It had been an hour or so since John and Lita came back from the first shooting lesson. Lita realized it wasn't that difficult to shoot a gun, but it was hard to hit the intended target. It was really frustrating, but she knew it would take time. Maybe she would be lucky and Matt wouldn't be too far from away from her and she could easily hit his head or heart or anywhere that would kill him right away. She almost wanted to go out and find Matt and finish this once and for all, but maybe waiting for him to come to her would be better because than self defense would be believable in Court. For a second she didn't even care about that. She didn't care if she spent the rest of her life in prison, she just wanted Matt out of her life forever. However that time came, she hoped it would come sooner rather than later.

Lita was reading a book Dawn suggested to her earlier. Or at least she was trying to read it. It wasn't interesting at all, she found it very boring, but decided to give it a chance because her friend really liked it. Maybe it was just a slow start and it would get better soon. Well, she didn't count on it. It wasn't like there was anything else to do so why not just give it a chance? John, on the other hand, was was ready to get some sleep. It was a long week at work and he could use some, unfortunately for him, sleep wasn't in his near future.

"Ugh, what now?" John groaned when he heard his phone right just when he was about to get into bed and go to sleep. He was about to ignore the call, but then he saw it was Edge calling so he answered. "Make this quick."

"I'm going to kill that bitch so I need you to be here for when she wakes up and sees I'm not here. I need you to explain to her that I'm spending the rest of my life in jail because that bastard is finally dead and I put an end to it so it's safe to go to work or other places again."

John was a little confused even though he knew when Edge said 'bitch' and 'bastard,' he was talking about Matt and when he said 'she' he was pretty sure he was talking about Dawn. He had a horrible feeling about this. "Try and calm down and tell me what happened."

"He got to her. He attacked her."

"Just to clarify, you're talking about Matt and Dawn?" John didn't know why he asked that question especially with how Edge reacted afterwards.

"Yes John! I'm talking about that asshole and Dawn! Who else would I be talking about?!"

"Alright. I just wanted to make sure." He was about to tell Edge to calm down again, but that obviously wouldn't go over well with him. "What happened? How is she?"

"I don't know exactly what happened. All I know is that she was found at the bottom of the steps all... She has some broken bones. She's unconscious and... their waiting for her to regain consciousness. The doctors are saying she will, but there's always a chance she won't and if she won't, then..." Edge trailed off. It wasn't like he needed to finish what he was going to say because John already knew what he was about to say.

"Okay. I'll be there in a few. Just don't do anything rash."

"Yea well, I need you here before I can do anything."

John was about to say something, but then he heard the dial tone coming from the other end and he knew the other man hung up. He too hung up the phone and was about to leave, but he saw Lita sitting on the couch and reading a book when he walked into the living room and he realized he had to tell her what was going on.

"Good book?" John asked after he walked over closer to Lita who only noticed his presence when he spoke.

Lita looked up from the book and shook her head. "Not really. I don't even know what's going on. I keep reading the same page multiple times. There's nothing else to do so I'm trying to give it a chance. I'm about to give up though."

"Oh," was all John said which made Lita think something was wrong. There had to be a reason why he was back in the living room when he went to his room not long ago to get some sleep.

"Is everything okay?" Lita asked after a moment of silence.

"Um, yes. No. Not really. I mean, it will be. I'm pretty sure it will be, just not right now."

Lita closed the book and put it down before continuing. "What's wrong?"

"Dawn-"

"Is she okay?"

"-is in the hospital."

Lita didn't say anything for a moment. She immediately thought the worst. But maybe Dawn being in the hospital had nothing to do with Matt. Maybe she was sick. Hopefully she was sick. "Is she sick?" She asked even though she had a bad feeling about this. She felt naive for even asking that, but she was really hoping whatever reason her friend was in the hospital had nothing to do with Matt.

