Hey guys! Long time no see! Sorry for the wait. It's been crazy lately!
Clove's POV
Word count 1,657
My eyes suddenly open. It's dark out, my only source of light comes from the decending moon. I glance at my watch, it's 5:39. I can hear the quiet breathing of the others against the soft wind. I watch as Glimmer breathes in and out. My hatred for her seems to have reached its boiling point. I want her eliminated. I know what I'm going to do is a risky move, but the way Cato looked at her- it made me want to scream.
I carefully grab one of my knives and tip toe silently around Cato. I pull out another from my halter. I walk between the space where Glimmer is lying next to Marvel and crouch down. I place my knives over each of their hearts before slamming my hand down until it rest against their chests. It's a quick painless death. Two cannons boom causing Cato to jolt awake.
"Was happn'ing." he mumbles sleepily as he rubs his eyes with a yawn.
"Nothing, just killing people." I respond.
I can see his eyes narrow in the moonlight.
"What did you do Clove?" he asks me.
"Just eliminating the competition." I tell him. "We better move." I add. "We don't want to be here when the bodies are picked up." I say.
Cato shakes his head, as if he expected this from me. He grabs a flashlight and turns it on as we begin to cover our tracks. A reflection catches my eyes as we pack the wepons. I walk over to Glimmer and rip her gold necklace off before shoving into my bag. I also pull my knives out of their chests. I rub the blood off on their uniforms. I place them back in my halter before kicking the side of her head.
"Stupid Bitch." I mutter.
It doesn't take long for us to pack the rest of our things.
"Ready?" Cato asks.
I nod shortly.
"Let's move."
We travel quickly and carefully through out the forest. Small birds tweet a far too happy tune as the eerie dark forest looms over us. We come across a small creak and pause to refill our water supply. The cold water feels refreshing against my chapped lips. As we put our canteens away a cannon booms loudly.
"One more down." I say.
"Shame about Glimmer." Cato tells me. "She wasn't too bad."
I smack him. "Well if she's so great why don't you go back and have your way with her?" I ask while crossing my arms over my chest.
Cato makes a face.
"Eww Clove, that's disgusting. She's dead. I'm not into necrophilia." he says as we walk across the stream.
I roll my eyes.
...
We walk for another several hundred feet before coming to a cave hidden only by a few vines. Cato flashes the light carefully to make sure no one is inside. The coast is clear.
We set are things down and begin to unpack.
"I'm going to camouflage the entrance." I tell him as daylight begins to break. I trudge my way out of the cave slowly.
As I walk out of the cave I see a parachute slowly glide down before landing on a large boulder beside the cave.
It must be meant for me, or else they would have sent it when Cato and I were together. I unhook the metal clip and pull it open. I feel as if I'm being watch by the entire nation for some odd reason.
Well duh it's the Hunger Games. I think.
When I see what's inside I freeze.
It's a pregnancy test.
I suddenly feel nauseous and dizzy all at once.
"Clove?" Cato calls as he walks out of the cave.
I whip around and hide the parachute behind my back.
"What did they send us?" Cato asks.
Shoot. He must have heard the noise.
"It only for me." I blurt out.
His eyes narrow. "Let me see." he says as he takes a step forward.
"No!" I say a little too loud as a take several steps back. "It's something only women need." I tell him pointedly. It's technically not a lie.
He makes a face of disgust. "I don't even want to know, just get started on the camouflage." he says before awkwardly walking away.
I let out a sigh of relief.
I walk over to a bush and kneel down on the ground so I can read the note without the cameras watching.
You're probably knocked up- your favorite mentor.
My body feels overly warm and my head feels light as I rip open the package. I immediately locate the instructions and begin reading.
Prick finger and wait for response. The PT(registered under license below)is the fastest pregnancy test available in the Capitol. The PT can detect pregnancy two days after sexual intercourse.
I take a deep breath and prick my finger with the small needle provided. I place my bloodied finger onto the scanner as I let out a deep breath. The small strip lights up and makes a small clicking noise before saying the word 'pregnant' clearly.
I throw the test into the bush before clutching my head. This is not happening right now. This can not be happening. For the first time ever I question whether or not I'm going to make it out alive. I know one thing for sure. Cato can not find out about this, under any circumstances.
I suddenly feel as if I'm going to loose consciousness.
"Cato." I mumble quietly.
My eyes roll back a second before I hit the ground.
...
Cato's POV
"Clove? What's taking so long? It's been fifteen minutes-" my sentence is cut short the second I see her on the ground. A million thoughts race through my head all at once.
"Clove!" I yell as I kneel down beside her and shake her shoulder.
She mumbles something and I instantly feel relieved. She's not dead.
I bend down and pick her up carefully before walking back to the cave. I place her inside of the sleeping bag before zipping it up half way. God, she almost gave me a heart attack. I'd go on a rampage if something ever happened to her.
...
Clove's POV
I Wake up feeling overly warm. I sit up slowly despite feeling groggy. I look up and see Cato sharpening his sword.
"What happened?" I ask him quietly.
"You passed out." he said shortly. I know he wants to say more but he doesn't.
My eyes go wide as I remember what happened. Maybe I should tell him? I don't know, I feel conflicted.
"What happens when it's just the two of us?" I whisper.
The look on his face tells me I've asked the wrong question.
"I don't want to talk about that." he snaps.
"I have to get out of here Cato." I tell him seriously.
"Well I don't want to die." he growls.
I bit my lower lip. Should I tell him?
I keep my mouth shut.
"I know you don't, neither do I. Maybe we can find a way to make it out of here together." I say.
He laughs. "There is no way we can both make it out of here. No one ever has and no one ever will.'' he says with a sad shake of the head.
"You don't know that." I protest. "That stupid girl on fire claims to be pregnant. Maybe if she was the last one they would let lover boy live to help raise the little thing?" I ask hopefully.
"I seriously doubt it." Cato mutters.
I sigh. "I just really want to go home." I say quietly. "I can't stand being in this place. I just want everyone to die so we can go home." I sniffle.
...
The next two days go by painfully slow. I check every morning to see if I've gained any weight but my stomach remains as flat as ever. Cato and I never talked about if either of us wanted kids or not. I know I'm certainly not cut out to be a mom.
I can't help but picture a life without the Games. Just the two of us, and our baby. The words 'our baby' cause my heart to pang. I might not even live. There might never be a baby. The mere thought causes my eyes to spill over. The tears slowly trickle down my face as I picture myself laying dead against the soft grass. There might not be a baby. I begin to cry harder as I scoot to the farthest corner of the cave. For some reason I thought that the emotional part of being pregnant came later. I silently hope Cato does not come back form hunting anytime soon. What the hell was I thinking when I slept with him? Now I'm pregnant and all alone in a goddamn cave! Why did life always have to be so hard and unfair? Why did my mother have to die and why did I ever go to that stupid Academy? I feel like the unluckiest girl in the world.
As I wipe away my last tear a cannon goes off.
"Clove? I'm back." Cato calls as he enters the cave.
I take a deep breath and stand.
"I'm pregnant." I whisper.
