Part 34 Plots and Plans
No one really noticed the two men slip away and walk toward the taxi station. The meeting/wake was in constant flux as people from all over the community came in to listen to the news and pay their respects. The wake was set to last 72 hours to facilitate the various members of Boston's human and supernatural community. Even those that would normally consider themselves mortal enemies had stopped by if only to learn what had the leadership of the Coven in such a state. Even those that many might consider evil like vampires were welcomed under a white flag of truce. Oddly enough a few came bearing flowers. When one of the priests Father O'Malley asked why the young vampire was dropping flowers off for a Wiccan and slayers the answer was surprisingly honest. He knew that the Wiccans often had allies in the demon community but vampires was a bit of a surprise and he was curious as to why they were here honoring not only the witches but the slayers that seemed a bit off to him. He had expected them to be celebrating the latter's demise.
"I may be a vampire now father and while the slayers may have ended me they did not. They understood I did not get turned willingly and that I honestly never want to hurt anyone. I drink pig's blood or other animal blood most of the time; the human blood I must consume once every few months is freely given. I am from Dracula's line and one of his former mates turned me. I would have greeted the sun but the Count pointed out I could choose not to hurt anyone and that is what I do. I was a doctor and I guess my oath helps me stay true to my old calling. While I cannot practice in the exact same way in a regular office I can and do help the people who are forced to live on the streets. I work at Boston General as well. In return they donate when I need it for both my diet and other patients. It works well enough and because the ladies here trusted me the slayers did to. I even patched them up a time or two as crazy as that sounds and believe me Father if I find who killed them oath as a healer or not I might just turn them over to the count or Luc or maybe even end them myself oath or not. Neither will be happy with this action. I may not be human but I recognize good people and the ladies were the best. How about you I mean they were not exactly the type to visit your parish church. Even the slayers were not exactly the type the church would welcome for all their being good Irish girls."
The old priest chuckled at that. "True they did not visit on Sunday services but they always lent a helping hand to those families and individuals in need; while our religious views were not the same I did respect them deeply. They donated many a basket of goods for auctions or even for our parish food and emergency supply bin, their loss is tragic for all of us. I honestly expect to see them again one day in heaven."
The vampire nodded as he set the flowers down. "Maybe I will get lucky too. If not, then Father when you get to the other side please thank them for always being so kind to me."
Father O'Malley nodded a lump forming in his throat. He never considered how it might be for vampires and other demons. The church said they were damned souls but a part of him hoped that the ones like Carlisle who tried to do good and had no choice in being what they were would get a second chance and maybe mercy too. "Well then if you would like to honor them I could always use a helping hand finding people to work the night shift at the shelter front desk is not easy."
"I will consider it I may even ask my family if they would like to help." The doctor said.
The priest raised a brow at that.
"I am immortal Father living alone that long well would be maddening without the woman I love beside me."
"You turned your wife?"
"It was either change her into a vampire or watch her die that I could never do. Had she died the world would have been a far darker place. Plus I do believe Suicide is considered a mortal sin. My turning her spared her that. As I did it without her consent any sin in that fact is mine. I will gladly answer for it in the next life if I have one as having her by my side is worth everything to me."
"Well I suppose only God can judge your actions but as you say it spared her the sin of suicide and personally for what is worth not that I am God to judge I think your turning her was a noble thing."
Carlisle nodded and said "Thank you and perhaps we will visit the shelter one day soon."
The priest looked at him a bit oddly.
Carlisle grinned and said. "We can bear some sunlight though it does have a rather interesting affect on us. But that is for another day. My pager went off and I must go."
"God go with you then doctor and as strange as it may seem. I do hope we meet again."
The vampire smiled and walked out toward his car he had an emergency to see too.
TTTTTTTTTTTT
The taxi pulled up and the two men went out to get it. They had decided that a bit of recon was needed to check out the exactly how far the coven's wards went from their business. The day before it had been hard to tell as the wards had clearly been adjusted to allow those who wished to pay their respects to their fallen member. While both former watchers suspected they might be extensive they were shocked to see that they were indeed very complicated. The second unexpected situation was they found that all the women lived in various apartments near their shop. This could be either a blessing for their course of action or a complication.
"Well this is interesting." Post said as he checked out the ward scheme.
"It looks like a bloody pain in the arse for us." Quinton quipped however he then seemed to think deeply for a moment. "Then again it might be a good thing because we might be able to take them all out at once."
