A quick update! I kinda got sucked into this story again :D The next chapter is also half done and I'll post next week! The rest of this week is looking busy, but I'll update Explosions probably tomorrow, if not today.
To those wondering about Spawn's name – He'll get a real name in this chapter :) Spawn's just a pet name for him. It was originally given by Tamsin (succubus' spawn) and it caught on and even Lauren started using it in the previous chapters :P
I don't know how the name giving process goes around the world, but here in Finland, when the baby is about 1 to 2 months old we have a christening or a name giving party where the official name is revealed to close family and friends. Until that the baby has a 'working title' :D or a pet name. Yeah so that's how we Finns do it and faes too! In this story anyway ;) Sorry for the confusion!
xoxo
The first month of Spawn's life had gone by in a flash. The new moms had settled to a certain rhythm defined by Spawn's sleeping and feeding patterns. Though both women were happy and excited to have started their family life, there was no denying the fact that life was also draining. They barely slept as Spawn woke up to eat every two or three hours. Setting up Spawn's name giving party had taken a backseat in their priorities.
Margaret and Barbara had been pestering both Bo and Lauren to arrange the name giving party for Spawn. The grandmothers disliked the baby boy's pet name with a vengeance. They wanted him to have a proper name as soon as possible. Meanwhile they had agreed to address the tiny fae with terms of endearment such as baby, sweetie and pumpkin. Just like the boy's grandfathers.
Finally fed up with the older women's nagging and moaning about the name giving Lauren and Bo relented and gave their permission to the grandmothers to organize the party. They did have strict conditions for this though. Both Bo and Lauren wanted a small intimate party with only close family and friends. No distant aunts or uncles allowed. Ten guests no more, Bo had said repeatedly. The stress from the baby life was enough without worrying about a huge gathering of relatives, she had pointed out.
.
Margaret and Barbara, Spawn's Nana and Grandma as they were called, had excitedly dove into the party organizing. And like they had promised Bo and Lauren hadn't had to do anything other than concentrating on taking care of their son. The name giving party would be in a week. Tonight they were all enjoying dinner at the Lewis' house. Lauren, Bo and Spawn had come to the house earlier so that the doting grandparents had time to cuddle spawn, before he went down for a nap. The group had eaten dinner on the patio right after Tamsin, Robin and Kenzi had also arrived.
"Mom, the name giving party you're arranging for Spawn.." Lauren started as she stacked a bunch of plates in her arms.
"Pumpkin." Margaret corrected automatically.
"Right. About his party.."
"Yes?" Margaret acknowledged making her way inside the house. "It's coming along nicely."
"It's just that.. What the hell are you and Barbara doing?" Lauren asked anxiously as she followed her mother towards the kitchen placing the dished in the sink.
"Language honey." Margaret berated disapprovingly.
"Sorry mom. I'm sorry, but the party for our baby was supposed to be a small gathering. Close family and friends. Ten people! And now I'm getting calls from aunts and cousins I haven't seen in years. People from work! How many are coming next week?" Lauren ranted with an edgy tone.
"Well.." Margaret fidgeted nervously, while her eyes were darting around the kitchen restlessly.
"Mom?" Lauren pressed getting aggravated.
"Honey, the whole thing sort of.. Well, escalated when more and more people found out. I couldn't say no to aunt Ethel for instance.. She's quite persistent. And then a few of your colleagues are coming.. But it'll be okay. We'll handle it. We are handling it."
"How many?"
"50ish.. Or so.." Margaret mumbled loading the dishes in the washer.
"Over 50 people!?" Lauren screeched making Margaret flinch. "I don't believe it! 50 people! Plus us! That makes it 60!"
"I know, I know.. But we were so excited for everyone to meet the baby.. We're having the party here in our house. They'll fit just fine.."
"The house is not big enough for that."
"We have a yard." Margaret pointed out sheepishly.
"For your sake I hope it doesn't rain." Lauren snapped sighing heavily.
"Right.." Margaret wrung her hands trying to think of something to say to calm down her daughter.
"Does Bo know?" Lauren pointed vaguely to the patio.
"I don't think so." Margaret croaked out hesitantly.
"Well great.. Just great. She's gonna find out and rip her mother a new one. Bo explicitly told Barbara.. Told both of you to keep it small and simple. 50 guests is not simple mom! It's anything but!"
"Maybe some of them will cancel?" Margaret tried lamely.
"Hmph." Lauren eyed her mother with narrowed eyes. "You two are not planning or organizing our wedding at all just so you know."
"What?! No!" Margaret squealed alarmed. "Honey, you don't mean that. We already have some ideas!"
"I do. And I'm sure Bo'll agree with me. Our wedding is going to be extremely small, because you managed to balloon up Spawn's name giving party like this."
"Lauren.. Sweetie.. I promise we'll do better with the wedding. Me and Barbara." Margaret pleaded following her fuming daughter. "Honey?"
"You'll get an invite like the rest of our guests." Lauren patted her mother on her arm and sauntered a way. "Or we might just elope." She threw on her way.
