Part 42 Hostile takeover

General Hammond looked at his two top officers and reached for a bottle of Tums then Ibuprofen. He noted that there were now three babies under their care. He had listened as they explained about Loki's little accident this could only happen to SG-1 and Sam and Jack in particular.

He swallowed the tablets and took a drink from the bottle of water Colonel Carter gave him. He was just glad the president was working with them on this or it would be an even bigger mess then it was now. Of course none of this really was either officer's fault but it was annoying to see that both had shit eating grins on their faces. "So Colonel what does Lady Elizabeth and Lord Rupert think of this new development? I do hope they are still planning on keeping Loki."

"Yes sir they are. Though I have requested he pencil in some dates to baby sit for us as well." Jack said grinning."I mean we will probably need help now and again. Triplets was not exactly expected. Not to mention that Grace is over 20 hours younger than her siblings. I still cannot believe Loki forgot to clean the machine and that he left it running. Of course he still does not understand that cloning children like that was wrong."

"I see, so what punishment are your going to ask for?" General Hammond questioned.

"Well sir it's kind of hard to do that. I mean we are keeping the babies and they are all healthy. Then there the fact that we get to be a family now together, I for one am not really all that mad at him anymore. I mean his cloning these babies means the colonel and I can finally be together without the president objecting." Sam said grinning.

"Oh he did object Samantha until Lady Elizabeth told him that it was not fair to the children to not have both parents around. She then reminded him that they bought the gate. That the SWC had the final say on who got to use the gate and that staffing was now under their preview. She reminded him that they had no fraternization rules and that they really did not trust the USA or the military so if he wanted to keep using it then they might have to send civilians through. Civilians they vetted and approved of."

"So she threatened to cut of gate access for us so we could be a family?" Jack asked. "I thought she promised SG-1 and the other teams could still use the gate."

"They did however she suggested that the SWC might be happier if SG-1 and the other teams were all civilian teams. That by doing so they would not have to worry about the USAF transfer personal nor could the team members be ordering people to act in certain ways that may or may not be against the SWC plans and agenda's; she then pointed out if that happened anyone who wanted to be a couple could be as long as they followed the SWC rules and regulations. "George explained.

"She wants the teams to be loyal to the SGC and SWC without worrying about military loyalties. The president said that his the SGC military staff should not have to give up their careers to keep going through the gate and that civilians should not be in charge of protecting the world."

Sam looked at the general and said. "The president said that? What kind of idiot thinking is that? I mean we all saw the tapes. Buffy Summers and her people have been saving the world for longer then we have run the program. I am certain they are not military and that saying such a thing probably pissed them off."

"There is no probably about that." Jack said. "I may have spouted off to them but I can see they are battle worn now. I also saw Buffy and Faith Spar with our people. They are better at hand to hand them most of our team members civilian or not."

"Yes that is what Lady Elizabeth said. She also reminded the president that "Civilians" have been guarding the Hell's mouths for thousands of years most of that time without support, pay or any type of real lives and because of that she would now never deny any of those defending it a life. She then proceed to tell the president that career officers should not be forced to sacrifice their personal lives for the SGC program either. That said officers would have a place in her organization at pay rates at least equivalent to their military pay with double the amounts for hazard pay plus bonuses for years of service." Hammond explained. He saw Sam and Jack look at each other and smile. "Of course POTUS said certain officers were too valuable to be allowed to leave the USAF and others services as they are vital to the SG program. That discharges would not be forced nor would he want to accept retirement and or resignations easily that in fact the services might refuse to allow it. He suggested that many of our people could and would be found places elsewhere in the service. He seemed to believe that most of the SGC staff would choose to take such transfers rather than become civilians and stay here at the SGC."

"Well I am past due to retire."Jack said "The SWC sounds like they might be good people to work for. I could enjoy a change of pace plus no politics to deal with would be a real bonus. I am also certain that a lot of our teams would not be happy to be forced to move elsewhere nor would they appreciate being 'drafted' to do so."

