Thanks to my beta Ren (throughmysoul44) for her help.

But why?" Elena pleaded. She did not even care that Wes was going to hurt her, her thoughts were on Kim and Damon. "Why was it so important for you to learn more about Kim? Why would you be so cruel and experiment on someone like her?"

"She was unique," Wes said plainly. "I'm a scientist. That's it, Elena. There are no gimmicks. She was the first biological baby born to vampire parents. Something that wasn't supposed to happen in nature. Vampires are not made to love or to be parents. She fascinated me. Then of course, I realised that her blood was appealing. Thanks to her blood, I created both the antidote to protect my people when encountering monsters like you and the blood they receive as payment for their assistance. Kim truly is special. Her blood is like that of a guardian's to a vampire, she doesn't age, yet she has all the vampire and human weaknesses. That blood is highly addictive, by the way," Wes said, turning his attention to a surgical knife. "And Damon's supply is about to run out. He'll die without it. The only way he can get it is if he asks me, and I'm certainly not going to give him an ounce."

"Kim will help him. You said it yourself. Kim's blood created it!" Elena screamed. "He'll drink from her and he'll get better. He doesn't need you."

"Oh, sweet Elena," Wes said, turning to face her again. "Kim's blood helped me create it. There's much more than that. Did Damon ever tell you that he used to take blood samples from you? Those samples are like puzzle pieces. Guardian blood, along with Kim's, are just pieces to form the bigger picture. I needed my vampires to be loyal to me. They crave it more than they crave Guardian blood. The blood was my assurance, it was unique; designed specifically to lure them all in. Kim's blood alone will not help him. And even if he survives, he'll forever be a slave to the blood I've created. He's probably in pain right now, fighting consciousness. He'll start to get weaker by the second."

"I don't believe you!" Elena shouted. "There's another way and Damon will find it. He'll be cured."

"Believe what you want, Elena, but I know the truth," Wes smirked sickly. "Damon betrayed me and defied me. He is now paying the price. My vampires are well protected. I provide them with an antidote to make sure that they do not fall for a guardian's charm. I give them what they think they need. But I do not tolerate disobedience."

He cleared his throat. "That being said…You really don't have to worry about Damon, or Kim for that matter. I know exactly where they are, and I know everything. I know about Emily. I've always known. I know that Emily is your sister and soon enough, her fate will be similar to yours. Neither of you will be able to hurt any one of us. My race will be protected, no matter what. Just this time, I'm not going to make it about revenge. I will give your sister a quick, painless death."

Damon ran as fast as his weak body allowed him. He did not even care where he was going. He felt that he did not deserve to live another second. His head and heart were exploding with emotions, and tears kept streaming down his cheek. The pain was too real. He had met his daughter after all those years and he had not even realised. He had been falling in love with his own flesh and blood.

You didn't know, a part of him told him. You had no idea. You've done nothing wrong.

But he had. He nearly slept with her. With his daughter.

Oh God. If he had not been damned before, he certainly was now. The physical pain continued to worsen and so did the emotional distress. He had met his daughter and yet he was running from her. But he could not, he could not face her, not after all those sinful desires. He had dreamed of the moment he would meet his daughter again, whether it was if he ever died or simply when he let his imagination run wild and believe that she was not gone. He had dreamed of that moment; as impossible as it seemed; yet he never pictured it like that. He never pictured finding out that the woman he nearly slept with would turn out to be the daughter he thought he had lost when she was just a few years old.

His legs gave out and suddenly he was on top of a cliff, by the chapel he used to visit when he was human. It was a different time, he was different. He was not the dark creature who would prey on the weak. He had done so much. He had hurt Elena, he had damned her to hell, and he used her in the ways he wanted, all to fulfil his hatred. And then, he allowed himself to fall in love again.

He begged death to take him. He did not want to live any longer. He was beyond the point of redemption or forgiveness. He had done so much, he had hurt so many people. Elena was always going to be a part of him, yet the love he had started to feel for Kim was strong. He had loved them both, but he quickly realised that the attachment he had felt to Kim was a different kind of love.

If only he had known. What was he to do, even if he was forgiven? Elena did not want him and it would take a lot of time before he would be able to see Kim again. And when he did, how would he able to look at her as his daughter, and not as his lover?

The dilemmas were overwhelming Damon, so much that every thought, every "if" and "how" was breaking him apart, like stakes painfully entering his body.

All it would take was the removal of his daylight ring.

It would be too easy.

His hands locked around his ring.

"No," Elena cried out hysterically, "You are not touching her, she's just a child. I beg you, I'll do anything you want!"

"Don't worry, sweet Elena, it'll be painless. Think of it that way, Emily will never go through what you've been through. She'll just be killed. There will be no vampires, no 'missions', no pain or humiliation. She'll never even know what kind of monster she was."

