Chapter 12: Why, Kids, WHY?!
Blake had come down from his shower in his day clothes and with wet hair. "I'm still alive!" he said as he walked into the living room.
"Blake!" Lia cheered. "I was trying to tell everyone you were okay. They didn't believe me! And I got you some pancakes for breakfast. I assume you're hungry."
"Yeah. Thanks Li," Blake said. He sat down on the couch and started eating the pancakes.
"And Lia made them herself," Chloe snickered. Lia just shot her a friendly-looking glare that said "I will murder you when you're asleep." Chloe smiled right back.
"Well, these taste great! Thanks for the food!" Blake said. Lia smiled and blushed a little from the compliment. Blake got up to go to the kitchen to put his plate away. Lia followed him and put the leftover food away.
~Back in the living room~
Chloe, Vicky, Makoto, and Parker all sat in the living room. The speaker system played music in the background. A song three of the four kids in the room played in concert band turned on.
"Can't you see what's happening?" Chloe asked.
"What?" Vicky and Parker replied.
"And they haven't got a clue!" Makoto sighed.
"Who?" Vicky replied again, confused.
"They fall in love and here's the bottom line," Chloe sighed.
"Our groups are each down a few," Makoto finished.
"Oh," Parker flatly replied to Makoto. He was beginning to understand.
"The sweet caress of twilight," Makoto sang.
"There's magic everywhere," Chloe said back. She wove her wand around. Little sparkles followed behind it.
"And with all this romantic atmosphere, disaster's in the air!" Makoto and Chloe both sang.
The two American siblings looked at each other.
"Were gonna end up singing, too, huh?" Parker asked.
"Most likely," Vicky responded.
"Bring it on," Parker smirked. Vicky laughed at her brother.
Lia and Blake sighed from the kitchen.
"Why are they referencing Disney movies?" Lia asked. Blake just shrugged and kept washing the dishes.
~Many shenanigans later~
"So, what can we do to get them together?" Vicky asked.
"I say we call in Rachelle and Sarah. They probably have an idea or two up their sleeves," Makoto jumped in. "Plus, they probably know Lia better than any of us. They did go to elementary school with her."
"Alright. I'll call 'em up," Parker told the others while getting out his phone. "You forgot I went to elementary school with Lia too."
"You two are more like rivals, though. That's probably not gonna help us," Vicky sighed.
"We were friends for a little bit," Parker sighed back as he dialed Sarah's number.
"Hello?" Sarah asked.
"Yeah Sarah, it's me, Parker. We need you and Rachelle at England's place now to help us with something."
"Alright. We'll be there soon. We were just going to leave the hotel," Sarah replied.
"Mkay. Bye." Parker hung up.
"Alright. Someone call everyone else too. We all need to be here for this to work," Chloe said.
~Later, when everyone had showed up~
"I'll head this operation!" Chloe said. The group had transferred into the upstairs screening room, with Chloe standing in the front behind a podium.
"Since when did you become the leader of this operation?" Vicky asked Chloe.
"Just now," Chloe said. "This operation is to be called HetaShipping!"
"Oh god. This'll be great," Parker sighed sarcastically.
"Oui. I agree, Parker," Sarah said. "Especially because a Brit named it and is the leader, and it's some lame spin off of an anime name. You're so creative, Chloe."
"Oh, sod off, you damn frog," Chloe grumbled.
"I agree with Parker et Sarah. This is a lame operation name and you shouldn't be leading it," Rachelle piped up.
"Well then, who should?"
"Me and Sarah." Rachelle took the paper Chloe was holding and tore it in two. "Let the French take the lead. This is romance, after all. Silvia can help."
"WHY ME, YOU SONS OF A BITCH?!" Silvia yelled.
"Your Italian. Italians are good at this stuff too," Sarah told her.
"AW FUCK NO! Lo vado a sparare morto proprio ora!" Silvia scowled, pulling out her gun.
"Hold up!" Mikayla and Vicky interjected. "No violence!"
"I have to say," Heike said. "You're all acting like idiots. We will do it the German way."
"Non!" "Nyet!" "Nu-uh!" Several voices yelled. Arguments just broke out across the room. Chloe and Silvia had tackled Sarah and Rachelle and Alex was trying to get them off the two French girls. Makoto and Linyang were just talking about how immature everyone was being. Parker was yelling at some of the others including Mikayla, Penelope, and Iryna about how he should be the leader because he's American.
"Um...are you guys going to get anything done?" a male voice asked from the doorway. "Or will this be like the old World Meetings?"
"Yeah," a female voice took over. "Today, preferably. Or are we gonna have to interrupt? ...Oh wait, we already did," the female voice giggled.
The others turned around to see Blake and Lia in the doorway, laughing.
