A/N: Sorry I haven't updated over the last few days! I've been quite busy – with school about to go back and all. There won't be an update tomorrow as I am going out and will not have the time to write the next chapter... From now on, since school is going back, updates will be less frequent than they have been over the past two weeks and I will try – emphasis on TRY – to update on Wednesday's Australian time.

Chapter 29

Clary's POV

When I finally opened my eyes again, I found myself staring at a white ceiling.

"Clary?" I heard my mother's voice say. I turned my head and saw her sitting beside me.

It was now that I realized I was in a hospital. "Valentine did this... he attacked me..." I said, no longer wanting to refer to him as my father.

"I know... and he won't be able to hurt you again. He's been arrested and I'm planning to get a restraining order put on him so he can't come near you, Jonathan or me after he is let out..." my mother said, brushing some of my hair away from my face.

Jonathan appeared behind my mother and smiled down at me. "How are you feeling?" he asked me.

"Alright I guess... my leg hurts a bit..." I replied.

"Well... you bruised your hip and broke a bone in your leg... that would explain the pain," Jonathan said. "And you were out cold for three days..."

"Three days?" I said, my voice slightly higher than normal.

Jonathan just nodded. "Your friends have been really worried about you as well... I didn't know you had so many friends... I thought there was only Simon," he said.

I looked at him for a moment and he gestured to the other side of the bed.

I turned my head and saw all my friends standing there in a group; Simon, Isabelle, Alec, Magnus, Aline, Maia, Jordan and Jace – they were all here.

Smiles spread across their faces and Jace – who was closest to the bed – moved closer and I felt his hand touch mine. His hand was rather warm and I felt the familiar spark pulse through my hand and up my arm.

"Clary... you have no idea how worried I've been," he said quietly. I could see it in his gold eyes though; the pain and worry that had been flooding his mind these past few days was evident. He looked like he hadn't really slept, if he'd slept at all.

"Have you even slept these past few days?" I asked him, reaching up to lightly stroke the dark shadows that were under his eyes.

Jace shook his head, his messy blonde hair falling into his eyes. He reached up and pushed it back before he spoke. "I've been attending class, of course, but whenever I've had a spare moment, I've been sitting here beside you. I would stay as late as I possibly could and then when I got back to the academy, I would just lay awake most of the time worrying about you."

"Oh Jace..." I said.

Jace just gave me a small smile before Alec spoke up. "All he's really spoken about the past few days is wanting to hurt the guy that hurt you. I swear there were quite a few moments where he nearly walked out of the school with a baseball bat."

I chuckled slightly as did some of my friends and my Mom and brother.

"At least I did hit him at one point..." Jace said.

I quickly looked back at Jace. "You went near him?" I asked, slightly shocked.

"No," Jace replied. "I was near you the whole time you were on the ground... I did throw a mango at him though... and then the sidewalk killed it..."

I laughed slightly. "Why did you have a mango?"

"I was bored and I was throwing it in the air... I heard screaming and saw you getting hurt but at that point, I wasn't certain it was you... Alec and I went outside and well... Alec pushed your father away from you and I eventually threw the mango," Jace said.

"Please don't refer to him as my father..." I said. "And technically, the mango hit him... you didn't."

"I threw the mango that hit him therefore, I hit him," Jace replied.

I just rolled my eyes slightly.

I was about to say something in return but at that moment, the doctor walked in and came around to the bed.

"I see you're awake now Clary... how are you feeling?"

"Alright I guess... my leg is hurting a little but other than that I feel fine," I replied.

The doctor nodded and wrote something down on the piece of paper he had in his hand.

"I was just wondering, do you know when I will be able to leave here?" I asked when the doctor looked back up.

"Well," the doctor replied. "Considering the fact that you suffered a head injury and the fact that you were unconscious for three days, we will keep you in here overnight and see how you are tomorrow morning."

I suppressed a groan and nodded. I didn't like hospitals but I would put up with it for the next few hours.

~o~O~o~

Before I knew it, visiting hours were over and everyone had to leave.

"I'll see you tomorrow when you come back to school... if you don't get let out tomorrow, I'll be here as soon as school finishes," Jace said, leaning down to kiss me briefly.

If my Mom and my brother weren't still in the room, I was certain Jace would've continued kissing me but he pulled back after a brief second and gave me a small smile.

"Hopefully you'll get out tomorrow," Magnus said to me as he gave me a slightly awkward, one-armed hug. "If you do... I will throw a party celebrating the fact that you were released from the hospital."

I laughed slightly. "Of course you will Magnus," I replied. In the short period of time I had known Magnus, I had discovered he loved to party. And he loved glitter.

"Things have been a little boring at school without you as well... bye Clary..." Magnus said.

The rest of the goodbyes were brief – mainly people saying they hoped I was let out in the morning – and eventually, everyone but my Mom and Jonathan had left the hospital room.

"I'm assuming Jace is your boyfriend?" Jonathan asked.

Right. I'd never told him that. "Yeah," I replied.

Jonathan just nodded. "If he ever hurts you, let me know and I'll hunt him down," he said, wrapping an arm around my shoulders.

I nodded. "Of course, Jonathan," I said with a laugh.

With that said, my Mom and brother left the room and I leaned back on the bed, hoping I would be let out of here tomorrow morning.
