Chapter 29- War and Peace

I laid in the nurse's office for half an hour. My migraine finally went away.

"thanks" I tell the nurse as I walk out. Going down the hallway, I begin thinking about what I'll find in the classroom. Going through the options, most of them seem ridiculous. The room could be gone; sucked up by a magic portal. I wish, anything but to have to face the two girls right now. Probably not gonna happen though; darn.

Maybe everyone got tired and fell asleep. The room would be full of silence where I can sit and think things over. Ha! Nice one Bella!

Alice and Leah could have killed each other. I push that thought out of my mind. I don't know what I would do without Alice. And Leah, she's a good friend.

Finally back at the class room, I brace myself before opening the door. Slowly walking in and looking around I realize it's not as bad as I thought it would be. Half of the class is asleep or working on homework. Some are listening to music or reading.

I sit back in my seat and glance at Alice and Leah. They're both starring at their desks and not speaking. All the time I had at the nurses office and I still hadn't thought about how to solve what happened this morning. I guess I was a little mad at Alice. Alice must be mad at me and Leah. Leah...well she's probably mad at a few people...

Just perfect, everyone has someone to be mad at right now. I don't know if I'm exactly mad at Alice. I guess, I just want to understand what was going through her head. Maybe she had good intentions? If so, then how can I be mad at her? Leah must be thinking the same thing, or something to that effect. She's not glaring at Alice and she doesn't look angry.

Alice doesn't look like she's angry either. She's just starring at her desk thinking. If she was mad, she would have talked to me about it last week, right? We were with each other for like 6 hours yesterday watching movie's and she didn't mention it. She didn't mention being mad, or bring up Leah. Then again, she didn't say she went on my phone and blocked Leah's number either. I sigh and lay my forehead on my desk.

If we're not all angry, then what are we? Sad? No, I mean we all have reasons to be sad, but that doesn't have to do with this. Depressed? No, no one really seems that way, still an option though. Maybe jealous? That's another option I guess, even though I don't feel jealous of anyone. So we're either depressed or jealous. That doesn't feel right. I'll have to keep thinking about this.

The bell rings and it's time for our next class. We mostly take notes. I mostly think. A few classes go by and now it's time for Spanish. At least I can see whats going on in Leah's head now.

I sit down in my normal seat in the back. Leah walks in a minute later. She seems to be deep in thought because she almost trips over her desk. Catching her arm I help her regain her balance.

"looks like everyone's on edge today." I say with a light chuckle. She sends me a nervous smile.

"sorry about everything." she says. I raise an eyebrow.

"what do you mean? Non of this is your fault. If anything it's mine." I mutter back. She shakes her head.

"Bella its not your fault your girlfriend and I don't get along. Our personalities clash I guess that's what you could call it." she says with a sad look in her eyes.

A kid comes around passing out papers. The paper has a lot of easy vocabulary words. The teacher explains that we need to write a simple story in Spanish including all the words. Once she says we can work in pairs Leah and I automatically look at each other. The teacher sits down and we have the rest of class to translate the words.

"wanna work with me?" I ask before she can. She nods.

"would Alice get mad?" she asks quietly. I shake my head.

"it's for school work. I'll tell her that you're the only person I talk to in this class so I'm working with you." I say simply.

"you wouldn't be lying." she agrees. I chuckle.

"yeah, plus I kinda owe you for what Alice did to my phone. I unblocked your number and changed my password while I was at the nurse. She won't guess it." I say as I start translating the first ten words. I look over at Leah to see she has a concerned look on her face.

"I meant to ask. Are you ok? You were at the nurses office for a long time." she says. Sighing as I finish the front page I look back to her.

"I had a migraine. I've been getting them a lot lately." I answer hesitantly. I haven't really told anyone about the migraines, except for Charlie.

"do you know why? It might be stress. Have you been over thinking things lately?" she asks. I nod.

"could be stress." I mutter back. Oh jeez, the paper's double sided. I show the paper to Leah and make a funny face. She giggles and looks back to her paper.

"don't stress yourself out too much alright Bells?" she says softly. Nodding I go back to work. The words are supper easy and I'm done in a few minutes. There are 50 words in total. The story isn't due until friday.

"when do you wanna work on this?" she asks.

"we could work on it everyday, or every other. What ever is good for you." I answer. She nods.

"so, we can start today?" she asks to be sure. I nod.

"yeah but I don't think I should stay too late. I really need to sort things out with Alice. I don't know what's up with her lately." I say with a little irritation in my voice. Maybe I'm just irritated with myself for trying to blame Alice.

"she's very protective of you Bella. I don't blame her but you should still talk to her about it. I mean, tell her I'm not trying to be a threat to her or anything. You're a great friend and I understand you have a girlfriend. I would never try to ruin someone's relationship like that." she says in a quiet voice, almost like she's afraid Im gonna yell at her for giving me advise.

"thanks for the help Leah." I say as I smile at her. "and you know, we don't have to work too hard on this story thing tonight. It's not due until friday. Maybe we could hang out a little?" I say hoping for her to loosen up. She's seemed a little tense since I mentioned Alice. She smiles and nods.

"if you want we can go swimming again. My parents installed a flatscreen in the pool room, and a stereo system over the weekend." she says as she packs up her bag. I put my stuff away too.

"sounds awesome. I can give you a ride home again if you want. I just might wanna stop by my house to grab a bathing suit this time." I laugh. A slight blush goes over her face as she recalls our last swimming session. I start laughing more and she laughs too.

The bell rings. Time for lunch. We both grab our bags and walk out of the class room. I can tell she's nervous about being around Alice again. I slow my pace down and take the longer way to get there. Leah sees this and noticeably calms down.

I begin a conversation to keep the mood light and we both start talking about our favorite bands. We both start singing a song and playing air guitar as we walk down the hallway. We both start laughing as we find ourselves walking down a completely different hallway no where near the lunch room.

"oops, looks like we took a few wrong turns." Leah laughs.

"yeah. We should probably turn back. I'm kinda in the mood for a cheeseburger." I say as my stomach growls. Leah laughs.

"same here. I'm so hungry." she says as we get the cafeteria door. We both walk in and get in line. Leah seems ok now, she doesn't seem nervous. I'm glad, her being calm helps me stay calm.

We both walk over to my table and sit. Jake, Ed and Emmett are all drinking coffee. Oh god, help me now.

"hey boys, how you feeling?" I ask. They all turn to me.

"well, we're awake." Jake says. They all look like raccoons from the bags under their eyes. I'm sure to tell them that too. Maybe if they weren't so tired and cranky they would have laughed instead of ignoring the comment.

"we're awake." Emmett mutters in response.

"barely!" Leah laughs. I start laughing too then stop as I realize someone's missing from the table.

"Jake, where's Alice?" I ask. He shrugs.

"she said she needed to study more so she went to the library. Apparently she got a bad grade on a test and her parents told her to study her material more." he answers with a yawn.

"she said not to worry though, she'll be fine." eddy adds. Emmett yawns and lays his head on the table. We laugh. I hope Alice isn't studying too hard, but I don't want to bother her if she needs to focus more. Maybe I could help her study some other time, she just might want to be alone right now.

My thoughts are interrupted by Emmett's snoring. Jake elbows him and he sits straight up.

"I'm awake!" he says a little loudly. We all laugh and he mutters something under his breath as he goes back to sipping his coffee.

The rest of lunch goes the same with everyone laughing, and the boys taking turns falling asleep. It almost feels like nothings changed, everything's back to normal.
