"Why do I feel like in a Mission Impossible movie?" Asked Detective Gary Lawrence as he crawled through the ventilation shaft.

He let out a tired breath as he continued to crawl. And of course he knew the reason. Because him and his team were on their way to stop Victor Ryan and release the hostages that he was holding. Not to mention the two kids who were stuck in the middle of this…

Two kids that he really didn't know… well, okay, he knew Tori. He had spent enough time with his partner to know his family. Gary knew Tori and Trina, and he knew how much love David and Holly had for those two girls. And seeing how distraught the two Vegas were with the abduction of their youngest only made him want to help them even more. Even if it also included the boyfriend of their youngest...

Both these poor kids were in clutches of Victor Ryan, and Gary only could gather so much of their predicament… A predicament that really put the two kids in danger. None of him or his team knew what was happening to them. And he could tell that both David and Holly were feeling the upmost worst for these two.

Gary couldn't blame them.

Not because they were under the protection and love of the two parents, but also because Gary knew the truth somewhat. He knew that Tori and her boyfriend were recent prisoners down in Yerba, and knew that they went through some harsh times. He couldn't help but want to help them. Between being prisoners and now hostages, there was no telling how much pain and torture the two kids went through.

Pain and torture was behind the hands of Victor Ryan. And he could only imagine just what was happening between all three of them. Especially when Ryan found out that Tori was in fact the daughter of one of the cops working on trying to get her freed from this situation.

These two kids had been on the rough end of the stick for a while now. It's no wonder why David and Holly had a hard time dealing with the fallout. Even to this day, Gary couldn't help but be the ear David needed to release some much needed stress.

He let out a sigh and looked at the crawl space that he was crawling through. Continuing his journey, he couldn't help but think about how he actually got into this predicament. The decision for all five of them to separate. Two of which went to the front of the store, two went to the back, and he went into the ventilation shaft. Now, he had to find a room where he can get out of the shaft, and go back to the doors to allow both his partner and Henson inside. After which, the remaining two members would be at the front so that all entrances and exits would be covered.

After a few more moments, he finally noticed a vent that was open. Looking down, he found a room that was obviously inhabited recently. Seeing the vacant room, he said to himself, "First half down…" Reaching the edges of the open vent, he turned around and hung his legs over the ledge. Giving the room a once more look-over, he was satisfied when he saw the room empty.

Placing a hand on the hilt of his gun, he took it out of the holster and held it in his right hand. He then leapt off the ledge and landed on the floor below.

"Now it makes sense, huh?"

Gary looked up and saw one of the robbers in front of him. His two hands immediately went for his handgun, and quickly aimed it at the intruder. When he was satisfied with his positioning, he took one hand and went for his ear piece. "We found the leek. Require assistance."

It was only a few additional moments until Gary aimed his gun back at the man in front of him. He didn't know who he was talking to, but he also knew that he couldn't allow them to get the upper hand. Especially when they were at the disadvantage.

So at that moment stood the two men. One of which just asked for help, and the other one kept their opponent at bay due to the gun that he held. Detective Gary Lawrence knew one of two ways was going to happen, either he was going to shoot, or the robber was going to shoot. Well, actually Gary was going to shoot, or he was going to wait for help to come for the robber and he was going to get less of a chance to actually come out of this situation ahead.

Taking a breath, he knew what he had to do. As the robber placed a hand on his ear so that he could transfer the message, he did the one thing that could allow this to go down and take out the robber out of commission. Gary shot his gun and it hit it's mark. The robber bent down in pain as he covered his wounded appendage.

"You shot me in the knee!"

Gary didn't wait for a response. He took out his handcuffs and ran over to the robber. Taking his hands, he handcuffed the robber, and said, "You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law. You have the right to speak to an attorney, and to have an attorney present during any questioning. If you cannot afford a lawyer, one will be provided for you at government expense."

With his hands bound, Gary took the gun away from the robber and tossed it to the other side of the room. He took a chair and placed it next to him, shoving the robber in the chair. Watching that, he made his way to the door and waited for the door to open.

