A/N: Wow, so I've finally released a new chapter. I know it's been like, a hundred years, and many (Incl. Me) thought I'd never actually get around to completing this story or even adding a new chapter. Well... this is me saying, the wait is finally over, I intend to complete and post the rest of the story within the next 24 hours (but let's say 48 to be on the safe side).
I had written more of the fix a while back with the intention of completing it before posting, but some how, the chapters got lost on an external hard drive (yes, I do mean I lost the hard drive). So the remaining chapters are not what I originally had in mind, and to be fair, I'm not sure exactly what that was (it was ... 6? Years ago). But alas (yes, I just said 'alas'), I always said I'd complete this story one day. And today, 'one day' has finally come. Enjoy!
Thanks to everyone for the reviews and awesome comments!
And thanks, as always, to Kate - it'd be weird posting more of any fic on here without saying 'hi' and thanks.
McGee dropped his report onto Gibbs' desk and smirked at the satisfying sound it made. It was finally done. The people who were responsible for this whole wicked plot were either dead or behind bars.
McGee sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose, trying to stave off the headache that had been building since the beginning of the day - or was it yesterday morning? Tony would probably tell him it was all the tension that was going around or something relating to his sex life - or lack thereof.
"Okay, I'm here,' McGee heard somebody announce from behind him.
Turning around revealed . "Yes, you are Jimmy," McGee responded, waiting for him to continue
"Uh, so... hmm," Jimmy said, glancing around, as if waiting for directions, "Why am I here?"
"Well, I imagine because you rode the elevator up and walked out to the bullpen," McGee responded, only feeling a little guilty about being snarky, "Are you caught up now?"
Jimmy frowned and was about to say something when Alicia - the very good looking agent from the bullpen next to theirs saved him by responding, "Actually, Morrow called us, Jimmy,"
"Oh. We have another case?" McGee asked, disappointed for a variety of reasons
"No, you're done for the day," Tom Morrow himself answered, as he walked in beside Ziva, who'd spontaneously disappeared an hour ago. "In fact, I want your team off for the rest of the week, Agent McGee,"
"Special Agent Eastman will drive you to the hospital. I know you are all capable of driving yourselves, but I don't want something to happen because you're feeling fatigued," Morrow continued
"Sir, I thought you wanted me to drive yourself as well?" Alicia asked
"I want to finish the paperwork from this case before I see Jethro, and I'm sure I'll be talking with the President before the day is through," Morrow responded, picking up the stack of paperwork in Gibbs' in-tray
"Gibbs isn't doing too good, Sir. Abs rang earlier to tell me he's been taken back into surgery," McGee told him
Morrow nodded, "Keep me updated, I want to know the minute he's out of surgery,"
"Of course, Sir," McGee responded, grabbing his backpack from behind his desk, "Okay, let's get out of here,"
"Tim, send my regards to Gibbs. I do not believe he would wish for me to be there," Ziva said, leaning against her desk
"Oh, for the love of - !" McGee exhaled sharply, "Do not give me that BS! You are as much a part of this team as anybody! You are coming with us to the hospital!"
Ziva widened her eyes in surprise, "Timothy - "
"No, don't 'Timothy' me. Get your arse in gear. Gibbs wasn't himself, and he will understand your reasons for ... doing everything you did. End of discussion!" McGee snapped, daring Ziva to try and argue with him again.
When she clamped her mouth shut, McGee focussed on Jimmy, who was looking for all the world like they were going to leave him behind, but was too..afraid? to speak up. "Jimmy?" McGee prodded, trying to soften his tone, but failing by all accounts, "Why are you still standing there?"
Jimmy frowned, "Because I - "
"I think that was your invite to go," Alicia supplied helpfully, dangling the keys, causing Jimmy to grin
Morrow chuckled, "Well, it's good to see you starting to come in to your own, Special Agent McGee,"
"Thank you, Sir," McGee said, feeling his cheeks go red, "Ah, I don't mean to be rude, but ..."
"Yes, go. And keep me updated," Morrow interrupted
"Do you have to drive so fast?" Jimmy asked as Ziva skidded around another corner
"And like such a maniac," Alicia muttered under her breath, still a bit pissed that Ziva had 'insisted' on driving
"McGee doesn't mind," Ziva pointed out, with a glance at the passenger seat, where McGee had dozed off almost the minute he'd buckled himself in
"I'm not convinced you didn't put something in his coffee," Alicia responded, with a half glare, half stare at the sleeping man
"Would I do that?" Ziva asked, semi-innously
"Yes!" Jimmy and Alicia replied at the same time, before grinning stupidly at each other
"Rule 12, Jimmy," Ziva said, after swerving back onto the wrong side of the road to get passed a 'slow' driver
Jimmy looked confused for a moment, then announced, "Never mess with a doctor's caffeinated beverage of choice," then explained to Alicia, "Ducky amended it a few years ago from 'Never mess with a doctor's tea' because he didn't like the exclusionary nature of - "
"*Gibbs'* rules, Jimmy!" Ziva interrupted
"Always wear gloves at a crime scene?" Jimmy guessed, with an eyeroll at Alicia
"Try again," Ziva responded
"Always carry a knife?" Jimmy asked
Ziva raised her eyebrows, not expecting that one, "Never date a coworker,"
Jimmy went pale and started stammering, whilst Alicia turned the other way, having gone a fascinating shade of pink. Thankfully for the two, the sound of a phone ringing interrupted the conversation.
"McGee," they heard him croak, followed by a few 'yes's and 'ah ha's
"Gibbs is out of surgery" McGee finally announced as he hung up, pushed a few buttons on his cell, then raised it to his ear again, "Sir, McGee. Gibbs is out of surgery. He's critical, but stable,"
