Chapter Twenty-Nine: Devilish Life Pt.4
It was quite possible Chiyo would be one of the few left able to give an accurate description of the Kabukichō as the Control Spire spread its corrupting influence. Despite the depths of darkness she herself had sunk into she was still human enough to be disgusted at what she saw. On the surface Kabukichō looked like a star studded slice of paradise. Even with the rampant yakuza influence it was still a much visited district of Tokyo. Chiyo was among the group that believed the red-light district's criminal reputation is exactly what brought people to the area. Deep down they wanted the thrill, the excitement the area thrived on. There were plenty of viable excuses: the bars, nightclubs, restaurants, love hotels, and brothels. Quite literally there was something for everyone.
Just before the Control Spire broke the surface Chiyo briefly pondered if she could have made a life here. It would have been painfully, laughable ironic considering it was the same place her father had often snuck out to in the midst of his affairs. The idea had danced in her head for a while like some sick little fairy, would her name make its way to the brothels? Her father had blown through quite a bit of money at those places and his name had become quite popular. "I could change my name." She'd thought without a hint of emotion on her face that afternoon. It's not like anyone would care to come looking for her, the kind mother that would have had died long ago. "It's funny how that idea seems to sound so good compared to where I'm at now." A full minute after she made her proclamation the already locked down Kabukichō was torn asunder by the earthquake inducing birth of the Control Spire.
Like the hundreds of other "sin cities" of the world Kabukichō had been on a steady decline with its already prevalent criminal element exploding out of control. For almost a solid month the red-light district had been consumed by inter-gang warfare that the police force had to literally stretch itself to the breaking point to contain. Of course hand in hand with that the hundreds of brothels and casinos had experienced explosions in revenue with the spreading of sin. It truly was surprising just how many forbidden desires man was willing to indulge in if given the slightest push. Using all that collected energy made summoning a Control Spire child's play, and the best part was it was so far inland Dagomon wouldn't be able to touch it.
The hordes of Digimon had all but stormed through the obelisk's onyx black surface to bask in the glory of the Human World. Almost every facet of night life came to an end as the first howl pierced the night air. Murderous gangs and criminal organizations that had until recently being killing each other all night long suddenly dropped their weapons and fled the approaching wave of monsters that had suddenly manifested in the heart of their city. It was sad that they had been the ones to draw the monsters to the very place they were shedding blood to defend. The Demon Digimon could smell the rot on their souls and it made their mouths water. Like the bloodhounds they were they went after every yakuza their supernatural senses could pick up. Hell, they didn't have to be yakuza, all the needed was the stain of sin and that would be enough. Through the skies, through the streets and buildings, they flooded through Kabukichō leaving nothing but destruction and death in their wake. Naturally a handful fought back but this was no video game were the honor-bound samurai of the criminal world were able to turn the tide and inspire confidence in their brethren. Any man who stood his ground was torn apart in half the time it took for him to pull the trigger. Blood began spattering the streets and sides of buildings and its stench began to rise up filling Chiyo's nostrils. A cold chill ran through her.
"I…did this." The brunette whispered from on top her Ghoulmon. There were no voices in her head chiding her or applauding her. That terrified Chiyo a little because she'd grown so used to always having Daemon nagging her his absence left her feeling somewhat empty. "Is this it? Is this what I've come to?" The fourteen year-old sobbed feeling tears form at the edges of her eyes. Her blue eyes were clear reflections of the crimson fire scorching Kabukichō, with her enhanced senses she could make out hundreds of little details. It was like watching a horror movie, the most realistic pulse pounding one she'd ever seen. This wasn't like the kaiju films she'd enjoyed watching as a kid. She could literally see the people dying in terror and despair, every last one of them screaming to be saved. There was no towering behemoth taking out its aggression on a helpless populace; there were legions of digital monsters gleeful slaughtering whoever stood in there way because that's what they were born to do. And all it was happening because of her.
If the Ghoulmon minded the fact Chiyo barfed her guts out her his wings it said nothing nor did it express any disdain. She ordered it down so she could finish and it silently obeyed. The fiend continued watching the girl breakdown on her knees with its cyclopic eye trained on her. It waited the entire twenty minutes until Chiyo was able to drag herself back on top it. Her face was a mask of grief stricken tears that continued to fall even as she was lifted back into the air.
A line of Gigadramon made their appearance in the far off distance. Their purpose was clear and their forces were great.
But it was nowhere near enough to stand up to the power of the Ghoulmon.
With a sorrowful cry Chiyo gave the order to attack.
"Death Arrow."