John shook his head and looked away. "I'm afraid not. That would be better. How sad is that that we were hoping she was sick and that's why she's in the hospital?" He looked back over at Lita and noticed she looked like she was on the verge of tears. He walked over to where she was sitting on the couch and sat down next to her. "She'll be okay. I'm sure of it. It's a couple of broken bones," he said conveniently leaving out the fact that she was unconscious at the moment. "She'll be okay," he said once again even though he wasn't sure if he believed that himself or not.

Lita didn't say anything in response to any of what John was saying to her. She couldn't help but think how this was all her fault. She let her friend get in the middle of this and now Dawn was paying for it. She knew the tears were beginning to fall down her face, but she really didn't care about that. "First Jeff, then Melina and I don't understand why he went after Melina in the fist place. I mean, she wasn't even my friend. It seems like he's going after friends and family and she was neither. He actually killed her. Then he kills my dad and now he goes after Dawn. Who's next? He's not going to stop. I know there's a part of him that thinks I'll go back to him. Maybe I should. Then it could be easier to kill him."

"Lita-"

"I should leave from here," Lita cut him off from saying whatever it was he was about to. "You still have time to get out. He'll probably spare you if you stop trying to protect me. Thanks for everything, but I can't keep letting you help me."

"I think I should be the one to decide that, don't you?"

Lita shook her head. "No. John, you already went through this with your mom. You actually got shot. I can't... you can't keep doing this. He'll come after you sooner or later."

"I'll handle him-"

"Like everyone else who he went after did?! He could have killed Jeff! He killed my dad and Melina! Dawn could probably dying right now, we don't know that!"

"Lita-"

"Why are you helping me?! Your mom is your mom so I understand you getting involved then, but not right now! We were hardly ever friends. Why are you helping me." Her voice got weaker towards the end because she was now full on crying.

John hesitantly hugged her, not knowing how she would react. Thankfully, she gave in easily and didn't back away scared or anything like that. "I like to think we're friends now and we have been for the last few months. I'm not going to let you go back to him. That's never going to happen so don't even think about it. As for helping you before, my friends came to me seeking my assistance to help out their friend so I wasn't going to turn my back on you when I know you needed help. I'm not going to do that now either. I'm not afraid of Matt. I know I can handle him. He won't do anything to me and I promise you I won't let him get to you again."

Lita removed herself from John's embrace when she felt herself calming down a bit. She wiped away at her face before she looked up at him and spoke. "He'll still get to me mentally even if he's not getting to me physically. Like right now. With Dawn."

"He won't get away with this."

"Yes he will. He's gotten away with everything else he's done. Same thing with this."

John shook his head. "He's not. This is different."

"How can you be so sure?"

"I just am." He continued before Lita could question him about that. "I told Edge I would be there soon and that was like fifteen minutes ago. Let's go." He got up and waited for Lita to do the same, but she didn't. "Lita-"

"No," the woman shook her head and the man could tell she was about to start crying all over again. "I can't. Edge probably doesn't even want to see me there. Same with Dawn. They probably hate me and I don't hate them. Edge is probably so pissed."

John nodded as he sat back down next to her. "He is, just not at you. You didn't do anything. That psycho, on the other hand, did. He's not angry with you. He's angry with the right person. He's waiting for us to get there before he goes out and hunts Matt down-"

"Good. And I'll help him."

"That's not necessary. Matt will not get away with this and he will pay for this. And I don't mean by you or Edge killing him. The law will finally handle this the right away."

"Why do you keep saying that?"

"I just know it." Lita didn't say anything so he continued. "Let's go then?" The redhead looked like she was about to protest, but the brunette didn't let her. "Lita, neither of them blame you for anything. You are not responsible for somebody else's actions. You're not the one who attacked Dawn. She's going to be fine and when she is, I'm sure she would want to see her best-friend is okay and she can only do that if you're there next to her."

Lita thought about it for a moment then nodded as she stood up with John doing the same. "Let's go."

It took about twenty minutes for John and Lita to arrive at the hospital where Dawn was being treated. They went to her room after finding out where she was. Once they got there, they saw Edge pacing back and forth. He looked very angry and upset. Dawn was still lying in the bed, seemingly unconscious.

