AN: I only had time to write an even shorter chapter, but this one tries to settle the Yang vs. Neo for a moment. Tell me what you think :) -CakeLegends

The Lonesome Road - Chapter 29

"This isn't the worst situation I've been in." Weiss reasoned to herself.

An hour ago, the Heiress would have bet her inheritance against the chances of this happening.

She sat next to Neo, huddled behind the protection of an overturned metal table in the airport cafeteria.

Ruby, Yang and Blake had taken cover behind tables all across the cafe. A squad of walking tanks stood between them, firing wildly at the slightest movement.

'This was your fucking idea.' read Neo's expression. 'Just stay here, I'll handle this.'

"What? You might be tough, but those guys are practically untouchable all together. We'll need to regroup to plan out an attack-"

Neo darted out of the cover. She ran with quiet steps up to the assembly of soldiers.

The nearest guard heard her just in time. He raised a pointing hand to the attacking acrobat. "She's over-"

Using her small size, Neo continued to freerun, kicking herself off the man's arm and rolling over his shoulder. The man almost stumbled from her dizzying movements.

Weiss watched as the girl quickly ran through the group without a hint of slowing down, making brief, deliberate contact with each one before slipping behind the cover of a flipped table.

"That was stupid." Weiss mumbled. "What was the point in-?"

The Heiress paused as she saw Neo peak over her cover, grinning mischievously and twirling something shiny around her fingers. She squinted and saw the item's the acrobat swiped from the soldiers.

Grenade pins.

Before Neo had a chance to congratulate herself, her eyes locked with the blonde girl, hidden at a table dangerously close to the cluster of active human grenades.

She sprinted as quickly as possible and took a kneeling position in front of the shocked girl. Without missing a beat, she pointed her now-opened umbrella to shield them both.

An ear-shattering explosion consumed the squad in an instant.

Neo's umbrella deflected the bulk of the explosion. The girls were still pushed down, but it felt infinitely better than a torturous inferno.

Yang felt the ringing in her ears calm down. She felt a tap against her nose. Her vision slowly cleared from its dark blurriness.

Her eyes opened to a pair of gloved fingers waving snapping in front of her face. Yang's eyes trailed passed the gloves, to a pair of concerned multi-colored eyes.

"Gah- the fuck!?"

Yang shot onto her feet, grabbed the acrobat by her collar and pinned her to a nearby pillar, her feet dangling a good foot above the ground.

"Yang, put her down." Ruby commanded.

"Why the hell should I?"

"Well, she did just save your life." the Heiress quipped as she and Blake arrived at the scene. "She's not White Fang. She's a freelancer. Please, just trust me for a minute."

"...Alright…fine." Yang muttered begrudgingly. "But if she makes one false move, I'm going to knock her ass out and drag her to prison."

The Blonde shoved Neo against the pillar once more for good measure. "Did you hear me, Asshole?"

Without warning, the smirking Neo grabbed the Blonde by the sides of her face and kissed her hard.

Yang immediately released the acrobat, turning and audibly wiping her tongue. "Gugh, my mouth was fucking open!"

The Blonde turned to the snickering Faunus. "Aren't you going to kick her ass?"

"For what?" Blake laughed back.

"For what?" Yang repeated in disgust. "For treading on your woman! Front that little asshole! Get all primal on that bitch!"

"Are you kidding me?" Blake asked with a large grin. "Look at how tiny she is compared to you. Plus she did it to piss you off. That shit was adorable."

Ruby and Weiss began to snicker as well.

"Screw you guys...let's just grab Penny and get out of here."

Neo reached into her pocket and pulled out a cigarette. Her smirk was practically verbal. 'After all how badly I kicked your ass, you really think it would've been that easy, dipshit?'

Yang frowned. "If she smokes anywhere near my car, I swear I'm going to-"

"We don't have time for this. I'll explain later." Weiss barked, grabbing at the Blonde's forearm to show her urgency. "Let's get this over with. We have to move fast...before any more of them show up."
