Ch 29

Hey all! This is the second last chapter of this party. Yay! We can move on to bigger and better things. I mean, we still don't know about Alyssa's kidnapping or mom so there. Plus I still have many things to screw up for these characters. Fun times to come.

Also, so many people love the Clintasha. It's nice to hear. I ship Clintasha as a hobby so I particularly like writing them.

"Hey! We actually survived a conversation!" I exclaim proudly to Steve.

"Yeah, it only took our fiftieth try." Steve rolled his eyes.

"That may be true but we finally did it. We were not terribly awkward at all! Who knew Natasha's advice worked?"

"Natasha." Steve deadpanned.

I just gave him a 'no shit' look after that. It made him laugh.

"What memory were you thinking about anyway?" I ask curiously.

"The time my friend Bucky took me to Coney Island." Steve said with a soft smile. "What about you?"

"Seoul, South Korea. I was fourteen on summer break with my parents before my last year at MIT. It was our last big trip as a family." I smile remembering that trip with my parents.

"You miss them a lot don't you?" Steve asks.

"Yeah, of course I do. I loved them very much. But I know they loved me and they would be proud of me. I can't dwell on it too much you know."

"I know. You have to remember all the good memories and not dwell on the fact that they are gone."

"Exactly."

"How's the night going you two?" Pepper asked coming up to us.

"Fine." I respond.

"Are you two going to head onto the dance floor?" she asked us.

"Maybe." Steve shrugged.

"You two should." Pepper continued.

"And piss off my dad even more?" I scoff until I realize something. "Ok, if we do this Steve we are making sure Tony is in full view." I turn to Steve dead serious.

Steve rolled his eyes. He's used to me trying to find ways to annoy Tony by now. "Whatever makes you happy sweetie." I could tell he was using his acting voice.

"You are really getting into your role there aren't you?" Pepper noted and raised her eyebrows at him.

"It's easier to just stay in character at this point." Steve informed her.

"How is that going with you two anyway? I know Tony is more agitated then ever." Pepper laughed.

"That's kind of my fault. I do this on purpose to bug the crap out of him." I nod as I take a sip of the drink in my hands.

"We know." Both Pepper and Steve look at me.

"What? Its fun." I shrug.

"I know you think that. But do you always have to drag me into it?" Steve pleaded.

"You're the easiest trigger I have. And your mighty effective I might add." I point out. Considering I often find ways to use Steve to annoy Tony.

"Speaking of Tony, where is he? I have hardly seen him." Pepper asked us.

Both Steve and me shook our heads in the negative.

"I haven't seen him for a while. I went to ask Clint and Natasha if they had seen him but they were otherwise… occupied." I tell Pepper.

"So we are looking for a billionaire in a crowd of billionaires… sounds simple." Steve states.

"Have you seen how many people that are here Steve? It's like we're looking for Waldo in a sea of Waldo's!" I exclaim.

"But it is Tony…" Pepper started.

"What is Tony?" Tony said from behind all of us.

All three of us turned to face him; Tony looked a smug as ever.

"Where were you?" Pepper asked.

"Oddly enough, looking for Capsicle." Tony pointed to the man beside me.

"Me?" Steve looked confused.

"Yes, now go. You know what to do." Tony stared at Steve intently. Both Pepper and me looked at each other not having a clue what was happening. But apparently Steve knew exactly what was going on as he gave a nervous nod and left.

What the hell is going on with them?

"What did my dad need you to do?" I ask Steve as he came to my side a few minutes after Tony sent him away.

"Nothing you need to concern yourself with." Steve shrugged it off. I looked at him sideways, if it involved the older Stark it couldn't be 'nothing I need to concern myself with.'

"Don't worry Aly. Everything is fine." Steve laughed at me.

We stood there silently on the outskirts of the action for a moment. Watching the party roll on, Pepper and Tony were dancing with one another sweetly. Any sweeter and I would want to puke my guts out. Clint and Natasha on the other hand were bickering away on the balcony. How long they had been there I had no idea but only those two could even begin to comprehend their relationship so I wouldn't dare question it.

"You want to go dance Alyssa?" Steve asked, breaking our comfortable silence.

"I can't really dance." I admit. "Cheesy goofy dancing sure but… I'm not Pepper." I point towards the woman in question to see her gracefully gliding along the dance floor with Tony.

"Neither can I." Steve looked at me. "And lets face it, no one is as good as the magnificent Pepper Potts in anything. But I'm sure the amazing Alyssa Stark can manage just fine."

"Remember, I'm Alyssa Rogers now. Not Stark." I look at up and remind him, we are in a public place after all. Steve just smiles at me.

"That's right, now in saying that I think my beautiful wife should dance me." Steve said almost stubbornly. "We do have to look the part and should at least try."

"Fair enough. But remember that I suck." I point at him as Steve pulls me to the dance floor. Once we get there we both just stare at each other for a moment. Eventually I put my hands on his shoulders and Steve puts his hands on my waist. We both try to get in step with the music but we both know we look ridiculous.

