Sam smiled at his client as he waited for the jury to read their verdict. He knew that he had won this out of the bag because the evidence was clear as day, and if he needed any further proof that he did, the jury just said the sweet words not guilty to justify his thought. He grunted lowly when the girl hugged him tightly. He chuckled softly as he patted her back, just another kid that was in the wrong place at the wrong time. When the judge dismissed court, he turned around and was met by a shocked faced Levi, "Come on." He smirked at him as they walked out towards the office building.
Levi followed behind Sam as they made their way back to the office. He placed his notepad and phone on the desk that was across from Sam's assistant, "How did you know that she wasn't nowhere near the victim?"
Sam heard Levi talking as he sat his jacket down in his chair, walking back out front, he looked at the young boy, "Prosecution tried to put evidence against her. The pictures they showed in court last week were complete opposite from the original one that was taken at the crime scene."
"Show they photoshopped it?" Levi asked completely flabbergasted.
Sam nodded as he crossed his arms over his chest, "Yes and they will be hearing from the judge tomorrow because I can almost guarantee, they will lose their jobs over this."
"That's crazy." Levi said shaking his head.
"Welcome to my job. You see all types of crazy stuff." Sam chuckled, looking over when his assistant call him, "Gimme a sec."
Levi nodded as he looked over his notes again, completely amazed over what he has seen today.
Maverick shifted from side to side as he stood in the elevator, blowing out a deep breath. Sam had asked him to come over today so he could help him with something. Once the elevator stopped on the eighteenth floor, he stepped out when the door opened and smiled at the receptionist.
"Can I help you sweetie?" The receptionist smiled at the young man.
"I'm here to see Sam Evans, my name is Maverick."
"Hold on a second." She picked up her phone and buzzed Sam's assistant, "Sarah, could you please let Mr. Evans know that Maverick is here to see him."
"You can send him back Aimee." Said said as he grabbed the folder from Sarah and took it to his desk.
"Okay." Aimee said as she hung up the phone, looking up at Maverick, "You can go back."
"Thank you." Maverick smiled as turned and walked towards the back area, passing by many offices until he got to the big opened space where Sam's was located.
Levi looked up when he heard footsteps, he smiled when he saw Maverick, "Hey."
Maverick smiled once he saw Levi, "Hey Levi." Since the picnic, the two boys have been hanging out and getting know the other one better. Finding out that they had a lot of things in common, the two became good friends.
"Hey Maverick." Sam said as he came back out of his office with a smile, "I'm glad you're here because I need you to go with Levi to pick up some lunch. It's the deli right down the street." He walked over to Levi and handed him a list with everyone's order on it, "The joy of being an intern."
Levi chuckled as he took the list, "I expected it." He stood up from his chair, placing his phone in his pocket.
"Oh." Sam grabbed the money from his wallet and handed it to Maverick, "You guys get something too."
"Thank you." Maverick placed the money in his wallet and turned to Levi, "You ready?"
"Yeah..lets go before rush hour hits." He walked towards the elevator and pushed the button for it to come.
Mercedes held Madison's hand as they walked around the yogurt shop putting toppings in their cup. Since Sam and Maverick was out of the house today, she decided to spend some time with Madi and Quinn. She sat her cup down on the table and helped Madison up on the stool.
"Thank you mommy." She smiled sweetly as she looked at Mercedes, placing her spoon into her cup.
"You're welcome baby girl." Mercedes said as she sat down in her stool with a slight huff, sticking her spoon into her delicious dessert also.
Quinn held Carson in her arms as she walked through the front of the shop, spotting Madison and Mercedes by the window, she smiled as she walked over to them, "Hello ladies."
"Hi Aunt Quinn." Madison smiled at the older woman.
"Hey Quinny." Mercedes spoke as she moved her purse so she could sit down, pinching Carson cheek when she did.
Quinn smiled when Carson bounced up and down for Mercy, "He's always like this when he sees you."
Mercedes chuckled as she picked him up, kissing his cheek softly, "I love my tookie."
"Tookie?" Madison giggled loudly at the nickname.
"What's wrong with tookie?" Mercedes asked with an amused smile as she looked at Madison.
Madison shook her head with a smile, "Nothing, it's cute."
"You're cute." Mercedes leaned over and pinched her cheek.
Quinn smiled at their interaction. It was so amazing how their relationship was. Mercedes stepping up to be a mother to Madison was just amazing in its self. She could see that she loved that little girl just like she was her own. Hell, she was hers in every sense of the word. Coming out of her daze, she looked towards Mercedes, "Have you and Sam decided on a date?"
"Not really." Mercedes said as she placed some yogurt in her mouth, balancing Carson in her arms, "We're going to wait until the twins get here and figure it out then. All I know is I don't want to look like a blowfish in my wedding pictures."
"I'm pretty sure you won't look like a blowfish Cedes." Quinn giggled at her friend as she sipped some of her water.
"I tried to tell her Aunt Quinn but she won't listen to me." Madison stressed as she gave her mother a knowing look.
