Prompt 29 - Jack-O-Lanturn
Draconius sighed, looking down at the horribly misshapen face she'd carved into her pumpkin. Its right eye was bigger than its left, its nose was almost nonexistent, and more than half of its face was taken up with a lopsided grin that stretched from one side of the pumpkin to the other.
Her teenaged daughter took one look at the pumpkin and burst out laughing. "Nice Jack-O-Lanturn, mom," Melody said, wiping tears of mirth from her eyes. She then leaned over and tapped the pumpkin with her wand, enchanting the mutilated gourd so that it came to life and shouted, "Boo!"
Draconius shrieked and leapt from her seat, her daughter and the enchanted pumpkin laughing at her reaction. "Oh, good heavens!" she exclaimed, breathing heavily with one hand on her chest. "I'm sorry for what I did to your face."
"Eh, don't worry about it," said the Jack-O-Lanturn. He spit out a chocolate frog and smiled. "Here. Have some candy."
The healer looked at her daughter then back at the pumpkin.
Melody shrugged. "Go for it."
Draconius tentatively reached for the chocolate frog, opened the wrapper and took a bite. "You learned that from your father, didn't you?"
"Yeah." A smile spread across Melody's face. "Wait 'till you see his new firewhiskey dispenser in the bathroom."