"Well I have my 20 in to sir."Sam said. "There no real down side in retiring for me. I want to raise our children. I think I might enjoy researching the technology we find more too. So often I am forced to send what we find on to area 51 and that can be annoying as we later end up needing that research. Then there the fact that I have been offered work elsewhere at a higher rate of pay, however until now I had to stay with the program as an officer to keep having access to the technology I doubt the SWC would stop me from working on side projects. Willow and Daniel have a private software company that they run outside of their work for the SWC and Xander his own construction company. So staying in the military to do my job is not required anymore."

"I assumed you would both say that. I reminded the president that you both are eligible to retire and that if you did and still had a place here we that is the USAF would lose two valuable resources not to mention that Daniel was drooling over their library and it would take even less for him to perhaps move on. He would also have access to other research and be around at least one person who had died as often as himself so he might not feel so out of place. Teal'c loves the slayers and it looks like Rayac will be or is involved with their slayer Rona he would stay as that would then make them family. All of this of course did not make the president happy. He was not happy to make an exception to the rules but signed the orders hoping the teams will stay on and in the USAF." George explained. "He also hopes that we can use this fact to have better relations with the SWC as they take a very dim view on forced service."

"I can see that given that Slayers don't really have a choice."Sam said. "Did Buffy relent or are we still going to have to be civilians to stay on?"

"Lord Rupert agreed with the president about forcing people to choose over their military careers that being said however he also refused to have those serve here who don't wish to be. An agreement was worked out that will allow the USAF to keep using the gate as long as the new rules are in affect and as long as the military staff have a choice. Those that work here will also have the right to refuse transfers unless said transfer can be shown to be vital their countries safety and that no one staying gets penalized for choosing to serve here at the SGC. In essence if you choose to work here you can only be transferred upon request because somehow I doubt most people can not otherwise be replaced by other service people. They will also have their own non-disclosure forms for our people to sign to protect their assets and to ensure that anyone leaving won't endanger their people nor can other forms of pressure be applied to encourage them to request leaving. I suppose in essence any military personnel can choose to remain her indefinitely."

"I bet the chiefs weren't happy about that."Jack said. He was however smiling knowing that he could stay in the service then retire when he wanted and still work here. He and Sam now had choices that would not force them to stay apart. He definitely owed Buffy one. "So sir did that offer extend to all our people?"

"Yes Colonel it did and I admit the idea of staying on without having to be totally responsible for all the SGC issues was tempting. I'd like to retire or step back as well but until now there has not been anyone I would trust with the people here. I think that I can trust the SWC to take care of our people." Hammond said smiling. His tone made it clear he had told the president he would leave if he had to as well.

"So babysitting and having to bend to help us out I am betting he not too happy about now." Sam said giggling. "Are we getting international teams now as well sir?"

"Yes Colonel we are." Hammond said then he finished his water. "I am just hoping this is the last major headache we have dealing with the SWC and Washington."

His officers nodded but it was clear they were happy with the compromise thank God the service really could not afford to lose either one.

Zzzzzzzzzzzzz

POTUS sat back and sighed. This really had been a cluster of a week. He so was going to shoot Kinsey this mess was all his fault. However on the plus side the country would not have to pay for the upkeep of the Star Gate and they were perhaps getting better relations with their allies out of it. The SWC was finally willing to work with the military if only on the Star Gate issue and he was able to reward certain officers and call it a way to keep them in service. His promoting Samantha Carter was way overdue.

Well all except the UK were happy as Julian was so going to exact his pound of flesh for having to babysit. He smiled however at the joyful look in Buffy Summers face. That made it almost worth it as the Queen of the slayers deserved to be happy after all she had sacrificed for their nation and the world. He was also glad to have a reason to allow certain people to be together. Henry Hayes was no fool he had been able to tell Colonel O'Neill and his second had feelings for each other but when Kinsey was watching the program so tightly he could do nothing to help. Now however he could lay the changes on the treaty and thus keep it from being a problem with the rest of the services. He poured himself a cup of coffee and leaned back in his chair and decided complicated or not this was a good day to be POTUS.

