"Daddy and the Dragon"
...prompt: a sonnet-form poem to celebrate the feast of St. George...

Astride the sofa, clad in argent satin,
St. George and sword rose tall and full of might
To face the horrid, furious dragon,
And keep all tiny children safe at night.

One cheered, one gasped, as Mummy told the tale
Of fabled times and ancient beasts most foul.
While Daddy swung his sword and clashed his mail,
To play St. George and make the dragon howl.

Then, with whoosh! and whack!, he seemed to fall,
And both girls cried for his recovery.
So Mummy urged their help, however small,
With clap and laughter, bringing victory.

Kisses came; the toys were set away.
Though knight and beast would fight another day.
