Darren drove home silently. He had finally stopped crying, but even so he was hurting so much. Damn Chuck and Casey, their talk of marriage had single handily destroyed his relationship with Chris. Darren was glad that Chuck wasn't at home any more, he wasn't sure that he could face him any time soon.

As Darren pulled up to his parent's house, he got a flash of Chris's smiling face sitting in the car a month ago when they last pulled up to this house. Darren closed his eyes tightly and gulped heavily, he could do this; he needed time alone to sort out his thoughts. He needed to know if he was ready for marriage. Unfortunately for Darren he would wait too long.

Darren felt the hot prickling at the corners of his eyes, tears were threatening to break through his closed eye lids. He gulped again and started to breathe heavily, he needed to calm down enough to walk inside his home.

Darren blindly reached for the door handle and pushed the car door open. He could do this.

Darren got his bags from the back of his car and slowly dragged them up to the front of the house. He paused by the door and took a depth breath. He knocked twice and waited.

He saw a figure grow bigger in the misty glass.

'Darren, what are you doing here?' Cerina asked brightly after she had opened the door. 'Is everything alright?' she asked after seeing his expression. Darren didn't answer, all he did was throw himself at his mother and broke down completely, letting his emotions take control of his body.

Chris was staring blankly at the TV. That could not have happened, they had been happy, just the week before they had talked about moving to a bigger place, and now…

Chris gasped and felt more tears leak out of his eyes. He needed something to take his mind off this pain, he needed to comfort himself after his first ever break-up.

Chris stumbled to his feet and slowly made his way over to the DVD box he kept under the TV set. Chris grabbed his favourite musical, even though it was a romance, he needed to watch Moulin Rouge, he needed to call his family. He would do that tomorrow, he could only imagine Hannah's reaction, she hated bad things that happened to her older brother.

Chris put the DVD into the player and pressed play on the remote. He slowly made his way back and settled down on the couch, making sure not to take the blanket that was draped over the couch, trying not to think about the gleaming razor that was lying peacefully next to him on the coffee table. After Darren had left, Chris had went into the bathroom and grabbed the razor, he had nearly cut himself but stopped at the last minute, he needed to feel this pain, he needed to get over Darren and allowing himself to feel like this would help, he hoped.

Chris watched the movie blankly, not taking in a word that the characters were saying, all he could think about was Darren Criss. He was filling up every thought he had. A small part of Chris's mind was telling himself that what he was doing was bad, but Chris felt less hurt when remembering his time with Darren.

Chris finally gazed at the TV when their song came on, "Come What May", Chris had forgot about this song. He felt fresh sorrow wave over him. He felt a giant lump in his throat contract as he heard the first notes of the son issuing from his TV.

Never knew I could feel like this
Like I've never seen the sky before
Want to vanish inside your kiss

Darren was upstairs in his old bedroom, he was lying under a blanket that his mother had gotten him. She had been shocked when Darren had told her that he broke up with Chris. She didn't question him but led him up the stairs and into his room. Darren was staring at a picture of Chris that was sitting on his nightstand, he forgot that he had left it there. As he was staring at Chris's angelic features he heard a song play in his mind, a song that he hoped he would never have to hear again.

Every day I love you more and more
Listen to my heart, can you hear it sing
Telling me to give you everything
Seasons may change winter to spring
But I love you until the end of time

How wrong those lyrics were Chris thought as he watched Christian sing to Satine. Lies, they were all lies. Chris's hand was edging towards the razor that was lying there, he knew he shouldn't, he knew the best thing to do was to turn the TV off and go to bed, but he stared, transfixed at the screen, allowing his thoughts to turn to Darren again, wondering if he was thinking about him. Chris felt more tears prickle the corners of his eyes, he needed the escape; he needed physical pain to stop the emotional turmoil he was feeling.

Come what may, come what may
I will love you until my dying day

Darren sat up slowly, he knew the one thing that would make him feel better. He groped around his dark bedroom, heading towards the bookshelf that was pushed up against the blue wall. Slowly he reached up and grabbed the much worn version of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's stone, it was his happy place. He lowered it from the shelf and carried it over to his bed. He felt around his bedside table, accidentally knocking over the picture of Chris. Darren sat there in the dark, stunned at what he had just done, it was only a picture but he felt like he had hit the real Chris.

Suddenly the world seems such a perfect place
Suddenly it moves with such a perfect grace
Suddenly my life doesn't seem such a waste
It all revolves around you

Chris stopped, his hand was inches away from the razor; he was still staring transfixed at the TV. He slowly moved his hand away from the razor and instead he grabbed the remote and flicked the TV off. He was now sitting in silence, a silence that was still ringing with the song. Chris stood up suddenly and made his way over to the front door. With a shaking hand he locked it and moved away from it, the yellow paint was staring at him, reminding him that an hour ago he was happy, an hour ago he still had a boyfriend. Later in life Chris was pleased that he had no alcohol in his house for at that moment he felt like he could drain a whole bottle of vodka, like he needed to. Chris shook his head slightly and made his way across the room to his bedroom.

And there's no mountain too high no river too wide
Sing out this song and I'll be there by your side
Storm clouds may gather and stars may collide
But I love you until the end of time

Darren had turned his light on, but he wasn't reading, he couldn't read, not after what he had done. Should I call him he asked himself. NO shouted the rational part of his brain. He needed some rest. Darren could still hear Come What May playing in his head, it was driving him mad.

Come what may, come what may
I will love you until my dying day
Oh come what may, come what may
I will love you

Suddenly the world seems such a perfect place...

Chris took one look at the bed and ran from the room, he made it back to the couch and collapsed onto it, sinking into its cushiony depths, allowing his tiredness to take over his body, feeling a little bit of relief from the jiggered pain that was coursing through his body. He slowly drifted off to sleep, his mind was blissfully blank at that moment. Little did Chris know it but it would be a whole year until he heard Come What May again at that day would be one of the best in his life.

Come what may, come what may
I will love you until my dying day

Darren turned off his light and stared into the darkness that swallowed him up. He was alone, he was unhappy and he had lost the love of his life.
