Will walked into the choir room and found Sam and Blaine in there. He had no idea they were in there. "Hey Sam. Blaine. Didn't know you two were in here?" He said and Sam and Blaine. Sam had his guitar on his lap. They were obvious doing something for Glee.
"Hey Mr. Shue, were just brainstorming song ideas." Blaine said and Mr. Shue nodded. "Great." He replied, but then they were interrupted by Sue walking into the room. "Hey Butt chin, fruity Fonzie, big mouth magee." She said, insulting each of the boys.
"What do you want Sue?" Will asked.
"Nothing, but I have to pass this on to all the teacher's being the principle now. I have instituted that all students get mandatory vaccinations. And I thought it'd be important for you to hear this because of all the diseases you and your students pass along in the halls and in this choir room." Sue said and Sam glanced and Mr. Shue.
"Wait, by vaccinations, do you mean shots?" Sam asked, hoping that he was wrong, but he wasn't.
"Yes. However, since flu season has passed, we will only be dictating that only 3 vaccinations are done. Polio, Meningitis, and Tetanus. All students must have had them by the end of the week." Sue said.
"Sue is this really necessary? I'm sure the kids got them when they were younger." Will said.
"Actually William, I looked into it. I have access to all the students medical records, and only twenty percent got them when from the ages of one to six. So any and all students who haven't gotten them, must get them here by the end of the week." Sue said. "I'm sure it won't be a problem for your glee kids. Just let them know."
"Wait! I can't get a vaccination! Needles freak me out!" Sam protested, obviously scared of having to get a shot or so.
"Sorry but as I don't see how that's my problem." Sue said to Sam, not caring if he didn't like needles. He would have to get the shots if he didn't already. "Anyway, I'm out of here before the illness the three of you are spreading throughout the environment of this room gets to me." She said, leaving Will, Sam, and Blaine, alone in the choir room.
"Mr. Shue if its anything, I had mine when I was little, like you said so I'm good." Blaine added and Will nodded.
"Exactly, but I guess this won't be a big problem." Will said, forgetting Sam's previous words from when Sue was in the room, no more than a minute ago.
Blaine turned back to his best friend to see him with wide eyes and a terrified look on his face. "Sam? Are you okay?" Blaine asked.
Sam shook his head. "I- I can't get a shot, Blaine. I can't. I hate needles." Sam said, very terrified. Blaine sighed and glanced at Will.
"You didn't get them when you were little?" Blaine asked and Sam shook his head.
"My parents didn't really take me to the doctor much. And then there was the part when we went broke and we could barley afford food let alone doctor visits." Sam told Blaine. "And I've always been terrified of needles so I never wanted to go either."
Blaine put his hand on his friend's shoulder. "You'll be okay. They're aren't that bad." Blaine said and Sam sighed. Maybe not to Blaine, but Sam hated needles more than anything. They scared him to death. He didn't want to get one shot, let alone the three Sue was saying he needs to get by the end of the week.
"Alright, so have all of you gone to the nurse and gotten the required vaccines if you hadn't gotten them before, right?" Will asked all his glee club students. They all nodded, happily, except for Sam who looked down with a frown on his face. Blaine noticed and wondered if Sam didn't get them.
"Sam?" Blaine questioned and he turned to Blaine. Everyone then looked at Sam. "Did you get your shots?" Blaine asked and Sam sighed.
"I- I was going to." Sam said.
"And by that you mean?" Blaine asked.
"I went to the nurse's office, someone else was in there getting one and well, I saw the needle and got freaked out. And I left. I couldn't do." Sam admitted.
"Okay, so everyone else got them right?" Will asked and everyone else nodded. "Well Sam, why don't you go get them now?" Will suggested. Sam's eyes widened. Blaine liked that idea, on the other hand he wasn't the one being handing off as tribute.
"No. I- I'm okay. Right now." Sam protested, his voice shaking a bit.
"You'll need to get them eventually." Blaine said, trying to encourage Sam to get them over with, even though Sam was terrified. "Just get them over with." Sam let a rustled breath and nodded. "Fine. I'll go."