The collected Megas said as their eyes glowed bright red. From each of them came solid red beams that completely obliterated the approaching wave in one coordinated attack.
Chiyo kept her head down as the Ghoulmon continued cutting down the waves of virus infected Digimon. What was the point of this? Not just the Control Spire but the point of this whole war? "When the hell did I end up involved in a pissing contest between monsters? And for a boy? One stupid, good looking, suicidal brave boy…" Long ago had she acknowledged the likelihood of Davis never knowing her but now the pain of that realization seemed to sting more than before. "If he hadn't known me than it wouldn't have matter when he struck me down. It's obvious unless we win that's how this whole mess is going to end." The Thai-descended girl despaired. "How did I end up here? How in God's name did I let this happen?"
THUMP! THUMP! THUMP! THUMP!
BING! BING!
The electric shock Chiyo received halted her tears instantaneously. Grabbing her Digivice her breath became nothing but a series of sharp intakes. Something had hijacked the portal they'd created with the Control Spire. Something very powerful based on her readings. The readings on her Digivice indicated whatever was coming through the portal was a Mega or at least a Mega equivalent of a Mega. That shouldn't have bothered her but the feeling of sheer dread she got told her the creature about to arrive was a manifestation of evil.
THUMP!
She saw tentacles swashing back and forth through the darkness.
THUMP!
She heard the unearthly moan that couldn't have belonged to any sane creature, human or Digimon.
THUMP!
She ordered all the Ghoulmon to form a perimeter around the Control Spire and prepare to fire at the first sign of something other than one of their own forces.
Black water began to bubble from the cracks around the Control Spire like a cauldron. The air bubbles popping sounded like hundreds of fireworks going off then silencing themselves. Quickly the water began to spread out covering the ground. The moon's light seemed to shine its light specifically on the Control Spire which began to shake. Gushing out the water started flooding the streets washing away the Demon and Fallen Angel Digimon who were just as surprised at its sudden appearance as Chiyo was. This time they howled in pain as their bodies began to break down into lumps of data that were swallowed up by the waves. Twisted pieces of coral jetted up expelling a red gas that dwarfed the black smog of the fires eating away at Kabukichō.
The Control Spire continued trembling until a haunting howl rose up from the inky abyss surrounding it. In seconds the obelisk was sinking into the water with pieces of its obsidian surface breaking off. The transfer of sin was halted causing the multicolored energy stream to disappear. With baited breath Chiyo and the others watched as the tip of the Control Spire vanished underneath the swirling whirlpool of black water.
Peering into the whole with her senses Chiyo placed a hand over her chest to calm her beating heart. It didn't help when she saw the singular eye appear in her mind.
"AAHH!" The fourteen year-old screamed falling back. "Fire! Open fire! Whatever that thing is don't let it come through! Seal the portal! Now!"
Immediately the Ghoulmon began firing creating a solid ring of red energy. They all came down on the whirlpool at the exact same moment becoming a might red hammer of destructive energy. The water churned angrily though it didn't disappear or break apart atom by atom like most objects hit with Ghoulmon's Death Arrow. There was also no cry of pain from whatever it was that was rising from the water, the horrid moaning continued.
Chiyo was one heartbeat away from calling for back up when the moaning became words. The voice she heard was definitely male, impossibly deep and foreboding even if it didn't mean to be.
"That rrrrreeeeaaalllllyyyy hurts you know. Can you knock it off?"
THICK! THICK! THICK! THICK! THICK! THICK! THICK! THICK! THICK!
Chiyo didn't see what happened too curly, neither than any of the Ghoulmon before their demonic lives were ended. She was sure they were tentacles, tentacles with the strength to tear solid steel, Chrome Digizoid if you will, apart. They had to be in order to completely bisect the Ghoulmon. Her breath caught in her throat as she the first three flash that preceded the sound of the Ghoulmon being killed. Their death cry was a strange sound, half-way between a gasp and glass breaking. For the rest all she could were straw flashes of grayish green light. One of those flashes was unsettlingly close to her; that was how she realized the Ghoulmon she'd been riding had been hit. She hadn't realized she was falling until she felt the unnatural scaly hands of another Ghoulmon catching her in its arms. Even though none of her senses were working leaving her unable to register what hideous creature was rising out of the whirlpool.
When she finally did regain her senses she sorely wished she hadn't.
