Chapter 29:
What Makes You Different

...

Luigi entered the throne room with Wendy by his side. They walked down the long red carpet all the way to the end where the King of Koopas' throne was stationed. Sitting on his throne was the Koopa King himself, Bowser, who was sprawled across his seat as he relaxes upon it. Standing beside him were two of his most loyal and powerful minions, Kamek and Kammy Koopa. Also standing before him was a black koopa, one that everyone (except the green plumber of course) was well familiar with as he talks to them amiably.

"Hey Daddy,"

Wendy greeted her father as a way to announce their arrival. All four koopas pause from the conversation they were having and turned their attention to the approaching pink koopa and her green companion. Bowser smiled and sat up from his throne to address his favorite/only daughter.

"Ah Wendy, how's my favorite little girl doing?"

Wendy skipped over and stood in front of the small stairway leading up to his throne.

"I'm fine Daddy, and how are you today?"

"Still lousy from yesterday," he grunted. "But thanks to Kalvin here, my mood is looking brighter."

"That's good." She turned to the black koopa standing next to her. "Hello again, Sir Kalvin, it's been some time since we seen each other."

Kalvin was a koopa of Bowser's species and a handsome one when it comes to looks. He had tan yellow skin, gray eyes, short black hair, and a polish black shell on his back. He also has a small goatee on his chin, neatly groom and trimmed for appearance.

"Ah, Princess Wendy; yes, it's been too long in my eyes." He took her hand and bows in front of her. "Every day I go without looking at your beauty is a day I soon regret. However," He kisses her hand and smile. "I'm hoping I could make it all up with you today."

Luigi felt a ping of jealousy when this Kalvin koopa kissed her hand. Who is this guy? And how does Wendy know him?

"Now, now, you two," Bowser smirked. "None of that mushy stuff in front of me alright?"

Wendy looked at him confused as Kalvin stood up, though he still held onto Wendy's hand. "Well, of course, your highness. I would never disrespect you or your daughter, especially in your own home."

"In that case, let's get this dinner party started. I'm starting to get hungry."

"You here!" Luigi jumped when Kamek pointed at him. "Retrieve the rest of his Hungriness' children and inform them that someone else will be joining them for dinner."

Luigi fiddled around in his spot. "Oh...um...I...uhm...ah..."

"Kamek, I don't think he's a servant here." said Kammy. She was the only one to notice Luigi entering with Wendy. That and he was dress too nicely to be someone who worked around the castle.

Bowser and Kamek looked at her confused. Wendy pulls away from Kalvin and walked over to hold Luigi's hand instead.

"Daddy," she started. "I would like you to meet Kasanova Koopa; he's my new boyfriend."

Luigi step forward and bowed heavily. "Good evening your Highness, it's an honor to meet you."

"What... Boyfriend?" Bower looked between both Koopas before settling his gaze on Luigi. "This guy is the one you been talking about? The one who gave you the new necklace?"

Wendy nodded. "Yup, this is him."

"If he's the one I'm suppose to meet, then why Kalvin's here?"

"I just thought I'll stop by for a visit, my lord." said Kalvin "I didn't know you were expecting someone. Nor did I know I had... competition." He turned to Luigi and glared at him.

Bowser scoffed and stood up from his throne to have a look at the couple. "So this is your new mate, uh? Something about him look familiar... Is he one of the suitors I assigned for you?"

Luigi swallowed. "N-No sir, I'm not one of your s-suitors."

"Really?" Bowser scowled. "In that case... Are you a prince or someone of any high standards?"

Luigi shook his head. "No sir, I'm not."

"So, you're a commoner then?" Kamek concluded. Luigi nodded.

"A commoner, uh?" Bower snarled and cross his arms. "Look pal, I don't let my daughter date just anyone, especially commoners. If you were of some high class like Kalvin here, I might have given you a shot."

Kalvin looked proud when he was mention. Luigi frowned at the fact that Bowser wasn't going to give him a chance due to his low status.