"No! Oh for fuck's sake! How did this happen?!" Margaret snarled left alone in the living room. "Barbara!" She barked.
"I heard that! Language dear mother." Lauren snickered from the patio. Her mother rarely lost her cool like that. Mom should have followed orders better. She got what she deserved, Lauren mused.
"What was that about?" Bo asked Lauren with wide eyes as the blond sat down beside her hearing Margaret roaring inside. Using the f-word no less!
"You'll find out soon enough.. You should really talk to your mother." Lauren sighed meeting Bo's baffled eyes.
"Oh? Why's that?"
"She has.. a surprise for you." Lauren met Bo's eyes.
"Really? A surprise?" Bo lifted her eyebrow with a curious expression.
"Yes. You're not gonna like it. It's something that forced me to ban our mothers from organizing our wedding."
"You banned them? So it's something god awful! What did they do?!" Bo hissed.
"Go ask you mother." Lauren said dryly. "But if Barbara has talked to my mother already, she's probably hiding from you." She smirked a little despite herself.
"Shit." Bo bolted from her seat to find her mother.
After a beat Bo's yelling carried out to the yard. "50 guests?! Mom! What the hell were you two thinking?! Aunt May? I don't even know who the fuck that is!"
"What's that about?" Kenzi asked Lauren and Tamsin also seemed interested what the racket was about.
"Spawn's name giving party. The grandmom posse has invited fifty guests to it. Our limit was ten. So Bo's pissed. I'm pissed. And they will not be planning our wedding in any way."
"Oh poor grannies." Tamsin deadpanned making everyone chuckle. "That's got to hurt."
"Such drama for otherwise pleasant Sunday afternoon." Daniel smirked. "At least Mini Bumble Bee is sleeping peacefully." He added glancing at the baby sleeping in his travel bassinet in the shade next to Lauren.
"Yeah.. He actually slept for over 4 hours straight last night." Lauren smiled softly as she gazed down on her son. "Both Bo and I woke up after 3 hours to check that he was still breathing." She let out a small laugh.
"You'll get used to it. He'll sleep more as he grows." John smiled fondly. "He's already so much bigger than when we first saw him at the hospital."
"Spawn is growing like a weed." Lauren said affectionately. "My big boy."
.
"So did you and Lauren make up with your mothers?" Kenzi asked, while going over a case file with Bo in their favorite diner.
"Is this a new case?" Bo motioned to a file.
"Yeah. Nothing difficult. Surveillance." Kenzi rattled looking bored. "So your mothers? The party is in a few days."
"We're fine. They apologized for going overboard."
"What about the wedding? Are you going to let them mess that.. I mean participate in planning?" Kenzi smirked.
"Both of them are on probation at the moment." Bo said slyly. "If they behave, we'll probably let them help. A little."
"That's nice.." Kenzi eyed Bo. "Did Lauren's brother fly in already?"
"Yeah. Tommy came yesterday. He's staying with his folks. We had dinner with them last night."
"How was it? Better than last time?" Kenzi snickered.
"Shut up." Bo huffed annoyed. "I know my first meeting with Tommy was.."
"Embarrassing?" Kenzi inserted gleefully. She remembered Bo telling her about meeting Tommy months ago.
"Yes.. A little." Bo shot a glare at Kenzi. "I told you I thought he'd rip into me having gotten his baby sister pregnant. And after all those things Daniel told me about him.. you know him being overprotective, slightly violent crazy older brother.. With fists of steel and no hesitation.. I was scared shitless meeting him. Then I saw him in the doorway looking all huge, mean, dangerous and.. The Rock look-a-like."
"And then he turned out to be a big fluffball." Kenzi laughed.
"Right." Bo smirked. "I should have known Daniel was shitting me the whole time." She groaned, remembering how she'd sidestepped baffled Tommy and stayed behind Lauren the whole evening, when she had first met the man. Even his big gentle smiles hadn't calmed her down.
"It was.. embarrassing." Bo shrugged sheepishly.
"I wish I could have been there." Kenzi teased dreamily. "So have you decided on the name? Spawn's name?"
"You'll find out on Sunday." Bo said distractedly while making some notes on the papers in front of her.
"I'm only asking 'cause I have some suggestions.." Kenzi patted Bo's hand.
"Like?" Bo lifted her eyes to meet Kenzi's.
"Bono – Then you could be like, you know, Bobo, Lolo and their son Bono? It kinda rhymes?"
"No." Bo rolled her eyes dramatically. "It kinda doesn't."
"You're no fun." Kenzi spat disappointed. "What about.. Freddie, Bruce, Jim, Mick, Jagger.."
"Your reciting rock stars now aren't you?" Bo huffed. "No to all those!"
"Be that way! I would have gone punk soon! Rollins, Ramone, Rotten.." Kenzi hissed. "I'm not helping you anymore."
"And for that I am truly grateful." Bo snorted. "Lauren and I have a name for our baby. So both you and Tamsin can stop.. helping."
"Fine!" Kenzi huffed. "Were my suggestions at least better than Tamsin's?"
"I'll give you that. Yours were better. Tamsin listed a bunch of old Nordic viking names." Bo chuckled shaking her head. "She was totally offended, when Lauren shot all of them down."
