... ... ...
"Have you told them yet?" Lydia asked as her and Cat walked towards class.
The blonde shook her head. "No. It's kind of hard to tell people that aren't exactly talking to you."
Lydia rolled her eyes. "They're idiots. But either way you should tell them."
"I can't." Cat whispered. "I just- I feel like I'm going crazy. I'm talking to dead people, I'm having the weirdest dreams and-" She stopped, unsure of how to say what happened to her that morning.
"And what?" Lydia pressed.
"This morning, I was here early and was in the office. I was supposed to do some student aide work but… I couldn't."
"What do you mean you couldn't?"
Cat looked slightly panicked as she looked up at the redhead. "As in I couldn't, I couldn't use the computer, I couldn't remember how to."
"How does someone forget how to use a computer?"
The blonde could only shrug. "And I swear… my… extra powers are kind of wonky, like I can't see as well."
Lydia's lips pursed. "That's it, we're going to find the guys."
She spotted the guys up ahead and picked up her pace so Cat had no choice but to follow after her.
"It's happening to you too, you're seeing things, aren't you?" Stiles was saying to Scott.
"How'd you know?" Scott asked.
"Because it's happening to all three of you." Lydia interrupted them. "Cat's not seeing what she usually does but at the same time, she's seeing a lot more than usual, tell them."
Cat glared at her before looking at the ground and when she didn't say anything, Lydia rolled her eyes, turning back to the guys.
"Cat's seeing dead people."
"Who? Where?" Scott asked. "In your dreams?"
The tiny blonde shook her head, still refusing to look up.
"No, she's communicating with them, as in full on medium or something." Lydia explained with a shake of her red tresses.
"Who are you seeing?" Stiles asked, his voice pitched low.
"Erica." Cat muttered. "At first. But then-" She stopped, unable to say the name.
A look of pain crossed Stiles' features. "Are you seeing Lennox?"
Cat nodded.
"Why didn't you say anything?" Stiles snapped at her.
"How long has this been going on?" Scott asked.
"Since the Darach. Erica started appearing."
"Why didn't you tell us?"
"Because I thought I was going crazy."
"Again, I say, why didn't you tell us?" Scott reiterated.
"Because I was happy to have her back." Cat snapped, "Even if I was going crazy."
"Does Isaac know?"
"No." She petulantly replied.
Lydia could only smirk. "Well, well look who is no longer the crazy one."
"We're not crazy." Scott said.
"Really? Hallucinating, weird dreams, sleep paralysis, seeing dead people," Lydia listed off. "You're right, you're not crazy."
"But we did die and come back to life, that's got to have some side effects, right?" Scott pondered.
Cat shrugged, still feeling unsure about the whole thing.
The bell rang and before they parted, Stiles looked at Scott and Cat. "We'll keep an eye on each other and Lydia, stop enjoying this so much."
They walked towards history, sliding into their seats just as the second bell went. The teacher at the board finished writing before turning around and introducing himself.
"Morning everyone, my name is Mr. Yukimura and I'll be taking over for your former history teacher. My family moved here three weeks ago. I'm sure by now you all know my daughter, Kira or you might not since she's never mentioned anyone from school or brought home a friend for that matter."
Cat heard someone's head hitting the desk and she looked towards the back of the class to see a girl with long black hair slumped over. Cat felt bad for her but at the same time she was wary. She remembered hearing about a new student starting but had assumed it was just Lennox. She had missed Kira starting, probably busy with the Darach or something and then with Lennox starting right after, Kira slipped through the cracks completely. So obviously, this made Cat immediately suspicious. A new student starting at Beacon Hills high usually wasn't a good thing, at least not with their track record.
The pretty Asian girl finally looked up, her eyes coming to rest on Scott, who graced her with a small smile and Cat's eyes narrowed. Scott turned to face the front, catching Cat's eyes who merely raised an eyebrow at him. He only raised one back before looking down, staring at his shadow. His eyes widened and Cat followed his line of vision to see his shadow transforming into the alpha form. Cat glanced between Scott and his shadow self, making sure he wasn't transforming in the middle of class.