"Daddy!" Wendy scowled, "I don't care if he's a commoner or not. I like him, and he like me. Plus, he makes me happy. Isn't that good enough?"

She was frustrated with her father for not giving Luigi a shot before he got a chance to. Bowser uncrossed his arms and places them on his waist.

"To me, it isn't." Bowser uncrossed his arms and places them on his waist. "I had a list of royal suitors for you to choose from. Why didn't you choose from them?"

"I didn't like any of them; they weren't my type."

"Then what about Kalvin? You two seem to get along well."

Wendy glances over to Kalvin. The black koopa smiled and started admiring himself. Luigi glared slightly at him as Wendy turn back to her father.

"I admit that Kalvin is...sufficient, but he and I would never make it."

Kalvin looked disbelief when she said that. Luigi just smiled.

"And this guy is?" Bowser questioned.

"Well, Kasanova's different."

"Different? Ah, please..." Bowser turned his attention on Luigi. "I had a whole list of suitors, all of them were of high-class, and yet my daughter turned them all down. Tell me, Kasanova... What makes you so different from the rest of them?"

"What makes me different?" Luigi questioned. He glance over to Wendy as if he was looking for inspiration. He turned back to Bowser and answered his question. "Well for one thing, your highness, I love your daughter."

Wendy looked surprised. Bowser raised a questionable brow as Luigi continues.

"I know we just gotten to know each other and have dated for only a little over six weeks now. But in that short amount of time, I grew to love Wendy and with each passing day I grow to love her even more. I may not be a prince or anyone of high status. And you're right; Wendy does deserve someone better than a simple commoner. But I promise to treat her like the princess that she is and even though I can't offer much, I will try my hardest to give her only the best in life."

Once Luigi was done with his monologue, he glance over to Wendy. The pink koopa looked like she could cry out in joy. Luigi smiled and turn back to Bowser. The Koopa King was studying him, debating on whether or not to deem him worthy. Luigi stood there firmly, taking his gaze head on. He was no longer afraid – okay, maybe he was a little afraid – but he was determine.

After a few moments of silence, Bowser finally spoke. "So you want to court my daughter, uh?"

Luigi nodded. "Yes, sir, I would be more than honored if I do."

Bowser glared at him some more. After a few more minutes, he sighed deeply and ran a hand through his red hair.

"Fine, I'll allow it."

"What?!" Both Kamek and Kalvin were surprise of the King's answer. Kammy, however, seems please.

Luigi blinked in surprise. "R-Really?"

"Yes, really... But you're not out of the woods yet. You may have my permission but you don't have my approval... humph, not yet anyways."

Luigi wouldn't believe his ears. Bowser was actually allowing him to date Wendy. He may not have gotten his approval yet but it was a good start. Wendy grew excited and hugged her father tightly.

"Oooh, thank you daddy, thank you!"

"B-B-B-But, your majesty! Surely, you can't let a simple commoner be allowed to court the princess." cried Kalvin. He couldn't believe that the king would approve of this.

"Don't you think I know that?!" Bowser scowled him. "Unfortunately, that simple commoner makes Wendy happy. And when she's happy, I'm happy...somewhat."

He turns back to his daughter who was planting a kiss on Luigi's check. Kalvin scoffed and turned his gaze on the green shelled koopa.

'How could I have loses to him? Him! A simple, worthless commoner...' He glared at Luigi and growled as he watch him returning Wendy's kiss with his own. The pink koopa blushed slightly which irritated him even more. 'The princess deserves better than him. In fact, the only koopa worthy of her affection... is me!'

Bowser stepped forward and broke up the couple of their public display of affection. "Alright, alright, enough of that; let's get this dinner started before I change my mind."

"Sir Kalvin, will you be joining us this evening?" Kammy asked.

Kalvin turns to the purple magikoopa and nodded. "Since I am here, I might as well."

'One way or another, I'm going to prove that this Kasanova Koopa is nowhere near worthy to be courting the princess. And once the king has realized it, the princess will rightfully belong to me.'