The…thing was humanoid, granted it stood at some twenty meters high. It looked exactly like Cthulhu had walked straight out of the pages of a thirties comic book. Countless lines of red DigiCode had literally been carved into its flesh which upon closer examination was actually scalier than one might have expected. Necklaces and armbands made from hundreds of mammoth sized bones covered the creature's neck and arms. The two sickly dragon like wings on its back were tucked in tight though there was little doubt they'd be able to carry such a massive creature across great distances. In the creature's left hand, implanted in the ground, was a single edge great sword that looked like it had been carved from slight rock given its jagged edges. Just like with his body scarlet red DigiCode had been carved into the blade. The handle ended in a broken chain that could have passed for a battle ship anchor.
Whatever the creature's face looked like was obscured by the curtain of tentacles that apparently was the creature's hair. Looking at the rest of the body Chiyo wasn't so sure she wanted to see what the face looked like. If she lived she was already sure she was going to be having a plethora of nightmares for a long time.
The unearthly moan that was the Digimon's voice reverberating through the thunder through an open field. "KARI! TAKERU! KEN DAVIS!" Came the voice behind the curtain of tentacles. With that the Digimon began its slow advance through the ruins of Kabukichō leaving the still open DigiPort behind.
Holding up her shaking hand to get a beat on the mysterious Digimon Chiyo held her breath until a file on him was finally located. From the description Chiyo felt like she'd just been sucker punched in the most sacred area imaginable. "Oh wonderful! Like nothing else weird, horrible, or nightmare inducing could decide to go for a walk tonight!"
Name: Ythomon
Level: None
Attribute: Virus
Description: It's hard to say if out of all three of Dagomon's "children" Ythomon is the most or least malevolent. Often more pragmatic then his sisters and straight forward he' barrel through entire cities just to kill or capture one person, not at all seeing the problem in this. Any attempt to stop him from completing whatever objective he's been given is a testament to suicide as just like his sisters he's absolutely ruthless in carrying out the wishes of his "father". Ythomon's demonic sword "Yilla" possesses the ability to cleave through space making for a deadly force of destruction. Its Eldritch Edge can send the target into another dimension from which there is no return and its Tidal Shift is virtually teleportation a la Lovecraft style. If those don't have you terrified then try standing up to its Jagan of the Abyss laser attack All Ends in Red, by all means try, you'll hardly feel a thing when you go.
When she'd gotten a hold of Valére she'd all but screamed what she'd just seen into his ear. His response was to tell her to calm down and take care of Davis and Ken while he handled T.K. Chiyo was just about to leave the scene when she heard the strange noises coming from the stadium sized DigiPort. It still hadn't begun closing. "Christ what the hell am I going to have to deal with tonight?"
When everything was said and done Matt and WereGarurumon believed they'd know what it would feel like to have a passionate hatred for reptiles. Snakes in particular given their current situation.
Yigmon wasn't even trying hard to fight off them or the DeviKnightmon, hell he was holding both groups off with lightning fast sweeps of his tail. WereGarurumon had taken more hits from that accursed tail then he could count, broken more digital bones than he could count. In spite of that he kept going. That was where Yigmon seemed to grow irritated and increased the pressure on them, or rather on WereGarurumon. So frustrate with the werewolf had the snake god grown he'd lost track of his human partner. On that one that also had the DeviKnight to thank, they were just as relentless in their attack.
"What is this? Night of the endless pests?" The viral Mega roared sweeping his tail around him sending all his attacks skidding through the ground. "Stay down the lot of you! Can't you see all you're doing is prolonging your own already painfully assured deaths?" For a response he got a barrage of fireballs and demonic energy blasts that did as much damage as the wind against his DigiChrome like scales. "Oh well, more fun for me then." Yigmon laughed. "Earth Rending Scale!"
That attack was one WereGarurumon made sure he avoided at all costs. It wasn't easy dodging the death train that Yigmon became when he performed his signature attack. WereGarurumon had trained himself to trace high speed movements and his training had been well spent in his recent battles. Against Yigmon it was the almost test.
"STUPID MUTT! STAND STILL AND GET DELETED!"
He had the edge, even if it was only by a hair's inch or so but WereGarurumon had the edge over Yigmon in speed. That was all that kept the bipedal canine alive during the three minutes Yigmon kept up his attack. The snake's frustration manifested in wild curses he threw WereGarurumon's way as he bulldozed his way through Digimon, human, and building alike.
As the wolf and snake played what was likely one of the deadliest games of cat and mouse every played the DigiDestined' Second in Command tore away at the amassed serpents that had entombed his brother and his partner.
