Chapter Twenty Nine- Back Home
As Connor and Abby returned to the flat they shared with Jess, Becker and Jess could hear them bickering as they opened the door and walked up the stairs to the living room.
"I still don't get how you could have thought those costumes were real creatures, Connor!"
"Just caught a glimpse of 'em, didn't I!" Connor retorted. "Don't keep on about it- no harm done yeah!"
"Yeah, but honestly Connor- for a genius, you can be a right idiot sometimes!"
"It was a simple mistake anyone could have made. You said yourself they were good costumes. And the kids were roaring..." Connor raised his hand in a claw shape and made a 'rawww' sound.
"Good, yes- but not that good! What were you thinking!"
"Look, I'm not gonna talk about it anymore. I'm going to get changed!" Connor stomped off into the bedroom, nodding at Becker and Jess as he went, who were looking at him with confused expressions.
"What's he done this time?" Becker turned to ask Abby, a slightly amused look on his face.
"Never mind- just being Connor- you know!" Abby replied. "How are you, Becker?"
"I'm good." Becker replied nodding." Do you think Connor will be long- I need to talk to him?"
"Oh- well, I'll go and see what he's up to now- make sure he's not shooting the lampshade or anything!"
"What?" Becker and Jess looked even more confused as Abby joined Connor in their room.
Jess shook her head, smiling. "Poor, Connor! Always in trouble, isn't he!"
"Always been a walking disaster!" Becker announced.
"Becker! Don't be mean. He means well, he can't help being a little... "
"Idiotic!"
They both laughed and Jess pretended to look cross. "Hilary Becker! That's no way to talk about your friend. One of your best friends as well! He's perfectly adorable just as he is, and I for one don't want him to change. He is a genius, you know. They're often a little eccentric. "
Becker pursed his lips and looked closely into Jess' eyes. "I feel..."
"What?" she whispered, feeling little chills beginning to run up and down her spine at his intense look.
"... a little jealous!" Becker finished. "Connor's adorable, is he!"
"Well he is- in a cute puppy like way. Not like you..."
"Yeah?"
Becker moved closer still, and trailed little kisses from the palm of one of Jess' hands, up her arm, finally coming to stop at the little hollow in her neck, where he remained just nuzzling and teasing her with his lips.
"Yeah!" Jess tried to say, but her voice caught in her throat as Becker suddenly began moving his lips nearer her mouth, and she couldn't wait another minute before turning her head to place her lips on his. Becker pulled away slightly and grinned at her evilly, before grabbing the back of her head and pulling her closer, devouring her lips with his own, grinning as she groaned his name against his mouth.
"Not like me? What am I like?"
Jess sighed as his lips separated from hers and she began to miss the feel of them against hers. "You're adorable too, in a more... sexy way." she said, blushing as she realised what she'd just said. "Not that Connor's not sexy- because he is, but I feel a more sisterly love for him... well, when I say love- I don't mean... "
"Sexy, eh! I like the sound of that!' Becker interrupted.
"Oh yes! And handsome. Of course Connor's..."
"Never mind about him- tell me more what you like about me! I'm sexy and handsome..."
"Hilary Becker- you're just fishing for compliments!" Becker grinned and raised his eyebrows at Jess. "And you're kind... " she added kissing his cheek.
"And caring... " she continued kissing his neck.
"And in peak physical condition- so strong! So muscly!" she stated, her voice muffled as she buried her face into Becker's chest.
"And... "
"And what?" Becker asked, pulling Jess' head back by her pony tail so that she was staring into his eyes.
"And you have lovely hair!" Jess managed to squeak, before Becker gathered her in his arms, flipped her over until he was on top of her, and captured her lips once more.
"Love you Jess Parker!" he said, his voice thick with desire.
"Love you too... " she managed to say before everything around her became a blur and she had only one coherent thought left- how much she loved him. As he took control of her senses and body, she breathed his name once more, and gave herself fully to the man she loved…
~~oOOo~~
Connor was in the shower when Abby went into their bedroom. She felt a little guilty- she'd been going on and on about the incident, but he did make her despair sometimes. Still, his 'dorkiness' was what first attracted her to him- the fact he usually got himself into some sort of mishap or trouble! It never failed to make her smile- he was so well meaning and likeable- everybody loved him- even Lester. Well, he never actually said so, but she just knew he did.
"Connor?" she called. "I'm sorry. I won't mention it again, I promise!"
Just at that moment, Connor came out of the shower, dressed only in a very small towel, rubbing his hair vigorously with another one. "Did you say something?"
"I said... never mind. You er... you OK?" she said instead, finding it difficult to concentrate with that little towel taunting her senses. The fact that his skin was still glistening with water didn't help either.
"Of course. I'm fine. Just feel a bit... stupid, don't I. I'm such a fool!"
