Image after image flashed inside of Matthew's mind, creating a choppy short movie that replayed moments from the past. Two people are reading a spell from a piece of paper while a man is writhing in agony on the ground a short distance away. After they finish reading a blinding red flash momentarily illuminates the entire area. The man on the ground screams out as the two hesitantly leave the area. The man tries to follow after them but he runs into an invisible wall, knocking him to the ground. The two people see this and smile, their faces becoming clear. Matthew slowly opened his eyes; he was confused. He was sure that he had seen two people who seemed to be witches, but as their faces became clear to him, he suddenly did not know what to think. Were those two people the ones he knew? Wesley and James noticed the bewilderment on his face.

"What did you see?" James asked. "You look like you saw a ghost."

"Well," Matthew answered slowly, "I saw two ghosts. I think I had a premonition of the…past. I saw who cursed Selrach. It was…"

"It was who?" Wesley asked impatiently. "This isn't an awards show or something. You're not announcing a winner or a grand prize. Just say it!"

"The ones who cursed him were Mom and Dad," Matthew announced, subtly rolling his eyes at Wesley's remarks.

"What!?" Wesley and James exclaimed in unison.

"If they cursed him, and they're dead now," James thought out loud, "then how are we supposed to get them to undo the curse?"

"Well," Wesley speculated, "I guess we can summon them. We've done it before, right? We summoned William from the past when Jimmy wanted to do a séance."

"But we needed some ingredients and candles," Matthew said. "And a drop of blood."

"So how are we gonna get those things from here?" James asked. He looked over at Wesley.

"What are you looking at me for?" Wesley asked. Then it hit him. "Oh no! I can barely move ten feet away! You expect me to glimmer damn near a hundred miles away…with stuff? You're out of your mind!"

"We don't have a choice," James said. "It's the only chance we have to save your…brother."

"Why do you have such a hard time associating the word 'brother' with Wyatt?" Wesley asked. "Get over yourself, Jimmy."

"Guys," Matthew said, noticing that Selrach was slowly beginning to adjust to Wesley's power. "This isn't the time for that. Selrach is unfreezing. Whatever we're gonna do, we need to do it quickly."

"Selrach?" Wesley asked. "Who names these demons? What the hell kind of name…"

James pushed Wesley out of the way as a green ball of light flew past the two of them. Matthew's body became transparent as the attack passed through him. It struck the tree that was once Wyatt. The three brothers noticed that the light was absorbed into the tree, but for whatever reason they thought they saw the bark move around a bit. James turned back to the demon and swung his right hand dismissively. Selrach was magically lifted off the ground and hurled twenty feet away from them, landing on his back.

"Wes," James said. "Take the Book; it's in the truck. Get everything we need and bring it back. I know it's a strain on you, but we wouldn't ask you if we didn't think you could do it."

"You're one of the strongest witches in history," Matthew added, daring to look Wesley in the eye. "I know from experience."

"Don't try and kiss my ass now," Wesley said, rolling his eyes at Matthew. "You and I still have business to take care of…"

"Save the fighting for later and get out of here!" James ordered. "We'll hold him off until you get back. Just go!"

Wesley hurried over to James' truck, but stopped as he noticed something different about Matthew. His eyes immediately moved to the dark puffiness around Matthew's left eye. He smiled as he continued to the truck. Opening the passenger door, he grabbed the Book of Light and held it close to his chest, as if he was hugging it. He made one last look towards Wyatt.

"This one's for you, bro," he spoke to the tree. Closing his eyes and imagining himself standing in the basement of his home, his body burst into millions of tiny blue and white lights before disappearing from the forest.

"How did Mom and Dad hold him off?" James asked Matthew.

"No idea," Matthew answered. "They probably winged it like we're gonna have to…watch out!"

At Matthew's warning, James dove to the ground as another ball of green energy sailed through the air, missing him by inches. Turning to the spot where Selrach had been thrown, James prepared to counterattack, but found that the demon was gone. Both he and Matthew moved so that they were back to back. Their opponent was nowhere in sight; all they could hear was eerie laughter echoing throughout the area.

"Why are they always so damn annoying?" Matthew commented.

James quickly turned one way; he thought he heard a noise. Matthew followed suit and turned the same way. They only saw more trees and no demon. They inched away from each other slowly, in opposite directions, but ready to fight at any moment. The laughter started up a second time, further aggravating the two brothers. Matthew, being closer to where Wyatt stood, took the time to examine the tree. He ran his hand across the bark and, looking closely, could barely make out facial features. It was just as it had been in his premonition.

James kept his eyes and ears open for any clues to Selrach's whereabouts. Wherever this demon was, he definitely knew how to hide. After all, he had been confined to this forest for over twenty years. He knew the area extremely well. James stepped closer to where he last saw Selrach. Suddenly, the ground rumbled as two pairs of roots erupted from the ground, grabbing James' ankles and raising him high into the air. The noise caught Matthew's attention and he spun around to see James' body rising higher and higher. The roots dangled him by his ankles about thirty feet in the air.

"Hang on Jimmy!" Matthew said.

"Not so fast," a voice warned. Matthew and James saw a green flash, revealing Selrach, smiling evilly. "Take even one step to save your brother and I'll snap both of his legs like twigs…no pun intended. Those roots will spin him around like a lasso and fling him so deep into the forest he'll never be found."

Matthew stopped. He was just about to use his phasing power to render the magical roots transparent and free James, but at Selrach's warning he lowered his arms. He got a good look at the demon. Although he was a demon, he retained human features. His skin was a dark brown and a hood partially covered his bald head. His eyes, however, reflected a deep olive green from the headlights of James' truck.

Matthew did not know what to do. He wanted to use his power anyway, but he was sure Selrach would follow through with his threat, putting James in serious trouble. He hoped Wesley was on his way back, but it had already been so long since he had left, he wondered if he was okay. He could only think of one thing to do: stall for time.

"What do you stand to gain from all this?" Matthew asked.

"My only wish is to be free of this place," Selrach answered. "Then I can freely feed on innocent souls and maintain a dignified existence."

"What makes you think we won't stop you from doing that?" Matthew asked. "It's kinda our job to protect innocents."

"You witches can't stop me," Selrach replied. "The most any witch has ever been able to do is curse me here. Once I escape I'll be unstoppable."

"We'll stop you!" James shouted from above. With a quick gesture from Selrach, the roots tightened around his legs, digging into his skin and silencing him.

"Hurry up," Matthew mumbled under his breath as he tightened his fists in frustration.
