Chapter Twenty-Nine
Andy's POV
The past two weeks had been pretty great. Scout and Riley had been getting along great and even Jake and Scout were getting on. Jake may still be bitter about everything that happened with Arianna, but he wasn't directing any of the anger he was feeling towards Scout which made me pretty grateful. I didn't want her to feel out of place here after a few weeks.
On the morning, I was woken up by Riley's arm tightening around me. I turned around to see her still asleep with a smile on her face. I could only assume that she was having a nice dream about something. Tapping her arm to wake her up, I shuffled around the bed to get out of the bed covers because it was getting too hot now.
"Can you make any more noise?" Riley asked with a hint of annoyance, but it was only because she had just woken up and she was always cranky whenever she first opened her eyes.
"Someone's a bit snappy today" I chuckled to receive a hard glare from her. It was never any use trying to be in a happy mood around her when she had just woken up. It was always a matter of fighting a losing battle.
"I'm sorry" She sighed, shuffling closer to me with a hint of a smile. "Has Scout got Savannah?"
"Yeah, she's in Jake's room with her" I answered. Riley sat up in bed with wide eyes. "What's got you all excited?"
"They are so hitting it off" Riley sighed. I rolled my eyes at how excited she seemed to get over the fact that her brother might finally be able to find someone who isn't a complete bitch.
"Riley, you don't know that" I reminded her to receive another glare from her. "You should pry either. Jake is not going to like it if he finds out that you have practically been planning his relationship with another girl two weeks after he broke up with his last girlfriend.
"It's not like I'm going to start planning their wedding" Riley snapped. She was incredibly sensitive about her brother and I should have known better.
"Ry, I didn't mean anything by it" I defended, wanting to just begin this whole morning all over again. She gave a small sigh before letting me engulf her in my arms.
"I know you didn't" She mumbled. "I just wish things would go right for Jake for once."
"I know you do and so does everyone else, but he's got to find the right girl for himself" I said. I loved Riley, but I just wish she would leave Jake to do his own thing.
"You're right" She admitted before pulling a hoodie over her head just as Scout walked in with Savannah in her arms and Jake behind her.
"We're going out. Do you want us to take Savannah with us?" She asked. Jake seemed to have a smile on his face which started making me think about the fact that Riley could well be right about Jake finding a girl.
"Are you sure you want a baby crying when you go out?" I asked, wanting to make their 'date' go well.
"Yeah, we love Savannah" Scout exclaimed as though she thought it was absolutely atrocious that I could have possibly thought that she wouldn't enjoy the fact that Savannah was there.
"Sure then, where are you going?" Riley asked, a large grin being brought to her face as she asked.
"We're just going to a restaurant in town for some dinner and then we'll just come home" Jake answered. "We'll see you in a bit." He had already started walking down the stairs with Scout following suit with Savannah in her arms.
"Bye" I shouted down the stairs, but the door had already been slammed shut.
Jake's POV
We decided to just walk into town together since it was stupid to just drive when we only lived a few minutes away. Scout held Savannah closely as she walked. Her hair was swept back, cascading down to her waist. She wasn't wearing much makeup, but the little that she was made her look absolutely beautiful. Yes, I was starting to develop a little crush on her. That was a complete understatement. I was head over heels for her.
"Andy and Riley seemed really pleased that we were going out" I sighed, hoping that she would pick up the hint that I was really pleased.
"Yeah, I wonder what got into them" Scout laughed as we turned a corner that led to the final road to get into town. I could see some clusters of people which was one of the biggest signs that you were coming into town.
"Yeah, they can be a little bit stupid sometimes" I chuckled, trying to make light of the situation even though my heart was pounding against my chest so hard that I was scared she could hear it.
We reached the restaurant and took a step inside before standing at the podium to be seated.
"Table for two and we need a highchair" Scout said once the waitress came over. She followed the woman and sat in the seat whilst I placed Savannah in the highchair. The waitress placed two menus in front of us before leaving us to choose what we wanted.
"Do you just want to get a margarita pizza to share?" I asked, thinking about the money because this place was pretty expensive. She nodded before placing the menu back on the table and grinning.
"Hmm, we're sharing food now?" Scout asked. "We can't tell Riley and Andy because they'll something is going on between us."