"And you are…?"
Cat looked up at the teacher who was staring down at her. No doubt he had been trying to get her attention for a while but she had been too preoccupied.
"Cat." She automatically replied.
He looked down at the paper in his hands before gravely nodding. "Right, well, I'll have to see you after class please."
Cat sighed, slumping further into the seat. He probably wanted to talk to her about her dismal attendance record and she really didn't want to deal with that right now. When would the teachers learn, she was a straight A student whether she was in class or not.
When class finally ended, Cat stayed in her seat, waiting for everyone to leave before she got up and walked towards the teacher's desk.
"It is my understanding you are ahead in class?" Mr. Yukimura asked.
Cat nodded, wondering where this was going.
"How would you feel about taking on another project for class, extra credit if you will."
"I don't necessarily need it." Cat replied.
"I know you don't but I hoped I could appeal to the side of you that loves to learn."
"I'm listening." She hesitantly replied.
He smiled at her. "I was just looking to see if you would be interested. I'll have more information on the subject shortly."
Cat nodded, moving back to her desk to grab her books and bag, stopping briefly when she saw Kira sitting in her chair. Cat shot her a small smile before hiking her bag up and leaving the classroom.
"I don't trust her." Erica said, appearing beside her.
Cat glanced sidelong at her as she hurried down the hallway towards her locker so she could dump her books then find Scott and Stiles.
"You don't trust anyone." Cat muttered, as she reached her locker and opened it.
"For once I gotta agree with blondie." Lennox's face appeared, floating in her locker and Cat yelped, taking a few steps back. Everyone around her stopped to stare at her and she sent them a sheepish grin. "Just a creepy spider." She called, waiting for everyone to turn back to what they were doing before she stepped up to her locker again, glaring at Lennox and Erica who were now on either side of her locker.
"Seriously, I'm going crazy enough as it is, I really don't need you guys enforcing that."
"I'm sorry. I couldn't resist." Lennox replied with a small smile. "I'm still learning all these awesome new ghosty tricks."
Cat shut her locker door, turning to see Kira speaking to her father but looking down the hall at someone. The blonde turned to see it was Scott, watching her briefly before looking away.
"I'm serious, I don't trust her." Erica reiterated.
"I don't think I do either." She automatically replied without thinking.
"Don't think you do what?" Kira asked her, having stopped beside her.
Cat gave her head a small shake. "Nothing. Just thinking out loud. Must be rough going to the same school your dad teaches at"
"You're telling me." Kira said with a shake of her head. "It's so embarrassing. I bet your Dad doesn't embarrass you like that."
Cat let out a small snort. "Can't say he does, considering he tried to kill me before abandoning me."
Kira's jaw dropped in shock. "Oh my god, I'm so sorry-"
"You didn't know, don't worry about it." Cat replied, looking down the hall to see Scott ducking his head and Stiles leading him off into an empty classroom. "Excuse me, I have to go." She rushed away from the new girl, following after the two guys and slipping in to the classroom, watching Scott in the middle of a transformation, warning for Stiles to stay back.
"What's going on?" Cat asked Stiles. "Why is he transforming."
"He can't stop it."
"Scott?" She softly called.
"Stay away." He cried, "I'll hurt you."
Her dream came back to her then but she ignored it and his warning, stepping forward and laying her hands on his arm.
"Look at me." She whispered.
"Cat." He tried to pull away but she held on tight, forcing him to look at her. He finally met her eyes, his glowing Alpha red as she stared into them.
"Breathe with me." She instructed, inhaling deeply before exhaling. He began to match her breathing as she whispered instructions to him, forcing his wolf back. Finally, his claws and fangs were gone, his eyes dark brown again. He collapsed to the floor and she sat with him, Stiles joining them moments later.
"It beats hurting yourself to stop the change." Cat whispered.
"It's not just in our heads." Stiles said. "This is real, it's starting to get bad for me too. I'm not just having nightmares, I'm having dreams where I have to literally scream myself awake and sometimes I'm not even sure I'm actually waking up."
"What do you mean?" Scott asked.
"You know how you can tell if you're dreaming?" Stiles asked.