"Oh God," Lita said when she saw Dawn's head bandaged up and her left arm and left leg looked like those were the broken bones because they were in a cast. "I'm sorry," she continued after walking over closer to her unconscious friend. She backed up a little when she felt she was too close. She didn't want to get too close, thinking she would break her more than she already looked. "I'm so sorry."

"Great, you're here," Edge said after he heard Lita and saw she, along with John, had joined him in the room. He was more so talking to John than he was to Lita. "I probably won't be able to come back here. I do expect you to visit me, so I'll see you from my cell." He was about to leave, but John grabbed him and stopped him from doing so. "Get the hell off of me Cena. I will beat the shit out of you first if I have to."

John did no such thing. He knew Edge would go through with his threat right now especially with how pissed off he looked, but he wasn't afraid of his friend. "No. Listen to me first. What you're thinking right now is a really stupid thing. If you just wanna beat the crap out of him, then I'll let you go, but-"

"Yea and get killed in return." Lita didn't realize she said that out loud until she saw both men now looking at her. "What? It's the truth. I'm pretty sure Matt's ready for someone to come after him. Your best shot is killing him without him seeing you. You get in a fight with him, then he'll pull out a weapon from nowhere and kill you."

"No one is killing anyone. Okay? He's already on trial for Melina, add this and he won't get away with it."

"Why do you keep saying that?" Lita asked annoyed. "He's done so much crap and the only thing he got caught with is attacking Melina. Those were different cops handling that case which is why they're actually doing something. I'm pretty sure the same assholes who ignored me are the ones handling this case."

John shook his head. "They're not." He continued after he saw the questioning looks on their faces. "I called and found out when you went to your room before we came here. I had to tell them something which is why I know he'll get caught." He glanced between the two. "There was something Dawn didn't want to tell either of you because she didn't want to worry you. And both of you should understand that because you didn't tell her about the gun. Anyways, she felt like she was being followed and she told me. She also told me she wanted to put video cameras around her office and I helped her with that. The officers in charge of this case should be getting through hands on them soon. Plus, the person who found Dawn at the bottom of the steps saw someone fleeing the scene. He gave the cops a description and it probably fits Matt. I don't know, because they wouldn't tell me too much. Put both Melina and Dawn together and he's not a first time offender anymore." He focused his attention to Lita before continuing. "You should tell them about what happened in the elevator. Sure you don't have proof, but that doesn't matter because you complained before, we can always bring that up. Oh and obviously we can bring up Dawn and Melina so you haven't been lying."

"No. No one is ever going to believe me. I don't want to talk about any of it when no one is going to believe me."

"He can get away with just probation. Do you really want that?" Lita simply shook her head. "Then you have to tell them about the elevator and then you can bring up everything that's happened in the past. Do this for Dawn. Do this for Melina. Do this for your family. Do this for yourself."

Lita looked over at Dawn and nodded. "It's worth a shot."

"Doesn't matter because he'll be dead," Edge said, trying to leave once again after he managed to get out of John's hold.

"Stop." The three looked over to where Dawn was lying when they heard a quiet voice. She wasn't unconscious anymore. "I heard most of what you guys were talking about. John's right. Let the cops handle this. I'm all for killing him, but let's see how the justice system handles this first."

"I vote for no."

"Edge, please."

Edge walked over to his wife. "I'm sorry. I should have went with you. This wouldn't have happened if I just went with you."

"Maybe not, but he would have caught me by myself sooner or later. It's not your fault." Dawn looked over at Lita who looked like she was about to start crying again. "It's not your fault either. Neither of you were the ones who pushed me down the stairs or attacked me before that. Look, I'm really tired so both of you better not argue with me right now. We're going to win this and that's all that matters."

"We'll win this when he's dead," Edge said with Lita thinking the same thing. Secretly, both John and Dawn were thinking the same, but they didn't say anything about it because they knew the blonde man was ready to go out there and made sure that happened himself. Also, both were positive that Matt would be rotting in prison for a long time.