Xxxxxxxxxxxxx

Loki sat in his room and worked on the problem with his cloning machines. He was just glad that Samantha Carter and Jack O'Neill had not been angry at his mistake. He really had only intended on giving them two children. Though giving them an extra did not seem to tax their parenting skills overly much. He supposed they both realized it would be easier and simpler to have their children be the same age. As he had told O'Neill he really was not getting any younger. Of course he did have an idea about that. His latest research after examining the slayers and Dawn Summers showed him a way to repair damaged individuals. Given the various injuries O'Neill had suffered over the years he decided to help repair him. However that would have to wait a while as he had to fix this machine and he would have to do so in secret so not to get duct taped to his chair. Loki had no will to be limited in such a way. Perhaps if he repaired O'Neill's body then he could call it even. There was really no reason for the man to suffer for his service.

If the procedures worked perhaps he could then offer them to the humans in exchange for a chance to examine more individuals DNA? Such treatments would of course be a fair trade. He did not think Buffy would mind the research if he traded for the DNA he required. While he still believed he had done no real wrong he could see how some would consider it theft so he would now trade for what he needed. There was no real benefit to angering a slayer.

Thor reviewed his brother's research and as much as he hated to admit it Loki was on to something. He just hoped that a closer relationship with the SWC and SG program would help save his people. Willow Rosenberg was willing to take their problem to her coven. While he was uncertain about magic the offer was appreciated as science alone had failed his people. He was just grateful his alliance with O'Neill would help the man gain his heart's desire. Thor had reminded POTUS that the alliance his people had was because of Jack O'Neill and that he was good friends with Samantha Carter and that he would support whatever choices she and Jack made in regards to their careers. The Asgard owed them personally and he would see that repaid. He and his people would have no problem working with the SWC if they owned the gate as long as they protected O'Neill and Carter. The POTUS had changed the rules quickly for them after that. Thor thought perhaps he should have insisted earlier however he had not wanted to seem to force the issue of the couple uniting. As much as his people needed their offspring he would not have seen them forced into a union. Thor now understood the exact opposite had been the case. Humanity were strange creatures. That being said however they were still his own races best chance at survival.

Part 43

Robert Kinsey was not happy to learn that both the Admiral and his aide had been killed by Baal. Yes they were liabilities but he knew neither would have talked. He sighed as the Admiral had truly been a friend and the girl well he had wanted her until Baal got his claws into her. He swirled his drink around and decided to pay the Gauld back for killing without checking with him first. He spotted the clone and with ruthlessness many did not know he had shot him. He then sipped his bourbon and took walked over shooting the cloned "snake" that tried to escape. "He then sent a message to Baal telling him he found one of his "Brothers" dead. He knew there would be no way for this to be traced to him as he used a weapon that had been owned by a dead New York cop. More importantly it would stick it to the NYC police commissioner who had all too often gotten in the way of his business in the city. Let the holyer then thou bastard explain why his dead son's gun was used to kill this John Doe. He slipped out after setting his glass in the dishwasher and turning it on to run. No point in leaving evidence now was there. He slipped out and headed to meet his lawyer at Wolf Ram and Hart he and to speak to them about Trust issues. They would also supply a very useful alibi. He grinned who'd have thought a law firm would have secret exits to the storm tunnels?

Xxxxxxxxxxxxx

Leroy Jethro Gibbs smiled as the JAG officers wrangled the NID agents. While they were busy his team worked to gather evidence. They were so not letting those bastards stage a cover up. Maybe the Admiral was dirty maybe not but they owed it to him to at least try to investigate and if he was innocent well they owed his memory to clear him the man had served for over 32 years and deserved at least someone trying to defend his good name.

Xxxxxxxxxxx

Danny Reagan moved with purpose. He was so finding his brother's killer and he was going to find out why that dead woman had his brother and mother's metal. At least it was back in the families hands. He would see it got to his father no matter what. He stopped at a local store and slipped in. It was a pawn shop and he picked walked over to the counter.

"Can I help you sir?"

"Yeah got any Saint Brigitte medals?"

