PROLOGUE !
So here is the prologue for the next summer, sorry it took so long but I am spending a lot of time writing chapters so that I can update without any delays.
Hope you are all excited for the next summer, its a little more grown up and it think it fits in a lot better with how the boys change, get to where they're going and encounter the stresses of having to grow up. I have a lot of interesting ideas in the development of the boys and Toni. You get to see how everything plays out anyways enough of me.
Disclaimer: Sandlot still not mine.
'I think the Trophies get bigger every year." Ham said lifting up the golden trophy in the air as we walked around the field while the crowd cheered. "they're heavy."
"Or maybe you're just weak." Squints said to him taking the Trophy from his hands.
"Another win for the sandlot eh boys?" I asked smiling.
"And more to come Miss Sunshine." Yeah yeah said slinging an arm over my shoulder.
"Now that you're not locked up anymore we can party all next summer." Grover said.
We started heading off the field then so we could get ready to go home and talk to some people.
"Theres gonna be no partying we have to be focused and I'm not dealing with hungover L-7 weenies out on the field." Benny warned.
"Aw come on Benny it's our Junior year times of our lives!" Ham whined to him.
"You also said that about going to a pig farm once ham."
"But this time I mean it, come on." Ham said rolling his eyes.
The city Championships was a little harder this year what with not being able to practice as much but we still managed out to win with 10-2 against Phillips team again. We were then bombarded by congratulations and praise for our game.
"That was some amazing Pitching there Toni." a voice said behind me, I turned to see the Mayor standing there.
"Thank you." I smiled. "Uh, can I ask you something?"
"Go right ahead." he smiled.
"The cotillion dance. . . You know it was all of us right?" I asked him he looked around and then leaned in close to me to whisper so only I could hear.
"Everyone does."
"Then why did you do that, not that I'm not appreciative for it. . . just why?"
"Sunny there are only a few things that keep a town like the Valley alive, and one of them is hope. You and Benny are that hope in our town, making it out of here to do better things or even being together for a long time, everyone sees how you two are and everyone is cheering for you two to make it. My own wife and I only shared the kind of love you and Benny have when we got married, and I would never do anything to split you two up." he smiled. "Plus between you and me, Clara really bugs me."
I started laughing and he winked and headed back in the other direction to his wife.
He understood young love, he wanted to see me and Benny work out, according to him the whole town did and that made me smile.
"What did he want?" benny asked coming up behind me.
"Nothing. Was nothing." I said "come on lets celebrate!"
"I'm sorry you didn't have much of a summer." I said as we walked on the sandlot hand in hand.
"I had a great summer, and if it meant giving up a little baseball in order to have you with me then I'd do it again."
"Did the Jet just say he was happy to give up a little baseball?"
"In order to be able to play even more with you the next summer." he replied squeezing my hand.
"I still can't believe it happened, I mean Clara still yells at me but she doesn't give me a hard time about anything anymore."
"It's only been a couple weeks." Benny reminded me.
"And I'm sure in one more she'll be back to her old self, but I couldn't care less my dad was so embarrassed by her that she is spending all her time sucking up to him and trying to make things better, she doesn't even seem to care that I'm out anymore."
"Good cause you're gonna be out a lot more." benny smiled.
"I love this place." I said running my foot over the way too dry sand.
"I love you." Benny said before Stopping and placing his hands on my waist and kissing me. Slow and softly I tugged on his collar to bring him closer. When we broke away he was grinning from ear to ear.
"Are you always so happy?" I joked poking his cheek.
"Only on Sunday's and when I have a beautiful girl with me." he said.
"So I'm beautiful?" I asked raising an eyebrow.
"Nah, It's Sunday." he replied before taking off into a run to avoid my swinging arm.
"You're horrible!" I yelled at him.
"yeah what ever come on we're supposed to meet the guys." he said still running leaving me standing in the middle of the Sandlot.
"Why?!" I yelled back.
"Schools in a week, gotta plan how we'll meet up until next summer."
right. . .
Next summer.
…...
"Ham you put one more sticker on my back and I will kill you." Benny snapped at him as we stood in the hallway waiting for the final bell to ring to free us from this hell with florescent lighting.
"Loosen up Benny." Ham smiled putting a sticker smack in the middle of his forehead. Benny pushed him away and took the sticker off putting it on the locker behind him.
"SIX minutes." Smalls said jumping on the spot watching the clock.
"Another school year has finally gone by!" Yeah yeah yelled running down the hallway, only to get tripped by Phillips behemoth player, Robin.
Many people laughed because it is natural to laugh at someone else's clumsiness but that didn't stop us from snapping at them all to shut up.
Squints helped him up and brought him over to us.
"You okay?" I asked him.
"Yeah Phillips is a jerk." He said brushing himself off.
"Lets forget that okay? I just want today, today not to worry about Phillips." Benny said placing an arm around my shoulders. "I got my friends, my girl and a whole damn summer. Lets worry about him another time."
"Bitchin." Squints smiled.
"Four minutes."
"Smalls we know, two minutes ago it was six minutes. Two minutes before that it was eight, and two before that it was ten." Ham said getting annoyed with Smalls telling the time every two minutes.
"Guys Don't turn on each other." I said.
"Let just have fun, and party hard tonight! WOO!" Grover yelled into the hallway crowded with kids lining the walls.
"I still don't think we should-"
"Too late you agreed to this party." Ham said shutting Benny up right away.
"I'm so happy this year is over!" Timmy yelled thrusting a fist into the air.
"Everyone is." Tommy said.
Suddenly our Science teacher Mrs. Van Asten came over.
"Smalls I just wanted to congratulate you on the science award, and the project that got first in the fair." Smalls blushed and muttered a thank you. The guys started to make kissy noises at him, calling him a butt kisser and Smalls glared at them.
"Oh and Toni. . ." she trailed off, I was in smalls class and I knew I did lousy in science it wasn't my fault, I was just bad at it, really bad, some kids are bad in math or english I sucked at Science.
"Yeah I'm not planning on going into anything with science." I mumbled.
"That's wise." She said and then walked away.
The guys started laughing and I stood there stunned.
"Why does she hate me?"
"You did trip and break four breakers. . . in one lab." Smalls pointed out.
"So that means she can hate me?"
"Well you also caught her hair on fire."
"She says we have to tie our hair back but she doesn't, in my opinion it was the universe getting back at her."
"You're also rude, spacy, a smart ass, made a sign that said ninja exit and hung it on the door-"
"Yeah smalls I get it, I'm a bad student. Why don't you just tell the world?" I asked.
"Well he would, but everyone already knows." Benny laughed. I turned to say something when I was cut off by smalls.
"One-"
"You say Minute and your hair is catching on fire!" Ham warned Smalls.
"And I'm the rude one." I said sarcastically.
"yeah you are." Ham agreed.
"You know what Ham, You are just positively pestiferous." I said getting into his face.
"Ugh you also spit when you talk." he said wiping his cheek.
"TEN NINE EIGHT!" the crowd started to cheer. "SEVEN SIX FIVE FOUR THREE TWO ONE!"
…...
nothing.
"I think the counting was off!" Squints yelled then the bell rang.
BRRRRRRIIIINNNGGGGG
papers flew into the air, people screamed and the hoard ran towards the front door.
"FREEDOM!" Timmy yelled throwing his math book into the air to land where ever.
"Sandlot is back and ready to take this Summer by storm!" Grover yelled as well.
"BETTER THEN EVER!" Benny cheered.
"SCHOOLS OUT!" I yelled with Smalls and Yeah yeah and then we ran out of the school yard.
Ready to have an amazing and dramaless summer.