"H-how… How l-long have you two been there?" Chloe asked, looking away from her fight with Rachelle and Sarah. Her face was filled with shock and pure horror.
"About the whole hour," Blake smirked. "Remember, Brits have magical powers. And so do Canadians."[VD]
"We're not surprised you've been trying to set us up," Lia smiled. "I could do better by myself. And I have." She smirked at her final sentence.
"What do you mean?" Mikayla asked. "You two are still friends, aren't you?"
"Yeah! The only way you would ask him out was by one of us daring you or zapping you!" Penelope added.
"You guys underestimate me~" Lia chirped. "I'm part French, Canadian, and Italian. I could do better. I just choose to let the relationship form naturally."
"Lia and I didn't do this when some of you guys hooked up," Blake continued. "So why us?"[VD]
"Because you belong together!" several girls yelled.
"And I can't say that about Parker and Sarah? Or Alex and my sister?" Blake yelled.[VD] He then closed out of the shipping slideshow and deleted it without moving at all. "Magic." Blake then came into the room and sat down.
"There is something else I've been thinking about recently," Blake continued. "It's something surrounding our families."
Most of the kids gave Blake a "what-the-fuck-is-going-on-in-the-back-of-your-head" look, but some understood.
"Well, don't we also have to deal with the damn 2ps too, Blake?" Lia said, still remaining in the doorway. She pulled on her blue bandana. "I mean, we have that as well."
"That would get a bit complicated because even the nations don't know the true relation between the 1ps and 2ps biologically. We'll just go with what we know."
"That's not what I meant you, idiot."
"And if we're talking about fighting them, do you have any news or anything? We'll all be able to go in the gym later." Blake said.
"Whatever." Lia said.
"So basically, you wanna do a family tree?" Mikayla said.
"Yup," Blake replied.
"That'll be hard," Makoto said. "Hope you studied your history."
"Yeah. Good luck with that," Linyang told the others. "I'm going to go do something productive."
"Western nations are so immature!" China yelled from downstairs. "Eastern nations, come down here!"
"Yessir!" Makoto called back, running downstairs following Linyang.
~Later~
"No! You are not my uncle! Fuck you, Blake!" Parker yelled. "I'm freaking older than you!"
"Parker, that's obvious," Blake sighed. "But as England is America's adoptive dad/brother and my dad, I'm brothers with your father. Because of that, I'm your uncle!" He paused, and then directed his attention to the other North Americans. "That applies to you as well, Vicky and Lia. Chloe and I may be younger than both of you, but there's no denying the family tree."
"Well then, what about the fact that Prussia and England are both Germanic! So they're related! And Prussia is older!" Lia vouched. "That would mean I'm also your cousin!"
"Well, Lia...Your case is a little odd," Blake sighed. "Because of all that craziness, you are my cousin, but also my niece. So...I'm superior." He laughed.
"Also, France, the Italies, and Spain are all brothers," Lia said. "Which makes things even more complicated. That means I'm...cousins...with the Bonnefoy kids…and they're my aunts through Canada...Fuck."
"Let the reality sink in!" Chloe smirked. "Either way, you guys should feel sorry for us Kirklands. We have, like, ten other siblings, if I'm correct!"
"No," Lia growled. "You're wrong, Chloe. Scotland, Wales, Ireland, North Ireland, and Sealand are England's bros. Not yours. And if I can quote America, 'I am no longer your little brother!'"
Blake decided to jump back in. "The others count America and Canada as sons of England, and neither of them has said anything about that title. Let's call it six. The two North Americans, Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, and Seychelles."
"I'm so confused!" Mikayla yelled. Several of the other kids had just defaulted to their phones for entertainment.
Blake just snapped his fingers. Within three seconds, a whole family tree was created on his laptop, which he had magically transported to the room and hooked up. A whole bunch of weird relations were seen, and all of the children in the room were looking up at the board.
"So...yeah," Blake sighed. "I'm brothers with six nations (well, five nations and one territory, but whatever) and a nephew of all the Germanics. And I have a ton of uncles...the Germanic nations and the other older Kirklands."
"Holy shit!" Parker responded. "I have a crap-ton of uncles too!"
"We all do, Parker," Iryna said, finally speaking up. "It just happens that way."
At this moment the nations walked into the meeting room. "What is going on here?" England, America, and Germany asked simultaneously. They then saw the family tree, along with the rest of the nations and the Eastern children.
"You know," Alex said, "you guys are a really incestuous bunch!" This comment caused laughter amongst nations and children alike. Out of all people who said it, it was the Beilschmidt, the one who's supposed to be the no-nonsense type.
Lia just responded with "You're part of this group too, you ass."
Most of the nations laughed, but Germany didn't show much emotion. He was annoyed, if anything. "Whatever," he sighed as everyone took the same seats as the day before.
