AN: So I wanted to have this out yesterday, but then I saw that there was a new chapter of October Storm by frozenhikki, so obviously I got distracted by that (Everyone should check out that story by the way). I do have a plan with this on where the next few chapters are going, but for now prepare your feels, because there are going to be plenty of them coming. Thanks for sticking with this story and I hope you enjoy the chapter.
It had been a few days since Weiss had gotten the call from her mother about the funeral. In that time, Ruby noticed something different about her, something that gave Ruby a bad feeling deep down inside. She got that feeling that Weiss was going to do something that everyone would regret, even if it wasn't something that she wanted to do in the first place. Ruby couldn't shake the feeling though, and she had to deal with it and whatever else would come.
As Ruby sat in her room, making sure the last of her things was packed for the trip to Weiss' house, she was making note of ways that she could cheer Weiss up. She tried to be more affectionate, she tried to take her out to dinner, she tried letting her be alone, she even tried waiting on her hand and foot at one point. Nothing seemed to be working, and it kept upsetting Ruby even more. Ruby didn't like how Weiss was acting, it was something that she didn't like to see from anyone.
When Weiss eventually returned, she almost immediately grabbed the bag that she had packed the night before, and she looked like she wanted to get out of there as soon as possible. Ruby looked at Weiss, seeing an almost dead soul in her eyes, and she felt terrible. Ruby knew however, that she couldn't do anything for Weiss at that moment, and they would have quite a long drive over to Weiss' house so that would give her the opportunity to try and cheer her up. It was all a matter of what she could try, and whether Weiss wanted to listen to her or not.
On their way out, Ruby thought about something to talk about with Weiss. She considered making Weiss talk to her, but she didn't want to force her into it if she didn't want to. She probably wouldn't have been able to hold down a conversation with the girl anyway. Maybe playing a game would help. As they got to the car, Ruby was still thinking of what to do, not noticing that Weiss wasn't even realizing that she was there. Before she started the car, Ruby decided that she needed to say something to Weiss first.
"You ok Weiss?" Ruby asked. She didn't get a response, as Weiss just sat there, staring out the window. "Uh, Weiss? you there?" Again, no response from the white haired girl. Ruby shook her girlfriend, finally getting her attention. "Hey there you are. I thought you decided to leave me." Ruby tried to lighten the mood, but it only caused Weiss to hang her head low. Ruby immediately felt bad about her own joke, and immediately tried to calm her down. "Hey hey I was just trying to lighten the mood ok? I'm sorry if I upset you." Ruby looked at Weiss with longing, hoping that she would understand. Weiss looked at her, a smile across the face of Ruby, and then she sighed.
"I know." Weiss said very quietly. "I appreciate the gesture, but right now, I don't want to talk. Can we leave now?" It was all that Weiss said for the entire car ride. Ruby started the car and began their long journey towards the very large Schnee Manor. Ruby felt the mood in the air go dark and gray as the trip went on, much like the weather around them. It had been raining for days, which had done nothing good for Weiss' mood one bit. Ruby was really concerned for Weiss, not being able to help her through this was killing her. She thought about asking her parents about this when they got to her house, but in the meantime she had to deal with a depressed Weiss.
The trip seemed to drag on and on, leaving Ruby in a state of utter distress by the time they arrived at the Manor. The man at the gate, whom Ruby remembered giving her a hard time the last time she was here, let them in without a second thought as soon as she arrived. Ruby quickly pulled up and parked her car, the trip to Weiss' home over. The rain was coming down harder than ever, and Ruby quickly pulled hers and Weiss' bag out of the car. Weiss for some reason, simply sat inside of her car still, not moving. Ruby figured she was so far in thought that she didn't realize that they were there, so she gave Weiss a nudge, pulling her back into reality. "We're here Weiss." Weiss got out of the car, and slowly walked over to the front door, not a bit concerned about the rain.
Once they got into the house, Weiss almost immediately went to go throw her stuff into her room, leaving Ruby by the door alone. Ruby looked up at where Weiss ran off to, and she sighed. She stumbled backwards hitting her back against the wall, and she felt herself slide down the wall until she was sitting on the ground, defeated. Not a second later, Weiss' mother showed up to greet Ruby. "Hello Ruby." She started off, drawing Ruby's attention. "It's nice to see you again, though I wish it were under better circumstances. I take it the trip went about as well as it could have gone?"
