wondering how his name is suppose to be pronounced, it's first 'Oz' as in the 'Wizard of Oz' and then 'Shen' As in Lord Shen from 'Kung Fu panda 2', so it's supposed to be pronounced Oz-shen.
The Historian on the other hand is a character I come up with a while ago, but I haven't come up with a good time or reason to throw him in. Some events in previous chapters have actually been caused directly by his actions, despite the fact that he says he doesn't interfere in historical events.
For whatever reason, I hated the idea that Gerudos seek out Hylian men in order to give birth, so in my headcanon at least, that was just a myth. And no, I haven't really come up with a better alternative. Just…use your imagination.
Aveil herself is more aimed to be an anti-hero rather than a classic companion, and I really love writing her dialogue so far. And there will be some conflicts between her and Zelda, but in the end they will both learn from and respect each other…hopefully at least.
Trickster: Having fun?
Flufux: You here again?
Trickster: oh, but this time it isn't just me, I brought a few friends with me.
Flufux: Who?
Dr Facilier: The Trickster got friends on the other side.
Flufux: Shadow man, weren't you trapped in the Voodoo spirit world?
Dr Facilier: Don't you disrespect me, little man!
Flufux: I was just asking.
Dr Facilier: I ain't answering questions from Fanfiction writers.
Flufux: Okay…who else have you invited here, Trickster?
Dimentio: Here I come like an unseen dodgeball in an echoing gymnasium.
Flufux: oh no…
Dimentio: Oh yes, esteemed Fanfiction writer. It is I, Count Bleck's master of dimensions, pleaser of crowds, I am Dimentio.
Flufux: Trickster! Why did you bring these characters here?
Trickster: Oh, they're my inspirational sources, don't you remember?
Flufux: Yeah, but wasn't Mr D-
Mr Dark: You called…
Flufux: Mr Dark, it has been some time. What have you been up to lately?
Mr Dark: Trying to convince Ubisoft to let me return and get my revenge on Rayman. But my plans have been halted by those pathetic Rabbids they got running all over the place. I simply can't stand them.
Flufux: I know the feeling.
Mr Dark: You don't know anything about me, nobody knows anything about me.
Dr Facilier: Maybe the cards can tell…
Dimentio: I do love a good card game…
Trickster: See? All my inspirational sources, well except Thistle, but he's owned by another Fanfiction writer and couldn't be present.
Deadpool: What about me?
Trickster: You?! Please anyone but you…
Deadpool: Come on, did you forget all about me, the best fourth wall-breaker in fiction?
Trickster: Actually, I wasn't inspired by you at all, Hehihihihihehe!
Deadpool: Hmm…let's see…we both cover our not-so-normal-looking faces behind something black and red, both can survive attacks that would kill normal people, both are completely insane and we can both break the fourth wall…like all the time.
Phoenix Wright: OBJECTION! According to the evidence in the review section and the author's testimony, Writer Flufux invented the Trickster of Darkwood about the same time he wrote Chapter 10: Dragons with Attitudes. But at the time, Flufux didn't know who Deadpool was, so he couldn't have been inspired by you.
Deadpool: How could anyone not know who I am? I am Deadpool, the merc with the mouth!
Flufux: I never read comic books. My only real experience with Marvel is through the films. And since you haven't appeared in any film I've seen, I actually didn't know who you were at the time.
Deadpool: Then how could you know so much about me now? Explain that, attorney I met in Marvel vs Capcom 3.
Phoenix Wright: the answer is obvious, isn't it?
Flufux:…
Deadpool:…
Trickster:…
Phoenix Wright: Flufux looked up who you were on the internet after MrRoMaGi reviewed that the Trickster reminded him of you in Chapter 14: Trouble at the Market…long after creating the character. TAKE THAT!
Deadpool: Too…much…logic, I'm out of here!
Trickster: Hehihihihihehehehe, I guess this proves that I won't need the likes of him in order for such an interesting character as myself to be created. My gratitude to you, Mr Wright.
Phoenix Wright: Anytime, if you ever need me again, give me a call. See you later.
Dimentio: Now that was an interesting spectacle, but I'm afraid I must be off now, ciao.
Dr Facilier: I think I might stay for…
Voodoo spirits: ARE YOU READY!
Dr Facilier: No I'm not ready at all, I just need a little more time. AAAAAAAHHHHHH!
Mr Dark: He was doomed from the start, and so might you be, Trickster.
Trickster: What do you mean? Hey, I'm talking to you, don't you just disappear on me like that!
Flufux: Looks like it's just you and me left.
Trickster: It was still fun while it lasted…
Flufux: This chapter is getting long…Well here it ends!
