The sun rose up slowly as Sunday emerged over acme acres, a day off for everybody (well it should be); in a metal burrow an orange rabbit was sound asleep, resting off the party from last night.

Apart from his breathing there wasn't a sound,

Then the phone rang,

As you can imagine this didn't go down too well.

Adam jolted out of his sleep and his eyes flickered around trying to find the source of noise, his mind was in that stage when you've just woken up and everything is strange to you,

You've all had it.

Eventually he found out it was the phone and picked it up, he coughed to clear his throat of whatever had built up in it over night before he brought it to his white mussel,

''Hello?'' he asked,

''...''

He raised an eyebrow, ''hello?'' he asked again, louder this time.

''...''

Adam hung it up thinking it weird and tried to get comfy, but almost 6 seconds later the phone rung again, he grabbed it and shoved it to his ear,

''Hello?''

''...''

''Hello?!''

''...''

Adam forcefully put the phone down with a bit of a bang and lay back down praying it wouldn't ring again,

So of course it did.

His fur bristled he snatched it up and answered as politely as he could despite wanting to smash his phone,

''Hello?!''

''...''

''HELLO?!''

''...''

He was just about to slam the phone down (and let loose a string of swears I can't write here) and unplug it but had a thought suddenly, he brought the phone back to his mussel.

''Calamity is that you?''

''...''

''If its you tap the phone twice''

''...'Clack-clack'...''

Adam fell back onto his pillow still holding the phone, ''Calamity you have an I.Q around 500, why did you think phoning me was a good idea when you can't talk?''

''...''

it was then it clicked in his mind that asking him something over the phone was also pretty pointless, he sighed and rested his hand over his eyes, ''look its too early in the morning anyway, wait a while then come round cos where gettin' no-where 'ere'' and he hung up,

He really wished he could have one day where he could lie in without being interrupted.

Fat chance.

this was proven even further an hour later when there was a knock at the hatch and he had no choice but to get out of bed,

He wasn't too thrilled to see the same coyote that had woken him up an hour earlier through the periscope but opened the hatch anyway.

''Hello Calamity'' he said without much enthusiasm, ''what was it you tried to say on the phone?''

The grey coyote pulled out a sign, 'remember when I helped you out getting revenge on Montana max?''

while the orange rabbit was still a little miffed that Calamity (in his opinion) broadcasted that act of vengeance when he really just wanted to keep it quiet, he couldn't help but smirk remembering what had happened to Montana max in the aftermath.

''Yeah I remember, thanks again for that!'' he said, Calamity flipped the sign,

'You owe me a favour for helping'.

Adam was a bit taken aback by that but had to concede, ''Err alright then'' he said, ''what do you want?''

Calamity pulled out a second sign as he put the first away, 'don't worry, it's easy'.

Grunts and strained sounds echoed through the empty hallways of Acme Looniversity, an orange rabbit gritted his teeth as he pushed a large cart along the corridor, it was filled with metal, wires, and large pieces of machinery he didn't understand.

''Last time I ask a favour from that flippin coyote'' he muttered, this was the third trip he had made with this cart and was heading back to the schools science lab,

He just thanked god it was all on ground level, he was not taking this thing up several floors.

Plus he had bad experience with stairs; he rubbed his side thinking back,

He could still see specks of red where he had fallen each time he passed it.

The janitor wasn't great at his job.

Suddenly his cart hit something and he stopped, he peered round to see why.

'Speak of the devil' he thought.

There was an orangey-yellow puma looking at the cart and prodding it here and there, he had a blue cap and a mop and wore a jacket with a name tag that read 'Pete'.

Adam knew who this was but only just, he had been in few loony tunes, but a Looney toon is a Looney toon so he was still nervous, being around them still freaked him out.

He thanked god he hadn't met a certain Tasmanian devil yet.

Suddenly the puma looked in his direction, the orange rabbit flinched but tried not to look nervous,

He had to get used to his teachers at some point.

The puma walked over and looked thoughtfully at the young toon rabbit, he looked like he was concentrating, then he pointed at Adam and spoke,

''Errrr hey! Its Sunday...I think, you shouldn't be here!''