Matt had no plan other than getting T.K. and Patamon out, which really sucked since he had to do it bare handed. Tearing one snake away wasn't a problem, sure it bit and snapped at him but if he was fast enough he didn't have anything to worry about. Expect he wasn't just yanking out one, he was digging his arms in and screaming his brother's name at the top of his lungs. Not a moment went by that his hands didn't scream in pain from the dozens upon dozens of snakes angrily biting into his flesh. "T.K.! T.K.! PATAMON!" The dirty blond screamed over and over again into the towering mass. The snakes didn't stop at Matt's hands, from their collected mass they leaped out slamming their jaws down on his shoulders, face, chest, and even his neck. And that still wasn't enough to get him to stop. "T.K.! I KNOW YOU CAN HEAR ME! JUST HANG ON A LITTLE LONGER! I PROMISE I'M GOING TO GET YOU OUT OF HERE! YOU AND PATAMON! JUST PLEASE WAIT FOR ME A LITTLE LONGER!"
So caught up in his mission to tear his brother free Matt had failed to notice the radiant glow of his Digivice. From deep within the mass a similar glow began to shine through; it burned the data composed flesh of the snakes then spread to the rest of them.
A voice began to reach Matt's ears, faint at first then it was ringing in his ears. "Matt! I'm right here!"
The rocker could feel the light from his brother grow stronger furthering his resolve to find him despite the loss of feeling in his arms and even his legs.
"Patamon! Come on body we got to get out of here now!"
"You don't have to tell me twice!" Came the Rookie's answer. Alongside the light from T.K. came a second more intense sphere of luminescence that practically incinerated the now terrified snakes. Just barely rows of bright blue data could be seen rotating in a circle.
Ceasing in his fury-driven rampage Yigmon noticed the growing masses of light destroying his children. "IIIIII ddddddooon't thhhhiiinnnk sooo!"
"Tears of the Stars!"
"Wwwwwwhhhaatt!?"
A collection of black and yellow balls of plasma rained down on Yigmon without end at last blowing some of his beloved scales apart. Matt and WereGarurumon heard the snake god cry out in pain for the first time.
Invigorated by Yigmon's injury the Yoshida brothers tore more viciously at the vipers. Through the haze of scales and fangs Matt saw his brother's hand desperately reaching out. All too quickly did he thrust his left hand in to grab it. In spite the numbness he could feel the warmth radiating from T.K.'s hands feeling his body with renewed energy. With a roar he called that strength forth in order to pull T.K. out.
Patamon digivolve to…Angemon!
Exactly as Angemon burst forth from the organic mass Matt at last pulled his brother free. Both boys had tears willing up in their eyes that freely fell as they began falling through the night air. Catching sight of the boys Angemon flew in grabbing them in both his arms then flying away to where WereGarurumon was resting. The joy of the reunion was short lived once the three were able to get a good look at Matt's condition.
"Good God," T.K. whimpered seeing the horrendous pain his brother had endured to rescue him. There wasn't a spot on Matt's body that was free of snake bites of various sizes. Rivers of blood freely ran down his upper body and legs staining his already wet clothing deep red. Matt's entire left arm hung motionless at his side while his right continued twitching. Based on the fading light in his eyes and slow rising of his chest he was doing all he could just to stay awake. Guilt welled up then exploded inside of T.K. as the realization that he was the cause of Matt's grievous injuries. "Matt…" the younger of the two whispered before turning to Angemon. "If there's anything you can do Angemon, please!"
"I will T.K., I promise you and WereGarurumon." The vaccine Champion confirmed placing his hand above Matt's chest. Radiant light began to shine from his palm then spread to the whole of Matt's body.
It was just as the wounds began to close that the four heard the thunderous voice of Dagomon's "son". A sound that none of them would ever forget.
"KARI! TAKERU! KEN DAVIS!"
Even the DeviKnightmon and their command paused in their attack to absorb the full weight of the voice. Whatever fear they may have possessed, that is if they could feel fear, was hidden behind their demonic masks.
Unlike his opponents Yigmon was roaring with cold hearted laughter that resounded throughout the street. "Now do you fools understand how doomed you are? There is no hole in this forsaken city, no, this country that you can hide in!"
"The only fool here is you Yigmon, just as the only one who should be concerned about hiding is you!" Shouted shrill voice. Taking his place on a broken rooftop was an eight foot tall nightmarish bird with pitch black and gold wings. Its feathers sparkled like darkened stars under the moon's pale light. Golden armor covered the body. The head was protected by a gold colored helmet that had four eye holes for the crimson orbs that angrily focused on Yigmon. "You ocean scum are all going to die one way or another, the only difference is the order in which you go. Tonight we will have you and the Prince of the Dark Ocean!"