"There are a lot of ways." Cat answered. "It could be missing a body part, like not having the right amount of fingers or something, becoming a master at something you could never do, unable to do things that you could usually do, like know how to use a computer, you can't read in a dream and a big one is also talking to dead people."
"You're not dreaming Catty." Erica reminded her.
"I know." The Seer replied with a sigh.
"Know what?" Stiles asked.
"Oh, it's um… it's Erica." She replied, blushing.
"Are you dreaming?" Scott asked, "Is it like Stiles, you're not sure if you're awake?"
"I-I don't know." She replied. "I'm having trouble picking up the most simple of things from people and I couldn't remember how to use my computer this morning but the whole talking to dead people, it's not a part of any dream, I swear it isn't."
"That's just this thing about dreams." Stiles said. "You don't always know. I'm having trouble reading, like I can't see the words, I can't put the letters in order."
"I don't think I'm having nightmares so much as entering everyone else's." Cat replied.
"What about right now?" Scott asked. "Can either of you read? Cat can you use your computer?"
She pulled it out of her bag and turned it on even as Stiles looked around, trying to read everything around him.
"I can't read a thing." Stiles whispered.
Cat stared at her desktop with a frown before looking at her keyboard, then back up at the screen.
"Cat?"
She scratched her head. "I- what am I supposed to do now?" She asked.
"You don't know how to use that?" Erica asked. "Like, this is you, hacker extraordinaire, Cat, what's going on?"
"You weren't here this morning when it happened." Cat explained, "I just couldn't remember."
"How could someone forget how to use a computer?" Lennox asked.
"The same way someone forgets how to read." Cat shot back. "In case you haven't figured it out, something is going on."
She saw Stiles and Scott exchange a look and it was the exact look she was worried about.
"They think you're going crazy." Erica said with a sigh.
"I know." Lennox exclaimed. "Tell Stiles about our date night. We went ice skating, then ate chinese food on the hood of his car. I had the rice with black bean sauce, that will make him believe you."
Cat sent her a frustrated look. "Lennox, this is everything I could pick up from his mind at any time, that won't make them believe me."
"She's here right now?" Stiles asked, hope in his voice.
Cat turned to him, looking anxious. "Yes, she is."
"Is she- is she okay?"
Cat nodded. "She is. She's… adjusting well."
"That's one way of putting it." Lennox replied with a snort.
Cat sighed, pinching the bridge of her nose.
"What I still don't get is why you didn't tell us sooner and how you got so good at hiding it?" Scott wondered.
She shrugged. "I've seen enough movies of people talking to someone only they could see in front of people. They looked like raving lunatics. So much to Erica's dismay, I learned not to answer her when people are around."
"Ohh, tell them about Kira. We don't trust her." Erica reminded her.
But Cat ignored her, looking at the guys. "Look, I have some stuff to do, I'll talk to you guys later."
She got up and was at the door when Stiles called her name and she turned to look at him.
"Can you tell her I miss her?" He asked.
"She can hear you." Cat replied. "And for the record, she doesn't hold me responsible for her death. She knew it was inevitable and she's happy I did it as opposed to Scott's claws."
"Cat." Scott began. "We don't- we don't blame you."
"Could have fooled me." She snapped, her anger taking over now that Scott was so obviously denying it. "You mean to tell me there was another reason everyone's been treating me like I have the plague or something since her funeral?"
"No but we were just-" Stiles stopped and let out a sigh before continuing. "We missed her, we were upset she was gone and since you were there and made it happen, even though it was inevitable, I was just- I was angry and I just really missed her and needed something or someone to direct that too."
"He seems sincere." Lennox mused, twirling a piece of her hair.
"Stay out of it." Cat told her.
"Um, this pertains to me and my death, I really don't think I have to." She replied with a raised eyebrow and a smirk.
The blonde only rolled her eyes before turning back to the guys. "You don't think that I didn't feel any of those things? For god sakes, I was the one who killed her, didn't anyone ever stop to think what that has done to me?"
"Then why did you do it?" Scott asked. "No one asked you to. It was my responsibility."