"You two need some help?" Pepper came to us a moment later.

"Yes please." I smile at her.

"Thank you for intervening Pepper." Steve thanks.

"Oh its no problem at all. Tony is laughing his head off over there. Seeing you two doing well will keep him at bay." She smirks and starts helping us out with our dancing.

We did significantly better.

"Clint, what's going on with you and Natasha?" I ask the archer when I see him sitting alone.

"What would make you think there is something is going on?"

"I caught you two looking like you just kissed each other or were about to and then a few minutes later bickering at one another. Then you two come back inside and act like nothing happened. Did something happen?" I continue.

"Alyssa, Nat and me have an understanding. There are lines and regulations. What you saw was both of us stepping over a line and us regulating it. Nothing is wrong. It's like you and your robots. When a robot does something it shouldn't do what do you do?"

"I fix it."

"Exactly. We did something we shouldn't have and we fixed it. Everything is back to normal. I'm just forty dollars poorer."

"It didn't look that simple." I sit beside Clint.

"As a human and as a keen spy and observer I can tell you humans are never simple."

"If we were then we'd be robots. But sometimes we can fix the problem." I shrug.

"Okay miss fix-it. Then re-write my code and fix all the circuits. What should I do?"

"I'd cut some lines. Tell her what we already know. There are some unnecessary wires in you and Natasha's circuit board." I say as I get up and leave him to think.

"What are you doing with that drink?" Alyssa asked Steve as she came towards him. Steve was still playing personal waiter for Tony.

"Um maybe I'm drinking it."

"Yeah right. You don't drink Steve. I do."

"Fitting in?"

Alyssa looked at him suspiciously. "Oh no…" Alyssa realized. "You're getting that for my dad aren't you?"

"What? No!" Steve defended.

Alyssa stared the man down, which is impressive as she is shorter than Steve by almost a foot. "I can't believe you… you know Pepper banned Tony from drinking tonight right?"

"I know but…"

"But what? My dad threaten you again? You can't let him intimidate you like this!"

"Okay, your upset. But just so you know Tony didn't threaten me. He accused me of not caring."

"That doesn't make this any better! It makes it worse! Pepper is going to be mad because Tony will be dunk tonight and that is exactly what she was trying to avoid."

"Do you know why Tony wants to drink?"

"Does it really matter?"

"Its because of us! He doesn't like the pretending! I can at least help him out a bit."

Alyssa looked up at him looking extremely calm. "Steve, I'm sure your familiar with the saying 'happy wife, happy life' right? Well, even though this is a fake marriage, if you don't fix this I will make your life a living hell." She turned away and left Steve shocked and slightly scared. Steve now had to decide whom he feared more, Iron Man or his daughter.

Either way it wasn't looking good.

"Hey Cap." Clint said with a chuckle as he watched Steve sit down beside him. "What happened to you?" he asked the obviously distraught captain.

"Alyssa happened."

Clint raised a brow. "Doesn't narrow it down Cap. Alyssa does a lot of things. So unless your trying to tell me you have discovered you have an undying love for her, if you don't narrow it down I'll be at a loss here."

Steve gave him a 'really?' look. "No, not close. Did you know Tony's banned from the bar?"

"Yeah."

"Long story short Tony got me to get him drinks to by-pass the bar. Alyssa just found out and is mad I did such."

"Oh. Want my professional advice?"

"Your not a professional Barton. Your probably the farthest from a professional."

"But remember that Alyssa is part Stark and part Red Room graduate. I spend way more time with Stark out here than you do. And I am partners with the Black Widow. Alyssa is also like – no, not like- is literally my kid sister. I know the kid pretty well. I can try."

"What do I do?"

"Wait… you actually want my advice?"

"Yes."

"Captain America, the star spangled man with a plan wants my advice? Well, this is a special day for ol' Hawkeye. I shall treasure this moment for the rest of my…"

"If you don't start with the actual advice giving I will sock you in the jaw and walk away."

"Okay! No need to get violent!"

"Then what do you have that will help me not feel so… conflicted."

"Honestly, no matter what I say you're screwed."

"What?"

"Yeah. If you don't do what Stark says you will meet your end by repulsor. You go against Alyssa… she's your wife. You don't wanna get on her bad side."

"Barton."

"Yes?"

"Worse. Advice. Ever. All you did was tell me what you already know."

"Here is my advice. Actual advice. Pick Tony. Alyssa will eventually forgive you. Tony has had a grudge against you since the words 'Steve is my husband' came out of Alyssa's mouth. And plus maybe after Alyssa cools off she will say sorry and be so sorry she will try to get you to forgive her and… well…" Clint stopped giving advice and instead wiggled his eyebrows suggestively.

"Clint if you are suggesting…" Steve started.

"He is suggesting that you and Alyssa will have sex. Clint leave." Natasha interrupted.

"By the way, Stalyssa. I think that's the name." Clint said as he begrudgingly left the table with a huff and Natasha took his place giving him a look telling him to 'drop the names'.

