Chapter 29:
Sleeping Beauty

...

...

Now that Bowser had rejoined the group, Mario and Luigi were able to proceed on with their adventure. Thanks to the Koopa King's fire breath, they were able to light the torches along the way, no longer needing to walk in the dark, much to Luigi's relief. Soon enough, they came across another dorguy, who also asked them for a quick test.

Dorguy the Second's test was a bit harder than Dorguy the First. His test required them to look at a screen with different color shapes that where constantly moving. Bowser had gotten quickly confused, leaving Mario and Luigi to figure it out themselves. Mario had gotten confused at least one or two times, accidently counting shapes twice. Luigi, on the other hand, was able to answer the questions accurately and got a perfect score as a result of it.

"Humph, looks like we got a smart one in the group," Bowser said.

They had just walked through Dorguy the Second and found themselves at another cross point with two doors. One of them was locked and required a key to get through. The other wasn't locked and was colored pink with heart shapes on it.

Luigi glanced over to Bowser, curious on what he meant. Bowser moved forward and stepped in front of the green man's path. Mario noticed this and paused to look back at them.

"Bowser..." He warned but the large koopa just ignored him.

"What are you doing here anyways, Green 'Stache? I thought you went home."

"I don't know." Luigi replies. "I just woke up here when Mario found me. I have no idea how I was sent here or why."

"Is that so?" Bowser said, not believe the green man for a second.

Mario stepped in and stood in between them. "He's right, Bowser. Luigi has amnesia; he can't remember what happened or who he was."

"Oh yeah? Well, how do you know he's not faking it? It will be an easy cover up for a spy."

"For the last time, Bowser, Luigi is not a spy!" Mario yelled. He then smirked. "In fact, he's actually our fourth hero."

"What!? That green weakling? But he's useless... How can they make him a hero?"

"The same way they can make you a hero," Mario took Luigi's hand and started leading him away. "Now come on, we have to keep going."

Mario and Luigi walked away, leaving a mumbling Bowser behind. Luvbi waited by the locked door while the others check behind the pink door for a key. Before they could enter, Luigi spoke up out of curious.

"Mario..."

"Yeah, Luigi?"

"What did Bowser mean I was a spy?"

Mario sighed, "Don't worry so much about him, Luigi. Bowser's just talking crazy." He smiled. "You're not a spy, trust me I know."

Luigi frowned, but say nothing more. Mario said that he wasn't a spy, but his memory told him otherwise.

Luigi stood before a woman as she assigned him on a new mission. This woman had pink hair and was dressed much like a secretary with glasses. The mission she was assigning was an important one that involved the heroes.

"Now for the assignment itself," The woman said, adjusting her glasses. "Your job, Luigi, is to go undercover as an innocent and befriend the heroes. You will travel with them, learn their secrets, their strength, their weakness, and report it all to Dimentio, who will be the one facing them in due time. Once you done all that, you may report back to the castle."

"Right" Luigi nodded.

"And one more thing," the woman said. "Make sure the heroes don't see you formulating with Dimentio or anyone of the others. In the case that Dimentio does fail to best them, we could use your cover once more to gain an upper hand."

"I understand."

Luigi didn't want Mario to bother with his little memory so he kept it to himself. But he was worried that Bowser may have been right about him being a spy.

The three entered through the pink door and found themselves in a room with three old hags. After performing a task for all three of them, they were awarded a key to the other door. They unlocked it and entered through only to be met with darkness once again.

Bowser lit a torch and the three of them were able to see a flight of stairs across from a large hole. There was a way across, some cliffs they could jump across, however it was too high for Mario and Bowser to reach.

"Great, now what do we do?" Bowser complained.

Mario smiled and turned to Luigi who knew what to do. Bowser scoffed when he saw the green man stepped forward. He didn't think Luigi could do anything. Of course his mouth flew down to the floor when he saw him use his Super Jump.

"Still think he's useless?" Mario said, smirking at the Koopa's disbelief expression.

