"Woo! People let's get this party started!" Tony announced as they arrived back at the fire together. A good number of people had left the party already, only the primary members of the Avengers having remained.
Though Sam frowned slightly when they arrived back, having not noticed the large beach house that had been on the beach. Every single light was turned on inside, further illuminating the ever darkening beach. The sun had set on their walk back to the fire pit yet the air was still warm. She wanted to know exactly how she had missed that.
"Who's up for chicken fights?" Tony yelled loudly, throwing his arms out wide.
Yeah, he's had a few... Sam thought to herself as she watched the dark haired man stagger around slightly.
"Chicken fights?" Thor asked her quietly, not understanding the strange Midgardian activity.
"Don't worry. It's really fun! Let's go!" She told him before tugging him forward with their still intertwined fingers. The God wordlessly followed behind her, a smile on his handsome face.
Hardly any of the other groups decided to play and somehow, Tony had gotten Steve to be his partner. Poor Steve.
"Bring it, Tony!" Samantha called to the dark haired man who only turned and smiled at her. Racing down to the water's edge, the woman laughed at Tony's childish behavior. He didn't even flinch as he sloshed into the water.
"Come on people! The water's great!" However, Sam watched as Adam and Jane stood up from where they had been seated around the fire, apparently partners in the battle that was about to ensue.
Also with inhuman like speed, Sam also sprinted down to the water's edge with Thor close on her heels. She was soon completely soaked again by the water but she didn't care.
"What must we do?" Thor asked as he brushed his own damp hair from his face as he came to stand beside Sam in the water.
"I get on your shoulders and we knock the other people off. We can totally win." She confided in him, knowing that they would be the strongest couple in the fight considering that both of them had super strength.
Bending down slightly in the water, Thor held his hands out and Sam crawled up onto his back again, situating her rear on his shoulders.
Standing up out of the water, Sam about fell off but Thor reached up and allowed her to hold fast to his hands. He just looked up at her and she beamed down at him.
Sam tried her best not to die laughing as she watched Tony try and get up on Steve's shoulders. The two men bickered nonstop and she had to admit that it was one of the funniest things she had ever seen.
"Bro, just stand still while I climb on your shoulders. How hard is that concept?" Tony barked at Cap as he splashed a little water in his direction. After about five more minutes, they finally stopped arguing and the dark haired man was balancing on Steve's shoulders.
"Hey! You two!" Thor turned upon hearing Tony's voice spoken in their direction. Sam also calmly gazed over at Stark. "No, God-lightning-evil-powers-stuff to help you win!" He scolded and Thor chuckled heartily, causing his shoulders to shake and Sam to nearly vibrate.
Without further ado, the chicken fights began. The beach was soon filled with laughing, splashing, and copious amounts of swearing. Even the bystanders upon the beach had began to chuckle as they watched the fights ensue.
In the end, Sam and Thor had won when they had destroyed Adam and Jane. The couple had a few more problems with Steve and Tony, simply due to the fact that Steve was immensely strong and Tony kept directing Cap to just run away because he was a pussy and didn't want Sam to hurt his beautiful face.
Once the chicken fights had ended, the people still gathered on the beach began to whined down. Sam had dried off and had placed her shorts and tank top back on, Thor following suit and replacing his own wife beater.
Tony, who had decided to have a few more beers, was wasted out of his mind. Steve, just like Samantha, could not get drunk so he was just quiet as he stared into the flames of the fire before him, thoughts about his passed flooding his mind. He hadn't had this much fun since before he was frozen. Natasha and Clint were the first people to head out, claiming that they had a mission in the next day or two and wanted to be ready for it.
Everyone waved as they headed for their car.
Coulson also left shortly after the assassins did, feeling uncomfortable as the oldest person at the party. Adam was also pretty tipsy and was getting sleepy. Plus, he had to work the afternoon shift at his job the next day. Well, that was gonna suck.
"You want me to take you back to your hotel?" Sam asked as she rose from her place on a driftwood log beside Thor.
"Yeah, that would be-"
"I'll take him." The blonde's head slowly swiveled to the side to see Jane sitting right beside her roommate, not having noticed her there before. She only narrowed her eyes in the brunette's direction.
"Alright. Drive safe then." She told the physicist before Adam hauled himself up off the ground and began to trudge towards what she assumed was Jane's rented Prius.
The beach soon got quiet after that. All that remained was Tony, Steve, Bruce, Thor, and Sam.
Conversation dropped to an all time low, seeing as how Sam was the only female still present and they couldn't break out the sexist jokes with her still around unless someone wanted to get punched.
