Chapter 29
The one before 30
The soldiers surrounded the team. Virginia was struck with a split second of fear then she reached for her gun. Before she had the chance to grab it, the other team members threw up their hands in surrender.
"What are you doing?" Virginia whispered to Arizona, panicked.
"Do you want to get shot?" He responded. "Put your hands up." Virginia slowly raised her hands.
"Take them to the basement." One of the soldiers shouted. "And make sure they're unarmed."
After being stripped of all their weapons, the team was escorted toward the factory. They walked up to the side of the building to what looked like a tornado shelter. The soldiers opened the doors and forced them inside, locking it behind them. The place was almost completely dark, a single light bulb in the middle of the room kept a small bit of illumination. The room was mostly filled with junk. Boxes, wires, scrap bits of metal, some papers scattered on the floor.
"Why did we just let them do that?" Virginia asked irritated as soon as the doors closed.
"Look where we are." Arizona said. "They took us right underneath the factory." Virginia suddenly felt stupid. Of course, it was just an easy way to get closer to the building. But wait, they were locked in the basement.
"How are we supposed to investigate the factory if we're locked in here?" Virginia asked. Arizona turned to Jersey.
"Jersey, you're up." He said. Jersey walked to the basement door and put his hand on it. Suddenly, he vanished! Jersey was all of a sudden no longer in the basement with them. A series of clicks and unlocking sounds were heard from the other side of the doors and they opened, Jersey on the other side.
"Wha- what just happened?" Virginia asked awe-struck. Alaska laughed.
"You asked what he does, didn't you? We'll that's one thing." She walked out followed by Virginia and Arizona. "So where do we go from here?" She asked Arizona.
"Well.. I'd say we might want to go inside. Except we know nothing about the building and a stealthy search would be near impossible like that."
"I can figure something out, there's probably some electronics that come outside. Omicron might be able to map out a very basic outline of the building's structure."
"Great idea, Alaska. You take Virginia with you. Jersey, I want you to get up to the roof, don't get caught. I'm going to check for security cameras outside, we need to make sure we aren't spotted or the whole building will be on us."
"Alright noobie," said Alaska to Virginia. "you're with me."
Virginia followed Alaska to the back of the building. There were some basic electrical gauges and wires heading into a small generator.
"Crap," said Alaska. "this isn't gonna give us much. Maybe an electrical circuit for all the lights in the building but we'll have to figure the rest out for ourselves." Alaska approached the panel on the generator and a small blue person appeared. It looked like he had glasses and short blue hair, and he was holding what looked like a pretty large book, at least to scale with his size. Virginia recognized that the figure must be Alaska's A.I. What had she called it? Omicron? After a few seconds Omicron disappeared.
"Okay," Alaska said through her radio. "I'm sending all of you a basic circuit of the building. Looks like the factory floor is about three up, and there's a ton of other rooms throughout the rest of the building. Also, there's what could be a server room on the first floor. The ceiling and floor look pretty thick though, so no blasting through them."
"Okay I'll head for the server room" Said Arizona over the radio. "You two get up to the factory floor if you can. Snap pictures then leave, don't alert anyone. Sync."
"Sync."