"Great," Bowser growled. "Just what I needed, another jumping plumber"

With Luigi already up there, he was about to help hoist the others up with him. Mario was lifted first and the two worked together to pull up Bowser. Once all three of them were up, they made their way across the gaping hole. They were just about to make it across when Luigi misstep and started falling backwards.

Luigi cursed himself for being clumsy as he tries to sway his body into moving forward. Unfortunately for him, gravity was just too strong for him. He felt nothing but the empty air behind him; it almost like he was flying. Suddenly, he was just stopped. Something, or someone, was preventing him from falling to his death. Luigi opened his eyes, realizing he had closed them in the first place. Mario was holding on to him, making sure he doesn't fall into what he was certain to be his death bed.

"Weegie!" Mario strained. He was using all the strength he could mustard just to keep himself and Luigi from falling to their doom.

"Malleo," Luigi squeaked in fear. The pipe was too small to hold both of them and Luigi was afraid he might drag Mario down with him.

"Don't worry, I won't let you go." Mario said. His voice was firm and full of determination.
"Not now... not ever!"

Luigi broke out of his memory and realized that he wasn't falling. He looked up to see Mario holding on to him, just like he did before. Luigi gasped. He used all his strength to push himself forward and tackle the man in red in a hug.

Mario took two steps back in surprise and fell on his bottom with Luigi on top of him. Luigi looked back for a moment before turning back to Mario.

"Sorry Mario," He apologized.

"That's okay, Luigi," Mario said as they stood up.

They made it over to the flight of stairs and started climbing. There were large spike boulders falling down on them as they made their way up, but thanks to Mario's flip abilities they were able to avoid them easily.

Once they got to the top, they met up with another Dorguy who summons the Underchomp. The Underchomp was a three headed chain chomp creature who Mario, Bowser and Luigi must fight if they want to pass by him. Thanks to the Pixl Piccolo, the heroes were able to defeat the Underchomp without much of a problem and proceed on to the end of Underwhere Road.

...

...

Our heroes had found their way out of the dark and confusion of The Underwhere. Mario and friends now saw the sun shining brightly against a beautiful blue sky. This was the sky paradise Grambi called home, a place of joy called The Overthere. Somewhere above the never-ending layers of clouds waited Grambi himself. Mario and his friends began to make their way up that fluffy road to above...

"Ah me, blue skies again!" said Luvbi. "If we continue upward, we'll soon be in The Overthere. Let us away!"

"Yes," said Tippi. "That sounds well and good but we have yet to find Peach...I'm so worried."

"Yeah, me too." said Mario

"Yeah..." said Bowser "She's gotta be feeling lonely without her burly, awesome hubby at her side!"

"She's fine! I mean, she's Peach! She's gotta be fine, right?" said Luigi.

"Pray, I would understand this! Is yon Peach the lady friend of Mario?" Luvbi asked.

Mario, Luigi, Bowser jumped and shook their heads.

"Well...Um..." said Tippi.

Luigi notice the blush on his brother's face and decided to speak on his behave. "Erm, yeah... Kinda hard to say... but I wouldn't exactly call her his girlfriend."

"Hey, shut yon trap, Fluffy!" yelled Bowser "You're talking about the WIFE of Lord Bowser!"

"Oh, verily! But the damsel looms large in his regard, is this not so? A one-sided crush then, mayhap." Luvbi flew over to a cloud. "Ah me, enough idle blather! I shall run ahead. So keepest up if thou canst! If thou climbest too slowly the sun will set, so shaketh a leg!"

"Mario, look!"

Mario and the others look up ahead to see another of these strange fruit tree. But it wasn't the tree that got their attention. It was the person they saw leaning against it.

"Honh?! Is she..." said both Luigi and Bowser.

"It's Peach!" Tippi cried out, informing their suspecions.

"PEEEEEEEEACH!"

"Oh no! Peach!"

Mario and Co. ran over to her. The Mushroom Princess appears to be alright. In fact, she was asleep.