"Then I'm at least the cool aunt. A rock star."
"Yeah.. Jagger is better than Asgrim or Bolwerk – so yes you're the cool aunt. For now."
"Yes!" Kenzi made a fist pump. "You have to tell me what name you picked."
"You'll find out at the party like everyone else."
"But I am the cool.."
"At the party Kenz."
"Crap. Not fair.." Kenzi pouted.
.
"Thank you all for coming." Lauren managed to say without sarcasm lacing her voice to the large crowd gathered on her parents back yard. "The man of the our is sadly sleeping upstairs at the moment, but we'd like to do the honors and inform you of his name." She smiled and nodded to Bo who was standing next to her on the steps to the patio.
"Yes. Thank you all for coming today and celebrating our son's name giving." Bo beamed holding Lauren's hand in hers. "Our son's name is Milo Cooper Dennis." She announced to the awaiting audience and received big smiles and claps.
"His godparents are Tommy, Kenzi and Tamsin." Lauren introduced smiling warmly at the three standing next to her and Bo.
"Milo should be up in about an hour to greet his visitors." Lauren grinned. "In the meantime please enjoy the food prepared by our mothers Barbara and Margaret."
"Bo could you go check on Milo?" Lauren whispered, when guests started to head to the tables.
"Sure. I'll go."
"So Milo's a Dennis?" John smiled widely at Lauren. "And Cooper after Barbara's father?"
"Yes." Lauren nodded. "And Milo after my mother's grandfather."
"You're gonna be a Dennis too?" John asked cheekily.
"Hyphenated Lewis-Dennis." Lauren smiled. "If that's okay?"
"Of course it is." John pulled his daughter-in-law into a tight hug. "It's an honor to have you and Milo carry our family name."
.
"So how was Milo?" Lauren asked, when Bo came back to her.
"Still sleeping." Bo said softly and pecked Lauren on the lips.
"Hey Milo's mommies." Kenzi gave a wide grin as she sauntered towards them with a plate full of food. "Great name Milo Cooper. Much better than Boltwerk Assgrind." She said slyly to Tamsin, who was trailing behind her.
"Bolwerk Asgrim!" The valkyrie hissed.
"Whatever."
"Where's Robin?" Lauren asked looking around. "Did she have to go already? I know she's on-call today."
"She's right there." Tamsin pointed to a table. "Talking to Trick and Dyson. I don't know why, but she finds them fascinating. Well Trick I kinda understand, but Dyson?" The valkyrie smirked.
"Oh here they come." Bo gave a heads up, when she saw their mothers approaching.
"You two made me cry." Margaret murmured tearfully.
"Me too." Barbara said with a quivering lower lip. "Milo Cooper. It's perfect. Thank you. I feel so honored." She whispered tearfully.
"To have you give those names to your son.. I bawled on Daniel's shoulder, when you told us his name. It's beautiful. Daddy loves it too honey."
"I know. He told me." Lauren said softly. "I talked to him a moment ago."
"You chose names of our loved ones... It made us feel so special. Didn't it Barbara?" Margaret sniffled hugging Lauren.
"It truly did. Does." Barbara choked out between sobs.
"You are special and we love you." Lauren said feeling emotional herself.
"Yes. What she said." Bo hugged her mother and the Margaret. "You two are great."
"Thank you." The older women cried in unison.
"And thanks for organizing this get-together. We know it was hard work. And still is until the guests leave." Bo smirked a little.
"Right." Margaret cleared her throat wiping her eyes. "Which reminds me, we have make more coffee." She gave Bo and Lauren both kisses on their cheeks, before tugging Barbara with her towards the kitchen.
"Was that the reaction you expected?" Tamsin teased.
"More a less." Bo smiled.
"They were a mess." Kenzi said seriously, before adding grinning. "Two happy messes that is."
"Very happy." Lauren agreed.
.
"Milo's sleeping?" Lauren asked as Bo trotted to their bedroom.
"He is. Out like a light." Bo smiled getting in bed next to the nymph. "Busy day for all of us." She kissed Lauren gently.
"Very busy. Our mother's were totally spent after today." Lauren chuckled. "Waiting on hand foot on everyone."
"Serves them right. They invited everyone."
"It was kinda nice to see even the more distant relatives. Not that I'd tell that to our parents." Lauren put the book she had been reading down on the night table and snuggled against the succubus.
"Yeah. Kinda. Though I would have liked to avoid aunt May's detailed 45 minute narrative on her neighbor's intestinal problems.." Bo sighed tiredly.
"Thank gods that's done now huh?"
"We still have the wedding to suffer through." Bo smirked to let the nymph know she was joking.
"Oh the suffering and torment." Lauren grinned mischievously. "Our wedding is gonna be great. I can't wait to marry you." She added softly.
"I know. It's gonna be awesome." Bo chuckled happily, before leaning in for a kiss. "In six months I get to call you my wife. How about that?" She murmured against Lauren's lips.
"How about that indeed." Lauren exhaled smiling.

Thanks for reading :)
