DAY ONE ; 8:44 P.M.
Peko Pekoyama sat with her back to the hill, gaze flicking from the countryside around her to the sleeping boy at her side. Fuyuhiko was sleeping with his head on a bag. She'd put all of their extra clothes into that bag, both to make it lighter for him to carry and for a makeshift pillow. Everything else was in her bag, apart from the stun baton on her lap. It had been Fuyuhiko's.
Her assigned weapon, a handful of hand grenades, were less useful for keeping watch at night.
They were in I6, and they hadn't seen another human soul since about 9:30, when Fuyuhiko had nearly caught Kirigiri and Fujisaki. Nobody seemed to be going this way. There weren't even any dead bodies near them. While this was good, and this wasn't quite a danger zone yet, Pekoyama did feel like they would need to be on the move soon. Everyone else was already doing a good job of killing each other, and if things continued at this rate, then she wouldn't have to do more than kill herself at the end to make sure that Fuyuhiko walked free, but there was no guarantee.
As far a she knew, some weak ones like Fujisaki were still alive. She would leave them alone. She would have to focus on people likely to be dangerous. Byakuya Togami. Sakura Oogami. Maybe even Kiyotaka Ishimaru, depending on how his mental state was – she had seen him practice kendo, and while he wasn't even near her level, he could be dangerous. He was athletic and had a sharp mind.
But she would wait until morning. She might have to stay awake the entire night. Fuyuhiko had been asleep for about forty minutes. It had been a slightly tiring day. They'd spent a good chunk of their day setting traps around their campsite, and it had been hard work.
Fuyuhiko moved, yawned, rubbed his eyes, and sat up. He reached for the stun baton. "I'm sleeping weird," he said. He rubbed his eyes again and blinked. "You sleep. I'll take first watch."
She tried to protest, but he just looked at her in that way of his and she gave him the stun baton. She promised herself that she wouldn't actually fall asleep, no matter what, but as she laid down with her head on the bag and she felt Fuyuhiko's fingers nervously run through her hair, rubbing her scalp, she couldn't help but doze off.
19 STUDENTS REMAINING
I just realized the only time we saw these two was when Fujisaki 'maybe saw Kuzuryuu' back in chapter nine. So I figured they should probably get a chapter of their own, even if it's just to check in on them and make sure they're good.