"Snoooooore..." Went the princess

"Princess Peach!" Luigi called out. "Hey! Hey! Wake up, Princess!"

"Snoooooore..." she went again.

"Oh, come ON! This is just plain annoying..." said Bowser. "GET UUUUUP!"

"Snoooooore..." She continues.

"Mmmm...Man, this girl can SLEEP, huh? I mean, that was a serious roar right there!"

"Ah me...Prithee, tell me... Princess Peach, I presume?" Luvbi appears and floats over to the princess. "She hath easten of the golden fruit. She lacketh the common sense, I fear."

"Golden...fruit?" Tippi asked.

"The Overthere teemeth with magical trees whose fruit maketh many an odd effect. The fruit of golden hue maketh people so satisfied, they falleth into deep sleep. And I mean DEEP sleep... The kind thou dost not wake up from for a hundred years..."

The others jumped in surprise.

"A hun-hundred years?!" Luigi stuttered.

"You're GOTTA be kidding!" said Bowser. "Look, I'm a patient koopa, but I'm not THAT patient!"

"Luvbi...Isn't there any way to wake her up sooner?" asked Tippi

"Pray, wherefore would I know of such..." She paused. "Ah, but hold a moment... I do remember my father's words of long ago. Yea, he said one tree in The Overthere bore a taboo fruit that could waketh anyone..."

"Taboo fruit? What kind of tree has that sort of thing?"

"Pray... Wherefore should I know, huh?!"

"So then all we know is that we need to find a kind of fruit... Marvelous."

"W-Well, we've gotta do SOMEthing!" Luigi suggested "Let's go find any kind of fruit we can!"

Bowser and Mario nodded in agreement.

"So, yon Princess Peach... All seem to holdeth her in regard most high..." Luvbi flew in the air. "Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmph! Do what thou wantest! I am NOT helping! I am SULKING!"

Luvbi flew away leaving the others to figure out a way to wake up their sleeping beauty. The three search around the area and found five different colored apples. They return to the tree Peach was sleeping against and try feeding her some.

First they tried was the blue apple; that one caused her to shrink. After that, they tried the yellow apple; that caused her to grow a mustache similar to Mario's. Next, they tried the red apple; that one caused her to grow to about the size of a tree. Then they tried the pink apple; that one transformed her into a peach...literally. Finally, they tried the black apple.

"Well, how about this one?" said Tippi "Please, let this be the taboo fruit..."

"Ohhhhh...Unnngggh..." Peach moaned.

"It looks as though she's waking up..."

"Unnnngggh...G-Grr-GROSS!" Peach screamed, causing everyone to jump back.

"Are you...all right?" Tippi asked her.

Peach stood up from the ground. "Ewwww, what WAS that?! What in the world did you just make me eat?!"

"It worked! Yahooooooooo!" Luigi cheered. "Princess Peach! You're awake!"

Princess Peach looks over and realized who was cheering. "Luigi?! You're safe and sound!"

"GRAAAAAAAAARGH! Hey! Concerned hubby over here, Princess Peach!"

She looks around. "Where in the world are we?" she asked. "And what was I doing here? I can't remember a thing..."

"We are in The Overthere, Princess Peach. Dimentio's attack sent you here..." Tippi explained.

"So, thou wakest?"

Princess Peach blinked and turned around. Luvbi stood behind her, looking as unhappy as she did before.

"I am Luvbi. I am bound for the Overthere and I take yon travelers with me."

Peach stepped towards her. "Is that so... Well, it's nice to meet you, Luvbi."

"I shall head onward, so dwadleth not! Hearth me, princess of silly peaches?"

Luvbi flew away leaving a confuse Peach behind. She frowned, "Oh, my. I wonder if I said something rude."

"Ugh, don't worry about it..." said Tippi.

"Oh, I must have caused you all so much trouble. I'm so sorry... but I'm happy to see you two again! I'll try to do my best to make up for the time lost!"

"Well, here we go! Up to the Overthere!"