''I'm helping Calamity out with something, we've got permission to be here'' said Adam albeit quietly,

To be quite honest he didn't know if this was true or not, he just didn't know what to say,

The puma was prodding something in the cart with his finger; Adam was just about to point out that he should be careful when-

'BZZZZZZT'

Pete was enveloped in a blue/white light and shot back against the hallway wall, his arm was still outstretched and his finger still pointing,

Cept it was blackened and covered in snow.

He popped off the wall and stumbled around,

''Dahh-ouch! Err I better get the first aid kit'' he said dizzily and stumbled to a door, ''I think it's in here'' and he stumbled through,

there was a thudding, clattering, smashing sound as the door swung shut and Adam was able to see what was written on it,

'BASEMENT'.

He considered looking to see if he was alright, but figured he had enough experience in falling to be okay,

Plus he was sort of afraid of what he'd see.

So he gave the cart a hard shove with his shoulder to get it moving and carried on down the corridor.

Eventually he reached a double doorway that was plastered with signs, telling everyone 'Danger Zone', 'Go Away' and 'This Means You',

Adam had thought that last one funny but after seeing it four times now it was wearing thin, especially since he found out this also applied to him.

He was pushing carts of god-knows-what for him he should at least be able to see it!

He knocked on the door and listened to the sounds of metal clattering around behind it as he waited for the grey canine,

when it opened Calamity zoomed out and began checking over all the things in the cart to see if they were all there, eventually he smiled and gave a thumbs up before he began to pull the cart through the doors,

''Hey Calamity'' Adam said speaking up, ''can't I see what you've been doing in there?''

Calamity paused and it looked like he was considering it,

''I've been carting all this stuff around for you, cant I at least see what it's for?''

Calamity rubbed his chin, an action the orange rabbit wasn't aware people actually did, but then he smiled again and nodded,

Adam pushed the cart through the doors to the lab as Calamity pulled it from the front, they went through the thresh-hold and Adam took his first look around the lab, he hadn't been in it before, he hadn't had a science class yet.

It was enormous! Although he was sure it would have looked even bigger if it wasn't full of Calamities devices,

There were huge pieces of machinery everywhere, even nailed to the roof! The more Adam looked he found they were all linked and seemed to be part of one big machine,

And when I say big I mean BIG.

There was a grated platform in the middle of the room that looked like where all the action would take place but what action it was he had no idea.

''You've been busy'' he commented as a he looked all around him, they wheeled the cart over to a console and Calamity began pulling out bits of machinery and inserting them in the machine, Adam peered over.

''What's this all for anyway?'' he asked, Calamity turned and whipped out a blue print before handing it to the orange rabbit, he read the title.

'HUMOUR-ENHANCER'

''Humour enhancer?'' he asked, he looked up to see Calamity holding up a sign, 'Babs asked me to build it for her',

Adam dreaded to think of the favor he'd ask from her when all this was over, he had an ache in his shoulder from loading and delivering that cart.

''Isn't this thing going to take up a lot of power? I mean it's bigger than a lorry!''

Calamity paused but Adam continued not noticing,

''The school board is going to kill you when they see there bill'' he noted with a small smile,

The coyote pulled out a sign, ''it has a different power source''

As he showed the sign he used it to block Adam's view slightly so he could kick a stray tarp over a crate,

''what, that thing?'' the rabbit asked pointing at a hamster wheel attached to the console, ''I don't care how much cartoon logic or toon power you put into it I don't see how that can power this!'' he said gesturing around him,

Calamity's eyes darted round, but Adam spoke before he could pull out another sign, ''look it probably doesn't matter, shall I stick this in corner?'' he said gesturing to the cart,

a relieved coyote nodded and the rabbit began to shove the cart out of the way, when it was where it needed to be he turned back round but as he did he saw several enormous wires and pipes going into a storage room,

''S'that it?'' he asked gesturing to the door, Calamity zipped over and stood in front of it, smiling nervously,

'It's just a storeroom' said his sign, and to try and look casual he lent against the door,

And promptly fell over as it opened, and landed in the storeroom.

Adam peered in at the coyote; he smirked slightly at seeing that spectacle.

But when he looked up the smile slid off his face like rain off a window pane.

He saw now where the machine was getting all its power, but now he really wished he hadn't.

a large steel wall stood in front of him, it was adorned with hatches and gauges and all sorts of controls, further up there was a small window where a green glow was coming from that seemed to pulsate slightly.

