Chapter 29: Help from New Friends

Hao's pOv

I willed my soul to return to my body along with Opacho. As soon as I felt my soul fully back in my body I realized that it was in one piece and that there's a weight that slightly keeps me down. I opened my eyes and saw a mess of blonde hair.

Fumiko's soulless body.

I let out a small sob. Just when things are supposed to be all fine I lost her once again. Why can't we be together until we grow old even just for one lifetime? I gently removed her body from mines and sum up the new power of being a shaman king to retrieve her soul but a very strong force, as if the whole Great Spirit along with its every creation prevented me in doing so.

Is it really the end of her role?

No. It's not. It will never be until we finally manage to spend our lives together.

What's the use of being the shaman king if I don't have her by my side? Even with the power of a god, I can't get her back. Does the world hate me so much?

Opacho approached me with a concerned look and wiped my tears away. I just realized that I was crying the whole time and sadly smiled at her.

"She'll be back. Opacho knows she will be." She said in pure belief.

"Of course she will… but I don't understand why I can't summon her spirit." I replied as I stood up carrying Fumiko's limp body.

"Maybe Anna-san knows?" Opacho suggested.

"Ah, maybe. Let's go." I wipe and evidence of tears in my face before offering my hand to her.

She took it and I teleported ourselves in Fumiko's room first to settle her body in there then in to Funbari. We reappeared and startled the living daylights out of Yoh whom we landed in front to while he was running.

"Nii-san!" He both shockingly and happily screamed.

"Yoh?!" His friends called out and dashed to his location. "H-Hao!"

"May I see Anna for a moment?" I asked which confused everyone.

"Anna? She's in Izumo with my mother who was called by grandma. We're supposed to go there in a few hours too." Yoh answered. "Wanna come with us?"

I smiled a nice gentle smile at him which made him happy. "Yes, that would be nice."

"Hao, are you sick or something?" Horokeu asked in disbelief.

"Looks like it." Ren agreed for the first time.

"Oi, don't you think Okami-san will be mad about this?" Ryu cried, probably imagining what tortures Anna will give him.

"Well, she might but Hao is the shaman king she can't really do anything to him." Lyserg answered.

"Lyserg…" I called.

"Y-yes?" He gingerly looked at me then softened.

"I'm sorry about your parents… I was misguided back then."

"I forgive you." He replied quickly. "That's all I have waited for, you saying sorry from the heart."

"Well, that's one dilemma solved but aren't we supposed to leave now?" Faust reminded them by showing his pocket watch that showed 4:30 pm.

"Ah! Anna's going to kill us!" The gang yelled and I just chuckled.

"Gather your stuff, I'll teleport us there." I offered and Yoh cried in gratitude.

"Thank you nii-san!" He screamed as he ran back in the house along with the others to get their stuff.

"Does Hao-sama want to be with his family?" Opacho asked when they are out of sight.

"Apparently so." I confirmed.

"This is what Fumiko-tan wants, isn't it?" She continued the questions.

"Ah huh." I saw them running back in my place so I hold Opacho's hand again. "Let's go."

In a matter of seconds we are all enveloped in flames and disappeared in Funbari to Izumo. The place hasn't changed that much. The main branch's home is still the same and carefully preserved. Yoh slid the washi of the house and we're greeted by Keiko or should I say kaa-san.

"Welcome back Yoh and friends." She greeted until she finally noticed me and Opacho. "Hao…"

"Hello, Keiko. If you're worried that I would destroy your house no worries I already changed and - "

I was cut off my speech when a tight hug squeezed the air out of me. "Oh, Hao I'm so glad you come home with your little brother. You have idea how much pain it was to be separated to my child!"

I stopped in dead tracks on what I heard. All this time, Keiko wants to treat me as her very own child despite the fact that I'm the very reason of the Asakura massacre 1000 years ago?

"Kei – kaa-san," I whispered and she smiled.

"I'm glad you considered me as your mother." She cried happily then stopped. "Oh, how rude of me. Come on in all of you. I made some tea inside."

We all get in and saw Tamao with her kokkuri board. Yohmei and Mikihisa are behind her nodding to acknowledge that she got her premonition right.

"Hello, father and grandfather." I politely greeted which made them burst in laughter.

"It does sound weird coming from you Hao but nonetheless," Mikihisa replied as he calmed down. "Welcome home."

It made me tear up a little as I heard those words. Welcome home. I had a home where everybody accepts me. I felt a huge chunk of weight in my heart has been released. Yoh panicked as he saw me cry but I saw Opacho shook her head and smiled.

"Thank you… and I hope you forgive me for everything I've done." I spoke as I wiped my tears.

"Just don't burn anybody's face again." Yohmei pointed to Mikihisa which made everybody stifle a laugh.