The owner smiled and led Danny to a display case. The second Reagan son bought several and paid in cash. He keep the family one and have a few to shake the trees with. Yes there was no way this metal was getting out of their sight again it was too important to their family. Little did he know that when it touched Jamie's skin earlier it had sent out an electronic pulse and would soon draw another world being back to check on her lost kin. She had left them once to do the work of her people but perhaps it was time to visit her lost children. Clearly they had need of her if they activated the beacon.

Xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Jon settled Danny down and slipped out to go get some breakfast. Both were hungry but happy. Dawn took Jon's hand and he did not object feeling really happy about the situation he found himself in. As they enter the commissary they were shocked to see Connor sitting with Cassie and talking. The pair looked oddly happy and content.

"Who is that with Connor?" Dawn asked worried for her friend. He was not really used to girls. She felt protective of him.

"Well that is Cassandra Frasier the doctor's daughter but do you know that guy? He looks like he is hitting on her."

Dawn giggled at that. "That is Connor he's one of my best male friends and the son of Buffy's first lover Angel. He's a good guy Jon. Kind of like my brother." She said when she noticed Jon was scowling at the idea of her having male friends close to her own age. Of course given Connor's own unique history Dawn had once thought maybe they could make it as a couple. However given Connors foray into romance with Cordy and the whole Angel/Buffy Drama it never worked out. Not to mention Dawn had felt like she was lusting after a baby when she learned the truth about the then 16 year old Connor. Of course weird was ok but the idea he only been a few months old just weeks before pushed it even for her so they became allies and friends in time. She was really glad Angel had sent him to them to heal and grow up some but really the Destroyer was not to her mind good boyfriend material at least not for her once she got to know him. He was entirely too much like Buffy and Angel. Unlike Buffy she did not do brooding men it was not fun at all.

Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Ziva moved to force Miss Parker away but was shocked to find herself pushed back. She dropped into a fighting stance and glared. Miss Parker simply raised a brow. She was not intimidated in the least. Of course being pregnant she could not kick the NCIS agent's ass so instead she simply glared. "Under normal circumstances I would gladly accept the challenge however as you can see I am expecting so I'll pass for now but I will not let you threaten my people."

Jared grinned at the possessive tone she used. It felt good to know she cared.

"You should not interfere." Ziva said coldly.

"Miss it really is unwise to make Miss Parker or Jared angry." Broots offered.

Both Ziva and Miss Parker glared but the name made Ziva stand up straighter. "Parker as in the Center of Blue Cove Parkers is that correct?"

"Yes, I am that Parker." Miss Parker said.

Ziva went to draw her weapon only to find it was in Miss Parker's hand. "Looking for this Agent David?"

Ziva cursed and Tony and Tim looked on in shock.

This had never happened before. Who was this woman to best Ziva?

Part 44

"I am a Parker and I work with the NID however that being said I have no relationship with Kinsey or his people in anyway. We Jared and I control the Centere and are not going to allow it to be used as it was in the past. I am doing all I can to change the way it does business at least the Center located in Blue Water Cove. I have no control over the other Centers and warn you know that Africa is most put out with us. Associating with us is not safe and can be detrimental to your health."

This time Tony pulled his weapon only to have it pushed down by Ziva.

"I may have over reacted Tony."

"Miss Parker just threatened you, us."

"No Tony she warned us. There is a difference. All right say I believe you what is your part in this?"

"We are investigating the Admiral. He seems to have been close to some of our targets who were less then clean." Jared said.

Tony glared angry on the Admiral's behalf as were the members of the JAG team who now walked over.

"I knew the Admiral he was a good man." Rabb said knowing the man had once been a friend of his father's.

"We are not saying he was. We are more concerned that he may be set up to take a fall for something he did not do. His family does not deserve that." Jared said. He had met the Admiral once and he was a good man. He frowned clearly not liking that the NCIS people distrusted them so just because they had NID badges. Clearly the agency had angered far more people then he and Parker had anticipated.

"Fair enough maybe we can compare notes." Tony said "That is if the boss agrees."

Parker and Jared exchanged a look and both nodded but it was Catherine Parker who said. "We should. This could have national security implications."