But that's not what got his attention.

what got his attention was the signs plastered all over it, a black dot and 3 triangles set evenly apart around it set on a bold yellow background,

He knew this sign, he knew it well,

It was the same one that had been on almost every armored lorry that had passed through his old town...

His orange fur paled and his white fur...stayed the same.

He backed away but wasn't looking where so backed straight into the crate Calamity had covered, he tripped over it ragging the tarp off, it was a black crate and it had the same sign painted on it.

he scooted away backwards as fast as he could into his back slammed into the console's side, he didn't even blink, he just kept staring at the 'power source' through the doors, his heart was racing and banging around in his rib cage and he shivered visibly.

Calamity shut the doors quickly and ran over, he pulled out a sign.

'It's only temporary!' it said, adams eyes flicked up to it for a second before refocusing on the storage room where...'it' was,

''s'alright'' chocked out Adam, ''s'alright, you have a n-nu-nuclear reactor in the school''

He was trying his hardest to not show just how utterly frightened of the thing he was,

He wasn't doing well.

'It's a very small one' signed Calamity, 'it's the smallest one Acme sells'.

Adam figured that company would have a hand in this.

'its completely safe' continued the coyote, Adam shakily got up and took a deep breath, ''okay'' he got out, ''so long as its safe its... okay'' he said with some force. ''It's that the last cart you needed?''

Calamity nodded,

''Okay then i guess i'll just... I... I gotta go'' he said walking away very quickly ''good luck with your machine'' he said and walked through the double doors.

as soon as he left the doors he pelted it down the hallway for all he was worth, he didn't know why you always run faster inside a school corridor but he was grateful for it now more than ever.

He skidded to a stop just outside the doors and after recomposing himself he carefully opened it and left the school, as he walked down the steps of the famous entrance he saw both Babs and Hampton walking up, they spotted him as he walked down.

''Oh hey Adam'' said Babs, ''what are you doing here?''

''Just helping Calamity with something'' he said, ''i owed him a favor'',

''well I was just about to go practice some comedy routines'' she said, ''and I've got Calamity to build me something that'll really give it a kick! Wanna see?''

''No thank you, I've err...got somewhere to be'' said Adam politely, and he walked quickly away without looking back once.

In Acme Acres Park an orange rabbit walked in throughout the entrance, he'd been here before and decided to come back for a while,

Albeit that time he'd more-or-less parachuted in.

He felt he was a safe enough away from Calamity's machine, but if that thing went Chernobyl Adam swore that Calamity would be lucky if the radiation got to him before he did.

He took a deep breath, he had to calm down, and he could feel his heart racing,

Speaking of which.

He reached into his hammer space and pulled out the bottle of pills, he peered through the brown glass under the label, there wasn't many left inside it.

His pains in his side were lessening, he hoped by the time he finished they would be gone altogether.

He thought about it as he swallowed it, Toons usually just fixed themselves in a second. Why couldn't he?

putting that thought aside for now he realized he had another problem, what to do?

He was in the middle of the park, somewhere he didn't go that often, so wasn't sure what to do with himself.

Then he noticed something further away from him, Furball was disappearing around a hillock, he could just see something over the top of it but couldn't quite make out what it was.

As usual his curiosity got the better of him and he got up off the bench to go and have a look, he ran over to where Furball had disappeared and stopped round the other side, his eyes widened,

It was a playground.

An immense playground at that.

Various Tiny Toons were playing around on the steel attractions, Adam looked at some of the jungle gyms and slides, they were all so much bigger than him and not just because of his new small size, they really were enormous.

Either this was a cartoon thing or this was before all those 'health and safety' laws came into the world and messed it up.

He stepped onto the large sanded area and looked all around at the mass of swings, slides, roundabouts and climbing frames.

he thought for a second, back in his old world he had been a bit old for a playground, but now in this universe he was younger, 12 or something same as the other tiny toons he had been told.

So why not?

Then he saw something he had always loved when he was young, he ran over to the swings and grabbed a free one,

it all felt so foreign yet familiar to him as he sat down on the wooden board and grasped the ropes, for a second he just sat there suspended off the ground with his feet dangling before he started to swing, he remembered why he had loved it so much as he felt the wind start to rush through his fur, it was a strange feeling but it was far from feeling bad.