Sam then got up and walked out of the choir room. He went to the nurse's office and peered in and saw the nurse. She was young, blonde, and was really pretty. A least that was what Sam thought of her. She looked up for a second and saw Sam and smiled.
"Hi, can I help you?" She asked.
"I um…" Sam tried to say.
"Are you here for your vaccinations?" She asked and Sam nodded. "Okay, take a seat." Sam nodded and took a seat inside the office.
"You look a little young for a nurse." Sam blurted out without thinking. She looked up and smiled.
"Yeah. I'm actually a sophomore in college. I'm Penny Owen." She told him. His eyes widened. "Y- your n- not a real nurse?" Sam asked, nervously. He was already scared and now knowing she wasn't fully trained scared him more.
"Uh, haven't been to nursing school, but working on it. Considering I've given a thousand shots the past few days, I'd say I'm a natural." Penny said, chuckling. Sam gave a grin. He was too scared to laugh.
"You okay?" Penny said, as she tied a band around Sam's arm.
"To be honest, I'm terrified of needles, so I'm really freaked out right now." Sam said.
"Oh, don't worry, this will be over before you know it." Penny said, taking a cotton ball and cleaning his arm. "Just relax." Sam tried to relax, but the fact that there was about to be a needle in his arm, he couldn't relax. He just wanted to get out of there.
"Okay. You ready for a shot?" Penny asked him, picking up the needle. Sam saw it and got really scared. He shook his head. "No!" Exclaimed and she frowned. "I'm sorry. I- I c-can't do this." Sam said, nervously. He started shaking.
Penny put the needle down. She knew she had to help him, that's what a good nurse would do. She felt bad for Sam. "Okay, uh, here's what your going to do okay?" Penny told Sam and he nodded. "You're take a few deep breaths first of all." She said and Sam obeyed. He took a few deep breathes. It actually calmed him down a little bit.
"Now, I'm going to clean your arm again." Penny said and did so.
"Now what?" Sam asked.
"Okay, now you're not going to look at the needle okay?" She said and he nodded. "You can close your eyes or look at me. Don't look at your arm or the needle." Penny instructed him.
"Okay." Sam said, taking another deep breath. He closed his eyes tight.
Penny picked up the needle. "Alright, I'm going to give to you the shot now." Penny said and Sam nodded. Penny then took Sam's arm and put the needle in and he let out a little scream when she put it in.
"Well, done the first one." She said and then got the other two needles ready. She cleaned another area on Sam's arm. "Don't look." Penny reminded him and he nodded. He didn't close his eyes. But he looked at her instead.
"Here we go." She said and put the second needle in his arm. He let out another scream, but it wasn't as bad as the first one to say the least. "One more." Penny said and then frowned, looking at him.
"What?" Sam asked. Penny looked like something was wrong.
"For the meningitis one I'm going to need you to pull down your pants and turn around." Penny said and Sam's eyes widened.
"You're going to give me a shot in my butt?" He asked.
"Technically the hip."
Sam sighed and did as she ask him. "Alright, last one." Penny said, but before she could do it, Sam started to shake again.
"Relax. Don't move, alright?" She said, Sam stopped shaking after her hand was places on his shoulder. He looked away as Penny took the needle and then put it in his side. He didn't scream this time, but it hurt. A lot more than when it was in the arm.
"All done." Penny said. Sam pulled up his pants and took another breath in. He was glad it was over. "Uh, what's your name?" She asked.
"Sam. Sam Evans." He answered. "Thanks for helping me."
"It was no problem. I mean, I'm a nurse." Penny replied.
"And for one still in college, a good one." Sam said and Penny chuckled.
"You can go when your ready." Penny said and Sam smiled at her for a moment longer before leaving the nurse's office. He still didn't like needles, but Penny did help him. Nobody ever tried before. Sam really liked her. She was pretty, young, and sweet. Maybe if he was lucky would get sick and have to see the nurse.