"Maybe, however we will need to defeat the wards first." Post then tapped his former colleagues arm and pointed. Travers saw what he was looking at and pulled his cap down low.
"We will it will simply take a bit of planning and cunning. We are not going to let these 'witches' keep causing the council issues." Travers said.
Post gave him a hard look knowing full well that the traditional council was dead and buried under a mound of rubble in London. However his goal was to make Summers and her counterpart pay for what happened to his sister so he was going to help Travers if that meant they were a council of two real watchers well he could live with that. However he also knew several of the hunter / wet works teams had escaped and were still out following orders as they were paid automatically from several secret accounts. His hacking had told him that. Of course since the accounts in question had been set up by Travers great-great-great-great-great grandfather and his own he wondered if the current Travers knew of their mission and that it was ongoing. Eliminating wild slayers or those deemed unfit had been a brain child of his own ancestor brought to the Travers family and implemented by his own. It was one of the reasons they had felt so betrayed when his sister had been booted from the council. They did the work many were to weak or squeamish to touch. It had been his family that arranged for potential to be taken into council custody or eliminated as needed.
"Several teams are still carrying out their mission." He said.
Travers nodded. He had known that and it was in fact one of the smaller back up accounts he had used to escape and set up his new identity.
"Yes and I am hoping to use them as a distraction if needed. However they are vital to the balance and as such we do have to protect them somewhat. I do not really want the SWC to find them as they are a dedicated bunch if not true watchers."
"I agree Quentin but I thought I should bring it up. Perhaps we could have one or more of the teams come to Boston to back us up. At least with them as guards we could rest a little better. While wards are well and good I still fancy a few guns at my back."
The former head watcher nodded while he was not fond of guns one had to admit they did tend to even the odds as the saying went. His counterpart had clearly been Americanized in his thinking but perhaps that was not a bad thing given they had to face off against witches of great power not to mention the slayers. "Yes that may be wise. I suggest we regroup and call in the back up while gathering the supplies and spells we will need to beat the wards. Also as much as I loathe the idea perhaps we could get the local vampire master to deal with the slayer issue for us. A pardon/ parole for him/her if he does so for us, the next real slayer can always end him if needed, as the fool is likely to break any truce we set."
"Good idea, l would rather head into this with each thing planned as we are no school boys to rush in foolishly." Post said with a grin. "Besides I want them to worry a bit."
Travers laughed and decided that this man was perhaps a worthy ally after all.
VVVVVVVVVVVVVVV
The youthful messenger came into the police station and removed his bike helmet. He just hoped that this was not something that would get him into trouble again. The last time he delivered a message to Detective Rizzoli's lady he had almost got tossed out a window. He walked up to the desk sergeant and said. "Excuse me sir I have a message for Doctor Isles."
The desk sergeant looked up and sighed. "I hope it's not bad news Jimmy Rizzoli is so not in a good mood. Crowe stuck his foot in it and she's being kind of defensive of the doc."
"I hope not sir but the boss said I had to deliver it as it comes from an important client and well since the Detective and Doctor all ready know me he figured I should deliver it. I guess he wants to spare the other guys being grilled. I mean Detective Rizzoli already knows I respect and like her and the doctor and would never do anything to hurt them. But really I so hate being the one who carries bad news."
The desk sergeant nodded feeling for poor Jimmy. The kid did seem to get stuck being the one to bring bad news. However he was a good kid and he knew Jane Rizzoli liked him or at least did now as the boy shown he had a good head and heart.
"I'll call them. If you want you can leave the package. I can make excuses for you."
"Thanks but the boss have my head as the Isles use our firm a lot to. Sometimes it really sticks having to work for my uncle Jameson."
There was laughter at that. "Well Jimmy just keep in mind why you do it. It will get you money to go to BCU."
"Yeah I suppose so. Anyway I just hope they don't shoot me." Jimmy said. "I mean it's hardly ever good news now is it. I guess that's why I get stuck with it all because no sense making them mad at all the others."
"Now Jimmy you are being too cynical." Sergeant Harrington said.

A/N: Sorry for the long delay in updating this. I had this chapter started but it kind of stalled out on me as my muse went on a walkabout. This is an unbetaed version so read at your own risk. If its not to your taste please move on. I in no way claim to be a good or professional writer this is done just to shut the muse up :)
Thank you,