He was having fun!

Eventually though he stopped and jumped off landing a good few feet away from it, he was just thinking what to do next when he saw Furball motioning for him on the roundabout, he ran over excitedly.

''you get on and I'll push!'' he said getting into the spirit, Furball jumped on and Adam grabbed a handle and started to push it round getting faster and faster, finally when he was running his fastest he jumped on and clung onto the metal bar as they spun round and round.

He wished he could run faster, they were going pretty fast but it would be more fun if he could.

then as they began to slow down to a stop Adam noticed something pink running up to the playground, he assumed it was Babs and was about to push the roundabout again when he noticed something different about her.

''she gone commando?'' he said turning to Furball briefly, they looked back to see her rush onto the playground where he could definitely see some changes about her, her feet were just wavery shapes vaguely resembling feet and her eyes looked strange, but she was too far away to see why.

They watched her run up to the swing where Shirley was playing,

''Need a hand there!'' she said loudly, and before Shirley could say anything she had grabbed the swing and pulled it back and high off the ground.

''All aboard the Shirley whirly!'' cried Babs and pushed down so hard and fast she almost threw the white loon down.

Shirley clung onto the ropes as the swing went up and over the top and swung round and round so fast she disappeared in a blur,

''LIKE WOA-OA-OA-OA-OA!''

Babs shot over to the slide and jumped onto the bottom of it where she promptly slid up the shiny metal surface, leapt off the top and onto the monkey bars where she began swinging from bar to bar making chimp noises and knocking off Mary, when she reached then she somersaulted off and zigzagged across the sand and suddenly up to roundabout Furball and Adam were on,

''Its time to play wheel of fortune!''

Adam managed to get a good look at her now she was close up, the white fur on her front was gone and the lower part of her body looked like it was made of mist, but the most noticeable thing were her eyes, they had gone from pale blue to dark red.

''Contestants ready!'' she shouted, instantly he figured what she was planning but was too late to hop off,

''Spin that wheel!'' she announced and she grabbed the handle, pulled back and spun it.

Instantly the roundabout began to spin around at what felt like 100 mph! Both toons held on for all they were worth,

Adam no longer wished he could go faster.

His stomach flew up into his ribcage as he held on to the handlebar, his whole body trailed like a flag and the wind nearly blinded him,

Furball was doing no better; the sound of his claws scraping the metal went straight through the orange rabbit.

His grip started to slacken as the strain got too much, he couldn't hold on!

Then his grip slipped completely.

both toons flew off the roundabout, Furball flew off into the trees while Adam rocketed through the monkey bars and straight off the playground, he tumbled through the air and when he hit the ground he flip-flopped across the ground until the momentum ran out.

For a few seconds he just lay there trying to figure out what had just happened.

''I don't think that was Babs'' he said finally, and he shakily got up and made for the exit, when he reached the pavement he saw Calamity and Hampton running up,

''Have you seen a sense of humour running around?'' asked Hampton,

''A what?''

''It looks like Babs! Quick we have to find it before sunset!''

Suddenly a lot of what Adam had seen made sense,

Not all of it though.

''It's at the playground'' he said, instantly they raced into the park and out of sight leaving him alone again.

He couldn't get through one day without being stumped by some antic the others had done.

All that had got his heart racing again, he got out his bottle with a scowl, he didn't like taking them and now he was taking one twice in 15 minutes,

He was so pre-occupied by this that he didn't hear the tires screeching down the street or the engine revving.

But he did feel his feet knocked out from under him as a net suddenly swooped down behind him and scooped him up.

he found himself flying through the air in the net as the car it was attached to screeched to a stop, for a second he didn't know what was happening,

Then a voice rang out,

''I got him aunt Slappy!''

In that one millisecond it all became sickeningly clear.

He peered through the mesh to see the red mustang and its driver looking up at him,

''My cataracts aint that bad kid I can see that yer got him'' said the grey squirrel, and she glanced back up at the now stark-white rabbit.

''I think its time we had a little chat at my house'' she said slyly,

Adam's heart was close to exploding.

And with that she stomped on the accelerator and they zoomed off leaving a cloud of exhaust,

The street was left empty and silent except for one thing,

A small brown bottle that rattled slightly as it rolled along the pavement, slipped off the curb and disappeared down a drain...
