"Now with Godric gone Ms. MacShire you will need the proper protection against those who will seek to destroy you." Roman drawled out. Kyrie sat at the large marble table in the middle of the authority's headquarters. She was uncertain how long she had in fact been there as there were no windows or any real sense of night or day save for when she became extremely tired and began to bleed.
"Protection?" She asked somewhat amused. "You believe that I need protection."
"Why yes, as a matter of fact I do." He replied. "Where you do have many centuries over most of our kind there are still matters that you are not able to comprehend, situations that you may not be able to understand." Kyrie cast him an eye as he she felt as if he were calling her stupid. It wasn't the first time it had occurred, whether it was a human assuming she was an adolescent because of her appearance or a vampire who found out she had been feral for most of her days, still it bothered her to no end.
"I can assure you that I am fully capable of surviving on my own and all of my faculties are intact to deal with whatever situation may arise." She quipped feeling her hands grip the material of the skirt she wore.
"Please don't assume that I think you are." He stated raising a hand to try and calm her down. "It is no secret that you have been sheltered from the authority as per Godrics request. He felt as if there was no need for you to be involved in any matters pertaining to territories or governing." Roman walked behind her and squeezed her shoulder placing his mouth close to her ear. "However Godric is, sadly, no longer with us. That makes you a highly valuable commodity to us Kyrie."
She berated herself for shuddering. She could feel the smirk that it caused to spread across Romans face. Tightly Kyrie closed her eyes and took a deep unnecessary breath. Bright lights and sparks danced behind her closed lids before she reopened them and glanced around the room as if Eric or Godric would be there to save her.
Nora simply sat across from her smiling distantly as if she were pleased that she were there with her. While Eric and Godric had fought against the bonds that tied them to the authority and still did as they more or less pleased with in reason, it seemed Nora was completely inundated with them.
It was her own fault for allowing her progeny, her child, to stay with them. She should have taken her when she had the chance. Nora would have listened to her out of love and respect…she had only herself to blame. There were many times over the years where she had replayed the scenario over in her head without the hurt and anger she had felt when Godric released her, still she felt that she would have done the same at the time.
Nora had wanted it so badly and Kyrie had felt that they could provide her with far more than what she or Godric ever could have. Now as she stared at her daughter she wondered exactly what the price was going to be, what toll had it taken on her to become a chancellor of the authority? As always she knew that time would tell.
"What would you have me do, then?" Kyrie asked regaining her composure knowing full well that no one was going to save her. Godrics protection was gone and Eric could do little against them, not that she would want him too, who knew what levy they had against him.
"There have been disturbing reports of rampant 'V' usage in the area that Eric Northman is sheriff of." Roman explained sitting on the table meeting her gaze with his own. "Despite our efforts to quell this situation and stern talks with Mr. Northman little to nothing has been done."
"What will you have me do, then?" Kyrie repeated biting her tongue from more scathing comments from escaping.
"You are going to sell off your house in Dallas Ms. MacShire and you are going to move to Shreveport, Louisiana." He directed. "More specifically you will settle at Mr. Northman's business."
"You would have me spy on my progeny and his child?" She asked abruptly staring at Roman as he rounded to the other side of the table standing closer to Nora.
"Kyrie, you know how dense Eric can be." Nora offered.
"You will not speak of him in such a manner." She said low in her throat. It was one thing to have Roman slander Erics name but Nora…she loved Eric as much as Kyrie did, she would not sit by and listen to ill begotten gossip.
Nora stared at her stunned somewhat before sitting back in her chair. "Mama…I meant nothing by it. It is not an untruth. Eric has always done as he more or less pleases, a fact that has been a thorn in our side."
"Back to the matter at hand." Roman interjected. "You are one closest to Mr. Northman, you already have his trust…"
"How do you know that I can be trusted?" Kyrie asked. "Can you be so certain that I simply will not explain all of this to him?"
Roman smirked at her as he sat down across from her. "If you were to do that Ms. MacShire I can assure you that I will burn your world to the ground." The threat came out as flat and uncaring, this is what Godric had feared the most…their seemingly all powerful ability to control them. "Just ask your progeny when you see him what happens to those that oppose us."
Kyrie sat staring straight ahead. She was captured by them. There was no one to save her anymore, Nora certainly was no longer her ally. She knew that the time had finally come where she would have to protect Eric from the authority. She already had her mind set on telling him everything but knew she would have to bide her time, if nothing else what else did she have.
With in a week Kyrie found herself being driven from the airport towards Fangtasia. She had been a couple of times since Eric and Pam had turned the old movie store into an exclusive club. She supposed that with the great revelation that business had been better than ever now that vampires could openly mingle with humans.
The driver of the car opened the door for her and began grabbing the only bag she had brought with a few pairs of clothes, she could always buy a bigger wardrobe. There were several patrons standing outside either off to the side smoking or waiting to gain entry. Pam stood checking the humans' identifications.
Kyrie made her way to the front entrance catching Pam's attention. "Kyrie." She said simply drawling out her name.
"Pamela." She greeted similarly.
"Long time." Pam said in her usual cocky tone.
"Yes, it has." Kyrie replied.
"Sorry about your loss." She stated her eyes softening somewhat while her tone remained the same.
"Thank you." She said.
"I'm surprised to see you here. According to Eric you were quite adamant about staying in Dallas." Pam noted.
"Yes, well…there is nothing for me there and I was concerned about Eric." She stated. Kyrie did not enjoy lying to the younger vampire, she had generally gotten along well with Pam once their boundaries had been set with one another.
"He's inside." She motioned towards the club. "Come on in." Pam stepped aside allowing Kyrie to slide past her. It was dark and tinted a blood red color from the lights overhead. The music was loud and she could smell alcohol. It reminded her of the brothels that she and Eric had investigated in San Francisco over a hundred years before.
It wasn't hard to find her progeny. He sat front and center on what appeared to be a throne. She smirked to herself as she stared at him for a few moments, he was impressive…still the Viking king. He stood when he sensed her and took long strides over to her.
"Kyrie." He greeted smiling widely taking her hand in his and led her up to his seat. He sat down while she made herself comfortable on his lap. She wrapped an arm around his shoulders while he held her around the waist.
"A vic, I was worried about you." She whispered into his ear gently, it wasn't a lie…she had been. "My place is here, with you." Kyrie hated herself as she watched the smile spread across his face. He took all of her words as absolute truth, he had no reason to distrust her. Her stomach knotted painfully as he laid a soft kiss against her forehead.
"I agree." He said moving his lips down to meet hers. Kyrie fought back the bloody tears that threatened to fall.