Yigmon sneered in disgust while crossing his arms. "Big words for such a little creature Stolasmon."
Name: Stolasmon
Level: Ultimate
Attribute: Virus
Description: If anyone ever tells you to gather the lustrous jewels Stolasmon drops as he flies don't, you'll regret it. A loyal servant of Barbamon it incites greed and chaos wherever he flies by dropping jewels that glow with star like brilliance. Whole villages have been wiped out due to its inhabitants fighting over them while Stolasmon watches on in sadistic glee. For any brave enough or foolish enough to face him he's more than willing to use those precious jewels in his Fall Chariot and Tears of the Stars attack. For any who truly incurs his anger his Quantum Onyx attack has the destructive power of meteorites behind them.
"You're free to test me worm, it is your funeral after all. Fall Chariot!" Stolasmon yelled flapping his wings. A collection of stars in the shape of the Auriga constellation lit up the sky. The stars pulsed with a dark light before hurling themselves directly at Yigmon. "Kill the worm!" The Demon Beast commanded his soldiers just as his attack made contact.
WereGarurumon spent one second looking between the ensuing battle and his still wounded partner. "T.K., contact the others, tell them Matt's injured and we have to regroup." He ordered dropping his partner over his back. "Angemon?"
"Just keep moving." He answered grabbing T.K. "We'll be right behind you."
Seeing the Champion and Ultimate fleeing with their partners caused Yigmon to snort in disgust. "It doesn't matter." He concluded catching a DeviKnightmon then effortlessly snapping its neck. "Run all you want boys, all you're doing is prolonging the inevitable."
Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom!
Sora was pretty sure if she lived through this mess she would forever scratch off any career involving flying. It would actually be a miracle if she was ever able to get on a plane without having a nervous breakdown like she was at the moment.
Of all the mid-air dogfights she flown with Garudamon on this one was by far the most horrifying. The Ghoulmon might as well have been fighter planes for all the firepower, speed, and persistence they hounded Garudamon with through the Shibuya skyscrapers. Though she had the edge over them in speed they were perfectly content to either blast their way through the buildings she flew around for protection.
"Explosion Eye!"
BOOM!
With wide eyes Sora and Garudamon watched the entire middle portion of the ( ) be blown apart from the collective blast from five Ghoulmon. The five flying eyeballs burst through the smoke, the rims still fresh from their combined attack. Cursing Garuda prepared to soar upward to avoid the combined attack she knew was coming.
SSSSLLLLIIIIISSSHHHH!
Dozens of the Ghoulmon were ripped to shreds while a gray blur jumped from one falling piece of wreckage to the next. Planting his claws in the side of a building Raandaimon called out. "Oh what? You're just going to leave me here all alone? I was expecting more from the Child of Love! Well here then, have a parting gift Sora Takenouchi! Hell Harpoon!"
Garudamon saw the blood red energy wrap itself into a twisted harpoon that measured some six or seven feet. With a mad grin Raandaimon threw it like a seasoned fisherman. In one look Gaurudamon knew the harpoon was raw destructive power given form. "Sora hang on!" she yelled tucking her partner into a ball with both hands before jerking to the right.
A handful of Ghoulmon were unlucky enough to be in the path of Raandaimon's attack. It was like watching a bullet go through a piece of paper, the sound being exactly alike. The towering skyscrapers that had taken years, decades even, to build fared little better against the Hell Harpoon. The hole it left in the four buildings it punched through were clear and eye-widening.
Garudamon's eyes widened considerable seeing the destructive power of the projectile. She'd expected nothing less from a Mega, an attack that would end her and her partner if it made a direct hit. She hadn't even factored in the Ghoulmon's Death Arrow or Explosion Eye. "Sora," she started her wings began to glow bright.
"I know Garudamon." The auburn haired teenager called. "Just tell me, how long?"
"I don't know, eighty seconds maybe." She answered focusing all her power into her wings. "Whatever you do just keep your eyes closed!"
Rows of fire erupted from Garudamon's wings giving her a boost of speed that would have put even American bombers to shame. Her eyes narrowed into near slits, her sight coming into much sharper focus. On the ground onlookers claimed it was nothing but a red, bird-shaped blur they saw being chased by countless flying eyeballs and a harpoon-throwing shark man. It breaked and at insane speeds and angles while its pursuers crashed into everything it avoided.
"I never knew a Garudamon could go that fast," Raandaimon stated after his fifth Hell Harpoon failed to hit the target. Even his Mega level eyes, eyes that had tracked countless prey through the darkest ocean trenches were having a tough time keeping up with Garudamon. Based on their wild firing the Ghoulmon were having the same, maybe even more trouble than he was. "you may be fast," he commended the Ultimate after watching her avoid a collective Explosion Eye. "But how long can you keep that insane speed up? And without turning your partner into a pancake?" The Beast Man threw back his head in laughter.