That had the NCIS team and JAG officers worried. They glanced over as their partner gathered together the gun and other evidence this was going to be a problem.

The Police commissioner of NY City never called in favors but today he had. He waited in the Mayor's office for the District Attorney to arrive with his daughter Erin Reagan. He hoped Jack McCoy would help him with this nightmare. He also hoped he would be able to explain this to his daughter in a way she could live with. He sipped the coffee the mayor had given him wishing it was something far stronger. However for now both men needed to be sober. This had to be handled carefully. Neither realized at soon one more wrench would be thrown into an investigation they all thought had been closed earlier this year.

Xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Loki smiled as his friends beamed down. It had taken a bit to get Thor to go and retrieve them and to keep various people from shooting him but it was all done. Now he watched as the various groups hugged and had a family reunion of sorts. Maybe I did not do such a bad thing after all.

Jack O'Neill hugged his son Charlie and felt like he would never let him go again. He held his son and was not in the least bit ashamed that tears flowed down his face. His ex wife Sara then moved in to hug her eldest.

"Wow Mum so I'm finally getting that baby brother I asked for? What's his name going to be dad?"

Jack squirmed as neither he nor Sara had yet told Charlie they had split up.

"Her name will be Donna after her father's mother." Sara said.

Charlie frowned and looked at his dad confused.

"Your mom and I are not together anymore son. She married this great guy. He treats her like a queen."

"Who?" Charlie asked clearly not believing anyone but his dad was good enough for his mother.

Sara reached behind her and pulled her husband forward. "Charlie this is my Husband and love Donavan. He is a good guy Charles and I love him with all my heart and soul."

Charlie glared at him but saw his father seemed ok with it. He had a feeling there was a story there.

"Your Mum is right Charlie Donavan a good man. I hope we will eventually become good friends. He has her back in all things and frankly is a better husband to her then I ever was. So give him a chance ok."

Charlie nodded not liking it but trusting his father and mother. He decided he wait and hear the whole story before he got mad.

Xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Buffy hugged her cousin and was determined to not let her out of her sight again. She still had nightmares about das kinder and she was still upset she had not saved her. Ok so it was a clone but to her mind the clone was still family even if she was not Celia.

Celia hugged Buffy glad to see her again. When she learned she could not go home she been scared and angry and frankly a brat not that she had a reason to be but it had hurt. It was worse still when she learned that everyone believed she had died from that demon attack. Of course the attack had been labeled an illness and she been chocked up to death by flu. She still hated her clone had died and she had hit Loki for that. He of course had not understood as clone were disposable to him. He did not get that Celia had considered hers to be a twin. A sister she had always wanted. She mourned for her and cried for her but all too soon she had to move on. At least Loki had put her with Niki and the others shortly thereafter. She had a life even if it was not one she would have chosen and she had learned so much but it was good to be home and good to be with family. She just hoped her mom was ok with her being back and that she would not have issue with her love. Her beloved was the best thing that had happened to her and she loved him with all her heart and soul. Joe was her rock and she could honestly forgive Loki for a lot of things because he saved her love. Of course like her his clone had been killed and he had not until now been able to return home but maybe now it could be arranged that the families at least could be told the truth. After all it was not like the family was just some average American. They were basicly NY city police royalty and had high connections. They could all be briefed and even if they never got to go back to NY the family might be able to see them. Asgard transporters did wonders for travel without having to worry about frequent flyer miles.

"So Buffy fill me in on the family stuff?"

Buffy smiled sadly and began telling her cousin their past history knowing some would be hard for her to swallow. The least of which was Dawn's arrival. After all Celia was one of the few who knew she never had a little sister so she had to be filled in. At least she would get the clone part.

Xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Niki Wood hugged her son. Robin had grown into a fine man. She was not exactly happy that he had entered the demon hunting business but she supposed it had been destined. The fact that he had gone to school and become an educator did please her however. She supposed his running a school for slayers was a reasonable compromise. It still shocked her that there were so many slayers now. However it did make her smile to think none would ever be alone again.