Since Tony was the only one able to get drunk, he continued to drink, leaving the rest of the party to just talk quietly about the most random of subjects.
"So, Sam. I never heard what you did for a living before you got your powers." Steve said, causing the female to look away from the fire. She just leaned back on the log and smiled slightly, trying to think of a good way to describe her job.
"I drove cars... in movies." She explained, nodding her head as she picked her words carefully. Thor and Steve just looked very confused. "Like... really fast. And part of the time, idiotically."
"Oh, so like a professional stunt driver?" Her head turned to look at Bruce who had hit her job spot on. He had hardly spoken a word all night.
"Yeah."
"Cool. So, are you in any big movies? Anything I've seen?" She paused for a moment.
"I was in all the Fast and Furious movies. I was also in the first two Transformers and I was supposed to be in another movie but I was having issues with my powers at the time."
"Which one?"
"I was supposed to be in the third part of Transformers."
"No way!" He beamed over at her, having been a big fan of the show when he was little and when the newer movies came out. "Which car did you drive?"
"I... I drove Bumblebee." She admitted and Banner just smiled wider, the yellow car having been one of his favorite characters. "And I also drove Sideswipe in the second one. The two weren't usually together so when they offered me the job, I took it." She went onto explain and the doctor listened intently to every word she said.
"But you wanna know what the best part is?" She asked him and he only inclined his head, waiting for her answer. "They let me keep a Camaro!" She whispered to him and his eyes widened with wonder.
"That it... You have the coolest job in the world, Sam!" He admitted, shaking his head in disbelief.
"I'll take you for a ride sometime. Sure, the Camaro's got a throaty engine and a nice kick but it still rides pretty smooth." She added as an after thought and the doctor stuck out his hand.
"It's a deal!" They shook on it but after they let go, her stomach suddenly growled loudly, causing the remaining men in the circle to look at her.
"You require sustenance." Thor observed before reaching out and pulling her up from the ground.
Together, they walked towards the large house. The lights from inside lit up the beach as they walked towards it and once again, Thor reached down and intertwined their fingers together.
Music also blasted from the windows and the outdoor speakers.
Walking up the front steps onto the porch, they entered the home, only to find it to be empty. Looking back to the fire, Sam also took note that Tony wasn't around the fire either.
"Tony? Where are you?" She tried yelling over the music. There was no answer.
"Man of Iron! We require food!" Thor also bellowed and Sam leaned into him. Detangling their hands, he brought his arm around her shoulders.
Spotting a remote on the outside wall, Sam walked over and hit the pause button and the air around them became silent, the only sound to be heard was the fire crackling in the distance, accompanied by the sound of the rolling waves as they washed up on the beach.
"Tony? What are you doing?" They heard Banner call and they backed up from underneath the porch to stand down in the sand once again to stand beside their fellow teammates.
Looking up at where they were, her eyes widened when she caught sight of the billionaire dancing on one of the balconies of the home, beer in hand, and shirtless.
"Hey? Who stopped the music?" He whined, suddenly realizing that someone has shut off his tunes. Talk about delayed reaction time.
"Get down before you get yourself killed!" Sam yelled up at him, stomping her foot in the process.
"Make me!" He called back in a really high pitched, whinny voice, one that he was apparently using to mock her in some way though he failed miserably in the process.
"Mr. Stark, please get down!" Steve also insisted from his place beside her.
"You people can't make me do-" However his sentence was never finished as he suddenly fell back onto the balcony.
"Well, I guess that's one way to end a night." Steve chuckled slightly and Sam couldn't help but shake her head yet she smiled nonetheless.
Stepping away from Thor, she lifted off the ground and floated up to the balcony to find Stark passed out, beer spilling from the amber bottle still clutched tightly in his hand.
"Alright. Come on, Big Boy..." She bent down and hoisted him up so that he was somewhat standing on his feet. Throwing his arm over her shoulder, she began to drag him inside the house.
He just grumbled something under his breath the entire way inside. At least he wasn't totally knocked out.
"Where is your bedroom?" She said quietly into his ear.
"Hallway..." He slurred back, pointing with his free arm to their right. Finding a single door down the hallway he directed, she pushed it open and pulled him into the dark room.
Finding the bed in the dark was no problem and she pulled back the covers with her free arm before letting him simply collapse onto his mattress.
Letting out a startled groan, the billionaire just shifted and rolled over into his soft pillows.
"Sammy... You're my... best friend." He mumbled out quietly. She couldn't help the soft smile that tugged at her lips.