Though he'd dropped his pursuit Raandaimon's words weren't too far from the truth. In the sixty-three seconds Garudamon had used her "Jet Boost" her entire body had started screaming in pain. Her data was close to completely breaking down to the point she'd be lucky if she survived as a Digi-Egg, but she couldn't listen to the pleading of her body. What she was listening to were the frantic cries of her partner. Sora wasn't wearing any kind of protection so her body was almost totally bare to the Mach speed she was flying at.
"I…can't…keep this up…much longer!" Garudamon realized pulling off another extreme turn that practically broke her back in its execution. "Sora! Are you-"
"Death Arrow."
In a way both Sora and Garudamon were relieved when they were brought to the ground. Both of them were in so much pain it hurt to so much as move their arms. Above them they saw two Ghoulmon hovering above them with their respective eyeballs beginning to glow red. Ignoring her body's protest Garudamon reached over to shield Sora with her strained body fully aware of the consequences.
"Explo-"
"Vulcan's Hammer!"
The thunder arrow soared across the sky then hit both Ghoulmon at the exact right moment. The energy build-up in their eyes went off before they could fire, resulting in a massive explosion that consumed both Megas.
The two lifted their heads up to see Joe and Zudomon protectively standing in front of them. A strange goat-like creature was floating before them, shouting something the two were too tired to make out.
Sora's vision constantly shifted from color to pure darkness for a while. The only constant in her world was the sound of battle, of Zudomon and Joe shouting in pain and Mephistomon's demonic laughter. Summoning up whatever strength she had left she forced her eyes awake and her body to her feet. She tasted the blood in her mouth but she didn't care much for it. Behind her Garudamon rose up, her right fist ablaze with red and orange flames.
Once she saw Mephsitomon move in to strike a downed Zudomon she forced her body forward.
"Fire Punch!"
SMACK!
Her attack nailed Mephistomon right in the cheek sending him crashing against the ground. "Still got some fight left in you huh?" he sneered.
Zudomon caught her just as she was sure she was about to fall to one knee. "More than enough…to take you down." She wheezed.
Like their Digimon Joe was supporting Sora. In one look he'd deduced she'd fractured some of her bones and put too much strain on her body to stand. She needed to be in a hospital room not here on the battlefield.
"We have to fall back Joe." Sora stated watching their partners engage Mephistomon. "We can win this in our condition."
"I know that Sora…but I can't leave this." The glass wearing DigiDestined answered with clenched teeth.
"Joe! We can't-"
"I know Sora!" he fired back before looking away. "Sora…we…I can't pull back because Mimi's home is down this street. I am not letting this thing take one step closer in her direction. Even if it costs me my life."
Sora had known Joe for a long time and during that time he'd always been the rational one alongside Izzy. Every few times had she seen him speak or act with such determination, but when she did she always saw Joe at his best. This was the same…and yet it was completely different. His body was radiating a type of cool warmth she'd never felt. Around her neck her crest began to pulsate and glow with its usually red light while Joe's was shining with its blue-gray light. The light from Sora's crest seemed to flow from her into Joe who kept his eyes on the battle.
A small came to Sora's face as she put all the pieces together. "I see now, so you finally took the hints." The seventeen year-old mentally chuckled. "Okay then, we hold the line here." She confirmed flashing Joe a smile.
At first Joe seemed confused but reading the understanding in Sora's eyes he got the message. "Thank you Sora."
"What in Lucemon's name is going on here!?" Mephistomon roared after taking another hit from Zudomon's hammer. "You were on your last legs little more than a minute ago! Where did this accursed power come from!? Black Mist!"
The gray and red auras that been empowering Zudomon for the last two minutes flowed into his hammer as he raised it. "Vulcan's Hammer!"
Garudamon, having been rejuvenated by the Crest of Love's flowing power stood shoulder to shoulder with him. "Wing Blaze!"
The flaming bird silhouette combined with the arrow shaped thunder blast. It plowed through the approaching cloud of toxic mist to directly strike at Mephistomon. The goat-themed Ultimate screamed in pain as he was catapulted across the street crashing against the ground. Zudomon took a massive leap that brought him crashing down on top of Mephistomon, the viral Ultimate crying out once more. While Zudomon literally hammered away the Ghoulmon amassed around him ready to destroy Mephistomon along with their target.