Mercedes chuckled at Madison, "I do listen to you baby girl. I never miss a single word that comes out of you adorable little mouth."
Madison smiled as she moved her attention back to her yogurt.
"I think waiting is good. You should definitely use the time to plan it out the wedding of your dreams."
"That's the thing Q..I never pictured myself getting engaged let alone married, so I gave no idea what I want." She spooned up some more of her yogurt and gave a little to Carson.
"That's funny because I always pictured this for you." Quinn smiled at her best friend, "I'm always here if you need help with anything, you know that."
"I know and I'm glad you are because these next couple of months, my household is going to be busy. Maverick will be starting his senior year, plus he has football and baseball games I'm going to have to be at. Madi will be playing on the little league softball team in the neighborhood in three weeks and she will be beginning second grade in September. I'm going to be trying to keep up with my job and all that jazz. And on top of all of that, I have to make sure my lovely fiancé stays sane doing my hormonal rages."
Madison looked at her with a lopsided grin just like her father, "That's a lot mommy."
Quinn laughed at her friend. What she was saying was so true but she knew Mercedes was strong. She could handle anything to came her way but she will be there every step of the way to help her if she needed it, "You can handle this Cedes..I've seen you deal with things difficult than this."
Mercedes smiled as she looked down at Carson who was looking at her. She was glad to have friends like Quinn that had so much faith in her. She knew she could do but it was good hearing it from other people that she could.
Maverick and Levi made it to the deli in under five minutes. Ordering the ten orders that was on the list plus theirs, the wait was going to be twenty minutes since that were in the mist of the lunch rush.
"How's everything going with your internship?" Maverick asked as he sipped on his lemonade. Since they had to wait on the food, they decided to sit down at the bar and talk.
"Surprisingly it's going good. I'm actually considering doing it now since Sam is actually showing me everything that goes into it instead of just making me sit there and do nothing."
"That's good. Sam is an awesome person."Maverick chuckled as he thought about their adventures at the gym and at home.
Levi smiled at him, "You're lucky to have him in your life you know? Sam is a good person."
"He really is." Maverick smiled before he casted his eyes down to his drink.
"I'm know that this is totally out of the blue and I don't want to overstep or anything but I've been wanting to ask you this for awhile..What was it like when you came out to your mom?"
Maverick cleared his throat as he sat up in his chair, "Well..it's was interesting to be honest. I was so scared of what she would think, I hid my last relationship from her for almost two years. But one night when we came back from karaoke, I went up to her room and was going to tell her but she already knew and she is okay with it."
"That's pretty cool that's she is." Levi said as he played with the paper around his water bottom.
Brent was walking beside Aiden as they walked into the deli shop to get something to eat. Since everything with Maverick went down, their mutual friends were kind of pissed off with him and kept their distance. Even though Aiden felt the same way, he told him that he wasn't going turn his back on his friend forever.
"I was thinking that we, as in everyone, get together for our summer tradition." Aiden said as they stood in line, pulling out his phone to text his girlfriend.
"Good luck with trying to get that to happen. Everyone hates me."
"No one hates you Brent. We may be pissed at you for hurting Maverick but we don't hate you."
"Whatever." Brent said as he turned to look around the small place, his eyes went wide but then turned into anger when he saw Maverick sitting with someone, "He didn't waste no time." He stepped out of line and walked into their direction.
"What?" Aiden asked as he looked up from his phone, seeing Brent go towards Mav, his eyes went wide, "Shit." He followed behind him quickly.
Levi looked up when he heard someone clear their throat, "Can I help you?"
"No you can't but he can." Brent glared at him before turning to Maverick, "Hello Maverick."
Maverick rolled his eyes when he heard his voice, "Why are you here?"
"I could ask you the same thing but as I can see..I don't need too. You moved on quickly." Brent stared a Maverick with a mixture of hurt and anger in his eyes.
Levi looked between the two confusedly. He knew Maverick was recently out of a relationship but didn't know why. And by the daggers going through the side of his head, he could pretty much figure out that this was his ex, "Look, it's not what it looks like if that's what you're thinking."
"Nobody's talking to you though." Brent said in a harsh tone, glaring at the boy.
Maverick stood up from his seat and grabbed Brent by his arm, dragging him outside.
Aiden looked back and forward between the three, clearly not knowing what to do. When Maverick all but dragged Brent out, he gave Levi an awkward smile, "I'm Aiden.."
"Levi." The boy said awkwardly as he looked towards the counter, hoping that the food would be ready so they could leave and get back to the office.
Brent jerked his arm out of Maverick's arm when they made it outside, pushing him against the wall hard, "I can't believe you."
Maverick grunted as he pushed him back, breathing erratically, "If I remembered correctly, we are NOT together. So what I do with my life is not concern." Maverick yelled at him.
"Just because I did what I did, it doesn't mean I don't love you..I apologized countless of times." Brent yelled back.
"I'm not doing this with you." Maverick said as he made his way back to the door, only to have Brent block it.
