Not Mine, Never Mine, Usual Disclaimers.

Jim practically inhaled the piece, tail wagging, and ignored McCoy as he strode away grumbling. He looked up at Spock who raised an eyebrow. Jim simply tilted his head and proceeded out the door.

'Fascinating,' came the soft voice of Spock behind him.

Kirk deliberately ignored him. Returning to the bridge, the day settled into a very quiet routine.

Three days later and Kirk began to feel sick, he made no show of this and followed his day as normal, morning spent on bridge during shift, roaming the rec rooms after lunch, before heading back to Spock's for dinner and chess afterwards. He blamed over indulging in the scraps people were offering when he roamed the rec rooms. He couldn't help it, food tasted so much better when you had four legs. Uhura seemed to be spending less time with Spock, but they were happy again which meant that either the problem had been spending too much time together or it wasn't lab equipment Spock was handling after lunch. That night, Jim awoke feeling strange, like the room had shrunk, and that the floor was very hard. He couldn't remember Spock's floor being hard, ever.

'Captain,' came a voice from behind him.

Kirk rolled over and realised that he no longer had fur, a tail or four legs, he was completely back to normal. Looking up he saw Spock watching him.

'You might want to cover up,' Spock said, eyes flickering down and then tactfully away.

Kirk went red and realised that he was rather naked.

'I'm going to go... take a shower,' he muttered, voice hoarse from disuse.

He slipped into the bathroom while Spock studied the wall with great intensity. Jim quickly showered and dressed, pondering the actions of people over the time he was a puppy, they seemed different than normal. He was fairly certain that if he had gotten drunk off Bones' booze under any other circumstances, Bones would have bashed him over the head. He was also certain that Uhura would have simply dumped is ass back into his own bed and left him there, rather than look after him. Heading back into the bathroom, he knocked on the door to Spock's quarters before opening them.

'Hey Spock, I just wanted to say thanks for... you know, looking after me and stuff.'

'You are welcome.'

'Goodnight Spock.'

'Goodnight Jim.'

As he headed to bed, Jim decided that maybe it wasn't so weird maybe there just wasn't anything that compared to the love of a puppy.

The End!