There were tears in her voice when she finally answered. "Because I knew I could handle it a lot better than you. You couldn't survive having her death on your conscience. I know you, I saw how it was already killing you. You became an alpha because you refuse to kill, I wasn't about to ruin that."
She walked out of the room and towards the entrance of the school, wanting to blow off the rest of her classes for the day, the beginning of a headache appearing. She stopped right outside of the art classroom, noticing Isaac in there and she frowned because he didn't have art right now. She had his class schedule memorized because it practically matched hers.
She stood there, watching him as he painted, she couldn't see what he was painting but she saw him look up every few seconds at something across the room. She moved a bit so she could see what he was looking at and when she did, her blood began to boil. Allison and Lydia were across the room and Cat forced herself to calm down. Maybe he was just watching them for Scott again, maybe he was worried about them for some reason. So she turned back to Isaac, staring at him hard and trying to force him to look at her. She was practically screaming it in her head, yelling at him to stop drooling and look at her. Eventually, Isaac clapped his hands over his ears, as if someone really was screaming at him as he looked around, bewildered. His eyes finally stopped on her and he quickly got up and hurried towards her. She walked down the hall, waiting for him to catch up.
"How did you do that?" He asked in disbelief.
"Do what?" She asked, her voice icy.
"I heard your voice in my head, you were yelling. It was like that time at the Nemeton but you told me you couldn't do that anymore.
"I can't." She replied. "Maybe it was your guilty conscience."
"What are you talking about?"
"You don't have art class this period." She reminded him. "We have economics."
"Why aren't you there?" He challenged.
"Because I was helping Scott and Stiles and trying to explain to those two nimrods that Lennox doesn't blame me for what happened, so neither should you guys. It's not very fair."
"Cat, you killed a person. You. It's freaked us all- wait what do you mean Lennox doesn't blame you? How would you know this?"
"Because she told me." Cat replied through gritted teeth. "If you were around at all, you would totally be caught up on everything, like how I see dead people."
Isaac looked genuinely shocked. "So that time in school when you said Erica's name and then brushed it off as nothing, you actually-"
"Saw her? Yes."
"What about Boyd? Or my brother? Or my dad, have you seen him?"
"No. I've seen Erica and Lennox that I know."
"And you don't think this has anything to do with the ritual and all the weird stuff going on with you three?"
She pursed her lips. "Stop changing the subject. What are you doing in Art? And staring at Allison like you want to make out with her or something."
"I was not." He denied.
"You were too. Don't lie to me. Do you… like her?"
"No. Yes…. Maybe. I don't know Cat. Things are just weird between us right now and so I've been hanging out with Allison a lot."
She sighed, rubbing her temples, trying to get rid of the headache that had just popped up. "This is Karma, isn't it? I've done too much bad shit and it's all coming back now."
"I love you though." He said, grabbing her shoulders. "I love you Cat."
"But you like her. Look, I have a migraine, I'm going home."
"Do you want me to drive you?" He frowned, concerned about her and her headaches. Her migraines were becoming more frequent as of late and it worried him.
"No, I'm fine."
She pulled away from him but he quickly grabbed her and pulled her back, leaning down to kiss her but she turned at the last second so he kissed her cheek instead. She didn't care that he looked hurt. She knew this was Karma coming back to bite her in the ass. She had killed, hurt and maimed people. She had gone behind Allison's back with Scott so of course Isaac would like Allison.
"Can I throw a knife at him?" Erica asked with a scowl, appearing beside her.
"No." She groaned. "I just want to go home."
Cat got in her SUV and quickly left the school, going home and falling onto her bed as her head started pounding even more. She laid there in the dark, groaning at the pain, wishing it would go away but it only increased. She didn't remember if she lost consciousness from the pain or just fell asleep from exhaustion.
… … …
I need you guys to remember something... I'm NOT a fan of Allisaac... perhaps I'm bias cuz I love him with Cat so much... but just.. remember that... ;) that's a hint... as in anything you see alluding to allisaac, while I don't know if/how far I'll take it, remember, it would be for the story, I'm not a big fan.. bleah