"I'm not letting you go Maverick..I'm not. I love you and I made a mistake that I can't take back but I'm willing to work it out with you."
Maverick looked him with a frown, "You CHEATED on me Brent, for a damn YEAR. You had sex with someone else and you just want me to forgive you and take you back."
"I don't expect for it to be easy but if you love me like you say you do then you will do whatever it takes to make this.." He gestured between them, "..work."
Maverick let out a humorless laugh, "Do you even hear yourself right now? You act like I'm the one who fucking cheated on you. You're absolutely crazy." He looked at him straight in the eyes, feeling nothing for the boy standing in front of him, "You need to let go Brent because I'm done with you, completely done." Maverick pushed passed him and opened the door, heading straight to Aiden.
Aiden looked at his friend sadly, "I just wish this didn't happen to you guys."
"Well, it did so.." Maverick shrugged as looked away.
Aiden nodded as he stepped back, "I should go. I'll text you later."
"Bye." Maverick said as he watched him leave, running his hands over his face, he turned with a sigh as he looked at Levi, "I'm so sorry."
Levi waved him off as he handed him one of the bags, "It's okay. We should get this food back to the office."
Maverick nodded silently as he grabbed the bag. This was not how he planned the day to go.
Madison smiled happily as Mercedes pulled up to the field. Today was her first ever softball practice and she was super excited about it. She has wanted to play the sport for awhile but never had a chance to but that was going to change today. She smiled brightly when she saw Sam waiting outside his truck. She unbuckled her seatbelt and jumped out the car when Mercedes parked. "Daddy." She ran to him and attacked him with a hug.
Sam couldn't even get his phone into his pocket good enough when he felt small arms around him. He chuckled as he looked down at his daughter, picking her up, "Muffin." He attacked her face with kisses.
Madison giggled as she kissed him back, "I missed you."
"I know sweetheart, I missed you too." Sam smiled back at her. They haven't been able to spend much time together but that was going to change because he was going to spend the whole next week with her. He looked down at her outfit with a smile, "You ready for this?"
"I am daddy." She smiled brightly as he sat her down to her feet.
Mercedes smiled as she leaned against her car, watching the interaction between the two. She would never get tired of seeing them together. She pushed off the car and went over to them, placing Madison's hat on her head, pulling her ponytail through the hole in the back, "Go ahead baby girl." She watched as she gave Sam a hug and her as well, laughing lowly when she kissed her stomach before she ran over to the field. Mercedes turned to Sam with a smile, "Hey."
Sam pulled her to him, kissing her lips soundly with a smile, "Hi." He smirked as he sat the palms of his hands on her stomach, "How are you?"
"Besides having to be pee every five minutes, I'm doing great." She gave him a cheeky smile.
Sam chuckled as he dropped his hands, kissing her again before he took her hand and guided them to the stands.
Mercedes sat down, looking out towards the field, seeing the little girls practicing on their hitting, "How was work?"
"The usual. I won the case I was telling you about."
"Congratulations babe."
"Thank you." Sam smiled as he looked out towards the field, "And Levi seems to be enjoying his internship so that's good too."
"That's great. It's good that he's getting to experience it." Mercedes smiled when she saw Madison hit the ball, "She's a natural."
"You think?" Sam gushed as he watched his daughter hit the ball.
Mercedes chuckled at him, patting his shoulder lightly, "Of course."
"She always told me she wanted to play sports but I think you know the reason why she never had a chance to." Sam said quietly as he continued to watch on.
Mercedes bit her lip to keep her anger at bay, placing a calming hand on her stomach. She really did hate that woman and all the things that she has done to her baby girl but she was determined not to let what the things she did and said ruin Madison, "I swear that bitch is going to get it one day."
Sam looked over at her laughing , grabbing her hand, "And you talk about me being the violent one."
"It's just makes me so angry when I think about her hurting Madi." Mercedes wiped a frustrated tear from her eye, looking at Madison on the field, she smiled sadly as she saw how much fun she was having, "I'm going to do my best to make sure that she's not hurt anymore Sammy."
Sam wrapped his arm around Mercedes, "I love you so much Mercedes and I'm so damn grateful for you. You could've ran for the hills when you found out about my situation but you didn't."
"I'm not a runner baby." She leaned up and kissed his jaw, seeing his lips quiver, she took her small hands and wiped away his tears that manage to come out, "I'm always going to be there for you and her. Always."
Sam leaned over and hugged her tightly, placing his head on top of hers. In this moment he knew that him and Mercedes was going to be together forever. No matter what curveballs life may throw at them on the way, he knew that they would work together to overcome them all.
A/N. I'm back! Sorry it took me so long to update but I had to finish that prequel so I can gear up for the sequel AND on top of that, I'm in the mist of keeping real life together with school so yeah I'm doing ALOT. But no way I'm letting these stories go unfinished. MOVING ON...I told you asshole Brent wasn't gone anywhere, smh. Quinncedes/Madison yogurt date was so sweet. Samcedes and Madison will always be my favorite. The next chapter will have a small time jump and we will find out the sex of the babies. :)