"According to Tamao's reading, you're looking for Anna, why is that?" Kino suddenly appeared from one of the doors.

My cheerful face darkened and I looked down the ground. "It's about my wife, Fumiko…"

"No matter what you do, she won't come back." Anna spoke as she got out behind Kino. "Am I right?"

"Yes, do you know what's going on?" I asked patiently and she nodded.

"She's in trial. Even the Great Spirit won't allow his host to interfere in a great court trial." Anna answered.

"A trial?"

"The witch's trial in the purgatory." Rin answered as she slid the washi open. "She already warned us about it. She said she might not make it back so she seeks out for help."

"Why she didn't ask me?" I complained but Kyoko and Kino hit my head at the same time.

"Mystic Circle Order," Kyoko said. "They are the ones who held the court and of course a big rival of Fumiko."

"Whoa, back up! Can you guys tell us first what happened before we jump to the climax of the story?" Horokeu remonstrated.

"Alright, I guess we should start with the source." Anna pointed at kaa-san and she nodded.

"Last night, your mother Asanoha appeared in my dream and talked about you and Fumiko. She gave me specific instructions and I have no idea how to do it without your help so I got troubled but now you're here we will have a bigger chance of helping Fumiko." She started and looked at Tamao.

"T-then when I was p-practicing my kokkuri board reading… b-before I even managed to touch it…" She took a deep breath to prevent her stuttering. "It started moving on its own and it spelled Fumiko. I accidentally called her Ayako and Bunko though…"

"Why would you mistake her name?" Ryu butted in but Ren hit him with his Guan Dao.

"Because the kanji of her name has those meanings too, idiot." He answered. "Continue."

She nervously nodded then spoke. "She told me to tell you this in case you don't believe us. 'It's not the voice you or I but of all mankind.' I don't know what she means but I think that was about your reishi…" When she saw me nodded in confirmation she continued. "Then she didn't manage her next message it just shattered my old planchette."

"They prevented any means of help to come to her so they can get the title of the endless witch from her." Rin answered the mystery about it. "The endless witch has the ability to do almost anything without caring for the rules."

"But… why is Fumiko-tan in court then?" Opacho finally spoke.

"She broke a special law of resurrection." Anna answered. "Resurrecting Hao's body without letting the soul to return inside or attempting to do so is one of the special laws."

"How do you know about this stuff?" Yoh asked in pure curiosity.

She tugged her 1080 beads and my mother followed. "Hello, Hao."

"Mother…"

"Hello, Asanoha-san!" Yoh and his gang, except Ren, greeted.

"Any news about Fumiko?" Anna asked.

"No worries, she won the trial but she can't find the way out of the darker part of the purgatory." Mother revealed. "She needs you to perform one of the techniques she made with you back in our time that require all kinds of shamans."

My eyes widened and gawked at her. "The star of recalling?"

"Yes. She knows you can't do it on your own…" She shrugged for a moment and Anna chanted something to stabilize my mother's form. "Will all of you help?"

They all snickered confirming a yes to her. I smiled but it slowly disappeared as I remember something crucial about the spell.

"But I can't just pinpoint the location she is that reflects back in here. That's why we really can't perform it no matter if we had the exact amount of shamans to recall her." I pointed out and they sighed.

"I never knew such complicated spell exists." Yohmei commented.

"Well, it was Kimiko who started it." I answered.

They all looked at me quizzically until I remembered that none of them knew Fumiko's previous names. I mentally chuckled and I sighed.

"Kimiko is Fumiko's first incarnation." I revealed. "Then when I became a patch priest she was born as Chiyoko."

"Ah, that makes a lot of sense." Yoh grinned lazily and I vaguely smiled.

"But how are we gonna help her if we don't even have a single clue about her location?" Lyserg asked. "Is she had just at least left a single clue that would be a start."

"It's okay, it will work out somehow." Yoh commented and laughed.

"Danna, how could you be so cheerful at times like this?" Ryu asked.

"It's just being Yoh." Ren answered for him.

"If she won the trial thingy… why is she now sending any magic or something like that?" Tamao finally spoke up once again.

"Well, she's basically in a lion's den so to speak." Mother publicized. "Her speaking directly what she has to say is both her advantage and disadvantage."

"Then why doesn't she speak in riddles then?" Lyserg asked. "I'm sure I can figure those out."

"Stared amazed at the glowing fog!" Chocolove tried to make a joke on Lyserg's comment.

"Shut the hell up!" Yoh's gang yelled and surprisingly, Yoh was glaring too.

"Ah!" Tamao gasped as her kokkuri board and planchette flew out of her arms down to the ground and start spelling out words.

Sa, let's play a game.