"Fire Tornado!" In a a flash Garudamon was barreling through the flock of Ghoulmon, of not deleting them then at least injuring them enough they decided to pull back.
BANG! BANG! THUMP!
"Get off of me you overgrown mammal Black Sabbath!" With that Zudomon was blasted away but from the look in his eyes he was still ready to fight. "I'm going to enjoy ripping you ap…what?"
Heavy footsteps pounded against the concrete as an enormous cloud of steam rolled in.
"Talk about one hell of a slug-fest. It's been centuries since I've smelled that rotten stench called love. Makes me want to vomit."
The steam was coiling off the nine foot tall coated Digimon that had just arrived. The thick, half-buttoned coat he wore seemed to be made out of solid steel from its texture and shine. From his back dozens of eyeless, vampire fanged tentacles snapped at the air, some of them had steam coiling off the tips as well. His face appeared to be a helmet with four long jagged lines running horizontally across. Behind him was a legion of cloaked Deep Ones and virus-infected Digimon of various levels.
Name: Sthanomon
Level: Mega
Attribute: Data
Description: Yigmon's most trusted assassin is an all business no pleasure kind of person. If you're his target you might as well do yourself and favor and surrender, at least then he'll make your end quick and clean. He wields the power of heat and cold to create truly devastating attacks such as his Cold Nova and Tsunami Scorcher. By mixing those two together he's able to create steam for his dreaded Steam Bomber and Blue Inferno attacks.
"You miserable maggot!" Mephistomon howled turned to face Sthanomon. "You dare inter-"
"Devourer of the Abyss." Sthanomon muttered sending his many jawed tentacles at Mephistomon. In seconds the jaws had dug into Mephistomon and wrapped around his body.
SNAP!
Joe, Sora, Zudomon, and Garudamon watched Mephistomon's body fall to the ground with narrowed eyes before focusing on Sthanomon.
His jagged eye lines went from Garudamon to Zudomon. Ina flash he was in front of the giant mammal, his right fist planted against his chest. "Steam Bomber!"
"GAH!"
Zudomon flew back a good thirty feet from the attack but by slamming Thor's Hammer into the ground he was able to stop himself. Roaring in defiance he came at a surprise Sthanomon. Jumping out of the way just as he swung his hammer the tentacles Mega regarded Zudomon like he'd just grown a second hand.
"Been even longer since an Ultimate took my Steam Bomber and got back up." He admitted with a nod. Steam exploded from the open ports and vents on his body almost entirely concealing his form. "As steamed as I am about it I've got bigger fish to fry. I'll save you for later…walrus."
With that the steam expanded covering a good of the forces Sthanomon had brought with him. When it finally let up he was good along with the main half. Those that had been left behind took battling stances that Zudomon and Garudamon mirrored.
"Was I just insulted or complemented?" Zudomon questioned readying his hammer.
"Maybe a little bit of both Zudomon." Garudamon answered.
The last thing anyone near the Inoue apartment complex wanted was for the Deep Ones to arrive. They came out of the mist with Sthanomon leading them. He took one look at the assembled fighters and growled.
"Kill the little emperor, save the goggle head for last." He barked to his human and Digimon followers.
Without a word they all surged forward, jumping and on and tearing at the LithoRosemon like mindless insects. Against their stone skin the attacks might as well have been whacks from a stick, but the Deep Ones and Digimon weren't trying to break the stone skin of the LithoRosemon. Through sheer numbers they were able to bring a few of them down where they proceeded to mercilessly wail on them. Though they were small cracks began to appear in the LithoRosemon's tough skin.
Seeing Sthanomon as the greater threat to their partners ExVeemon, Stingmon, and Shurimon simultaneously charged. Without a word he caught each of them by the throat and began slamming them against the ground and whatever building or vehicle that was still intact. Their pained cries were all Ken, Davis, and Yolei needed to hear as they each tried to crawl away to get to cover. That was of course when they could find cover period.
Ken saw Davis misally crawling along the ground holding his right side. Ken didn't need a degree in medicine to realize Davis more than likely had some of his ribs fractured if not outright broken. The guilt and horror he felt at that moment exceeded the pain his body was in. The snakes leaped at his legs biting and wrapping around them until he felt like both of them would break off.
"KEN!" came Yolei's voice followed by her approaching footsteps.
"No Yolei!" The blue haired youth shouted back. "Stay back! No matter what happens to me get Davis out of here!"
"Are you crazy!" Came their leader's voice. "Ken we're not going to leave you here!"