Germany briefly stood up. "We have a shorter meeting today, again directed by England. Please give him the respect he deserves. Thank you."
As Germany sat down, England came to the front of the room.
"God, kids, someone take this off the main screen," England sighed. Blake saved the document and then put the meeting's slide show up. "Devices away, please! I need your undivided attention!" Some of the kids fumbled with their devices while putting them away, while others tried to hide them as they were playing. "Don't hide them. I know what's going on." With this, the defiant children put their phones away.
"Thank you," England said after a few moments. "Just like the second meeting in Venice, this is just a brief thing for us parents and you children. First, I want to let you all know that you are probably being watched. This may sound creepy, but the 2ps have a large surveillance system. We've been cracking down on the system, though, so we'll keep you all updated.
"Secondly, you children are now permitted to go into most areas of the gyms beneath the houses. These areas include many different types of weapons. You'll probably find yourself sticking to one main side room. Remember also that the 2ps aren't afraid to declare war without warning, so stay alert and make sure to work out a lot.
"I also want to remind you to be aware of your surroundings. Just make sure that no 2ps are around or anything like that. We've been seeing them a bit more as of late.
"That's really all I need to say today. Dismissed." England sighed as he finished, praying for everyone's safety. Within a few minutes, the group split up into two smaller contingents. The nations went downstairs, while the children stayed upstairs.
~With the nations~
"DUUUUUUUDDDDDDEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEENNNNGGGLLLLLLAAAANNNNDDDD!" America sighed. "That meeting was so fucking lame."
"The awesome me must agree," Prussia added. "I'm a poet and I didn't know it! Kesesesesesese~"
"Do you want the kids to be unsafe?" England asked rhetorically. "We needed to just remind them of a few things. I know it's a lot, but I know that they can handle it. Just relax."
England then went into the kitchen to grab something. He came back with four bottles of Newcastle Brown Ale - one for America, one for Germany, one for Prussia, and one for himself.
"Do you really wanna get yourself drunk, England?" Germany sighed.
"Oui. Have some wine, Britain~" France said from the other side of the room.
England reluctantly put the bottle back in the fridge. "Hope you guys won't mind me being drunk over dinner."
"Italy, is everything okay?" Germany asked, suddenly looking at his friend. "You seem...nervous."
Italy nodded. "How will these kids cope? They're teenagers, not superheroes! And..." Italy trailed off mumbling.
"What was that?" Japan asked.
"Nothing, Japan. Just some old memories. Nothing important." Italy sighed.
"It's okay to tell whatever it is to us," America said. "We won't be mad. Just be honest."
Italy sighed and then spoke up. "Well, I was just wondering how Monica is. And what Melody and Leo and Dani and Axel are up to. It has been quite a while since they left, after all. Not much else."
"I'm sure they're fine. They just needed to be stronger. They'll be back. I promise, Fratello," Romano reassured his brother.
"Sí. They will be," Spain cheered. "And they'll be stronger than ever."
"It seems awfully quiet up there. I wonder what happened?" New Zealand asked.
"Yeah. Maybe the kids are all on their phones," Canada chuckled.
"Or maybe they're all asleep," Greece said, being awfully sleepy himself. He pet one of cats that he had with him.
"Aiya! I wouldn't be surprised if they were all doing something else, aru~" China spoke up.
"Da. I bet they're all on their devices," Russia said, smiling. He took a swig of vodka from the bottle in his hand.
"I'm gonna go check on them. Anyone want to come with me?" America asked. "Even though I know they won't be sleeping this early, we haven't even had lunch yet…"
"I'll come," Italy said. He got up and moved towards the door. "Alrighty~ Let's go!" Italy and America left the room.
"Gott. I'm worried about Italy," Germany sighed. "He's acting stranger than usual. It's not normal for him to be this sad and upset all the time."
"Hai. Italy-kun is acting strange," Japan replied. "But I'm sure he'll be fine, Germany-san. Just give him some time. A lot has happened recently."
~With the children~
"As if our lives weren't messed up enough," Blake sighed. "Now I, a complete fatass, have to fight countless others and save the world. How the hell do I stand a chance?"
Blake swore he heard a voice in his head whispering "You don't. Just give up now." He didn't tell anyone, though. Blake then snapped his fingers, causing the 2p Cam to appear.
"Better," he said as he walked over. Many others followed, some with inquisitive faces.
Lia decided to jump in. "It's a surveillance camera for spying on the 2ps," she said, smiling. "Blake wired it so that we can see the 2ps, but they can't see us at all. It gives us a leg up before the Day comes. And Blakey, you're not a fatass. You're just fluffy!" Lia patted his back. Blake just facetabled.