"So son is there anyone special in your life? I mean I would like grandchildren someday."

Robin froze and began to stutter…"Mum, I ah, no not really."

Niki laughed at his pole axed expression clearly he was shocked. Then again she had never expect to live long enough to perhaps see grandchildren. They walked side by side talking when suddenly a trio of vampires jumped out at them.

"Well, well look what we have here. Dinner and dessert I always liked them in pairs."

Niki looked incredulous and Robin glared. "If you leave now I won't turn you into dust bunnies."

The vampires laughed. "Yeah right, not happening teacher. You don't have any slayer back up tonight. I think we will drain you dry and drop you for the kiddies."

"Ah Kurt can't we turn him he is kinda cute and it be fun to have him hunt the ones he protects and teaches."

Niki watched this amused as Robin moved to protect her. She would have been insulted but it gave her a chance to grab a stray branch and break it off.

She hurled the longish branch and impaled the vampire who dared think they would be allowed to drain and turn her son while she was around.

"Hey you killed Kenny, no fair you aint even a slayer."

Niki glared and moved so fast the vampire Kurt never knew what hit him as she ripped his head off bare handed. Then back handed the female vamp standing on the left of him, Robin saw her go down and quickly staked her three down in under two minutes not her best time but not bad given she was out of practice. The last vampire froze and said.

"What the hell you aint a slayer you are to old!"

Robin stepped back knowing his mother would surely take exception to that comment. He handed her his stake which she palmed.

"Oh really, you lot are idiots. I have been a slayer since the 1970's idiot. When you get turned dumb ass?"

"Oh ah 1971 I was in Queens, wait you that slayer from NY? Thought William the bloody got you?"

"Yeah well I got better." Niki said echoing Buffy's flippancy.

"Oh, well then I'll be on my way. He said we could go in peace."

"Yeah well, I'm his mother and I say no way. Besides I kind of want my return kept quiet so bye." Niki tossed the stake and it flew through the unlucky vampire who turned to dust. Easy as pie, some skills you never lost.

Robin chuckled and grinned slaying with his mum could be fun.

Part 45

It took some negotiations and some calls but after a bit the NCIS team allowed Jared, Miss Parker and her team into their crime scene. Of course it was not going to be easy for Gibbs team to trust the members of the Centere. It was now more than clear that the NID part was a cover and oddly enough it caused almost as many issues as the NID. Gibbs was not at all happy that the Centere was willing and able to become federal agents at a whim and more annoyed to learn it was legal. A grey borderline legal but legal Jared was actually kind of shocked to learn that but oddly enough it was Broots and Sam that explained they were deputized as federal agents on their first day on the job. It was one of the reasons the Centere had gotten away with so much. It went all the way back to the cold war and perhaps even the second when the Parkers offered to help the government off the books if they were protected. The protection allowed them to become any agent they wanted. Having pretenders step in only made it easy and smooth. Well it did explain why they wanted us. Jared and Miss Parker thought.

"Agent Parker take a look at this."Tony said. He had seen something like it back in Baltimore and he would bet his best Ohio State Jacket that it was a Centere special.

Miss Parker moved to examine the body and sighed. Yes it was the Centere's handy work or at least a damned good imitation.

Xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Baal hung up the phone not at all pleased to learn one of his clones was dead. He had a feeling Kinsey was responsible but he could not prove it. He made a call to the other members of the Trust. He had to move his plans forward despite the loss. Perhaps he should make more clones? No point in taking risks. He knew Kinsey was a killer and it was far better to lose clones then his own life. He looked forward to the day when Robert Kinsey could be killed. Too bad he would only die once he owed his clone revenge oh well he would just have to make it last when the time came.

Xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

It did not take Gibbs team long to find it was not the Admiral but the adjutant that was dirty and that she had perhaps been tricked.

"Poor girl," Ducky said."She was clearly killed by someone she trusted."

He was glad to finally have the body. The NY medical examiner had been difficult in the extreme.

"Yes well so was the admiral we need lists of who they both met with." Danny Regan said he and his partner had come with the body they were not losing out on this case.