"Damn it Davis don't you get it!? This is my fault!" Ken screamed banging his fist into the wet ground. "All of this! The reason your parents are in the hospital! The reason Yolei's going to lose her family! All of it is my fault!" The genius continued banging his hands against the ground as tears welled up in his eyes. "GOD DAMN IT! Is this how it ends for us! Because I'm not strong enough to…damn it! Damnit! What happened to it!? What happened to all that power and intelligence I had when I was the Digimon Emperor! Where is now that I need it!? If not for its close proximity Ken never would have noticed the miniature earthquake. Looking up he saw one of the LithoRosemon holding up a kicking Yolei by the throat. Ken saw the accursed Digimon pull back its mace for a swing that would have literally split her in half. He wasn't sure where it came from but the force in his rising voice, "STOP!"
It was like a trumpet had sounded halting nearly every aspect of moment. The LithoRosemon dropped Yolei before turning to him. More of them gathered in front of Ken, their expressions unreadable.
Then they all bowed to him.
"At last, after so many eons of waiting our lord has finally returned to us." Came a deep, booming voice that sent a shiver down Ken's spine.
Making way for the newcomer Ken had to admit this newest arrival was far more threatening than any of the LithoRosemon. His demonic armor was a blood red color that jetted out in all sorts of odd angles, said armor deeply resembled that of a medieval knight by the way. Like Sthanomon his face was obscured by a helmet, one far more demonic and inhuman looked than his. The more Ken looked the more he realized it resembled a human skull with a pair of demon horns curling upward. Like the others he too bowed, and like them due to his eight foot-three stature he still towered over Ken.
Looking up Ken saw the scarlet red eyes of a killer staring at him with such admiration he wanted nothing more than to run. "Your valient servant, Gadreelmon, has awaits your command."
Name: Gadreelmon
Level: Mega
Attribute: Virus
Description: Look no further for an example of how far a knight can follow and how great an example of loyalty they can be. Once Gadreelmon was a holy warrior who served the good of the Digital World with honor and compassion. Unfortunately the day he pleaged himself to serve Lucemon is the day his fate was sealed. So great was his admiration of him that he willingly cast off his wings when Lucemon fell from grace. Now he wields the demonic sword "Solanum" in the service of the Demon Lord. Like Lucemon he uses dark light in the form of his Infernal Quasar and Glorious Fervor attacks, both of which won't even leave behind ashes to be scattered. Galdreelmon has mastered a two deadly sword techniques named Death cry of the North Story and Victory Song of the August Star, both being some of the strongest sword attacks in the Digital World.
Ken didn't know exactly what to do now that he had the demonic horde under control. Telling them to take a hike wasn't possible nor was it wise. He didn't need to think long about what to do as a purplish blue light building to his right caught his attention.
Sthanomon had placed both his hands together and was now holding a charged mass of electricity he aimed directly at him. "Blue Inferno!" He called letting the blast fly.
"Protect our lord!" Gadreelmon shouted moving to intercept with his sword. The six foot long bastard sword withstood the intense lightning blast. Once the attack was finished Gadreelmon regarded Sthanomon like he was the scum of the earth. "You dare attempt to strike the ruler of the Digital World? I will have your head Sthanomon! Infernal Quasar!" Two jet black masses of plasma formed in Gadreelmon's hands the he threw them directly at his opponent. The twin orbs tore the ground apart in their path towards Sthanomon who tried to dodge them only to find they had a homing effect.
BOOM!
"Now my lord," Gadreelmon said turning to Ken. "Let us-"
"V-Laser!"
"Stinging Strike!"
"Gold Rush!"
Gadreelmon's face remained blank as all three of the attacks made impact. When the dust cleared there wasn't a scratch on him. "It seems I'm going to be spending the note squashing insects." He stated hosting Solanum up. "Now this worms, for what you have just done you're sealed your fates. Have you any last words?"
ExVeemon looked between Stingmon and Digmon. He turned his head to see Noriko and Cody tending to Davis, Ken, and Yolei with Shurimon and Grizzlymon watching their backs. Feeling the anger in his body reaching a boiling point he gave Gadreelmon the human gesture he knew stood for the ultimate form of disrespect. "Yeah Sir Skull-Face, eat me!" With that he led his comrades in a three man charge against the demonic knight.
Snorting Gadreelmon gripped his sword with both hands and met their charge. "Your funerals!"
Sorry for not updating in a while guys! I had to tend to some personal matters as well as do a little story revision. Hopefully in the next few chapters those revisions will pan out to everyone's liking. Until next time, when the demons vs. Lovecraft monsters vs. DigiDestined battle royale reaches a critical climax!