Sure enough, the door opened within moments, "What do you need, Mr. Raimi?" When Raimi didn't answer, the new robber was surprised to see the door close behind him. Turning around, he saw the cop grabbing his arms as well, and bound them together. He then read him the rights as he did moments before with the other robber and brought the robber to another chair.

"Where the hell did you come from?" He asked.

"From the vent, Spielberg." Raimi explained.

"You didn't make it any easier." Gary said under his breath… "Of all days too. I come to work today, help out your partner, get thrown into a ventilation shaft. Have a few laughs."

"Oh stuff it, McClain." Spielberg snapped.

"How many of you are there?" Gary questioned. When neither of them answered, he shrugged, "Doesn't matter. This ends now."

Looking around the room, he noticed a jacket that hung on a camera by the far wall. "Got to admit, the kid was smart." He smirked. Glancing back at the handcuffed men, he asked in a serious tone, "Where's the girl? Where's the detective's daughter? Where's the kid?"

"Why should we tell you?" Spielberg sneered.

"Would you rather I shoot your kneecap?" Gary asked. "Look, I can either make your time go easier or not. I could help get a better situation at California State. Or I can make your time more user friendly. Whatever you decide, I can make it happen."

"We don't need any deals." Spielberg confirmed.

"Downstairs." Rami said. Spielberg gave him a stern look. "You don't have your leg gushing blood. And I don't want to start to feel woozy anytime soon." He glanced back at the detective. "They're downstairs."

"Thanks." A moment passed. "And the kid?" When they didn't answer, he let out a dissatisfied sigh. "Don't get too comfy. You'll be taken in shortly." That said, Gary left the two of them. Making sure that they were was no way either one of the robbers could get out of their bound positions, taking their radios off of them so they couldn't ask for any further help.


"How you holding up, David?"

Detective David Vega glanced at Lieutenant Mark Henson, and said simply, "All things considered, fine."

"Uh huh…" Henson responded. Not buying his reply at face-value. But judging the situation of the matter, he knew he shouldn't press it. Any slight mention of a word, phrase, or even a sound could set something off, and then who knows what would happen…

All he knew was within the walls of the jewelry store were his two kids. Being held hostage above everything, and he knew that it was troubling his attitude and behavior. So much so, that it wouldn't make sense that he didn't feel anything problematic from the situation…

Detective Vega was a hard working cop; and he always knew that whenever something personal happened, he knew that he had to distance himself from the situation. Because no matter who strong, determined, or strong-willed he was, Henson knew on some level that it still affected him. Especially when it dealt with the likes of his daughter and his daughter's boyfriend.

So, rather than press his luck, Henson let the detective handle the situation on his own. If he didn't want to talk about it, then Henson wasn't going to question it. So, what he did do, was he pressed his back to the wall and took out his gun. Checking to make sure the gun was loaded; he quickly swung the cylinder and gazed upon the number of bullets still within the chamber. Seeing it at full capacity, he swung the cylinder back and placed it in its holster.

"So how long do you think Lawrence is going to be?" Henson asked, trying to stay off-topic.

David shrugged, "Could be any time. I know he's not too thrilled about it." He smirked. "And especially now too."

"Why?"

He grinned, "Gary recently went on a weight loss obsession. Because of that, he was the one to go through the vents. Only skinnier people really could go through anything like that. Movies play that idea allot, but none really take in the issue about size. Which is also why the kids were able to get through too. They were all small enough."

Henson couldn't help but smirk, "So, he really hurt himself there, huh?"

David shrugged, "I wouldn't laugh. If he didn't lose all that weight, you would've been the one to go inside."

Lieutenant Mark Henson stopped laughing.

It was at that moment when the door to the store opened. Both cops looked as Gary came out. "I know where Tori is. She's downstairs."

"Good." David nodded. "And Robbie?"

"I don't know." He answered. "I got two of the robbers handcuffed in the other room. It's where Robbie and the girls came out of. When we're all said and done, Robbie's jacket is on the camera."

David smiled. "Good move." He looked at Henson. "Okay, I'm going after Tori. Be on the lookout for Robbie. Get Brown and Seiger, and help out the hostages. There's still a few robbers left hanging around."