Ruby shut her eyes and let her head lean back against the wall. "If you consider Weiss was quiet the entire trip and didn't even realize that I was there well, then yeah, it went as well as it could have gone." She said, the hint of sadness evident in her voice. "I wish there was something I could do to snap her out of this." Ruby said.
Mrs. Schnee shut her eyes, sighing as she approached Ruby. She knelt down and placed a hand onto Ruby's shoulder. "I would be lying if I said I was surprised by the way she is acting. Weiss and her grandmother were close." Mrs. Schnee helped Ruby to her feet. Ruby then grabbed her bag and the two of them walked up to Weiss' room so that she could put her stuff in there. "I suppose you want to change out of those wet clothes. I can check on Weiss while you do that." Ruby nodded as the two of them made it to Weiss' room. Once they got in there, they saw Weiss laying down on her bed, not a single care for what was going on around her. Weiss' mother nodded to Ruby to give the two of them a moment, and Ruby went to go get changed into something more comfortable. Once Ruby was out of the room, Mrs. Schnee walked over to Weiss, rubbing her back once she sat down on the bed next to her. "Weiss dear, I know you feel terrible right now, but you're worrying your friend Ruby. She's worried sick over you."
Weiss looked up at her mother, she felt terrible and just wanted to cry her sorrows away. "I know mom, I just feel like a huge part of my life is now gone." Weiss started to tear up and cry, something she had managed to hold back for a while.
"I can only imagine what you're going through dear, but I don't think you see that you have someone here who is willing to be there for you." Mrs. Schnee looked right into Weiss' eyes. "You have a truly great friend in Ruby, someone who is willing to go to great lengths, just to cheer you up. I can't think of anyone who would be a better friend to you right now than her."
Weiss remembered all that Ruby had done for her in the past few days. She went well out of her way, just to try and help, only to be met with more struggle. "I really wish Grandma could have met her. She would have loved Ruby."
Weiss' mother nodded. "She really would have, and why wouldn't she? Ruby has been the best friend you have ever had before Weiss." She was stating a clear fact, something that a lot of people knew.
"It's not just that though." Weiss knew deep down that there was another reason why she was upset over this, and it did revolve around Ruby. "Me and Ruby are, more than just friends." Weiss never told her parents about this, but she didn't doubt that they would be upset over this. A little surprised yes, but upset was definitely not anywhere in her mind.
She was right though, surprised was definitely the way to describe Weiss' mother. "Well now, that's something I didn't expect to hear." She then managed to think of something else that could explain Weiss' troubles. "I suppose that means you're upset you couldn't tell your Grandmother about you and Ruby then?" She hit the nail right on the head. Weiss buried her head into her pillow and wanted to be alone. Mrs. Schnee took the hint and slowly got up, preparing to head to the door. "I'm so sorry Weiss." Mrs. Schnee then took her leave, allowing Weiss to have a moment to herself.
Weiss walked over to one of the cabinets in her room. She opened it up and pulled out a bottle of Vodka that she kept in there for moments when she needed it, and do her, she felt like she needed it more than anything. Her mind was no longer arguing with her, instead it just wanted the pain to go away. A few minutes went by as she drank away her sorrows, leaving a brand new bottle almost two thirds of the way empty. Within minutes, she felt herself slip away, her mind no longer coherent enough to function.
Ruby walked back into the room with some food for herself and Weiss. When she saw the bottle that Weiss held in her hand, she immediately placed the food that she brought down on Weiss' bed, and the hot chocolate down on Weiss' desk and walked over to the drunken Heiress. She tried to pull the bottle out of her hands, but she was unsuccessful. Ruby argued with Weiss over the whole thing, but Weiss couldn't understand what she was saying. Eventually Ruby walked out of the room to use the bathroom. When she did, Weiss poured some of the Vodka she had into Ruby's hot chocolate, effectively spiking her drink.
Ruby came back into the room and finally took the bottle of Vodka out of Weiss' hand. After she put the bottle down, she grabbed her hot chocolate and took a sip of it. Somehow she didn't notice the vodka that was poured into the drink, so when she finished her drink, she was more prone to drinking more and more alcohol. Ruby and Weiss let the night fly away, drinking away the hours. As the time went on, Weiss decided to let her body start to act on its own. She decided that she had enough of just sitting with Ruby, and so she grabbed Ruby, passionately kissed her, and let herself dive headfirst into whatever actions that would follow.