"Sshhh! No, no you're not. Well, maybe sometimes- just a little one!" Abby put her finger on Connor's lips, and traced their shape with her fingers, sending tingles into the pit of his stomach.
They stared into each other's eyes for a long moment before Connor broke the gaze, feeling a little chilled from the shower. He glanced down at himself.
"I'd better get dressed." he announced.
"What's the point?" Abby asked.
"What... what do you mean?" Connor managed to stammer, as Abby's fingers trailed down from his lips to the point where her fingers reached the towel.
"You're only going to have to take them off again!"
"Wha?... Oh!"
With one sweep of her hand, Abby whipped the towel away from around Connor's waist. He took a quick intake of breath as she looked at him appreciatively.
"Hold on!" he complained. "You have the advantage over me!"
"Yeah- that's the way I like it!" she smirked.
"No fair! Let's even things up a little." With that Connor made a grab at Abby and roughly ripped her top off as he backed her up against the bedroom wall. "Hmmm. Much better." he approved, nuzzling her.
"Could be better if I just..." Abby cast the rest of her clothes off. "Now we're even!"
"Just the way I like it!" Connor growled as he lifted her off her feet and carried her to their bed...
Abby squealed as his cold body wrapped around hers. The best thing about squabbling with Connor was the making up... oh yes, she loved the making up...
~~oOOo~~
Sometime later, Abby suddenly sat up in the bed she and Connor were sharing, the duvet wrapped around her naked body. "I completely forgot! Becker wanted to talk to you! Oops. That was ages ago!"
"Oh well." Connor said, his voice still muzzy from sleep. "He can wait a few more minutes then..."
Connor moved as close to Abby as he could, pulling at the duvet. Abby giggled girlishly, holding tight onto the covers.
"Connor! You'd better go see what he wanted."
"In a bit. I just wanna... ah! That's better!" he announced proudly as he finally wrestled the duvet from Abby's hands and she lay there for him to admire.
"It's cold!" she complained.
"Yeah, I can see that." he laughed, looking at her exposed chest. "Let me fix that..."
He pulled her to him and the heat from his body warmed her and she felt the familiar stirring of desire suffuse her again. Tickling and teasing each other like two school children, Connor pulled the duvet back over both of them once again.
"Becker can wait!"
"Oh yes." Abby agreed. "He can wait..."
~~oOOo~~
Becker hadn't actually noticed how long Abby and Connor had been gone. He was curled up on the sofa in his own duvet, a little squashed if he was honest, but he didn't want to move. The object causing his slight discomfort was squeezed right up against him, partly on top of him, and partly on the edge of the settee. He looked at Jess as she slept, her long lashes fluttering gently. He stroked her cheek absently with his thumb as he tried to shift without waking her. His tablets had long since worn off, and although his wound was much better, the position they were lying in wasn't helping. As he shifted, trying to ease the pressure on his wound, Jess suddenly awoke and turned, not realising her precarious position on the couch, and toppled over the edge. Becker tried to save her, but she landed with a surprised 'Oof!.'
"You OK, Jess?" Becker said, concerned.
"Yes- I'm fine. What happened? Where am... Oh yes- the settee." She sat up scrubbing at her face to awake fully, and slowly stood up and stretched. Becker enjoyed the show, Jess was dressed only in her pajama top, and her stretch accentuated the shape of her curves.
"Coffee?" she asked.
"Sure. Oh- and some more painkillers, please."
"You OK?"
"Fine... more than fine." he assured her, smiling at her concerned face, and kissing her gently on the lips.
"OK- coffee and painkillers it is!"
As Jess started to potter around the kitchen, Abby and Connor finally joined Becker in the living room.
"Sorry." Connor said. "Hard day. Fell asleep." He couldn't help but glance at Abby lovingly as he said the words, and Becker smiled silently to himself.
"Did you manage to find out what Leeds was doing?" Becker asked.
As Abby joined Jess, helping her make the coffee and snacks, Connor pulled his laptop to him, and began to research into Becker's earlier query.
"Oh!" he said suddenly, sitting up straight, as the girls joined them.
"What? What was he was downloading? Have you found it?" Becker queried, moving closer to the laptop.
"Oh yes!" Connor replied. "I've found it alright! He copied the files containing information on New Dawn. I knew we should have deleted them all! He's got copies of everything!"
They all looked at each other in consternation. This was bad- in fact it could be disastrous. Becker decided it was time he went back to work. The Six were due to leave very soon now- he couldn't let Leeds take that information with him. He wouldn't let him take it with him! He'd stick very close to the man, and watch his every move, he'd know what to do when the time came, even if it meant going through the anomaly with them himself. His eyes met Connor's who looked as if he were about to cry. Poor Connor, he thought, this must seem like a never ending nightmare for him.
"Don't worry." he told them all. "I'll take care of everything. Leave it to me! It will be alright!"
He hoped it would... he really hoped it would!...
