Lily awoke with a start, though she couldn't remember what she had even been dreaming about. She rolled over enjoying the warmth that Scorpius' body provided her. He looked so peaceful, and she didn't want to disturb him, so she slid out of bed carefully and went to the kitchen. She made breakfast and waited for her love to wake up, but it wasn't until a little after lunch that he finally emerged, looking a little worse for wear. She hadn't noticed the bruises before and it pained her to see him like that.
"Let's talk," Lily said without standing from where she was seated at the table with a cup of tea in her hands.
Scorpius nodded and took the seat across from her. She shoved a plate of food in front of him.
"Eat," she said simply.
"I thought we needed to talk," he smirked, sending a jolt of relief down Lily's spine.
"I'll talk, you eat," she said pointedly, and he knew not to argue with her. She stared at him for a long moment while he piled food into his mouth. Finally, she let out a loud sigh. "Scorpius, I understand that you've taken on a dangerous job. I've seen what my mother goes through. I've always known it isn't easy. But you can't hide that part of your life from me. I can't be kept in the dark because you're frightened for me." Her eyebrows were drawn in, though she tried not to look mad. She would be lying to herself if she said she was completely fine after the previous night.
Scorpius set his fork down carefully. "I can't stand the thought of something happening to you, much less me being the cause. I will not involve you in that part of my life." He spoke softly, as if speaking to a child. But there was also a sense of finality in his tone, one that said the topic was not open for debate.
"I can protect myself," Lily started and Scorpius platinum brows shot up. "What?" she asked indignantly. "I can!"
"Oh really?" He smirked again, trying to lighten the mood.
"Yes," she said. Before she could say another word he was next to her and pulling her out of her chair. She let out a yelp as he tossed her over his should and carried her into her bedroom. He brought her down into his arms. "Scorpius!" she hissed. But his lips were on hers, desperate, begging for her. She pulled away, but he kept his hands in her hair, keeping her face near his. She could feel his hot breath on her cheek and her resolve crumble
"Just give yourself to me, Lily," he pleaded as he placed kisses along her jaw and down her neck. She moaned softly at the warmth of his soft lips. "I need this," his voice was husky when he pulled back far enough to gaze into her eyes. "I need you. I need to know we're ok. That you," he said releasing her, and running his hand down her spine, "are still mine."
Lily's heart was beating hard against her chest. She brought his free hand to her chest, holding it there. "I'm yours, Scorpius, always." That was all he needed to hear and he pulled her into him, kissing her until they were no longer two separate beings.
After, as Lily relaxed into Scorpius' strong arms, her mind began to relax and she slowly started drifting out of consciousness.
"I wish I could freeze this moment," Scorpius said, breaking the silence and bringing Lily back to reality. "And live in it forever."
"Me too," she replied.
Lily hand rested on the soft lace of her dress. It was a beautiful dress. It fit her body perfectly, and though her friends and family were speaking to her their voices were muffled. It had seemed like only a moment ago she was alone, and now the room was full of familiar faces, the faces of her family, but there was one missing. Where is Scorpius? She waited for a response, but there was none. Had she not spoke the words? She tried again, but no sound came.
She turned to the mirror that seemed to appear from thin air, maybe it did. She didn't recognize her reflection the way she thought she should. There was something different, something wrong. She pursed her lips, trying to find familiarity. This is not me, is it?
"Of course it's you," an unfamiliar voice spoke very close to her ear. But when she turned no one was there. The room was empty.
The familiar part was now in front of her. She was walking down the aisle. Surely she had more friends than were there. The church was empty. Wait. A church? This wasn't quite right. Lily shook it off. Her mind must be playing tricks on her. Her family was all seated in the front rows, but they didn't look happy. They were dressed in black, which seemed odd to her. This was supposed to be their big day. The happiest moment of their lives.
Lily saw the faces of her family, none of which would meet her gaze as she continued to walk down the aisle. She was almost there when she realized Scorpius was not waiting for her.
Her hands were shaking when she realized that he had stood her up. He'd left her at the alter.
But as she reached the alter she realized that was not the case. Her family was mourning, and she was standing in front of Scorpius' dead figure in her white gown.
Lily woke with a start, unable to control her breathing, and her pounding heart. She was struggling to grasp onto reality as she felt to arms wrap around her. She fought for a moment, struggling to be free of the arms clutching her, but a familiar voice floated into her ear, though she wasn't able to comprehend the words at first.
"It's ok. I'm here…I'm here for you..it's ok…you're safe…nothing's happening to you…just breath." Scorpius stroked her hair with one hand, while still holding her close to him. She'd stopped struggling against him, but he could sense she was not fully there with him, so he kept murmuring words of comfort to her.
Tears formed in Lily's eyes as she gradually realized that it was only a dream. She looked up into Scorpius' grey eyes, his platinum brows drawn in out of concern. Before he could say another word of comfort her lips were on his, desperate to feel the reality. That he was really there with her. Scorpius didn't fight it, allowing her to control him.
Lily was quiet for a long time after. Scorpius was the one to break the silence.
"I can't bare it, love. Please tell me what that was about." She was laying in his arms, but sat up to face him, and though she was facing him, her eyes were off to the distance, not fully there in that moment.
"I just can't think of it now," she said quietly. "I'm sorry. I love you." It was true that Lily loved him. She'd never felt as broken as she did at the moment, realizing that she could lose him.
"I love you too," he said kissing her on the tip of her nose. He didn't want to pry, and knew that Lily was too stubborn to give in, but this was a case when he could feel that she'd been truly terrified.
"I want to marry you," she said quickly, focusing her eyes on him finally.
"Me too, love." He said with a crooked grin. But her face was serious.
"Today," she said seriously.
"Today?" he repeated a bit shocked. Her nod was almost imperceptible. "Think of your family, Lily." Scorpius was struggling with his words. "Think of my mum. She would be heartbroken if there wasn't some sort of event out of it."
"I see," Lily looked away quickly, focusing on an enchanted photo that Albus had given to her when she was in her fifth year. A going away present, he had told her when he was graduating.
"They probably wouldn't forgive us," he said shaking his head. "But I don't care if you don't." He couldn't imagine waiting any longer to marry her, especially when she was as ready to marry him as he was her. He looked back up into her hazel eyes, smiling widely.
"Really?" Lily asked, smiling for the first time since her dream.
"Of course I am! I've been waiting to marry you longer than you realize." Lily through herself onto him, kissing him deeply for a very long time, but what seemed like only seconds to them. "Let's get married," Scorpius breathed when she pulled back.
AN: I am so sorry for the very long wait for this chapter. I've been very busy, and lacking a bit of inspiration, but I am back now! I know this chapter is short, but I wanted to get something out before I changed my mind. Please review and let me know what you think!
