The Epilogue

Two Years Later

It was a beautiful sunny day in Paris, France. After staying in Mystic Falls for a few months after Klaus and Rebekah had left she decided it was time for her to leave too. She moved back to Paris and rented a small studio apartment nearby a French school where she taught English. She loved her job and the kids, but she was lonely and missed Klaus.

She kept in touch with Rebekah and frequently asked about Nik, but Rebekah was tightlipped about it. Once Caroline had asked to talk to Klaus and Rebekah had downright refused.

It wasn't that Caroline had given up on him, they were going to live forever after all and she would wait as long as it took, but she still wanted to know how he was doing.

That Saturday morning Caroline stopped at the bakery and coffee shop for a pastry and coffee while she sat outside and people watched. The bakery and the coffee shop was near her apartment so she saw some of her neighbors. When the sights became tiresome she began to grade the papers she had brought with her. She was in the middle of grading one student's when a shadow loomed above her blocking the sun.

"Please move." She said in French.

When the shadow didn't move she growled lowly her eyes still on the paper. "I am not interested in whatever you'd like to tell me or sell me. Please move you are blocking the light." She snarled finally looking up and letting out a choking sound.

Klaus stood in front of her an amused smile on his face and a coffee cup in his hand along with the pastry she had just eaten.

"Muffin?" he asked offering it to her.

She looked down at the plate where the crumbs of her previous pastry sat and she smiled slightly.

"I already ate one…but I could be tempted to eat another." She said waving to the chair across from her.

She slid the remains of the ungraded papers into her bag and smiled at him. He grinned back and sat across from her before placing his coffee down and handing her the plate.

"I'm Niklaus." He said offering her a hand.

She smiled winningly and took it. "Caroline."

"It's nice to meet you." He said keeping a hold of her hand.

"Likewise." She mumbled caressing the palm of his hand with her fingers.

"Do you come here often?" he asked looking into her eyes.

She nodded, "it's near my apartment."

"What a coincidence. It's near mine as well." He said smiling.

She stared into his blue eyes enjoying the intense look there.

"Where's your family?" she asked ending their game.

"Away. Different parts of the world. A little bird may have mentioned a beautiful angelic blonde was staying in Paris. I thought I'd look her up."

"And what do you think?" she asked quietly.

"I think I'm ready, but the question is; are you?" he asked reaching out to touch her face.

She nodded, "I am. I do still love you."

He grinned and leaned forward pressing her soft lips against hers. "I love you too." He said kissing her again.

She knew without really being able to explain how that this time was going to work. They had grown, been through so much, and now they were ready to try again. She had her own life and so did he, but now they could be together forever with each other and have their own life with one another.