"Want to give me your two cents Romanoff?" Steve asked the redhead.

"No. But I will say if you follow what Clint said you will not fair well." Natasha shrugged.

"So I live with Alyssa being mad?"

"No. Alyssa will forgive you eventually. Clint was right about that part. What you should do is say sorry. You say it to Alyssa and to Pepper. Alyssa told Pepper about Tony getting drinks. You say sorry to them and promise to never let Tony get to you again. That will make this right. You will be on Alyssa's good side."

"So I say sorry."

"You already knew that saying sorry was what you had to do." Natasha smiled as she got up to leave and patted Cap on the shoulder when doing so.

"I'm sorry."

"What? What you say Steve?" Alyssa turned from Pepper to stare at him.

"I said I'm sorry. Alyssa, Pepper I am sorry. I am sorry I was sneaking Stark alcohol. I shouldn't have especially as I already had figured out he was banned from the bar." Steve looked to the floor ashamed.

"Its fine captain. Really. No harm no fowl." Pepper smiled as she walked away.

"Alyssa?" Steve watched her still staring at him.

"You're an idiot you know that?" she said as she slowly smiled at him.

"Yes, I am."

"Did you really think giving into my dad was a good idea?" Alyssa walked up to Steve.

"I should have known better. You were right."

"I'm always right." Alyssa said putting her hands on Steve's shoulders.

"No you're not."

"I'm pretty close though."

"Sometimes I'm right when your not." Steve tried.

"Name one time that's happened?" Alyssa cocked her head.

"Aly I think we've had this conversation before." Steve smiled as he put his hands on Alyssa's waist and slowly starts to unconsciously sway the two of them to the music.

"We have at least… twice before." Alyssa laughed and Steve's laugh soon followed.

"We really like to fight about who is right more." Steve thought about it. She was right, they had had that conversation twice before and this was the third.

"We do. That's just what we seem to do." Steve watched Alyssa shake her as she said the words.

Then out of the blue a rubber arrow lands in between them. Alyssa took the arrow and sees a piece of paper attached. She opened it up and looked at it. her face changed quickly.

"I'm going to murder Clint." She declared as she walked towards the direction the arrow came from.

"What was it?" Steve questioned.

"Look for yourself." Alyssa passed the paper to him.

Steve opened up the now crumpled paper.

JUST KISS ALREADY! –CB

"Oh come on Clint!"

"Barton! What the hell were you thinking?" Alyssa stormed towards the archer.

"Currently? About nachos, strangely enough."

"Explain this then?" Steve showed him the note.

"I guess you two didn't take the notes advice…"

Natasha, who was beside Clint the whole time, took the note from her partner. "Really Clint?" she looked towards him after she read the note. "I go to the bathroom for one minute."

"And I try to help?"

"Clint you are not some type of cupid. That was not helpful, just annoying." Alyssa said angrily.

"Why are you two so mad? It could just be joking around and you could just be taking it way too seriously." Clint asked.

"I have a strong feeling you weren't joking." Steve stared Barton down.

"How about you two don't worry about it? Alyssa I think Tony was looking for you. I will take care of Barton." Natasha pulled Barton away.

"Pepper yelled at me." Tony told me when I found him.

"I figured." I said crossing my arms over my chest.

"She wants me to say sorry to Capsicle."

"I figured that much as well."

We stayed quiet for a moment.

"You aren't going to say sorry are you? Too much Stark arrogance right? Instead a snarky comment?"

"You think that little of me?"

"No. You can say sorry. I've seen you do such. You just don't when you feel the need to put of a fake face. You seem to do the same around Steve."

"You noticed?"

"I noticed when its just me and Pepper you are different. Heck, you're even different around Clint. Oh and by the way you are terrible with Steve. If I didn't know better I'd say you hate him."

"I don't hate Spangles." Tony shrugged.

"I never said you did dad. I would like you to not be distant. Like it our not you're stuck with him for a while and now I don't just want you to be civil. I want… I need you to be nice. You had no right to intimidate Steve and put him the position you did."

"You know, the way your talking now makes me think you could have been a lawyer."

"Don't avoid the question dad. Please say sorry. For just once."

"You're mad Alyssa."

"I am. Dad, I know what you think, I know you are trying to respect my decisions but you intimidating Steve is not helping make this easier. So just…"

"Alright. You are right. I am sorry and I will say sorry to Rogers."

"Thank you."

"I just want you to be happy. I want you to be loved Alyssa. Truly be loved. You deserve that." Tony said bringing me into a hug.

"I know you think that I do. Mind you that is not my goal. You don't need to worry about me dad. You take care of Pepper and make her happy. Steve and me will make sure I am safe."

"Will I ever know why you need to be protected in this manner in the first place?"

"You want the truth?"

"Yes. You might as well just tell me. I can hack into it anyway."

"I know you could hack into it. But I am not sure I will say everything."

"Then give me a hint."

"Natasha and me might be closer alike then you think."