"Don't worry." Gary offered. "We got this. You can go ahead."

"Thanks…" David smiled, and went ahead of Gary and Mark. In pursuit of his daughter and hopefully her boyfriend too.


Damn her luck.

She was just told something she thought her fiancée would never say. That he would actually choose the one moment that she would end up dying would also be his last moment. And he was glaring down the one man with all the power. That stupid Victor Ryan. And Tori knew that he would take his rifle, aim it at her betrothed, and end it. Kill him.

He could die at that moment, and there wasn't a damn thing she could do to stop it. Her hands were bound, she had a piece of glass coming out of her forehead, and she had no idea how this was going to play out.

She hated this.

Robbie could get killed right now, and she couldn't do a damn thing to save him. She tried to get up. She might not be able to use her hands, or try to actually come up with a substantial plan, but there was no way she was going to lose her Robbie.

"Thanks for the idea, Kid." Came the words from the treacherous lips of Ryan. His tone was simple, sound, monotone.

He then took the rifle and aimed it at Tori. Robbie's eyes widened, "NOOOOO!" He was about to launch himself forward when they suddenly heard something from behind the door.

The door in front of them burst open a moment later. His handgun in front of him, held by both of his hands. Aiming right at the robber who was holding all the cards. "The place is surrounded, Ryan. We got cops inside, taking each and every one of your team into custody. It would be in your best interest to end this."

"Ah…. Detective Vega…" He said with a grin. "So good of you to make an appearance. Perhaps you came to see the final moments of your daughter? Because if you are, you're right on time."

"Don't even try to move, Ryan. You take one more step, and it's over."

He smirked… "Right…" He shook his head. "Funny thing about cops. They have a code." Taking his one free hand, he grabbed Robbie and brought him to him. Victor then took his rifle, and aimed it at Robbie point-blank. "You try and shoot me, and this dork is gone. You try anything, and he's done."

David knew he was right. Victor had the upper hand. And while he could kill this guy, he couldn't take the risk and watch Robbie die. "What do you want, Ryan?"

He smiled. "Well, you said that my team is in custody. And frankly, I'm okay with that. And if I can't walk away from here with noting, I'm okay with it. I rather get out of here and not end up dead. So, I'm going to be your prisoner." He then took his free hand and grabbed a hand gun that was just underneath his waistline. Right in front of his pelvis. He then took his rifle and used the rifle's strap to wrap it around his torso. "I'll keep the gun on your back, so don't try any funny business unless you want a bullet in your back."

It was actually at that moment when Robbie had a flashback about what happened in the moments before he made a return to the jewelry store…

"Are you really going back in there, Robbie?" Lola Martinez asked as they all got out of the store.

Robbie looked back at the vent they just climbed out of, and then glanced back at his friend. "I have to, Lola. Tori is my responsibility. I made a promise to myself that I will do anything to protect her. Going back in, I have a chance to save."

"Think of what you're saying, Shapiro." Jade declared. "Tori's dad, the cops, they know how to handle this. We'll go meet up with them, and then they'll go in and save her."

He shook his head. "Every moment I'm not there, or any moment her dad isn't there, she's going to end up one step closer to dying. I can't let that happen. I'm going in after her."

Jade groaned, "Dammit, Shapiro. You're just as stubborn as your wacked-up fiancée. I am not going to watch you get yourself killed."

"I'm going back, Jade." Robbie told her.

She shook her head, "Fine." She then went back to her waist, and took out her scissors, "Then take these. I'm not letting you go in without anything."

Remembering that, Robbie edged slowly around Victor as he was making the transition from rifle to handgun. Going in his belt, he took out Jade's scissors and reached for Ryan's rifle strap. Using the blade, he opened the scissor and slid it around the strap. Gripping the handle, he tightened the scissors and cut the strap. He watched as the rifle fell.

Ryan turned around and reached for Robbie's scissors. But before he could even make contact, a loud bang broke the silence. It was at that moment when Ryan stood still after he felt something rupture his chest. Looking down, he saw blood starting to pool down his shirt. "You son of a…"

But even before he could finish his snide remark, his eyes closed and he collapsed.

Victor Ryan fell dead.