Gibbs glared at the cop but Danny just glared back. No way was a mere former Gunny going to intimidate him.

Baize grinned glad to be back at work and glad it was the NCIS agent getting her partners attitude for once. Of course the Commissioner and Linda were going to throw a fit when they realized Danny and her were here and not at home resting but she would be damned before she left Danny alone with the feds. That way led to badness. At least Jamie had enough sense to stay home and rest.

Part 46 Setting in motion.

Jack McCoy watched as the Police Commissioner and the Mayor paced. He could not quite believe what he had heard. However given the situation he was willing to work with the police to straighten out and clear up this newest twist on a very old and painful case. He had personally known Joseph Regan and he would bet his life on the man just as he would on any of the family. They were a very rare and fading breed of human being. The kind that took their oaths and jobs seriously as they did their own personal lives and honor, hell if he was honest the Regan family were some of the best people he had the honor of knowing. He fully expected that in a few years Erin Regan would be sitting at his desk if not running the whole city. The fact was she was skilled enough to do so now only youth and oddly enough her family connections made it not quite the right time. He was subtly grooming her and several other lawyers to step up when the time was right. Though if he was honest she was his first best choice to be his successor as she was the best possible choice as far as honesty fairness and the public good went. He sipped his coffee and listened as the news about finding that lost metal was told. His gut churned he had a feeling this could get complicated because far more that that family heirloom had been stolen that night. If he recalled Joseph's back up weapons had been taken along with his NY City issued firearm. Never a good thing at all, he just hoped that those weapons were long ago slag or it could become complicated if said weapons were used in a crime. The last thing they needed was for that fine officer's name to be dragged through the mud.

Xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

The Trust had gained the records they needed. It was amazing what one could find with the correct security clearances. It had taken a long time to get but they had it. The names of the other men and women who had served on Operation Nightshade it would be a gold mine. The Chairman of the board smiled he sent memo's out to find the people on the list and to begin tracking them. If one thing was certain it was very likely that these men and women would be among the few that Major Charles might go to for help. If so they would finally have him and perhaps that damned clone Gemini once more. On the plus side it looked like they had eliminated by accident two of the potential allies of Major Charles. At least Murphy was not totally against them. Time was short however.

Danny Regan picked up his cell on the third ring. He saw the caller id and sighed. His father clearly realized he had slipped out. Oh well he had a job to do.

"Yes Commissioner what can I do for you?"

He listened as his father filled him in on the meeting. He smiled glad that Erin was now in the loop and that the D.A. and Mayor had their backs for once. He had not been overly thrilled when Carter Poole had become the mayor but he knew he was a good man. He was definitely not a man to be played or trifled with and he did have a strong moral code. The fact that he had survived a brutal shooting and come out stronger for it did gain Danny's respect and was he supposed changing his mind about the man politics aside that is, he was in many ways far too liberal on some issues but then Danny knew he and his family tended to lean to the conservative side of the spectrum. Which he supposed was only natural given their deep faith and the family business. None of them were big on letting the bad guys go. That being said however he did agree with the Mayor if only privately that some things needed to change to make the police department and city a safer and better place for everyone to live. He saw cops like his brother Jamie as the vanguard for that change while old veterans like himself helped by being the back bone of the police force. Danny fully expected that Jamie would one day replace their father as the police commissioner carrying on the Regan Name in that office while Erin would be Mayor or the DA. Poole was an essential part of both goals. He had a good working relationship with the Commissioner and Danny had a feeling the men were becoming allies if not exactly best friends.

So he listened to the plan the three top leaders of the city had. He was glad they were working together because the last thing he would allow was anyone to drag Joseph's Regan's name through the mud.

Many looking at Catherine Parker would see a cold stone bitch who had no redeeming human qualities who was like a pit bull once on the scent of a case. That was all to true and Miss Parker accepted that side of herself. However that did not mean she did not care or that she did not have a heart or even a desire for justice. Odd as that may seem given that the Centere had been her life's work so far. So she chose to come with Gibbs,Ziva and Tony when they told the young Aide's family of her passing. Perhaps there would be news there that could provide a lead for them to follow. One never knew what the family of a victim might unwittingly know.