Chloe hooked the camera up to the large TV in the room - to be exact, an 85-inch Samsung TV. The camera display was crystal-clear and in full color. A picture was shown, and a few people stood there. Their mouths moved with words, causing Blake to turn the audio on in the 1p realm. Makoto then closed the door to the soundproofed viewing room.
A teenager with reddish-brown hair was talking at the moment. He seemed to be talking to a dirty-blonde-haired girl with purplish-red eyes.
"Hey, babe," the boy said, grinning maliciously. The boy was also shown to have red eyes. The girl remained silent.
"You're not mute, Lilo," the boy sighed. "What's going on?"
"Nothing. You know I don't like to talk much, Brad," Lilo replied. She turned away from him.
As the 1p children looked on, Blake was experiencing the most trauma. He was shaking, realizing that he was seeing his 2p. And not only was it his 2p, but his 2p was flirting with Lia's 2p. Lia stood in shock as well.
Suddenly, a smashing noise was heard from another area of the house in the 2p Cam, which seemed to be upstairs. Blake switched the camera to the music room to see a smashed guitar and an extremely tall blonde teen with a piece of the guitar in his hand. Parker laughed, knowing that it was obviously his 2p that had done such an act.
A split second later, a man dressed in pink with strawberry-blonde hair teleported into the room and fixed the guitar. He laughed, saying, "Watch yourself, Preston!"
Unbeknownst to the children, America was standing in the doorway. They realized this when they heard an extremely loud voice behind them, questioning "What the hell is going on up here?"
Most children made double-takes as they looked behind them. Makoto was the first to speak up, responding, "We were watching the 2ps. We wanted to see how they acted so we'd be prepared. Plus, it's an awesome form of reality TV."
"Why were you watching them? That's not safe!" Italy yelled, running into the room and closing the computer.
"God, Papa. We were just looking. No harm done," Lia sighed. "The computer's totally protected, and the 2ps don't know we're doing this."
"But you can never be too safe!" Italy continued. "Luddy! Up here quick!" he called down the stairs.
Blake nodded. "Germany should check on this. But if everything's safe, Italy, can we keep going?"
Italy nodded back. "Just wanting to check with Mister Security-Man."
Germany dashed into the room. "What is the matter, Feli?"
Italy pointed to the screen, and America spoke for him. "The kids figured out a way to spy on the 2ps last night, but he's just worried it's unsafe, even though Blake took tons of measures to make sure it was safe."
Germany went over to the camera, which was now hooked up to Blake's MacBook. The laptop showed all of the settings.
"This is fine. Nothing to worry about," Germany finally said after four minutes of silence. "As long as they know their boundaries, the kids are fine."
Blake put the display back up to show the 2p children at a lunch table. They all seemed to be punching each other and laughing about something.
"Mason, what has gotten into you today?" a brunette asked at the Japanese boy.
"Everything's perfectly normal with me, Hannah," Mason sighed back. "Your brother over there seems to be acting a little strange, though," he finished, pointing at another boy who was clearly Alex's 2p.
Alex's 2p was staring into space and bouncing in his seat, unlike his normal lazy self. Bradley caught his attention by snatching his plate, which was filled with bratwursts and potatoes.
"I'm just getting this feeling we're being watched and I feel jumpy," the boy said. "Now give my food back, fucksack." He stretched his hand out.
Bradley did so, chuckling. "We're not being watched," he told his friend. "And even if we were, do you still think they stand a chance against us? We know much more about them than they do about us."
"Are you sure? That might be what the government wants you to think," a blonde in a yellow sun dress said from the corner of the table. "It could all be an illusion."
"Shut your face, Gene!" Courtney, another brunette, yelled and punched Gene's face. It was clear that Gene was Vicky's 2p and that Courtney was Chloe's. Chloe looked on, facepalming and laughing. Vicky did the same.
At this point, England came into the viewing room. "Well, what do we have here?"
"It was Blake's idea!" several kids yelled and pointed to Blake.
"Dad, it's the 2p Cam. Remember, they can't see us," Blake told his father. "Plus, it's funny to watch them."
England sat down to watch. "I can tell. Permission to watch granted."
If he said anything further, the comments were drowned out by a small man yelling "If that jerk of all jerks 1p is watching, he will be dead in sixty seconds!"
"By the way, he's not a nation," England laughed. "And he can't know I'm watching anyway. Silly Paul."
"Who?" many asked.
"Sealand's 2p," America answered.
"EVERYONE UPSTAIRS, LUNCH IS SERVED!" Romano, China, Prussia, and many others downstairs yelled.
Lia ran out of the room quickly, as if she was running for her life. "FREEEEEE FOOOOOOOD!" she yelled as she ran down the stairs. The others followed her.
"About time," Blake said to Chloe. "Let's hope my dad didn't cook anything."
"No, I didn't!" England yelled out to his children, who laughed all the way outside.