"Good night, Tony." She replied quietly before covering him with the comforter and moving to the door. Shutting it behind her, she padded back downstairs to find the guys in the living room watching football on ESPN.
Thor was hypnotized by the television so when she walked up and tugged on his hair, he flinched, not having heard her at all. She only laughed quietly before taking a seat next to him.
The four of them watched TV for another hour or so before Banner let out a loud yawn, showing just how tired he was.
"Well, I think I'm going to hit the sack, mind if I take the couch?" The doctor looked over at the two of them, his dark eyes half open.
"Sure. Go right ahead." She said as both her and Thor rose up from their seats.
"I think the doctor has the right idea. I'm going to go to bed, too." Steve informed them as he claimed the other couch in the room. Frowning, Sam looked about the room and found that all the remaining places were taken but her frown lessened when she felt a warm hand close around hers.
"I know a place where we can sit." He whispered in her ear and pulled her forward by her hand. Leading her out a sliding glass door, they walked back out onto the deck, this section uncovered, unlike the front.
Another fire was quietly flickering in the smaller pit, casting the entire area in a soft glow. The two walked over and approached a swinging chair and once they sat down, Thor's hand immediately circled her waist and pulled her closer to him.
Glancing up, she found that his eyes were upon her and her breath caught in her throat. Firelight danced inside his normally blue pupils. Leaning down, his other hand found her cheek and directed her face up towards his.
Their lips softly connected again before they began to move together. Sam was now used to what kissing actually was and found it to almost be second nature. It also helped that Thor knew what he was dong.
After a long moment passed, they broke away from each other, falling into silence as they did so.
Sam herself had never really been one for words and simply basked in the God's presence for a moment, completely content.
Thor himself was happy with simply staring at the mortal turned Asgardian in his arms. She gazed back up at him with her beautiful hazel eyes and he couldn't help but think to himself how lucky he was to have met her.
The God of Thunder had traveled across the Universe and to all nine realms. He had seen a number of beautiful and awe-inspiring things. However, it seemed as though Midgard was the luckiest of the realms, considering that the marvelous creature known as Samantha Greene called it home.
After a moment of simply staring into each other's eyes, her head fell back against Thor's shoulder and her hazel irises gazed up at the wondrous night sky. The stars above twinkled down upon them and the more she thought about it, the grander space seemed to be.
Millions and millions of miles away, huge, flaming gas balls burned for all eternity, suspended in a weightless space. Planets turned on their axis and various moons orbited them. Black holes turned without ceasing and comets flew through space. And now, Sam had to remember that out among those stars, was life. People actually lived out among the stars. And maybe one day, she would be able to visit them.
"Will you tell me about Asgard?" Thor glanced over at her and found that she was gazing up at the sparkling night sky.
Thor just thought to himself for a moment, realizing that they had had a similar conversation on the first night that they had met aboard the helicarrier yet she had fallen asleep.
"Asgard... is grand. Asgard is a home fit for the God's, as it is. The buildings in the city are all noble and golden and sparkle in the sunlight. The night sky is by far grander than the one here on Midgard. Other worlds are clearly visible from the palace balconies and I find it hard not to lose myself in the vastness and beauty of space even though, I need not look far with you by my side..." He trailed off. Looking down, he found that once again, Samantha had fallen asleep, cuddled into his warm side.
Perhaps she would never know of the grandness of Asgard.
Sighing through his nose, he then chuckled in disbelief before wrapping his arm tighter around her and resting his cheek upon her soft head. He just sat there for a moment, his mind running a million miles an hour as he gazed into the fire before them.
However, he was pulled from his thoughts when he felt the woman at his side shiver as the night air grew colder.
Wordlessly, he shifted his grip on her and lifted her up into his arms before standing, still surprised that she was such a heavy sleeper. He wondered what it would take to wake her up. Thor moved silently through the large beach house, his thick arms wrapped snugly around Sam. Usually, those same arms crushed his enemies and welded his strong hammer, but now, they were so gentle as they carried her about like she was the most precious thing in the entire Universe.
Striding up the stairs, it took a few minutes as Thor searched the second floor before he found an empty bedroom.
Kicking the door open with his foot, he walked over to the large bed in the center of the room. Slowly lowering her onto the mattress, he found himself reliving the night he had tucked her in.
Pulling the covers back on the bed, he carefully pulled her over before replace the comforter over the top. Brushing the stray hairs from her face, he gazed down at her lovely face for a moment before turning to leave the room.
With one last soft look, he stepped across the thresh hold.