It was how she and the other two found themselves sitting in small parlor in an old fashioned house on the edge of Brooklyn.

"I always was afraid I'd lose my daughter. I mean our nations been at war for a long time. However I was so proud she chose to follow me into the Navy. I never expected she would make it to becoming an officer. I was just an old Chief you know. When I got wounded in 91 and medically retired out we settled here to be near my folks. I joined my father in the diamond business and prayed. I mean my daughter she should have been safe."

Tony and Ziva looked at each other. This house did not speak of the wealth that such a job would entail.

The old man chuckled. "Yes Agents my family has money but this house has served us for over 2 generations. It's homey and safe. While I have wealth that never mattered to me much, I just wanted to serve my country. I had three older brothers who were in the business and I wanted to do something on my own. The American Military saved my family back in World War II and becoming a sailor help repay that. We moved her after the war into the home of my great-great aunt and uncle. They had no children so they welcomed my grandfather into their home and family. He joined their business and the rest well you know. When I was injured I was welcomed into the business. Just because I was an enlisted man did not make me stupid or uneducated I just prefer hands on work. It is why I became a medic and how I got injured and discharged."

"I can understand that." Gibbs said. "I was a Gunnery Sergeant in the USMC. I have to say I for one am glad you chose that profession we the USMC be in a world of hurt without the medics skill set. However back to your daughter and her posting what can you tell me about her relationship with the Admiral?"

"Admiral Barnes was a good man Agent Gibbs treated my girl like a niece or daughter. He looked out for her. Made sure she got home on leave now and again. A good man and mentor, he told me once she surpass him in the Navy. I cannot believe someone killed them both that it is random." Mr. Pearls said as he looked at a picture of his daughter that was on his mantel.

"We don't believe it was and we think someone used your daughter to try to set both of them up." Gibbs said. "We found pictures sir and we know that they did not come directly from your daughter though someone wanted it to seem that way."

Mr. Pearl looked angry. "My daughter had met this guy. Martin Baeal or Baal or Ball or something. She said he was a contractor working with the Navy as some sort of consultant. They were supposed to come home at Christmas last year so I could meet him but at the last minute he had some family emergency. That happened more than once though sometimes he claimed it was work related. I always thought he was playing my girl. I never even saw a good picture of the man. Just some with him in the shadows, I honestly thought maybe he was married and playing with my girl's affections but….well Michelle she loved him like crazy and wanted to marry him one day. She had this ring that was I'll admit quite beautiful. Had to worth several thousand if not more, so I stopped arguing with her about it, though I did tell her I wanted to meet the man before the wedding."

Gibbs and Tony shared a look. Ziva stiffened and looked at Miss Parker who nodded. It seemed someone played the young officer and it was most likely a honey trap of some sort. They have to try to find the boyfriend/fiancé.

"Did you happen to get any pictures of the ring or the man your daughter was engaged to?" Tony asked.

Mr. Pearl nodded and rose he handed the NCIS agent a photo.

"I never quite saw a diamond like that one. I thought maybe it was one of those new engineered ones."That part was said with clear distain. "However Michelle was so proud to be wearing his ring…."

"Well it looks lovely and we can see the gentlemen's hands at least." Miss Parker said wondering briefly if it was another pretender running an op.

"Thank you for your time Mr. Pearl." Gibbs said. As he rose indicating it was time to leave.

"It's Master Chief Agent Gibbs and if I can help in anyway let me know. Michelle was my baby girl." A tear fell. "I'm not sure how I am going to tell her mother, she in Israel with my son. He went over to study with the Rabbi's and visit some family there. This is going to devastate them both. Mathis loved his sister dearly."

"We will do our upmost to find the killers Master Chief." Gibbs said. "I promise you that."

"Good enough then. I, I'll see you out." He walked them to the door and the Chief was deep in thought on how he was going to deliver this devastating news to his wife and son who were thousands of miles away. At least they would have a body to burry…but that was a cold comfort.