My cheeks turned red as I pulled on my hair, desperate to do something with my hands, so I didn't wrap them around her neck and kiss her into oblivion. Everything about the way she flicked her hair and tapped her fingernails on the table made me turn into jelly.
"Yeah, they're stupid enough to do that" I agreed. "It's weird how friends can get together, but it seems to happen a lot." I was desperate to make it obvious to her that I liked her, so I could just get that scratching feeling off my chest, but she seemed clueless to the fact.
"Yeah, I think it's quite romantic when two friends fall in love, don't you?" She asked. My heart thumped on my chest even harder, if that was even possible.
"Yeah, it's amazing" I muttered, not trusting myself to say anything else on the subject. The waitress came back to the table and Scout ordered whilst I sat in silence and cursed myself for not telling her sooner about what I was feeling. The waitress soon left and we were left with an awkward silence, so I turned to Savannah and played with her hands.
"You're really good with kids" Scout commented making my cheeks burn again. "Do you want them in the future."
"I want to find someone who I can be with for the rest of my life first" I mumbled, embarrassed at the fact that I couldn't even keep a girlfriend for a few weeks. "I don't seem to have much luck in that area." She gave me a small smile in sympathy before leaning over the desk and holding my hand.
"I'm sure everything will work out with you." She reassured. "You could meet someone in this restaurant" I already have.
"I don't think I'm that lucky" I chuckled as the waitress placed the pizza in front of us, so I grabbed a slice to have an excuse for not making conversation.
After about ten minutes, Scout gave e a funny look and leaned over the table again, so she could get a better look. My eyes locked onto hers and I just melted.
"Are you feeling okay?" She asked. "You're being really quiet" I knew that I was just going to have to tell her sooner or later or I would never forgive myself for it.
"I just need to get something off of my chest and then I would be fine" I said, but I was too scared to actually tell her what it was that I needed to tell her.
"Then tell me" She said "If you think you're going to feel better about it then just spit it out."
"It really isn't that simple" I muttered, a hint of annoyance marking my voice that she seemed to pick up.
"Jake, this is really bothering you just tell me" She said. She didn't seem to pick up on the fact that there was a reason why I didn't want to tell her.
"It's about you" I snapped before instantly feeling bad for taking my anger out on her, but she didn't even care about that. She wanted me to feel okay again and that just made my heart swell.
"Did I do something wrong?" She asked. Just as I was about to answer, she started to speak again. "I really didn't mean to offend you in any way and if you want me to leave, I will."
"The last thing I want is for you to leave" I reassured. "The thing that is bugging me is that I really like you." Her eyes widened before she stood up. I knew that she would just end up running if I told her what I was thinking and now I had completely wrecked everything. I hated myself sometimes. She walked over to where I was sitting before resting her hands on my shoulders and leaning down, so we were on the same level. Her breath seemed to float over me and her hair tickled my forearms. Her eyes seared into my own as she moved ever closer before sealing her lips. They were warm and plush, but seemed to be almost violent at the same time. Every single thing about the way she kissed me made me feel as though I could just die right there.
"I like you too and it's been killing me to just be around you and not be held by you and not kiss you and not tell you how much I love being around you" She admitted. I pulled her closer to me and pressed her lips to my own again for a brief moment before remembering that we were in a restaurant and that it was not classy at all.
"Do you want to go back home?" I asked, already pulling Savannah out of the highchair.
"Yeah, I'd like that" She grinned. "Can we have the bill please?"
Once we had played the bill, we hurried out of the restaurant and started to walk back home holding hands. I could tell that she was a hell of a lot better than Arianna, but I still felt as though I would have to be wary around her. I hated the fact that I had practically been scarred by everything Arianna had done, but I knew that Scout wouldn't hurt me even after everything I had heard about her from Andy. She just seemed really different.
"This day has been awesome" Scout sighed before resting her head on my shoulder. I kissed the top of her head, gently before wrapping my tightly around her.
"I have to agree" I whispered. "Definitely one of the best days of my life."
Well, I think I might let Jake have at least once nice girlfriend! I hope everyone enjoys this chapter and I might not update by Christmas, so if I don't, I just want to say to everyone that I hope you have a great Christmas and a great end to the 2011 :D