Wes cupped her beneath the chin as tears streamed down Elena's cheeks, whispering to her to stop crying. He tightened the cuffs around her ankles which were bound to the chair before he savagely shoved her hands back, wrapping them around with a piece of thick rope.

Then, he leaned his face in, and started to lick her tears, from her cheeks up until he reached her temple.

"You taste so good," He whispered in her ear, "And even better when you're scared. We are going to have so much fun together, Elena. You'll have no one but me." He grabbed her face roughly and forced her into a kiss. "But now…let's see how tolerant you are to pain."

He made a deep cut on her cheek and Elena screamed. He laughed sadistically, leaning in to lick the blood, closing the wound, before making another one.

"You're even prettier when you're hurt…" He whispered, letting his fangs elongate.

For long, painful minutes, Wes played that sick game. He would cut her, feed on her, and then heal her again. Elena's face had become a massacre of blood, sweat, and tears. He finally stopped, catching his breath.

"A girl who managed to fight off her nature," Wes said, wiping his hands. "Very impressive. Yet somehow, the only way you can be of use to me is if you're pleasuring me and my men again. That's all you are, Elena, a whore. That's the only thing you're good for. I can see that now." He looked at her bruised face.

He stopped, watching as Elena whimpered in pain, unable to move due to the tight restraints.

"It's time for you to say goodbye," He told her. "To say goodbye to Emily."

"No," She sobbed. "No, please. What are you going to do to her? Just please, have me. I beg you!"

"Shhhh…" He came behind her, resting his chin on her shoulder, and then snatched a roll of duct tape. He grabbed her face despite her struggles and forced a piece of tape on her mouth, testing the strength of the glue, before patting it down. "No screaming allowed," He told her, kissing her taped mouth.

"This nonsense ends now. I'm getting pretty tired of playing this game." Wes picked up his phone as Elena stared in horror, unable to do anything. She desperately tried to free herself, but with each pull the rope tightened until her hands were burning.

"Trevor?" Wes spoke, putting the phone on speaker. "Where are you?"

"In the house, where you told me."

Elena's breath caught in her throat.

"Are the girls with you?"

"Only the older one," Trevor spat.

Before Elena could attempt to cry out, she heard a loud scream coming from the phone. She knew that scream; it was Kimberly. From what she could hear, she realised that the girl was being beaten up because she did not want to tell the vampire where Emily was.

"If you're not going to tell me where the girl is, I will make both of your deaths agonizing," Trevor threatened her.

"I told you, I don't know," Kim cried, throwing up blood as she laid whimpering on the floor. Trevor kicked her again.

"Stop lying to me!"

"I'm not lying. Emily's not here. Please just stop…stop hurting me…" She begged, holding her stomach in pain.

"What was that?" Elena heard Trevor say. She could hear footsteps and Kimberly pleading again.

"It's coming from the basement," Trevor informed Wes. "I think she hid the child there. I think I heard a cry."

He kicked Kim harder than before and she fell unconscious in front of him. His face as hard as stone, he headed to the basement, but was surprised when he found no one there. His patience thinning, the man started to yell, bursting into a fit of rage.

"She hid the fucking child," He growled at Wes.

"Well, find her!" Wes screamed back, looking evilly at Elena. "She's a five year old. You're over two hundred!"

Elena shook her head, pleading with Wes to stop, but he did no such thing. Instead, he continued giving orders, even when Trevor was about to give up.

"Hold on," Trevor said, and Elena's heart skipped a beat. "There's another room…It's hidden. A panic room. I can hear the girl's heart beating like a drum."

"What's going on, Trevor?" Wes barked when his friend no longer replied.

"I can smell you, you know," Elena heard the monster say to her little sister. "Get out here. I know exactly where you are, but I'm willing to play fair."

"Don't!" Elena attempted to scream in hope that her sister would listen to her, but the tape was too tight across her mouth.

"Got you!" She heard Trevor yell, and then she heard cries. Emily was crying, she was scared and she was calling out for her. Elena's heart broke into a million pieces. She struggled as much as she could, but it was no use. Wes was not planning to soften his heart.

She heard coughing and then Kim's voice, echoing throughout those four walls. "Please…" was all she said, her voice weak.

Elena listened to the sound of a gun being loaded, but before anything else could happen, she heard a familiar voice, the voice that had managed to pull her out of her darkest trances.

Damon.

"Get away from my family!" He barked, forgetting his own weaknesses as he threw himself in front of Kimberly and Emily protectively.

Everything happened within a span of a few seconds. She heard Kimberly begging, then the gunshots, and then Damon screaming.

And then an explosion so massive that the noise pierced Elena's ears.

Then, finally…nothing.
